I am a quarter Hispanic and have a long line of family members that are versed in cooking authentic Mexican food. This is the absolute worse place I have ever been in my entire life. Not only does the food taste horrible the staff are also rude, and the bathrooms smell terrible. The prices are outrageous and I don't know how it has so many positive reviews. I would run far, and fast away from here. I have had better food in the street carts of Mexico after they were already closed. read more

While traveling thru Brookings again a friend and I stopped for dinner at Rancho Viejo and were greeted right as we entered by a very friendly young woman. We were taken to a booth (which I always prefer) and given menus, chips and salsa arrived very soon after, which tasted fresh and spicy, the way I like. We read thru all the great dishes and loved to be able to see pictures on the menu of what there menu items look like. I ordered a prawn/bacon wrap burrito and my friend had a creme seafood dish, sorry I did not remember the actual names, only description. His creme seafood was out of this world fantastic....I tried some. My bacon wrap prawn burrito was prepared very well, but I didnt love the bacon and carmelized onion flavor in my mexican food. But I ate it all lol! I also as usual ordered a margarita ($6) and that was hella good! I will be back again to try more dishes, food was really good over all and service was so fantastic! We were never left alone more than 10 minutes, waters, chips, napkins they really covered all our needs and made us feel very welcome. read more

This is a great place very friendly, great service our second time here in a week ! The Mole is A+ delicious my husband had the Chile Relleno with shredded beef enchilada plate he def finished aloof it... very tasty made perfectly! Their beans and rice are def made fresh as well as the plates we ordered. Great way to end the year with a well made dinner and friendly service! The first time we came in we had the same plates we had to return, I actually left my glasses behind when we returned today they remembered they were mine and returned them I hadn't even noticed thank you for your honesty and amazing service! My Asada burrito smothered in green sauce was amazing my husband had the combo fajitas so good

I am visiting town, but won't visit this restaurant again. While my friend loved the stuffed burrito he got, I had a different experience. I wanted a Chili Relleno but got an over-cooked, tri-folded omelet with a few pieces of green chili and some cheese inside. I wanted a cheese enchilada but it was thin and the tortilla was not soft. The red sauce was bland. We were served chips at the beginning but only a tiny cup black of salsa that may have been 4 oz. for the three of us, that I must admit reminded me exactly of Campbell's soup. We live in Brookings. We decided on a super early dinner. I worked all morning, i'm tired. We ordered to pick up about 330pm. I ordered tacos al carbon, 2 chicken side flautas, 1 #30 and a horchata to go. I'm super displeased and discusted. We will not go back. It cost twice as much as our last visit. The food was ice cold, the drink was like watery bland candle juice from days ago, I did not get flautas but 2 limp tacos instead, all the tortillas were soggy. The beans tasted like cold tingy alkaline, the asada for the al carbon tasted like icy dog treats. My husbands #30 was cold and soggy also. I said well at least I can have guacamole. Sigh no it was bad also. My guacamole had skins and hard chunks in it. I spit most of my meal out. We are on a budget and that was our treat. I am a pissed off, still hungry resident now. This is not an exaggeration. I would post pictures but the meal is in the trash all soggy and mixed together. read more

My wife and I eat here just about every week. When we walk in, they immediately recognize us and suggest our usual drink and food selections. Service doesn't get better than that. Sometimes it can be on the slow side if the restaurant is full, but they are always very friends. I usually get the chimichangas or the pollo asado. The asado plate is HUGE! My wife likes their chili releno combo. You do sometimes have to remind them when you are ready to go, it is as easy as walking up to the register. We raise service dogs, we are raising our 8th one and was turned away from the other Mexican restaurant in Brookings, which by the way has never happened to us in 12 years. Rancho Viejo - Mexican Near Me - Brookings, Oregon

Several years ago we stopped at Rancho Viejo for dinner before heading back to McKinleyville. We were treated to an excellent meal and the manager came by several times to make sure we were happy....and, we were. I had carne asada and my friend had the fajita dinner. Last month, we returned to Rancho Viejo and found it was under new management. My friend had the fajita salad and I had the burrito dinner. The dinners were outstanding. Plus, we were entertained by the managers little daughter. My friends margarita was great! And, I had two bottles of Modelo. Handicap parking is right near the door and on almost level ground which made it easy for my friend to get to the door and the floor was smooth so the walker didn't hang up on things. The managers were very accommodating of the walker. We will definitely be back...especially for the entertainment. The atmosphere was excellent and you felt at home. read more

I love Rancho Viejo. They are one of my favorite Mexican restaurants I have been to, and I frequently dine here with my parents when I'm in town. I usually get a bean and cheese chimichanga with beans and rice on the side. Before I was a vegetarian I always used to order the Pollo a la Crema (not sure on the spelling). It is absolutely delicious. -Sometimes the service is slow, but usually I don't mind if I'm in good company. -The staff is friendly. -Huge menu -Good cabage salsa (you have to ask for it. It's best when freshly made and sometimes can taste weird if it isn't, but when it IS fresh, mannnnn! it is delicious) -Awesome salsa -At the end of every meal they provide each person with a cinnamon and sugar tortilla chip with whipped cream and strawberry sauce on top. read more

Some visits everything is great, other visits things are just okay. This visit the food was great, our main waiter was very attentive, and made some very good recommendations. I like their chips, they are always warm, salsa isn't bad. I wasn't wild about the Honeydew Margarita, it was well made, there was enough tequila in it, I just didn't like the honeydew flavoring, I'm a flavor snob, I was hoping for real honeydew, not artificial flavoring. Trying to support local businesses during pandemic and we chose rancho for dinner. Went in to out our names on a list and were told 15 minutes and they would call us. Almost 30 min later I went back in to see how much longer and our names had been crossed out as if we had been seated. The lady was very apologetic and said we would be next. My family stood inside at that point so we would not be forgotten. We all had masks on. Another server told us we had to leave and I tried to explain what had happened and he/she cut me off and told us just to leave. Never been treated so horribly. read more

Currently visiting Crescent City and there is no appealing place to eat. We drove 26 minutes to eat here and it did not disappoint. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by the staff. The service overall was amazing . The food was delicious and so was the portions per plate. The only down side was that we order two (glass) cokes , but only had one and they had no horchata ;( ! The Margaritas are OK, but they come in a tiny martini glass; server pointed out that you also get the stainless container they were made in. OK, so you get 2+ tiny martini glasses. Their salsa is very good, so I figured 3 stars was fair. Save money and don't order a Margarita! I usually go to Pancho's but they were PACKED and I had two hungry kids so I decided to go to Rancho instead. Next time I'll wait for a table. The food was mediocre at best. Greasy. I feel like there is a giant ball of grease in my tummy. Not fresh at all. The service was terrible. I asked for sour cream and guacamole when the food got to the table and didn't see the waitress again till I asked for my check. At one point I had to go find her. It just sucked. Let me start off by saying service was excellent (more service then needed). The food was terrible. I had the flautas which were corn not flour and soaked soggie in a sauce. The chicken was all brown meat and I think they included the liver and gizzards. So on to my husband's three tacos. The premade shells taste stale and the ground meat soaked the shells till they fell apart. On to desert.its complimentary but feel I should still comment. Rancho Viejo has an extensive (and annoying) menu. Annoying due to a huge number of distracting advertisements that make the menu hard to read. The food is decent, though, and the platters large. The margaritas, while large, are mediocre being made with a mix rather than from scratch. read more

i have to admit, the staff is super friendly and attentive. and the chips and salsa were okay. but the meal...we weren't that crazy about it. i ordered a chicken tostado - the fresh lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, sour cream, and guacamole were not hot, as they should be, but the chicken and beans were not hot at all either, which they should have been. and the 'crispy' tortilla was not crispy in the least, it was soggy, it just fell apart...ugh. the whole beans in the tostada tasted bland. hubby's ground beef enchilada and tacos were without much flavor, as were the rice and refried beans. read more

Worst meal ever. Salsa was watery,grilled cheese soggy and cheese was not even melted,fajitas had no flavor, beef burrito was so greasy my daughter would jot even eat it. Good food and drinks. There was only one waitress working so she was a bit overworked but she was friendly and helpful. The only issue I had was the menu. It was too large and very confusing. It seemed like you could get the same item from a number of different areas of the menu and be charged a different price depending on where you found it. They also do not offer guac as an appetizer, which is normally a must for me. I got the super enchilada with pork and it was absolutely delicious, so no complaints with their kitchen! read more
