I went looking around the neighbourhood for a place that would do clothing alterations and what a pain in the butt trying to find non-wedding ones! I managed to locate Marvel Cleaners, in walking distance to me, and headed over on one of the days they list on their site for when a tailor is available. A really awesome lady came to help me and she gave me a private spot to change into the pants I needed hemmed. She was super fast on pinning and I gave her a few instructions for the changes I wanted, since it was a bit more complex than just shortening them (redo the tied parts on the bottom, plus move some of the buckles up instead of cutting them off). She gave me an estimate of three days which was way faster than I was expecting. I came back on the appointed day, and the same awesome lady looked up my order and got my pants out for me. They were perfect, it was exactly what I was hoping to see: shortened, ties still around the bottom of the legs, and buckles lifted up a tad! I tried them on when I got home and they fit just the way I wanted. Between the price, the speedy service, and the super friendly staff, I'm keeping this place on my list for whenever I need repairs or custom tailoring. read more

I received wash & fold service several times. The price was reasonable at $1.50 per pound, but the t-shirts were folded poorly and wrinkled, and the white underwear still had stains, Occasionally white towels would be returned with gray stains or marks that weren't there before. Even my jeans were folded with extra creases requiring ironing. I think the staff folds the clothes when they're still wet, perhaps saving on the cost of drying. I would say for each load of wash & fold not a lot of care is taken in washing or folding. The laundry looks each time as if it were done in great haste. And then recently the price went up to $2.00 a pound -- with no improvement whatsoever in the quality of the washing or folding. To spend $32 for a 16-pound load of wash & fold that, once you take it home, has to be refolded and makes you feel disappointed in the literal cleanliness of the entire laundry load is not a positive experience. read more

THEY DESERVE TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS AND NEVER BE HEARD FROM AGAIN.*** I have been bringing my laundry to this wash & fold for over two years. Never again. I do not know if there were recent ownership changes, though it seems the personnel has changed. The prices have also gone up steeply. That much I can understand, given that the price of everything has gone up in past few years. And I am always willing to pay a fair price for good service so long as everything is disclosed up front and conducted in good faith. In general, my laundry has come out weighing in the neighborhood of 35-45 pounds, and I have paid the per pound price accordingly. I have always used the same large black laundry bag, and I only have so many changes of T-shirts and boxers and the bag only holds so much, so it stands to reason that the overall weight would not fluctuate drastically from visit to visit. This time, however, the charge was $128, for what they claimed on the ticket was 64 pounds. But as noted above, I always bring in roughly the same amount, and this load did not strike me as especially heavy. I was suspicious, so I weighed everything on my own when I got home. I have photo evidence to back this assessment up. I first did the comparative version where I weighed myself alone and then weighed myself holding each bag separately, to determine the difference. Then I put the bags one at a time directly on the scale to confirm. The three weights were 21.6 pounds, 6.6 pounds, and 15.8 pounds. That adds up to a total 44 pounds. So this criminal business ripped me off to the tune of $2 per pound times 20 pounds, or $40. Once I uncovered this discrepancy, I called the main business line. Someone identifying herself as an owner answered. She said it was after business hours, but asked me to text a photo of the laundry, so I did, and she said that the clerk who received my order would call me. About an hour later the clerk called. She said she would check her records, but those were at the shop. I said that I did not understand what that would accomplish, because I have the laundry and it weighs around 45 pounds, not 64 pounds like they claimed. She at first attempted to say her English wasn't strong enough to understand what I was saying; I noted that so far as I could tell she could understand perfectly well what I was communicating, as indicated by her responses, but I was happy to repeat anything if necessary. She said she would call me back. That did not happen; I did not receive a call back that evening as promised, or at any time on the following day. So I have just now called the owner back at the number where I had texted her, and she immediately launched into a tirade accusing me of not telling the truth and of being a "liar." Sorry, but the owner of this establishment is a the liar, and she is also a thief, and she should not be permitted to run this or any other business. Do not even consider bringing this shop any business. It is an insult to all the other hard working men and women putting in an honest day's work in this city that this place is allowed to stay open. read more

That I go way out of my way to do my Dry Cleaning at Marvel Cleaners should be an indication of how happy I've been doing business with them over the years. I used to live right across the street when I lived on Nob Hill. For many years, I used a spot that no longer exists. That place did a solid job, but I wish I would have started coming here earlier. I've had nothing but great service - not one single issue in hundreds of visits. The service is friendly and family owned by the same folks for a long time. I now live in the Outer Richmond, but I make a special trip before and after work. Marvel has an on-site plant for cleaning and laundry. They are great about same day service. I've also had many alterations done and everything has turned out just as I wished. Prices are reflective of the market rate in the neighborhood. Maybe even a touch lower. They are open until 6:30pm during the week, but I've noticed that they've been staying a bit later over the last few months (Summer 2019). This was a long overdue shout to a great business. Wow! I am completely blown away with the dry cleaning outcome of my suit and suit dress. Before I brought my suit dress to Marvel, I had tried twice to dry clean it at other places in the city in an attempt to remove white deodorant stains with little success (the stains faded but were still there). As one last attempt, I brought it to Marvel and the stains have completely disappeared! The dress looks like new (it's 4 years old!). From missing draw strings from hoody, to washing an item when told to dryclean, to unable to find an item, but this last severed my business with them. Yes, I'm a fan and Marvel typically does good work. I've been there multiple times and have always enjoyed the alterations/dry cleaning. However, I am disappointed that I picked up a newly hemmed slip dress (which was well-done), only to find that a lot of weird stains had appeared. As you can see from the pictures, the tags are still on the dress, so I was really excited to wear it once it was altered. The dress cannot be dry cleaned so I hope to figure out a way to fix this... I'd give Marvel 10 stars if I could! I'm getting married in one week and this morning I got a make-up stain on my wedding dress. I went to three different dry cleaners in the neighborhood trying to find someone who could clean my dress quickly, but none of them had cleaning facilities on site and I didn't want to risk sending away my wedding dress. By the time I got to Marvel I was panicking. I explained my problem to the owner and she was so kind and understanding. It was in the afternoon and I asked her if it was possible for a same day pick up. She went out of her way to make sure they waited to clean the white clothes until they were able to add my dress, and told me I'd be able to pick it up in the evening. Not only was she accommodating and helpful, they did a great job. The dress was spotless and had been steamed, and looked better than it had before I stained it! Great place for both dry cleaning and wash & fold. The owner, Jo, is a very nice lady, no matter time of day, she's always pleasant and attentive. I first visited Marvel Cleaners when my dog had an accident on my down comforter (DOH!). If you have a down comforter, you know it can be terribly expensive to get it cleaned. I searched around on yelp and found this place, and made sure to drop it off before 10am to get the 20% discount. Comforter came back good as new and for a reasonable price, if I recall, ~$30 less the discount. Turnaround time was quick too. They take credit cards, including AMEX :) I had given into my hatred of laundry and started using Washio when it launched here in SF. It was a bit pricey, but having rolls and rolls of quarters on hand and going up and down flights of stairs to my building's basement isn't my idea of a good time. But Washio was SPENSIVE! Then I realized, "Hey! Marvel does wash & fold too!" Jo says she charges I think $1.50/lb, I think it's closer to $1.25. I have sensitive skin and while she said she'd use the non-scented detergent, she was more than happy to use my own detergent if I provided it! My clothes are always ready when promised and she can usually do a pretty quick turnaround on them. She folds all of the clothes very neatly and separates them thoughtfully (my bf's stuff in one pile, mine in another). My only complaint is some of my whites have come back a little dingy, but I'm sure if I bring it up, that'll be fixed. For me, to get consistent great service is worth the effort to throw my clothes in the back of my car and drop them off, as opposed to using a more convenient pickup service. read more

Yay for my dry cleaners! Although abstractly, nay for dry cleaning because it is verra verra bad for the Earth, what with all the toxic chemicals and plastics. The lady who runs this place is super nice. She is speedy and friendly and also endearingly motherly. One day I was running all around and had taken off my jacket 'cause I was hot, even though it was freezing out. She was worried I would be cold, so I explained about how I was so busy, and she was so nice and told me about how her daughter was too, oh kids these days, etc etc. It gave me the warm fuzzies to get a little dose of unexpected mothering from my dry cleaning lady. Also! My clothes come out nice and fluffy and I always save tons of $$ by utilizing the 20% early bird (pre 10 am) special. And it's cheap to start with! Today I got back 3 shirts and 2 dresses, all silk, for only $33! To make sure I get there in time for the worm/ discount, I usually I drop my stuff off on the way back from moving my car on street sweeping day. Now if that's not efficiency I don't know what is. The woman is very friendly and nice and they do accept credit cards however her machine was out of paper and she was waiting for her son to come in to refill the paper and she was very apologetic for it. I came to Marvel Cleaners for almost four years since it is one of the closer laundry/dry cleaning services to my old apartment. Everything has been great from the beginning. They are open early on weekdays and Saturdays, which is very convenient. Their location also allows one to park briefly either on Larkin or California, which is great if you are carrying a lot of clothes. Marvel Cleaners tackled everything I've given them: down comforters, duvets, shirts, ties, pocket squares, specialty sheets, etc. Everything always came back on time, perfectly cleaned, and in order. I gave them the coveted 5th star because the lady who runs the place takes one extra step towards making the experience a more positive one. She returned everything I ever forgot (change, brass collar stays, etc.), pointed my attention to loose buttons, tears, or other damage I may have missed, and always took care of my clothes when I was in a hurry. In other words, Marvel Cleaners provides a stress-free laundry service experience. Two thumbs up. read more

While the owner appears to be nice, you have to be careful to note what you're dropping off and what she's marking on the sheet. I dropped off a couple shirts and dresses (simple work wear, nothing fancy) as well as a polyester jump suit that needed to be hemmed. I didn't even think about checking the price of the alterations because I just assumed it would be less than 20 bucks (jumpsuit was $40 full price and I only needed them to be hemmed an inch). I had my husband pick it up and our total for (6) simple dry clean items and my alteration on the jumpsuit was $86!! I double checked the ticket afterwards and she marked my two blouses as two coats. They also didn't give us the 20% discount. The time before that my husband dropped off his wedding suit to be dry cleaned. Maybe we were stupid to drop it off in the original bag it came in, (a sturdy fabric bag from a high end suit store) but when we went to pick it up, we were told they never received the bag and had no idea what we were talking about. That's not really something you could lose...if anything you would remember taking bags off of clothing and either tossed it or took it for themselves. At least admit that, don't play dumb and say that we never brought it in. This place is in a very convenient location for us, but now I'd rather walk a few more blocks to a more legitimate business. read more

I can't really argue with the name because they really are a marvel. On your way to work, right before that cable car comes, they make sure to get you out just as fast as you came in so you won't have to wait another slow cable car. They are also one of the rare cleaners in the city that actually accept cards (VISA, MC). They also take no longer than two days to get your alterations or dry cleaning done, which is amazing considering a lot of the places near by usually tell you to pick up your things on the following weekend when you drop it off on Monday. Here is where this business excels: alterations. The owner takes tremendous care with her work. I've brought her some challenging projects, most recently a silk blouse where the sleeves needed to be raised, and she always gets it just right. I brought a dress in in the morning. It had stains, I showed them to the woman behind the counter. I asked if I could pick it up that night, she said yes. When I picked it up it still had stains on it. She offered to redo it for free. I told her I can't leave it with her as I needed to travel the next morning. I asked if she could comp the cleaning or reduce the fee - which she promptly replied NO. She then told me, after my dress was 'cleaned' that the fabric (polyester - NOT silk) was very delicate and that it can NOT be cleaned quickly. Gee! Wouldn't that have been a great piece of information to advise me of when I dropped it off? Instead, I am p*ssed off and will not return. And will tell my neighbors to avoid this cleaners. read more

My very first Yelp review ever. Been going to Marvel Cleaners for @ least, maybe 6 yrs. First time ever I had the worst experience. (ALL) my Old Navy white boxers (AND) Old Navy white muscle t's came back clean. Yet, w stained speckled, dingy, soiled-looking markings. They're under wear; ain't no one seeing them 'cept me. I also never really cared for Old Navy. Therefore, why bitch, holler and complain to MC about their atrocious goof-up, right? Plus, over the years, I have of course bought new under wear- in black! Very recently, I started a new, "jacket & slacks" job. I'm so strictly a, "Levi's (over the hip, thank you!) kinda guy. Long story short- my new employer were so gracious to provide me w loaners of (A) jacket, (A) button-down shirt and (A) pair of slacks. Along w needing both the shirt and slacks dry cleaned asap, I also needed the buttons on the back pockets of the slacks sewn on properly. Dropped these two items off two Saturdays ago w MC. The woman never told me when they'd be ready and I'm well aware MC is closed on Sundays. Walked by that following Monday and decided to pop my head in and ask if my items were ready. She gave me a, "no-go" stating it would take @ least two days. Gee, wish I'd known that first-off. I drop in the next day, Tuesday, I'm hit w, "They're not ready. You dropped them off Saturday, remember?" The woman senses my disappointment then tells me, "Oh, actually the pants are ready." I jump into the pants the next morning before work... the back pocket buttons are dangling- never touched! That following Thursday morning I enter the doors to MC for the very last time. My shirt, (STILL) not done, I mention the (UNREPAIRED), back pocket buttons on my slacks... the woman only has this to say to me, "I hope you're not disappointed." I walk out. read more

This review is for their wash and fold. Since this business is located blocks from my place and I was not able to take my stuff to my regular place, I thought to give it a try based on the reviews. When I came back to get my stuff I got it back in a nice white bag, fair enough, looked good. When I opened it I was in for a surprise. I had a fair amount underwear and they separated it into 3 piles. Each pile was wrapped and tied with *MY* underwear. Should I mention that I had to throw away 3 pairs of underwear since it was stretched beyond repair (they made sure they tied it into a really tight double knot)? I cannot understand why they didn't just pile it neatly as they do in all other places. Or maybe used a rope? The rest of stuff was not washed well. White shirt had a bunch of some stuff that resembled animal hair, shirts were piled up in a sloppy way. $30 for laundry plus another $20 for destroyed underwear. Pretty expensive. read more
