Went to get my haircut, met barber Mark. He was terrific. He did a great job, professional. Good service. Couldn't of asked for more.

I started going to this place when I started working a couple of blocks away and didn't have time to run up to my usual place. So I figured I'd give these guys a try. For $18, it's pretty cheap as far as haircuts go. I got my hair cut here a few times. First few times were fine but after one particularly mediocre cut, I stopped coming here except in emergencies where it's absolutely necessary. To be fair, if you're married, have kids, are old, or whatever and you don't need to worry too much about what your hair looks like, then you're fine coming here. You'll walk out with a perfectly respectable cut. But I'm a young bachelor still so my hair has to look good. Also, my hair is thick and somewhat wavy and needs the expert hands of a true professional which is why I've since gone back to Geno's Barberia in the West Village. read more

Incredibly rude and terrible service. Like some of the other reviewers have mentioned, he butchered my hair and rushed me out of there. Over $40 for a terrible haircut and demanded a tip as well. Pretty good place. I didn't want to venture out to my normal shop in the east village so I settled for here. The guy that cut my hair was pretty skilled and did a very clean/nice job. However, its a little pricer than my normal shop. (Costs $22) and they don't clean you up with a razor neck shave and hot towel like my typical barber does. It says they do on the side of yelp so it swayed be to come here and they didn't live up to that expectation. But overall it was a good quality haircut and I would maybe come back. I recently moved to NYC and had no clue where to get my hair cut. I decided to give Ray's a shot based on the amazing reviews on here. Best. Decision. Ever. The place has that old school barbershop feeling but looks much nicer than most of the shops I've seen. Alex cut my hair and did an amazing job managing my cowlick. No harsh razor burn or rushing to finish like most places do when they get busy. I told him what I wanted and he did an amazing job. Hands down one of the best haircuts ever. I had a great experience at Rays. I have been to virtually every barber shop in FiDi and Rays seems to be the best. They have the same competitive price for a haircut in the area ($20) but also have multiple barbers along with a great place. I sat down with Alex. Best and Classic barber shop ever I visited. For years, my normal order is "number 3 on the sides and scissor on top". Ray's Barber shop, or my hair designer Sean made realize what I always wanted on my hair style. Inside the shop was very classic with about 10 haircut chairs covered with crocodile style leather. Every single staff is very well trained to provide the customer service I always wanted (I'm extremely picky given my background - Japanese) with lots of haircut options to choose from. You will notice the difference in customer service when you make a single phone call, which I did. I will be back in a month or two again! read more

I am new to the neighborhood and was looking for a new barbershop. I decided to visit raise based on a recommendation from a dapper colleague. I had an incredible experience. There were at least five Barbara's working so I had to wait no more than a quick five minutes. Alex cut my hair and he was very friendly to speak to and he was even able to fix a previous bad haircut.. I am always skeptical about a new barber but I could not have been more happy with my experience here. Rolled into Ray's on a Thursday evening to get a cut. I was in desperate need. I was taken immediately. Not only did my stylist (Mary) listen to my insane instructions, she did a fantastic and thorough job. For $22 I can't think of a better place to get your haircut in TriBeCa or really anywhere. I typically get my hair done by a stylist in the suburbs for $50, but was super surprised with everyone here so far. I used to have anyone who was available do my hair before the pandemic, and honestly wasn't sure if they would survive as a result of COVID. For the past few years I've changed barbers approximately every 2nd or 3rd cut I work downtown and some of the places nearby are inexpensive but its been hit or miss for me with very few hits. Usually the downtown barber shops that I visited were not particularly clean and I felt as if I was being rushed in and out with barely enough time to converse with the barber to explain what I wanted or explain if something was incorrect. Often a very unsatisfying experience that made me move on to the next place. Ray's is unlike all others. The barber shop is clean, spacious and comfortable. There is usually a minimal wait if any at all. They greet you in a very friendly way and make you feel comfortable right away. You don't have to sit on a cracked vinyl chair with the stuffing coming out, they have nice comfortable leather chairs with plenty of space to put your belongings out of the way. Ray's is run by a husband and wife team and its obvious that they take care of the finer details. The barbers themselves are professional looking and friendly. Rufina was the next available barber when it was my turn. She greeted me in a pleasant, professional way and took time to discuss what type of cut I was looking for. She made a few recommendations went to work. She didn't rush at all but worked efficiently and with obvious care about the end result. I was very pleased and even received many compliments by co-workers. I've now been to Rays 3 times myself and brought my 11 year old son twice. So Rays broke the cycle I've had switching barbers and I expect to stay with this shop and with Rufina as my barber. I highly recommend them. read more

Was going there for the past year, but their service only got worse over the time. The cuts are always rushed, they never clean the extra hair on your head, which leaves you with a mess; the barber I went to last time was judging me for not cutting my hair im 2 months cause I was busy! I went in for a haircut and the older man in the back told me to sit in his chair. I showed him a pic of what I wanted, and continued to explain how I like it during the cut. I was not pleased with the way it was turning out and after expressing that, he was beyond rude. He eventually stopped the haircut because he "lost his patience" and told me to leave the shop and would not let me pay. He was past the point of unprofessional and the haircut was not even completed because of his "lost patience" even with an empty shop. That is NOT a way to run a business. If the customer is not pleased, you should work with them, not take your anger and lost patience out on them. Beyond distasteful. read more

The guy was middle aged, didn't smile at all, didn't listen to me or ask any questions and straight went to work with whatever little I could say. Then in 5 minutes I was done and on to the next one. Haircut was all over the place, side of my head had a hair patch hanging out. I felt like I was part of an assembly line. Not worth it for $28 for me. Not going there again. read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years now starting back when they were located on Chambers St. Although I'm a regular with Ray, I've been through most of the barbers and can say that I'd be comfortable with any of them cutting my hair. Update to my first review - This place is still great! It's still super clean like when they first opened. All the equipment is new. You'll notice the chairs are ridiculously comfortable. The atmosphere is friendly. It really stands out from other places I've been coming to the new shop since it opened I can see Ray's has a ton of repeat business. Also even though there are always people getting haircuts, shaves, etc there is never really a wait for walk-ins because they have many chairs. I will be going to Lily until all my hair falls out! read more
