This is my second time eating here, the first time was at their other location and today was at the new location on Missouri St. I'm only giving a 3 star because I had to go back to pick up my forgotten desserts (which there was an issue with but the owner offered a replacement). Fantastic BBQ place I found in West Memphis! Although, the Yelp location is wrong it's on the other side of the highway on the outer road. Had the pulled pork sandwich combo which only came to around $9 after taxes and came with 2 sides, great deal! Well...I was starving and wanted something good to eat after navigating a 10 hour drive from Texas for my overnight stay in West Memphis during my travels further North. I ordered the Catfish dinner which supposedcomes with slaw and baked beans. I asked for a substition of Green Beans for the slaw. Well...I got the Green beans but no Baked beans....they gave me Fries instead. Go figure???? I also ordered the BBQ spaghetti....all I can say is UGH!!! It was simply spaghetti swimming in an overly sweet BBQ sauce. Not to mention. The noodles were sticky and full of the pasty gluten taste. Lastly, I ordered 2 bottled waters. Well, they were out if bottled water...and I don't drink tap water, which is what was offered as a replacement. I can't drink carbonated beverages so I ended up getting a Sweet Tea which was offered and suggested by the staff person (which I really can't drink due to health reasons) as a replacement for the water. Also, they charge a $5 delivery fee which they did not tell me about. So, I ended up spending $30 for $15 worth of fees, sugar, gluten and extra grease that I did not desire. The only positives that I can name are the delivery was fast and the food was hot. This was my first time trying them and it will not be my dining choice next time I am traveling through West Memphis. read more

This place is a really quick drive from Downtown Memphis - Right across the Old Bridge at Exit 3-A. If you follow my reviews, you know it is virtually impossible for a Bar-B-Que place to get 5 stars from me. I am very picky and measure everyone else against Payne's in Memphis. Ray's is a cool little place where Ray, dressed in a starched white shirt greets you. Ray has quite a story, which I will probably go into later on a blog post. The food is incredible. I had my usual bar-b-que fare, chopped pork, which was delicious; i had a "sample" single rib, which was the meatiest and best tasting pig rib I have ever eaten. Ray was also nice enough to let me taste his incredible catfish and sausage. And, yes, he has some great sounding meat+2 plate lunches: Polish plate, chicken plate, bologna plate, chitterling plate, and veggie plate, with sides like greens, pinto beans, BBQ spaghetti, mac and cheese, and potato salad. You must check this place out. Very close to Downtown Memphis. Well worth the short drive, and worth the trip just to meet Ray. read more

I mean I don't even know where to start. I ordered a rib plate for my husband and I. When I tell you that these were the worst ribs we've ever tasted. First things first the ribs tasted so old and dry. Secondly they were drenched in bbq sauce and the sauce tasted extremely better than the meat itself. The Mac and cheese tasted like the chicken pack inside of Ramon noodles and the beans were completely undercooked. Someone said "If I could give this place 0 stars I would". This was some of the best BBQ meat I've ever had! I got the pork sandwich and it was so good, chunky, smokey, sweet, everything you want. You could tell it was cared for. The service is friendly and you get a good bbq sandwich. That said their is too much sauce on the sandwich and it is too sweet. Also, they pile on the meat so that it greatly overflows the bun. This is usually interpreted as a positive thing, though I disagree with this interpretation, as believe that if you are going to give all that meat, put it on a larger bun that can hold it. Fairly solid BBQ. It's definitely an out of the way hole in the wall, though. Had a pork and beef sandwich, both chopped, a side of mac/cheese, and some banana pudding. The pork was much better than the beef. The smoke flavor really shined in the pork, though the beef was still really good. The mac/cheese and banana pudding were excellent. I went here with my husband and another couple on our route back to Houston. Apparently, the guys used to stop by this place a couple of times during the year while working. It is not much to look at it. It appears to be a large storage building with no windows. When you walk in, you are greeted by Ray, the owner, who make you feel like you are his niece, son, cousin, or friend. He was so friendly, nice, and highly entertaining especially when he get gets on the CB, yes, I SAID CB, behind the counter. He targets truckers and I can see why. He gives you too much food at a decent price. We had two to-go containers of food and a dessert, and drinks for less than $20 . Now, the food was not that great in my opinion, but Ray's wit and character more than made up for the taste. However, don't let this dude fool you, he is doing well. Traveling on I-55 and found this gem through Yelp. A little hard to actually locate, but SO worth it! As we walked in the only door not broken and were greeted by a weird smell, we did hesitant for a couple of seconds. However, everyone was super nice and welcoming so we stayed. The staff recommended the spare ribs. Took them up on the offer- 4 HUGE ribs with sides of green beans and potato salad. Wow, wow, wow not only were the ribs big, they were also well smoked with just enough sauce. Sides were solid as well. How these guys running this place aren't 500lbs apiece I don't know. The pork plate was chopped to order, with just enough sauce to not hide the lightly smoked pork. The collard greens were NOT from a can, perfectly seasoned. The slaw was average slaw, but still good. Paid less than $10 for the plate, came with 2 slices bread. Stopped at the flying j and decided to order from this place since they deliver and just to be clear ribs swimming in bbq sauce don't make it bbq. Disappointed by the quality. I was hoping for falling of the bone but instead I had to fight the rib. The brisket looked like it was boiled for an hour then sliced to pieces with bbq sauce on top it's like chewing gum. Not real impressed. We've had worse but we've also eaten and cooked much better. The ribs were so tough you could barely get the meat off the bone. Pulled pork wasn't bad but the sauce was overly salty. Cole slaw is bland. Green beans were cooked well with good flavor. DW got greens and they had a weird smokey, chemical taste. Did not eat them. We didn't know what to expect -but we were blown away! It's a tiny, older building with a smoke shack in the back-don't let it fool you. Go ahead and go in. I only put one star because the employees were very nice, the food was nothing to brag about, I had chicken, it was extremely dry, if it wouldn't have been for the shake on seasoning it would not have had any flavor except the smoke flavor, green beans tasted like they came straight from a can, all food was heated in a microwave and put in a Togo plate, suggestions for this place are go to Texas and learn what real barbecue should taste like. This is just a hole off the interstate, look further down the road if you want good food because you won't get it here.
