Ray's rocks! If they had 5 stars and a Powerball, that's the rating I'd give. As previously reported, a truly sharp, clean flat top is difficult to do. Ray does it, flawlessly, every time. Make sure to ask for Ray; if they're not busy with other clients, all the other barbers come watch him. A little haircut history: Ray's stands literally in the shadow of the Freedom Tower. After 9/11, many of the cops and firefighters around here started getting flat tops. The taper you see here on the sides is how they liked it, so it's known as the Irish Style. Many Latino guys like the sides to go straight up, known as the Spanish Style. Pay no attention to the model in these pictures, just the haircut. This is how a flattop should look. It bears repetition: Ray's Rocks!

Awful scratches from my boyfriends recent experience here... not cool! Train your barbers
Elena B.

I'm writing this review for my boyfriend because he will not. Today, he went in for his weekly hair cut and the barber that cut his hair left him with some painful awful looking scratches in the back of his neck! Like an animal scratched him! Picture below! Not happy about this! And it's actually as painful as it looks! I'm not letting him go back there!

Glass dividers between chairs

Great barber, fast service, clean, with a fair price and practicing all social distancing rules. They have dividers for each seat and offer masks if you forgot yours!

Went to get my haircut, met barber Mark. He was terrific. He did a great job, professional. Good service. Couldn't of asked for more.

Will admit though, the place is pretty expensive for a simple haircut.

Then I resorted to yelp search for the best men's haircut salon in the area. Tina's salon came up as the top-rated and reviewed option. I took a chance and booked an appointment. I'm glad I booked an appointment and visited Tina Nikolle's Salon. Tina was phenomenal. She gave me an awesome haircut and also trimmed my beard so that I can attend the wedding reception with the best looks! She is very good at what she does and more importantly extremely nice and kind person. Once you interact with her you know how much she loves her job and cares for her customers. One tip to add: If you are visiting for the first time, you may have trouble locating the salon. It's right next to De Janeiro. You have to find a small door on the right side (facing De Janeiro) and then take the elevator to 17th Floor. Tina's Salon is in Suite 1702.

I decided to try an upscale salon to see if there was truly a difference in the care and attention…read more From start to finish it was a great experience. Oka took an extraordinary amount of time talking to me and making sure to cut my hair as I expected. He was terrific. And so was Lake the individual who washed my hair. Never had so much attention paid to a wash. I will definitely be using this salon and in particular Oka from now on.

But most of those glowing reviews are pre-covid. I don't know if a lot of their stylists left but there's a notable lack of reviews post-covid. They're kind and the space feels lux and quiet. Problem is communication, went multiple times feeling very whelmed and changed stylist every time. After my third time I think I'm done, I've shown pictures and discussed with them what I wanted but they can never seem to get it right. Instead they default to a generic taper short off the sides and medium top cut, but then why tell me you can do the cut or even have experience with it? Is it my head shape? Face? Am I too ugly? Communicate that to me before you decide to just ignore the conversation we had and just free style. It's frustrating because I am growing out my hair for this cut and they do what they want. I don't want to be rude and stop you mid cut but then why am I paying so much just to be left unsatisfied? Most of the men leaving the place have the same exact cut. Anything longer than a short to medium cut is a no go, those cuts look clean and nice. Kept going in with shoulder length wavy hair just to get butchered every time.

Very old school barber shop. I got a shave and a haircut from Jerry and it was very well done…read more Nothing fancy here, but everything Jerry did was thorough and expertly done. I did call in advance to make sure he had time, he asked if I could stop by in 30 minutes, which was no problem. I was able to walk right in and get my shave and haircut.

I just saw a Times article about all the hipster barbershops opening up in Manhattan and was…read moreappalled by what I read. One jackass who charges $100 for a haircut talked about how a real barber (such as himself of course) only does 4 haircuts an hour. Really 4 haircuts an hour? That's 15 minutes each, which after getting in and out of the chair and prepping and combing equals about 10 minutes. You might as well go to supercuts to get that sort of crap haircut. Which brings me to Jerry's! If you are in the city and want to spend 1/3 of what some hipster doofus barber will charge you then check out Jerry's! I used to go to Jerry's consistently when I first started working in midtown but started going to a place in jersey near where I lived at the time, though I still pop over once in a while. If you are in midtown and want a good haircut, this is the place (great if you work in midtown and the boss is giving you crap about your shaggy hair). Mostly older barbers who can do a variety of styles (though I doubt they do shaggy hipster/bieber cuts). They give a very thorough, careful haircut. Usually lasts at least 25 minutes, since they actually take their time and go over it more than once to make sure it is perfect. It is pricey around $30ish I believe, but hey, its in midtown. And of course they use a straight razor, and less importantly but still really cool, they have an ancient hand cranked hot towel machine! P.S. Its very difficult to find (buried in the basement) so ask for directions at one of the rock center info desks located at each entrance.
