I don't get it. How does this place have 4.5 stars. I love Indian food and must eat Indian at least twice a week. I literally go to every Indian restaurant I can find. I was really disappointed when I came here. The Sunday buffet was very lacking. The selection was very weak. One chicken dish and one lamb dish. Where were the standards! !!!! Chicken curry? Machni? Tikka? Vindalo? Atleast one!!! And the lamb... was ground lamb... the kind u buy for hamburgers. Where was the actual lamb or goat curries!!!! I was really dissapointed. I have tried a lot and I mean a lot of Indian restaurants in the area, and Rasoi is by far the best! The service is great the decor is lovely and the food is out of this world. The shrimp and scallop moilee is a solid five star dish! And everything else is rave worthy as well! One of my two favorite places for Indian food in RI, and certainly the best on Hope St/East Ave. excellent choices for vegetarians -- I usually get the hardboiled egg and potato curry, but, honestly, everything here is great. Honestly, I'm not impressed. For years I've heard great reviews about rasoi. I've also heard that this is the best Indian meal in providence. I just don't agree. I've eaten here on 4 occasions, each time thinking/hoping it would change my mind, but every time I've been disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the curries taste good. They're just not up to par with the meals I've had at Kabob and Curry and Not Just Snacks. I don't think I'll go back unless urged by a curious friend. read more

I'm vegan by choice and gluten-free by necessity, and this is one of the few places in town where I can order stuff right off the men, without having to first call the chef and give a textbook lesson on what vegan or gluten-free means. They get it. The food is always outstanding. I actually have to avoid this place sometimes because I tend to eat until I am overfull when I am here. They have a vegan AND gluten-free BUFFET on Saturdays. Seriously. I never thought I'd get to go to a buffet again, after I found out I had to eat gluten-free. but i can do it here. My one complaint - and it is minor - is that last time i was there, even though I specifically mentioned that I was eating gluten-free and ordered a gluten-free dish, they brought out the usual basket of bread and stuck it right under my nose. If you're going to serve complimentary food to the table, and someone at the table has a food restriction, it would at least be nice to put food on the other side of the table. (This is especially so since this food restriction is new to me, and I am afraid of forgetting that I can't eat gluten - which would be easy to do when a basket of bread is directly under your nose.) read more

I dig Indian/ Indian type food. The use of spice combinations set my tastebuds into overload. The depth and stratum of flavors mixed with textures keeps me ready for more. Enter: Rasoi. This little place holds true to the above expectations......somewhat. First, in a lo-buck fashion, Rasoi insists upon itself to be this "trendy" Indian bar/grill. As soon as you walk in, A 60 plus inch TV voluminously vomits in crystal clear HD, all kinds of vexing, annoying, chinsy costumed, ill-choreographed "Bolly-wood" junk, unfit for any eye whomsoever....(As if all that stuff ain't the aforementioned)...This was seriously enough to make the Doodlebops cringe. Now then.... (Sorry, bollywood ain my game) THE FOOD: I want to be knocked out by cardmom, klunked over the head with cumin, curry, saffron,jasmine.... Though Rassoi don' carry a big stick, It's still a great lil place, the portions are somewhat fair. (Except the lentils, they're fantastic, but not enough in the bowl to mix with the white rice.) I don't do reviews of bad places, and I generally think that Yelp is a coward's tool. However, I do like to complement places on their service. Rasoi, you get 5 stars. Chicken Korma and Tikka Lababdar. Honey and Ginger Naan, Onion and Cilantro Naan. I'm not going to unleash the foodie adjectives on you. It was great. I loved it, and I plan on going back frequently. The service, our server in particular, was the man: attentive, personality, and prompt. Just go to the restaurant and eat. I'm going to the buffet tomorrow if there is not a snowpocalypse. P.S. Most of their dishes are gluten free, and labeled as so. I am actually gluten free by a doctor's order-not one of those trendy yupsters (yuppies and hispters) who does not eat gluten because Agelina Jolie says it's bad for you. I generally don't like Indian food, but this place made me enjoy it. Though it wasn't. my absolute favorite, it still made me want to expand my horizons to Indian food. It is a great place to start if you're trying Indian food for the first time. I recommend the honey ginger naan, the cauliflower 65, and finally the lamb galoudi kebab. read more

Made some quick reservations for the same night for a party of 8. We were seated comfortably in the front corner and our waiter was awesome. I have only gotten food to go from here but it was so amazing. I always get Bhindi Masala when I get Indian food. They make it just right here...not too much oil, good flavor and okra is cooked just right (not too crispy and not too soggy). Rasoi has some of the kindest, most hard-working staff. Having worked on the murals for their other restaurant in East Greenwich, Rasa, I know that this comes in part from the supportive, fair, and innovative owner Sanjiv. Sanjiv trusts in his employees to do an excellent job, and it seems they strive very hard to live up to that expectation. He is a model for me for how to be a successful business owner, even just from what little interaction I have had with him. The managers are also really wonderful. They make regulars feel very welcomed, and make a point to say hello. Everything is delicious and everyone is wonderful, but I must say that our very favorite thing about Rasoi is the gluten free and vegan buffet on Saturdays. It is very nice to see them offering these things. My husband needs to eat gluten free, so having an entire buffet of choices available where he doesn't have to second-guess things or ask tons of questions is a really big relief. Rasoi and Box Seats are by far the two best restaurants in the area for those who need to eat gluten free...but only Rasoi has a weekly buffet! I know that my friends who have a vegan food-based business of their own also would put Rasoi at the top of their list of favorites. The lentil donuts reach levels of fried comfort food yumminess that few gluten free options do - and having them on a buffet with much healthier options helps ensure that we don't over-indulge. When choosing single items from the menu, my GF husband typically goes for the dosas - and may I say THANK YOU for getting rid of the not-gluten-free dosas, as that was always a little concerning. (We would always wonder - Is the dosa cooking surface cleaned off in between enough to avoid cross-contamination? Are they really understanding how important it is that it be this type of dosa, not that type of dosa? How would we really know the difference from looking if we got the wrong one?) Even with all those concerns in the past, as we've been trained to have from other restaurants who purport to have gluten free options but don't really take proper care, we never once had any problem at Rasoi. My husband and I decided to check Rasoi's out after reading great reviews on Yelp. It was delicious! Our waiter was super nice, attentive and gave us great recommendations. I've only eaten Indian food when it was a buffet (Kashmir on Newbury St) so I was a little nervous on what to order. This is what we ordered: Chicken Tikka Labadar, Bengali Seafood stew, paneer naan and also an appetizer that was on their special's menu. We really enjoyed everything. The chicken tikka was so flavorful and creamy (great to dip your naan or mix it with your basamati rice). The stew was the waiter's recommendation and it was just perfect! It had pieces of scallop, mussle (small ones), fish along with peas and other veggies. It was so good. One small minor thing is, the stew was a bit on the salty side but I guess if you mix it with the rice, it makes it less salty. Anyways, overall great place to eat. We would definitely go there again. The atmosphere was nice as well. Oh also, for drinks, I had the cosmo (which was good and the martini glass was frosted) and my husband had some pineapple/rum drink and then finished with an Indian beer - Taj Mahal (mild but still pretty good). read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Rhode Island, period. Went to Rasoi this past Saturday with my cousin and friend. We arrived around 5:15, and the place was almost empty. By 6:30, there wasn't an empty seat, so I would suggest getting there early. We started off with cocktails- i had a lychee martini, which was divine. Great lychee flavor, made strong. For our apps, we had the beloved cauliflower 65- fried cauliflower, tossed with a sweet & spicy sauce. Fantastic. We also had the honey and ginger naan, a bit sweet, but good. For my entree, I had the dosa, which is a paper-thin rice flour crepe, stuffed with minced spiced chicken and peas. It was served with a mild coconut chutney. The portion was so.big, i ate half there and took the other half home. For first timers, I would recommend the Thali,.which is like your own personal buffet for $17.99, and includes both vegeterian and meat and seafood options read more

Very Consistent. Ordered multiple dishes here and manytimes. Everyime they have managed to please me. I LOVE their menu for having detailed allergen information such as dairy, gluten. The vegan brunch on Saturdays was phenomenal. I had the mutton masala, madras chicken and both were excellent. Only nitpick was that as someone who had authentic shrimp moilee the one rasoi serves had way too much thick coconut milk. It is supposed to be thinner. Rasoi is a hidden culinary gem in the middle of a lackluster Pawtucket backdrop. I was admittedly concerned with my dining choice upon pulling up to the restaurant the first time, but immediately after walking inside one forgets the dank, dingy strip-mall outdoors. The decor is brightly colored-- very airy and open, clean and crisp. The waitstaff is exceptionally friendly, as we had several servers attend to our table, all equally eager to help us select entrees and make sure we understood the various options. The menu serves food from the coastal regions of India and thus there are many seafood choices, but all selections are prepared and presented to perfection. Given the obviously capable hands of the chefs, I'd bet that any dish would be a good choice. It seems that this restaurant is trying to introduce its patrons to a side of Indian cuisine besides what we Americans are mostly familiar with, and it works! The minute a patron takes the first bite, he/she is happily pleased and perhaps also pleasantly surprised by the exotic combination of flavors in each bite. In all, Rasoi provides eclectic dishes, served by professional and experienced serving staff at very reasonable prices. I will most certainly return to this restaurant in the future, and I wish the business much success. read more

Came here for the Sunday regional brunch. There were only two vegetarian dishes, which was really unexpected for an Indian buffet. Edit: I returned here this weekend on a Saturday and was impressed with the vegan buffet. I was very disappointed with the Sunday buffet but can recommend the Saturday for vegetarians. read more

Sadly, service at this beloved spot has gone downhill. As they struggle to make more on the margin, they have lost what made them special in the first place. Four weeks in a row, our take-out order has arrived incomplete and without the food we wanted. And each time, there's no response to the restaurant other than "we are sorry." I tried the buffet, which for 12.50 plus taxes is a vegetarian buffet without a lot of good options. No Nan is served, the veggies are not up to the mark, the dosas served are cold, phirni ( just 1 desert which was served in the buffet) was watery. Paneer beet root wasn't good...even after being charged so much there wasn't dal on the buffet. I also tried the thali ( which you serve for $17.99 ) during lunch, it has more than half the dishes from the buffet and isn't value for money at all. I compare all this with the numerous Indian buffets i have tried over the years in Ohio/NYC/MA/LA & Atlanta. I go regularly to restaurants like Maharaja ( Harvard Square ), Ritu ki Rasoi ( Burlington ) , Tanjore ( Harvard Square ), Minerva ( Natick ) and find the buffets amazing with so many options for the same money and quality food. I will be honest, as someone who eats Indian food often, i do have certain set of expectations and this wasn't what i expected. This is again not a reflection on the service, service was good but food was not. Hope this helps! read more

We are regulars at one of the sister restaurants - RASA and have always really enjoyed the food there. However, this past weekend we catered a dinner for a party from Rasoi and it was an amazing experience from start to finish...Sandeep Bhatia was wonderful to work with (loved his attention to detail and the guidance he provided); went for a tasting and Sanjiv Dhar the owner-chef gave us an amazing treat and had us hooked. The food delivered at the party was just fantastic and so was the service, the presentation...our 30+ out of state (UK, INDIA, Texas, Chicago) gave rave reviews and could not believe the mall state of RI had such a gem - so a big thank you! read more

Rasoi was my first experience with Indian food and six years later it is still my favorite. The food is consistently delicious. I have a tendency with restaurants to find something on the menu I love and never stray, but at Rasoi I really try to branch out and thus far I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. I do have favorites, though - for appetizers, the Aloo Tikki Chaat is out of this world, and for entrees, the Chicken Tikka Lababdar and Dal Makhani tie for two of my favorite dishes not just at Rasoi, but pretty much anywhere. One of the most remarkable things about this restaurant, though, is the wonderful staff. I have not ever encountered a single member of staff at Rasoi in all the years I have been going there who was not exceptionally courteous and pleasant. My family and I occasionally order takeout and they are always super accommodating, we've never had a problem either dining in or taking out. Just a great place! read more

We had a team lunch of 6 people and ordered take away. I personally picked up the order. The taste was good. However, I didn't liked couple of things with this restaurant. 1) Politeness: The way they took orders on phone. Absolutely not friendly. Generally when customer gives and order may or may not ask for discounts. The discount request can be returned gracefully. However, my friend experienced rude 2 word answer 'No discount'. I personally didn't expect such reply from a 'Restaurant'. 2) Portion: Each items ordered were too less in portion. Portion of 'Tawa Jhinga' was terrible. For $6.99 I have received "4 prawns and a little Spinach". Same case with 'Paneer Tikka'. For $6.50 served only 4 pieces of paneer with little green paper and onion. I don't think the paneer or Shrimp are that costly? We ordered Garlic Naan, it's neither served nor billed. 3) I paid over phone while giving order. However, when I reached to pick up the order, the lady on the counter asked me to pay up front without checking in her system. That's humiliating. What's is the use of computers on your desk. She confirmed that I have an order to pick up but she didn't get that it's already been paid? The location of this restaurant is deep inside the residential area from main roads. With above given experiences, I would not take that much pain to go in this restaurant again. read more
