Do not take your alterations here at all costs. The tailor is unqualified to perform basic alterations and will gaslight you into thinking you're blind instead of accepting responsibility for improper work. I asked her for a basic hem on a satin dress and she destroyed it - took off over 3 inches more than was measured and sewed an uneven hem that is now impossible to correct because there is no fabric left. Instead of listening to my concerns and offering me a refund, she screamed at me and told me my dress was "too cheap to care about" (it's an expensive Simkhai dress with the tags on lol?), I was "crazy," and she "had no idea what happened." Completely unprofessional and unacceptable behavior by a business. I am now out over $300 for a dress I'll never be able to wear. read more

Took my vintage suede top to get a stain out, came back and the lady was having me pay and I happened to look and see a huge dark spot. After looking you can see they completely ruined the top- I asked what happened and she said the top was cheap and did not apologize for destroying it. She told me she they cannot dry clean or wash suede, mind you when I dropped it off they said they could get it out easily as this was all I brought in. I highly recommend Ray's French Cleaners!!! I use Ray's French Cleaners for dry cleaning and wash & fold. Russian Hill residents BEWARE, The Missing Sock can ruin your attire/towels/bedding and can leave a bleach residue. I have Sferra sheets and Frette pillow cases that are now ruined Rays will spot treat and use separate machines for colors and whites. Ray's offer wash and fold at a comparable price as well and you'll never have to worry about damages, missing socks and you don't have to buy detergent & softener. The attendants are gregarious and the quality of service will make you a repeat customer. read more

Wedding dress nightmare! Came on a Tuesday to drop off a dress to have a couple small stains removed for a wedding that I was in that Saturday. I made it clear when I dropped it off that I needed it before the event as I was traveling Saturday morning for it. I was promised I could pick up by 11am on Friday. Came to pick up around 3pm on Friday and was informed my dress was not only not done, but not even in the shop! I was told I could pick up the following week and when trying to explain the importance of needing it Friday was followed by a "nothing we can do about it" attitude. Finally was able to learn that the dress was relocated to another cleaners that was 30 min away. Had to move the rest of my day around to rush there before their 5pm close. After all this, the dress wasn't even ironed and I had to finish the job myself. Bummer because this shop is so close to home but unfortunately not a reliable biz and poor customer service so I won't be returning. read more

Very accommodating on the phone. Not so in person. I always feel like apologizing for bringing my clothes in, for actually giving these people some business. The woman at the counter is not friendly, not even close. She once refused to steam iron a dress I needed because I wasn't giving them enough time. Two days apparently wasn't enough time, even though she told me ON THE PHONE that it was plenty. I don't think she realizes that she needs me and my skanky-ass clothes to pay the rent for this joint. I'm not going there again. I can't stand patronizing glares on my day off (the ones I get at work are more than enough)! read more

Ray's would have received five stars but for a recent unfortunate experience. For years he has been our go-to cleaners for expensive garments (he is not as close as many cleaners, so a local company does shirts, etc.). My husband took in an expensive (my standards) Burberry raincoat. When he got it home, he discover one of the shoulder flaps had been torn off. He contacted Ray's immediately and they did something I consider dishonest. They told my husband they would "investigate" the problem and managed to beat the sixty-day rule for filing a claim. They ultimately did NOT replace the shoulder strap. My husband took the coat to Burberry and paid to have it repaired. Ray's should have "made good" on this problem. BUT: they generally do a great job on wool and silk items. Just be careful. read more

The quality and service at Ray's is unmatched. They are so accommodating about turn-around time and special requests that I can't imagine going anywhere else. I've done same-day-service with Ray's on more than one occasion and I've never had a problem getting the turn-around that I need. The only downfall: No Credit Cards accepted. They do take checks, though. read more

I dropped off my blouse to get cleaned and went to pick it up at the time it was supposed to be ready. The elderly woman there said it was not ready because the van that picked it up did not drop it off yet. I was confused because their dry cleaning is done right there at the exact location. So I left waited around the corner to see if a "van" was going to drop off my dry cleaning. It did not ever come. So I walked in and low and behold my blouse was hastily in a plastic rap. I took a look, they charged me a lot of money, and they did not even clean it! Do not use this dry cleaners. They are dishonest, take your money and don't provide the service you paid for. You get your clothes the same way you dropped them off. read more

They do a better job cleaning my shirts than any other cleaner I've been to in SF. No odd wrinkles or shiny spots from over-pressing. I haven't tried anything in the way of special requests or alterations, but they're always friendly when I come in. read more
