It was a HIT I have been dying to try this place out for years and I figured I planned a lunch with a friend so we could spend the afternoon chitchatting and this was the perfect spot. So we were warmly greeted and then taken to a quiet table in the corner that had the whitest tablecloths. It looked rather chic Then we had the best server. She checked on us numerous times, didn't rush us and offered suggestions. She kept our table clear of mayhem from empty plates and glasses. Now the food was delicious. It was so good. The chicken was moist and the outside was crispy. The mashed potatoes melted in my mouth. Plus, we had a slice of 7up cake for dessert. I high recommend this place. Right in the heart of Buckhead with a beautiful view great energy, well-dressed crowd, and a strong place for a work lunch or client meeting. Service was solid, no complaints there. I'll keep it simple the food was good, don't get me wrong. But for the price, it just didn't match up. Excellent food! Loved the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, farmstead squash and apple salad. Each was unique and fresh, and the sandwich was so juicy! We swapped the chips that came with the sandwich for fries, which I think was a good decision. The Bless Your Tart cocktail was a pomegranate margarita, and we loved that too. The cornbread and biscuit that comes with each meal - divine. We went for lunch on a Friday, and it was surprising that they told us all they had was bar seating. A few bigger tables were open, and when I asked nicely, they let the pair of us sit at a 4 top. It was a restaurant full of business meetings. Very pleasant inside. I've been coming to this SCK location for years and we love it! To start parking is in a parking garage and it is about nine dollars per hour. The restaurant does not validate. If it's a holiday, I would definitely recommend making a reservation but on a weekday I usually just walk in and I'm seated almost immediately. I love the menu selections at this location from bunch to dinner. They have great options for the whole family. This is one of the few Atlanta restaurants that has a great vibe and isn't too loud or unwelcoming for those with children. My top five things on the menu are the brunch fried Gouda bites, the Nashville, hot chicken whether you get the appetizer or the sandwich, their chicken and waffle is pretty good, I love their mashed potatoes and collard greens. She did a great job selling the minimum by telling us what they are most known for as well as highlighting additional items. Although when our table ordered one of the appetizers we were told they were out of it, but that was followed up with the fact they weren't out of it but was holding the remaining servings just in case a bigger party that was already there wanted them. The food itself... Drink: old fashioned, it was okay. Their choice of glass quality seemed off. Compared to the glass they served water in it seemed weaker, thinner and more fragile. Biscuits - these were awesome! Fluffy and a wonderful taste. Pimento cheese - not something I'd order but gave it a taste and it wasn't my jam Fried chicken with potatoes and greens - the fried chicken breast is served off of the bone, with the exception of the attached drum ether. The fry was good and the chicken was moist, but considering this is a soul food joint, I expected more flavor and seasoning. The potatoes and greens were serviceable, but the chicken im told is something they are known for and presented as the star of the dish. It's fair to say that I had high hopes, was slightly disappointed, but it was good... I just expected great. Came by on a Sunday morning for brunch and were able to get a reservation for 11:45am for a party of 7. Unfortunately the table they gave us was not in the shade and it got really hot sitting in the sun. Said they couldn't put the shades down. We ended up doing take out instead and they said it would take 20-30 minutes. We ordered a kids meal and the person who took our order was going to charge for the ice cream it came with - we had to show her on the menu that it said it was part of the meal...she said she had no idea in her 2 years of working here, so I wonder how many other parents got overcharged for their kids meals or just didn't get the whole meal that was advertised. Ended up taking an hour and by then there were plenty of open tables in the shade which was disappointing. We ate outside nearby and the food was alright, not bad but not worth $26 for the portion of chicken and waffles that were given. I was also told I would get a side salad with my benedict but they forgot it. Thought about going back after eating to ask for it but my family were planning to go to the ATL history center nearby and I was pretty full - if we picked up the salad it would probably spoil in the car since it was a warm day. With a flagship location that opened in 1993 on Crescent Street in midtown, South City Kitchen has expanded over the decades and has become a much beloved Atlanta institution. Classics like fried green tomatoes, fried chicken and the burger are undoubtedly hard to beat. The location in Buckhead opened in 2016. The space at the Buckhead location is not terribly exciting and not particularly distinguishable. The patio is near a busy road and really, isn't much of a patio. Thus, ambiance wise, South City is not a place that deserves any accolades. This is especially unfortunate given that South City is a fine dining establishment and while standards for higher end southern cooking were likely lower in the 90s, these days expectations are a bit different. The service was quite quick, especially with a table of nine, so I do appreciate that. I got the fried chicken and waffles, and although the seasoning on the chicken was great. I received a gift card for my birthday and finally decided to stop by this delightful establishment. I was accompanied by my ‍Hubs‍ and my mom, so I was really in great company. Our server, Xander was absolutely superb, when I made the reservation, I made them aware of my seafood allergies. So our table was upstairs away from the kitchen and all of the fumes. Xander was extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating to our every need. He had such a great personality & was extremely handsome! And quite the professional I might add. I ordered a Salty Dog and our server didn't know what it was and said only drinks they have are the cocktails on the menu and said " I doubt the bartender knows what that even is". I said it's just vodka and grapefruit with salt on rim. He went to the bar and asked if they could make it and came back and said yes. When the drink arrived it was just a splash of grapefruit. This was the first restaurant we visited while in Atlanta. Not knowing anything about the area, the food, or the people, we decided to trust Yelp's rating, and I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint! The restaurant has an upscale vibe, and since it was my first experience in Georgia, I wasn't sure what to expect. The food was fantastic. The fried chicken was out of this world, and the biscuits were so good they almost made me cry. That Sandwich - the egg was cooked well and still slightly runny. The bacon was crispy and not too fatty. The vegetables were fresh and delicious. Good sandwich! VIBES The place is very crowded on Sunday morning for brunch. They're seating from base to tables to high chair seating. When we made a reservation it was full so we got seating outside. It was quite disappointing that they didn't have shades on the seats near the window so for lots of our meal we were in complete sun and they didn't have any alternative seating. It's more of an upscale southern spot rather than what you might expect or what is depicted on tv when you think of southern food. They do give complimentary biscuits and cornbread which is great with the butter. We asked for more of those. I walked in but heard that if you drive that there's a valet or limited parking. The venue has a nice dark cool vibe with lots of music. As someone who doesn't eat seafood (which was half their menu), I chose the first entree on the list, the fried chicken ($25) and I was not disappointed!
