Chiiiiiiild, do NOT go to this restaurant if you have anything to do afterwards. I was not prepared for the quality of food or service I received here. I found this restaurant online. I literally searched Black-owned restaurants in the area/going toward home. I was leaving commencement downtown and wanted to get something to eat. Walking in, there is a lot of open space and I needed to take the time to read their signage to see what I needed to do. They ask that you not be on your phone while in line. They have their menu posted and some chalkboards with other menu items at the start of the line. There is so much to choose from and everything looks fresh. The woman taking my order was helpful and kind. I was almost overwhelmed, but decided on the smothered porkchop with rice, candied yams, dressing, peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, and a sweet tea/lemonade to drink. I paid roughly $40 after adding the tip. I sat down to eat and enjoy my food. They were playing 90s R&B and it wasn't too loud so you couldn't hear yourself think. It was at an enjoyable volume that you could sing the words in your head and still talk to people at your table. The food tasted amazing. I was not able to finish it all and was ready for a nap after eating. Everything was flavorful. I LOVED seeing so many young people working in this establishment. Everyone I encountered was a young adult; even the young men working in the kitchen who made brief appearances at the front were young adults. They were all so professional and polite. You don't always get that, but that was my experience. I have already talked about this restaurant with my friends and family and we will make a trip back soon. read more

I visited RC's on my lunch break with a few of my colleagues, and I was actually the one who recommended that we come here. Unfortunately, the customer service experience completely changed my opinion of the restaurant. The first employee on the line serving food was extremely rude and spoke to me in a very condescending manner. Her attitude made me uncomfortable and honestly caused me not to place additional orders that I originally intended to make. My colleagues also noticed her behavior. She slammed my colleague's pork chop onto his plate so aggressively that he looked back and asked, "What did my pork chop do to her?" She then asked me my name in a rude manner and told me that I needed to get out of line and get my orders together. I was in complete uniform, so I chose not to respond the way I really wanted to, but management seriously needs to address this. If someone doesn't have the customer service skills to interact respectfully with customers, they may be better suited for a position away from the front line. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the experience either. The turkey burger was horrible it was half done and not enjoyable at all. Overall, between the poor customer service and the food quality, I'm good on RC's. I recommended this restaurant to my colleagues, so it was disappointing to have that experience. The food here was amazing! There were plenty of options to choose from and all the food was freshly prepared. I ordered three plates (ribs, whiting, and lemon pepper wings) so my family could try a little of everything. The ribs were delicious and fell off the bone!! The service was great and the team was super nice. My whiting was seasoned perfectly ! The restaurant was noise level was mild, with light music playing, and the atmosphere reminded me of a southern cookout with family. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained also! Poor poor service but good food. They claim to take phone orders but will leave you on the phone for 35-40 minutes, never to return. When you call back the phone is off the hook. I guess they sat the phone down and forgot about it. Then when you go to the restaurant and let them know. They just shrugged their shoulders and say oh we're busy. Not, oh let me take your order or how can we fix this!?! I've essentially held online for 40 minutes and then I am expected to stand in line an additional 1+ hours to get food. There are 5 to 6 people standing behind the counter doing nothing. Their process is flawed. I know there's a more efficient way to do things here. Don't go if you don't have the time to spend an hour plus waiting for food. read more

RC Kitchen serves up some very good soul food in my area! I've been looking for another spot and this might be my new go to. The prices are fair and reasonable, which is always a plus. The food was excellent overall--collard greens and yams were flavorful, the mac and cheese was a bit different but seasoned well, and the green beans were packed with flavor. The wings were a standout, perfectly crispy and delicious. They also had rutabagas, which is a rare find! They were good, just a little sweeter than I'm used to. Probably perfect for some, and we still enjoyed them, just not quite the traditional flavor I expected. The service was fine, and the space is really large with tons of seating, so it's great for groups or if you're looking for a spacious place to eat. I'd definitely go back!!! read more

This place is amazing! The food is incredible. There are pork chops, roast, beef, brisket, meatloaf, roast beef, and all sorts of chicken and ribs. The sides are abundant, and the portions are huge! This taste like very slow cooked delicious homemade food. you've got to come here. The line can get very long, but it goes very quickly. Servers are incredibly friendly and I got to meet the owner and his wife who have a great passion for their restaurant and for making people happy! I loved my roast beef meal! Stopped by RC Kitchen today -- Wednesday at noon -- right after they opened for the week (they're closed Monday and Tuesday), and I've been looking forward to this visit since Monday. I'm always looking for a new soul food place to eat, so I decided to try RC's Kitchen and I was highly disappointed. I ordered the pork chops which were the only food items that I enjoyed. The vegetables, black eyed peas, rutabaga and over-cooked, mushy cabbage were the worst tasting with very little or no seasoning at all. Didn't taste like soul food to me. Nice soul food restaurant if you don't want to cook. Some things are excellent, some not so good. Pork chops always tough,whether you get them fried or smothered. Reported this numerous times and they always have an excuse. Had them five times! Pot roast is out of this world! So are the oxtails, that are only served on Sundays! Vegetables are mostly bland. Macaroni and cheese is delicious. Prices were extremely high when they first opened. Later, they went down a little. Now, they are slowly increasing again! And disregard the menu prices on the website and Google! You actually won't know how much you're paying until you get go the register and get "sticker shocked"! I've eaten there several times and have been satisfied the majority of the time. I have had a few issues: 1. The line does not seem to be ready to serve at 11am when opening. On several occasions, I have had to wait until sometimes 11:20 or later to finally get my food. I was prepared to walk out once before and Reggie stopped me and said, let me check in the back. I decided to stay and wait. 2. I convinced my employer to allow them to cater the vegetables. We ordered ahead of time and specified the time needed. Our luncheon was at 11:30am. My coworker arrived around the opening time to pick up the food. She had to wait an additional 30 minutes and brought the vegetables back late to the luncheon. 3. I went in at 11:05am on Wednesday Dec 13th. The sign on the door says they open at 11am. Once again, the line was not completely ready to serve. My friend and I had to wait for items to be brought out. That days special was liver, neckbones, and pig feet. I wanted the liver for now and possibly the pig feet for later. My friend wanted the neckbones. We had discussed the lima bean issue and were skeptical. She and I requested a lima bean sample before purchasing and was promptly advised that they do not issue samples. I advised the lady (the lady with the two blond braids) that your beans were spoiled the last time. She relented and gave a sample. They were spoiled again. I was extremely disappointed and I decided that I didn't want either of my intended purchases. My friend got hers and I just got a mac n' cheese. I definitely want to try to support businesses in the neighborhood but incidents like this destroy my confidence. I welcome the opportunity to discuss my concerns. We went here as a break from the Cuban Diner, which is in the same shopping center and also great. This place is really good. The fried pork chop and corn bread I had were super-good. I was looking for a place to spend my money in the community on economic blackout day, and I remembered this spot. It's a mile from the crib. I was quite surprised at the long line. That was a good sign. They have an extensive menu, lots to choose from. I wanted smothered pork shops, but they were out so I got fried pork chops, mac n cheese, and baked beans. It was all good. Everything was seasoned well. I'll definitely be back. It's spacious with plenty of seating. It's not a place where I would dine in, but if you choose to, you can catch a game on one of the big screen TVs. One thing I have to disagree with in some of the other reviews is the friendliness of the staff. I didn't find them especially friendly at all. They weren't rude, but it was obvious they were there to do a job. You got no warm fuzzies, not even a smile. A smile and a kind word go a long way. The register doesn't move as fast as those working the food, so there was a back up. I had to keep up with my food to make sure they bagged the right order when I finally got to the register.
