If you think you "don't like Indian food," try Rasoi. It will raise your expectations. My wife and I now eat here at least once a week. Though we have our menu favorites, we do try to branch out once in a while. So far, I have yet to try anything on the menu I didn't like. Our usual order consists of Samosas, Cauliflower 65, Paneer Saag (her), Chicken Kastoori Kabab (me). Lately, though, we've been exploring the menu a little further. I love everything they do with lentils. Likewise, the cauliflower dishes make my mouth water just thinking about them. Chicken, lamb, vegetables, you name it, Rasoi makes it delicious. Rasoi has an amazing number of vegetarian dishes that leave me thinking, "I could be a vegetarian if I ate here every night." The staff have always been very courteous to us, and clearly are getting used to our regular appearance - be it when I'm picking up take-out, our dining in with my wife. Today I decided to have the Vegan Buffet at Rasoi. To my surprise was the consistent quality of the flavors. Nothing heavy handed on the flavoring. Light, sophisticated, fresh and creative would be a good way to express this food. I had the passion berry ice tea that is served with a fresh black berry drizzle with a slice of lime. I never thought I would ever comment on the salad at an Indian restaurant but i an going to. We opted out of rice and they offered a salad so figuring we would get the normal restaurant side salad of a bunch of iceberg and one side of onion and tomato my wife got it and I passed. My mistake, it had mixed greens, walnuts, cranberries, bunch of cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots and it was delicious. The main courses did not disappoint either the lamb was cooked perfect and the chicken was amazing. The staff was very friendly and no feel of being rushed. Fantastic! Went last night with my boyfriend and we ate a TON of food and loved everything we ordered. We started with potato naan, and the potato and cheese samosas and for a main course I ordered the madras chicken and my boyfriend ordered the mango chicken and we both got the masala potato as a side. We were in heaven with every bite we took! Even when we ate each others (which is not the norm for us) The flavors of everything were wonderfully spiced, without being too overpowering or spicy just for the sake of burning your mouth. The service was pretty good especially since there was only 2 (or so it seemed) servers for the entire place on a Saturday night. Everything was handled well and our food came at a great pace. I'm vegetarian, and I can't believe I didn't know about this place! I love a good Indian brunch, but it's always hard risking that money when I know most of the options will have meat. Rasoi had SO MANY CHOICES:: a HUGE plate of dry lettuce and lime-cilantro dressing pickled veg (not my thing, but whatever) some healthier, fresh-tasting, almost raw vegetables, lightly covered in (dry) spices rice patties with tomato chutney lentil donuts with coconut dressing white rice AND brown rice (!) aloo zucchini, my favorite dish that day lentil and cauliflower yellow curry tofu and cabbage scramble strawberry rice pudding bloody marys were $3.99 and they brought dosa to the table for each of us. for $12, it was amazing! i'm definitely coming back next Saturday (and I'll be thinking about it all week). read more

This Indian place is spectacular! Service was top notch and super friendly. They checked on us after every course and made sure everything was okay. I love mango chicken and they literally make the best here. There mango lassi drink is delicious as well and far from sour like most Indian spots, this was mild light and just perfect. I love the fact that they play Bollywood music and the atmosphere is cozy. My family and I came here on a Monday and it felt like a Friday. Amazing food as always. The cauliflower appetizer is one of our favorites; as is the lamb patties. Some of our staple dishes are the lamb saag and the vindaloo; yes, two very different spectrums of flavor and spiciness level. The cucumber basil martini is very refreshing. And the mango lassi can really help to cool down the palate. The onion and cilantro naan is a crowd pleaser and the samosas are one of the kid's favorites. I was new to the Indian food scene so I was always unsure of what to order however my friend convinced me that the food was worth trying. After trying quite a few different places in RI I have to say Rasoi sticks out as my top place for Indian food in RI. Sure it's located in Pawtucket and another very well known Indian restaurant is down the street but I believe that Rasoi is worth the drive. Obviously a stand out dish I could eat non stop would be cauliflower 65. I enjoyed the classic fares tandoori chicken, chicken tiki and I had some of the best lentils I have ever had here! Went to Rasoi for the first time this week with my boyfriend. We started off with the lamb kabob and potato and pea samosas. The lamb kabob was so flavorful, I took a bite and my mouth immediately started watering! For our main meals, I ordered the chicken tikka labadar, he ordered the lamb vindaloo, and we opted for the rosemary naan. The chicken tikka was cooked to perfection, they also provide great portions that I was able to take some home for the next day. Which reheats quite nicely if I say so myself. I took a bite of his lamb vindaloo and it definitely had a kick to it. I wish that there were half stars! This is a solid 4.5--not a star so bright as to dazzle, but surely shining. I am married to an Indian and spend most of my time with Indians, so I am familiar with (and judgmental about) the food of the Subcontinent. This is a good restaurant with friendly, excellent service. I have eaten here only once, but these are my initial impressions. My friend and I were disappointed that we could not order the thalis that we both wanted. It was 5 pm, and we were told that they were served only from 6 to 8 pm. It would have been helpful to have that information on the menu. We were not great fans of the chaat, which was too soggy and bland, but my friend seemed happy with the tandoori chicken--purportedly slow-cooked in a tandoor the traditional way. I tasted it, but since my husband is the Undisputed Tandoori King, I was unimpressed. (It was too dry and not tender enough. The King marinates his heavenly dish for a minimum of two days, and it is moist and succulent.) My spicy garlic shrimp was, as I requested it, spiced into the blazing range. I wanted the sauce to be somewhat more complex, but had no other complaints. The rice was merely okay (again, I thought that it was too dry, and did not even soak up the shrimp sauce.) The raita and the dal were both fine. The sweet lassi was neither the best nor the worst I have had. The naan was outstanding. Why would I go for that half star? The staff made up for some of the other shortcomings by its attentiveness and warmth. They checked back with us often, offered suggestions, did not chide us for dawdling over dinner or sitting long after we had paid the check. They also packed up the leftovers well and without complaint. We have been to this restaurant on several occasions since we recently moved to the city. Thefood is good and the place is nice. The Lamb chops are particularly delicious the okra dish is well conceived and the breads are well-made. In general we find this to be the best Indian restaurant in Providence. However, yesterday evening were rushed by the staff who began to put the chairs on the table and started to brighten the lights as we and people at another table were finishing our meal, which was all very disconcerting and showed a lack of consideration for their clients . (Hence one less star.) This is not good practice and I hope it never happens again. read more

I came in for lunch based on other reviews and wasn't dissapointed! The place is extreamly clean, with a brightly lit dining room as if to challenging you to find a spec of dirt (you won't). I had the veg lunch option with naan and left full and ready for a nap. The salad was simple and delicious- the paneer perfect, chutney sweet but not too sweet. The only part I wasn't crazy for was the cauliflower (which the rest of yelp seems to love). Lets call it what it is- general tso cauliflower, and it isn't remotely Indian. One star off for the strangely uncomfortable bar seating (no foot rest bar, the chairs don't slide so getting in them and out is awkward) and for the manager who served me- who doesn't seem to know how to smile. I recently took a friend who had never tried Indian Cuisine. I suggested he try a Byriani a true delight when prepared properly. It was quite disappointing. The lamb was very tough and chewy making a poor imitation of real Byriani. The naan was excellent and the service average. If I ever return I won't be having Byriani. Great Indian restaurant! If you want to try a variety of dishes, the Thali is a good choice. It includes 5-6 different dishes with rice and naan and has both meat (Nirvana) and vegetarian (Satvic) options (photos added). Members of our group ordered both of these platters and were very pleased. Others in the group ordered Chicken Korma and Saag Tofu, which were also very good. We plan to go back when we are in town. Rasoi is not my favorite Indian restaurant in RI. It is my favourite restaurant, PERIOD. I have long loved the complex flavors of this cuisine and have eaten at all of them in my 30+ years in the state, but none can hold a candle to Rasoi. It is the whole package--delicious food, very knowledgable and courteous staff and a stunningly beautiful decor that belies its strip mall location. I have been dining at Raspi since its inception. During that time I have been an omnivore, a vegetarian and, for the last 3 years a strict vegan. Rasoi's kitchen has never failed to deliver in quality, quantity oe deliciousness. Unlike many restaurants that tout their veggie cred, Radio's meatless options are are integral part of the menu from appetizers to dessert. I have enjoyed all the vegan entrees, but I must say that the Saag Tofu is sublime--and I don't even like tofu! The lentil soup is also delicious and charmingly varies ever do slightly each time I have it, just as I would expect if my Indian grandmother served me in her home kitchen...that is if I had an Indian grandmother. I do feel like family when I go to Rasoi and am greeted warmly and by NAME by managers and servers alike. I dine there 3 to 4 times a month, and often get a comfort food fix after a hard day ar work of a side of saag, vegan style and the incredible spinach mushroom soup--to which I am ADDICTED-- and an order of pappadum and assorted chutneys. I call about 15 minutes before I plan to arrive and my meal is either ready when I arrive or being completed. I can't complete this review without a mention of the Saturday lunch buffet. 100% vegan and gluten free and super tasty! I have brought mant2 friends to this repast, non of whom are themselves vegan and thet find it so yummy that they do not miss the meat. One confirmed carnivore swore that thete must have been meat because HE would not have enjoyed a "rabbit food" buffet! I have enjoyed Rasoi with parties as large as 12, as small as 2 and as a solo diner. Regardless, I have received the same experienced the same welcome and impeccable service and truly fine food. Rasoi is a gem in Pawtucket and I hope to dine there for years to come. It is the ONLY food I eat that I don't prepare myaelf. Kudos! read more
