They have good service good food and the cashews were super nice and the wait was super fast

Music for customers to listen to while they enjoy their treats

I'm a Latina that married into a huge Mexican family that has taught me how to eat and enjoy all Mexican food and their so called "sweets" (candy, pastries, chips, and fruit concoctions) It's like they add CHILE (spicy powder/liquid) to everything. So here's what I can tell you... First of all, foods and sweets vary depending on the region they're from, in this case, EL ZALATE is a small city in Sinaloa (from what I was told) So everyone makes these fruit concoctions differently. Second, the names to half of their desserts don't describe what you're ordering or what they have but THANKFULLY this small spot has large colorful posters all over their restaurant for you to get a visual of what you're ordering and what's in it. You can always ask them what's exactly in them, and they don't mind leaving things out if you ask. Lastly, the place is perfect for kids and families to enjoy an evening or after school snack. It's always clean, the employees are very polite and willing to explain all of their items on the Menu. They've been pretty spot-on with the things they advise (say you don't like peanuts, chile, or a specific fruit) but it's definitely not your typical ice cream spot. This is a place that will hook it up and there's definitely something on the Menu for everyone. My husband and I tried their juices and they were too sweet for our liking for being freshly made... Hibiscus [Jamaica] juice and Horchata. Lots of places in the valley that make them differently; heck, if you go next door to the Pupusa restaurant and try THEIR Salvadoran Horchata, you'll see what a HUGE difference there is considering it's from a completely different country. I highly recommend this to everyone and anyone with a sweet tooth wanting to try something different than your typical ice cream and yogurt spot. Sitting area is big enough for small groups. In a sketchy neighborhood but trust me, there's plenty of traffic in the area, you should be okay. We got out of the bike trail headed to the University of Phoenix stadium to get a quick refresher and were sold on the first visit. Authentic Mexican desserts, snacks, and everything in between.

Love that this is so close to church so I can get my Mango Loco fix that much quicker. The place is very clean and has several tables to accommodate customers. It's super helpful that they have posters of the various menu items so you can have an idea of what you're getting. BONUS: They carry Thrifty's ice cream!! Yippee!

Best raspados in town! Place is always clean and inviting. I'm addicted to the lemon raspados, the fresas con crema, and the tosti-cheviche!

    Mango Loco

My favorite place for snacking. Mango Loco has everything but the kitchen sink, yumm! Their elotes are huge and awesomely delicious.

Great tasting Diablitos!!! I always come here for a Diablito because they make it exactly how I like it. I recommend coming in the morning/afternoon and when it's not so busy because that is when they make it absolutely perfect. The only thing I don't like is that they are a bit rude. I know little Spanish and the little Spanish I do know I try to use and explain what I want. The cashier just looked at me ugly and told me "que?" Not even bothering to help me out or speak even one word in English for me. Other than that the food and drinks are great

mangoneada, a real mango popsicle made churrumais style with lemon and chili. So yum.

Delicious fresh fruit frozen treats in a well air conditioned shop. I got the mangoneada, a homemade mango popsicle made churrumais style w/ lemon and chili. Perfect for the heat of Arizona summers.

There is a nice variety of sweet treats, and the service provided by the team inside the truck was stellar. One of our student organizations was hosting The Scookie Bar, and after walking around their event, you could score a ticket for a complimentary Scookie. As we pre-ordered so many as incentives for our students, I thought I'd give it a try. Unfortunately, something wasn't set up properly so we didn't have the cookies themselves, but we did have sundaes. We had six options to decide between. I went with The Standard consisting of vanilla ice cream, chocolate chips, and chocolate sauce, and on a normal day, there would have bene a chocolate chip cookie, too. The other five options included the Chocolate Lover, The Celebration, The Signature, Reese's Lover, and The VNA. While I enjoyed the sundae, I'm sure it would have been even better with the cookie included. The Scookie Bar is "where the scoop met the cookie" and serves freshly baked, warm deep-dish skillet cookies also known as scookies. They have a location at The Churchill in Downtown Phoenix, though I would assume I would more regularly see them when their food truck stops by ASU. Their Churchill location is closed on Monday but open Tuesday through Friday from 5-10 PM and Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 10 PM. If you want to order catering, it includes 2 hours of service and a 100 scookie minimum. They can provide a Build Your Own Menu where guests can choose the cookie, ice cream, and toppings, or they can choose from the Signature Scookie Menu which is what ASU did. They have been operating since 2016 in Phoenix. Now that I realize that I was missing the chocolate chip cookie, I need to try it again with that included! I definitely recommend this sweet treat to others.

I can't speak on the customer service as we never left our table and our waited just walked over and got what we needed. We were pretty stuffed from our massive meal, but we decided on sharing a cup of gelato just to satisfy our sweet tooth. I peeked inside as our table was right at a little walkway from the restaurant to the bakery. Gelato is just one of many things they serve here. They also have all your typical Italian desserts. Cakes like tiramisu, pastries like Italian flag cookies, cookies like Italian wedding cookies, cannolis of different varieties, and of course gelato. What was suggested to us if we wanted gelato was the hazelnut flavor. I was expecting a little cup for the 6 of us just to get a taste, but what he brought over was a massive serving. I don't know how many scoops it was or even how much we even paid, but we all got plenty with some even left behind. Now this gelato was life changing. Probably the best I've had in the states. I know it's gotta be way better in Italy, but I'll take what I can when I can. Think of a Ferrero Rocher but in gelato form. It was delicious and I couldn't get enough of it. It wasn't overly sweet and it had a little crunch with bits of chocolate and hazelnuts. My sweet tooth was extremely satisfied after having dessert here. I have literally been thinking about that gelato since I left Phoenix. Luckily this company has locations in Texas so I will definitely be seeking out this gelato soon.

Have a meal at The Sicilian Butcher and then follow that up with dessert at The Sicilian Baker. There are several locations in town, with this one being in North Phoenix. On my most recent visit, I stopped by on a Thursday. Parking tends to be busy in their complimentary lot, but you'll find a spot. Ambiance (4/5): The Sicilian Baker is connected to The Sicilian Butcher. It's a small bakery, with only a few seats. More of a grab-and-go type of spot or the source of your dessert if you're dining at the restaurant. While small, the decor and ambiance is nice. Service (3/5): A little bit of bad luck, but on my most recent visit, they were having trouble with their refrigeration so no gelato was available. While interacting with the staff, it was an average experience. I will say that the service was much better in the restaurant. Drinks (N/A): I only got dessert, but they do have coffee and a few other beverages available. Food (4/5): The Sicilian Baker is known for its cannolis, tiramisu, gelato, and lobster claws (dessert, not real lobster haha). On my most recent visit, I had a cannoli. They have your classic cannoli but also a nice variety of other fillings including pistachio, Reese's, and more. A+ for creativity, though I decided to stick with the classic. Solid. In fact, all of the desserts I've had here over the years have been quite good.

It's smooth, rich without being too heavy, and the flavor actually develops as you eat it instead of just being one-note sweet. You can tell they take this part seriously. Leave it outside the fridge for an hour and watch that cheesecake melt on your tongue crystals (if you have the patience for that) Their rotating monthly flavors keeps things interesting, and you're not just stuck with the same lineup every time. Out of what I tried, the banana pudding one was easily a standout--super nostalgic, creamy, and just done right without being overly sweet. The coconut one was also up there, more subtle but still really clean and flavorful. Love me some coconut! They also have a punch card system--buy 9 slices, get the 10th free--which is a nice touch. It lowkey turns into a mission because once you've tried one flavor, you kinda want to work your way through all of them anyway. Now...the downside. The customer service just isn't great. It's not aggressive or anything, just noticeably lacking. There's not much warmth or engagement--it feels pretty transactional. For a place that clearly puts effort into their product, you'd expect at least a baseline level of hospitality, and it's just not really there. So overall, if you're going to Banhams, go for the cheesecake. The rotating flavors keep it fresh, the quality is legit, and it's definitely worth trying. Just don't expect much from the service side, and you'll enjoy it a lot more.
