Went to the RANGR tonight to try a local restaurant. The staff were very professional and courteous. The place was clean and classy. We ordered the pizza and hamburger. OH MY GOSH the mushroom pizza was to die for. Best pizza I've had since my trip to Carmel. The hamburger was Hugh , juices , and delicious. We will go again. I suggest you make reservations. Range has been on my list for awhile and we just got a chance to drop in and try it. One word - GO! Great experience! Cooper was a great server and eagerly checked with the kitchen when I asked for wine recommendations to go with the game of the day. Both selections (sure, we ordered both) were great, and Coop tended to us smartly. Wife and I ordered the Forager pizza and the game of the day, Elk, prepped medium rare in a chimichurri with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Both were FABULOUS! The pizza was made with bacon lardons (whatever those are they were terrific) wild mushrooms and goat cheese. The Elk was a first time for me, and I will say I am a fan! The steak frites is truly fantastic. My steak was perfectly cut, perfectly seasoned, and at the perfect temp. Truly one of the best steaks I've had out in a long while. We were in Roseville for business and decided to stay for dinner. I'm so glad we found the Range! Pros: * The menu was varied - something for everyone * Food was delicious. My husband had the pork "porterhouse" and it was delicious. I had the Cowboy (I think that was what it was called) burger. The meat was excellent quality. I asked for the fries to be xtra crispy and I can tell you that 80% of the time, I send them back. When my meal arrived, based on the light color of the fries, I was ready to send them back, but of course, I tried one first and wow! They were perfect! Not over cooked or brown, just super crispy. To be honest, I ate all of the fries (something I rarely order), before I even touched the delicious hamburger...I also started with a Caesar salad. It was generous with very crispy lettuce and of course, it had homemade croutons, always a huge plus! * Service was outstanding, seriously OUTSTANDING. It was very clear that this team works in an efficient manner and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves (this seems hard to pull in most restaurants we go to, now-a- days, so it shows that the owner had a great team and system down pat). Our server was great (I am SO sorry I can't remember her name!), but so was everyone else. Example, I asked another server to ask our server, for some more Cesar dressing. Instead of doing that, he just brought it back (quickly), himself. The owner came by to ask about our meal - always a plus. It's clear that he loves what he does. * Great selection of beer (according to my husband - I can't stand the stuff...) *Open bar to watch the cooks at work - we might sit at the bar next time, just for something different Cons (just as couple of disappointments): * The vegs on my delicious burger, were put on the bottom bun, under the meat, so when I tried to pick it up, there was just a soggy, mushy bun on the bottom...I got out the knife and fork. I let the owner know and I'm sure this won't happen again. * I usually try to SQUEEZE in dessert when I'm at a new restaurant, so I tried the Apple CRISP. Unfortunately, it wasn't really an apple CRISP because there wasn't any CRISP, on top - a key ingredient in my book. It was good, just not great and consisted of thinly sliced and spiced apples (with the skin on, which was OK), heated and served. The apples could have been cooked a tad more, but I really missed the CRISP that is supposed to/usually comes, layered on top of the whole thing (sometimes that's the best part!). I mentioned all this to our server and she offered to take if off our bill, but we DID eat the whole thing, so I declined....then we got the bill and she took it off anyway, THAT IS EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE, PERIOD!!! * We live in Nevada City, so we probably won't be back as often as we would most certainly like to...sigh! read more

The food was overall good quality and tasting, BUT there were a couple of things that Range Kitchen's could have been more considerate in their treatment of a large party of 10 guests that had a considerable tab and were all very respectful to the staff. We had three birthdays in our group, the server ensure us that a small dessert would be brought for the birthday girls. We even provided candles in advance. After sitting awhile, NOTHING was brought for the birthday girls. Instead, we were asked to leave by a man chapping his hands at us and telling us they were close and it's time to go. It was 8:40pm at that time, I understand this was past their closing time but please learn how to speak to your guests in a more respectful manner. A simple, thank you for coming in tonight, we are closed now will suffice. As we were leaving, we can hear staff laughing in the back. How unprofessional. I honestly hardly ever give any businesses a bad review, but this time, I felt the need to. My girlfriends and I reserved a table for 3 of the birthdays in our group. Our very first experience at The Range was amazing until the very end. After being told by our server, for the Birthday candles we gave him at the end of our meal he'd bring out a surprise (maybe a dessert) for 3 of the birthday girls in our group, so we patiently waited for him to do so, but out of nowhere, a bald, tatted worker clapped his hands and demanded for us to leave. The staff in the back started laughing and cheering as we walked out, confused and utterly disgusted by their behavior. We have never felt so disrespected and have never been treated this way from any other establishments before. There are other ways to treat customers, especially if they're supporting your business and choosing to dine here. Unfortunately, our group will not be returning or recommending this place to anyone after being treated so poorly. What a huge disappointment. After reading previous reviews, it appears not much has changed with the terrible service past customers have experienced. read more

Just had dinner here tonight as a party of 7 and this was an embarrassing experience. For starters, when we first got there and were sat in the back we were surprised. My mom told the waitress right away that she had requested the booth area when she made her reservation over the phone. Instead of apologizing, the waitress seemed annoyed and just said she would look into it for us. Always apologize. Even if you're not sure where the miscommunication happened, just apologize. She came back and said that the booth area was already reserved so we just stayed in the back. No big deal, we made it work. My husband and I both ordered the burger. I had the regular, he had the bison. Both were incredibly bland. If it wasn't for the beer cheese, these would have been pretty bad. The meat had zero flavor. Like no salt or seasoning whatsoever. We ordered two forager pizzas and oddly, they both looked different when they came out even though we ordered them exactly the same with no modifications. One has seasoning all over it and one was missing the goat cheese crumbles. We told the waitress and she immediately pointed to one of the pizzas and said "well that one is made wrong". We then had to literally ask her if she could please take the pizza missing the goat cheese back and get them to add it. When she came back out with it we were shocked. All they did was throw cold goat cheese all over the top. They didn't even put it back in the over to at least melt the cheese like they're supposed to. We got some dessert. One was the apple crisp which was the saddest apple crisp I'd ever seen. What they brought us was a plate of Cooked apple slices with a little sugar sprinkled on top and a scoop of ice cream. No actual crumble or crisp topping and no whipped cream like all the other pictures I've seen. We immediately told one of the food runners and he told us right away that it looked like it was missing the crumble. Then the waitress came over and said the same thing. She took it back with her and when they brought it back out all the chef did was throw cold crumble topping onto it. It wasn't even cooked in like it's supposed to be. At this point I was beyond done. Not once was there an apology for screwing up our food and I cannot believe not a single person let the food leave the kitchen like that. Having worked in restaurants for over 15 years myself, I was beyond appalled at the service and food mishaps. I did make sure to tell the manager about this when we left and both the waitress and the manager alluded to the fact that there were some issues they were having with the kitchen staff in some way. I also showed her the pics and she seemed really embarrassed. If you have issues with your staff, you need to make it right for your guests that have screwed up food. We should have been offered a partial refund or something to rectify the bad experience. Such a disappointment. We were here for a birthday dinner too and it was certainly memorable, and not for the right reasons. Future diners, beware. Sounds like this place is going through it at the moment. read more

I had the best darn bison burger I've ever had. It was just a pick up to try the place out butI love the rustic vibe of the place and would love to sit down and eat there plus the menu looks enticing. I also had some delish fried green tomatoes (because ofc having Southern roots obliged me). I was certainly not disappointed and would venture to say those were also the best I've had. Who knew in Cali instead of down South I'd find an incredible Southern fave?! Also the service was awesome! I came for the burger but then had to order two more things on the menu including the aforementioned tomatoes and my son wanted to try the mac n cheese. He said it was heavenly. I came here with friends who visit this place a lot and I can see why. The food was delicious and the service top notch. Range also has a really cool vibe and decor, like you're "on a range," with barn doors and pictures of cows. It is really nice inside. We shared the Brussels and the deviled eggs for appetizers and both were amazing, especially the deviled eggs. I especially liked the little fried thing on the top of the eggs. Most of us had the scallops for our entree and it did not disappoint. They were cooked perfectly and the risotto was delicious. It was packed for a Thursday night, and it was pretty loud in there, so just keep that in mind if you plan to visit. Reservations definitely recommended. read more

They're not booing. They're chanting "Cooo-per". Our server, Cooper, was excellent! The food was really good. We started with the Brussels Sprouts and Bacon. Sooooo good. This is a MUST. The vinaigrette and bacon jam really bring it all together. My wife had the pork porterhouse with the fingerling potatoes and greens. She was very happy with it. I had the catch of the day-salmon (cooked perfectly) with rainbow cauliflower and rice pilaf. The rice pilaf was...rice pilaf but the salmon was delicious as were the veggies. Even with a slight chill in the air, we opted to sit outdoors with the security of a giant heater right next to us. The rustic setting was perfect and our waiter spaced our meal out, which allowed us to have conversation in between courses. Although, that may have been because when confronted with so many options, we decided to have a bit of everything. We shared a bottle of Chardonnay, and had the beet salad which had a peppered lemony vinaigrette dressing that elevated it to another level. Then, we had the meatballs, presented in a skillet, full of cheese and sauce and absolute goodness. The Mac & cheese was also in a skillet, baked with Gouda and made my tummy happy. The service was top notch. Our waiter had a sense of humor, was attentive and another gentleman even came around asking if everything was to our liking. It seemed like they really cared. Tried Range Kitchen & Tap for the first time. We started off with the Boar bacon artichoke dip with soft, warm pita wedges. Very tasty. Only detractor was that the boar bacon pieces were so miniscule they weren't very apparent in adding to the flavor. My Steak Frites was cooked perfectly; both the, as requested, rare steak and the fries, which are often overcooked and oversalted at other establishments. My brother enjoyed his meatloaf and mashed potatoes with the vegetables also cooked to al dente perfection. Service was excellent and friendly, with attentive staff. Very disappointed with the change in menu choices. No more game of the week. That is the only thing that set this place apart from everyone else. Jalapeno popper pizza is different and is just a sauceless pizza with jalapeno. The steak frites was sent back for being over cooked and drinched in sauce. Fries were soggy. The elk lollipops - can't taste the pesto and overcooked. The beer tasted flat as well. Came here for takeout because my boyfriend had to return something in the area, and their food looked interesting. Our hunch was not wrong, because the Bison Sliders were awesome, even after the roughhousing of takeout! Everything was extremely pleasant to eat!! Although I was personally attracted to the interesting animals they used, they didn't taste much different from more common animals. (i.e. Bison tastes like beef, and boar tastes like pig.) Their Boar Bacon Artichoke Dip did lose its freshness as it sat out in the cold for a bit, but that was completely our fault for not choosing to dine in. I wish we did choose to dine in though, because the restaurant looked so elegant inside! The employees were kind enough to offer that option as well, but we didn't want to inconvenience them! Easy-off from Hwy 80. An immaculately clean, somewhat austere restaurant in a shopping center, Range had fresh, delicious food. A limited but interesting menu of Starters, Salads, Sandwiches, and Pizzas, we were served promptly by a helpful, courteous server. Our food came out quickly and was plated attractively. Food: our first time here, based on the reviews, my partner, and I decided to come here. He ordered fried chicken, which was really bland and had no seasoning and super oily. No redeeming qualities same for the mashed potatoes. The only thing on the plate was the spinach which was well seasoned. I ordered a custom pizza and it was completely burnt on the bottom and tasted very bitter and the crust ( I like thin crusts from the East Coast we are known for pizza and food in general ) and this wasn't it! Do not recommend Service : hostess was very bland and didn't smile but that's fine, our waitress was wonderful, nice and attentive! If this was based solely on the waitress she'd get a 5 + stars. I was so looking forward to trying this restaurant and finally got a chance to with a friend and my daughter's father. The ambiance was ok with a nice western theme. Unfortunately the service was not personable as our server seemed distant with us in particular. I spent some years in Europe so I was excited to order the game and pasta with mushrooms and the shrimp johnnycake as an appetizer. This was my first time having Johnny cake although I've known about it. Mine came out burnt on the bottom and when I brought it to my server's attention she "checked with the kitchen" and relayed that that's how it comes. I ordered my game medium rare and it came out without any pink let alone red. I also brought this to my server's attention and she gave me a look like I was being bothersome. I'm asked that she take the plate to the chef who then relayed that it was indeed prepared wrong. They comped my entree but after making me feel like my satisfaction was irrelevant as a customer. The mushroom pasta was very delicious but I wouldn't recommend anyone else go through that experience of paying to be unheard and dismissed. read more

LOVE everything about this place. We found this place on Yelp and saw the great pictures so we had to visit. We were greeted by the friendly host and decided to sit in the bar area to take advantage of the Happy Hour Specials. We ordered a few beers and appetizers, all from the Happy Hour Menu. Here's the run down - HAPPY HOUR IS M-Sat 3pm-6pm $1 off all craft beer $6 house wine $3 off all pizzas $5 fries They have a Happy Hour Food menu that appear to rotate. While we were there, we ordered the Harissa Lamb Sliders and Carnitas Tacos from the Happy Hour Food menu. We also ordered the Cast Iron Meatballs which were to die for and our favorite dish but all of the food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. The DECOR is FANTASTIC, very farmhouse, bright, and clean. This neighborhood eatery was close to our hotel, so we gave it a try. We were promptly seated on the patio and loved sitting outside. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. We each ordered a drink, and started with their croquettes. They were delicious. Three come on the plate. They were crispy on the outside, the mashed potatoes were creamy on the inside and the vegetables were a bit crunchy which added a nice texture to the creamy inside. For dinner, I wanted something small so went with the Mac and Cheese on the appetizer menu. It was creamy, cheesy and scrumptious. Mr. B went with the special which was Bison Rib-eye with roasted potatoes. The Bison rib-eye was tender and cooked very well. We would definitely eat at Range again when in the area. read more

If you're looking for somewhere that makes you feel at home while still being able to eat some great food you'd want from an upscale expensive restaurant this is the place to go! Our servers name was Allie and she knew everything there was to know about the menu/made us feel like she really cared about how our dining experience was! Also noticed that someone who we assume is either the GM or the owner was walking around and making conversation with customers ourselves included.
