We made an appointment to look at the spaces, but when we arrived, the manager did not show up and they do not have regular office hours. We attempted to complete the rental process online but made an error on the size of the space we wanted. This should not have been a big issue. We asked to cancel the reservation and re-book the rental, transferring the one-time application fee to the new space. This is where we couldn't get help. No matter who I called, I could not get anyone to transfer the 29 dollar rental fee to the new space. I was told repeatedly that I would receive a call back from someone authorized to do this. I never got a call back, even after repeated calls. We ended up giving up, forfeiting the 29 dollars and going with Extra Space Storage, which is considerably further from our home, but who had the best customer service experience and the best online rental system. It's unbelievably bad service to avoid helping a potential customer that will pay rent for months or years over a 29 dollar fee, one that we were happy to pay and simply needed to be transferred! I'd give zero stars if I could.

I just got a notice that they raised the monthly rent to $800.00!! It has doubled in price! The unit is full of black widows and their egg sacks. We notified the staff there, they were going to spray, but i don't think they ever did. It got worse! Years ago we used Mission Hills Storage on Rinaldi across from the farmers market. The rates never went up that much each year. Our unit and the facility there was kept clean, never noticed a huge bug problem there. Needless to say, we are removing our things and going to a different storage place. We do not recommend the Public Storage on Chatsworth in Granada Hills!!

BEWARE!!!! I've…read morenever seen a storage facility make it so obvious that they hate dealing with customers for extremely basic things. They lock their gates at 6PM. Most places are open until 9PM. If you work a 9-5 you will be coming before work and forget going into your unit after work because you won't be there in time to begin with. This means you can only access your unit on the weekend or if you change you work schedule. I'm not sure why this place made it where you only have access from 6AM-6PM when the hours should be something to at least 8 PM being that most people have day jobs... Need to throw out a box or recycle something? They don't give you access to a recycle bin or dumpster. Extra Space and US Storage does give you access. As your rates go up, they just tell you "we charge you rent based off current market value" (it's the same line they have been trained to say and about "operational costs" but no one can tell you what the costs include. Keep in mind you clearly aren't paying for normal gate hours, you aren't receiving access to dumpsters, and good luck ever finding an employee actually in the office because get this THEY DO NOT LIST OFFICE HOURS ON THEIR DOOR OR ON THEIR VOICEMAIL! I recently went to the office (2nd time in 1 day....). The first time was in the morning after 10 AM and no one was there (in my account it says someone is there after 9:30 AM....). On their door they list a phone number as 818-491-311, but no one answers (or returns your call....the voicemail doesn't tell you the office hours or that the business is in fact Public Storage LOL), however on my account their number is listed as 747-224-6380. The 747 number is a call center with foreign employees. You call the call center and they said someone is supposed to be there at 1PM except when I called (a few times) no response again. I finally did get a hold of someone (again no one answered the phone) by driving again to the facility. Apparently this location has no office hours. You have to make an appointment, however the employee that may be in the office when you are there does not make the appointment for you. Once again though, how do you make an appointment if no one answers the phone to start or if no one is even there? All I got from the employee who was there is that there is supposed to be someone there for a few hours a day but that sometimes it may be in the morning, but sometimes it may be in the afternoon. WHY NOT PUT UP A SIGN THAT SAYS THE SCHEDULE?!??!?! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! PS) They have rodents and roaches in the facility. PPS The responses you get on here aren't from the actual Chatsworth facility.

I've been a customer at the Deering Ave Extra Space Storage location in Canoga Park for over a year…read moreand a half, and until recently I would have given this facility a much higher rating. The site itself has generally been clean and well maintained, and the on-site manager has always been helpful whenever I've needed assistance. My issue is with a sudden and significant change to access hours that was communicated with little notice and no explanation. I received an email stating that, effective June 8, access hours were being reduced from 10:00 PM to 8:00 PM every day. One of the primary reasons I chose Extra Space in the first place was the extended access hours. The ability to access my unit until 10:00 PM was a major selling point and a competitive advantage over many other storage providers. I called the facility after receiving the email. The manager told me he wasn't aware of the change and would need to contact corporate for more information. Unfortunately, I never received a follow-up call or any explanation as to why the hours were reduced. What makes this even more frustrating is that other nearby Extra Space locations in Canoga Park, Woodland Hills, and Chatsworth still appear to offer access until 10:00 PM. That makes it difficult to understand why this particular location is being treated differently. It's also summer in the San Fernando Valley. Temperatures can easily exceed 100 degrees during the day. Many customers intentionally use their storage units in the evening when it's cooler and more practical to move items. Reducing access by two hours has a real impact on customers' ability to use the facility. I'm not upset that policies can change. I'm frustrated that a major feature that influenced my decision to rent here was removed without any meaningful explanation, and that no one has been able to provide a clear reason for the change. If Extra Space wants to maintain customer trust, they should be transparent about why access hours were reduced and explain whether this is a temporary or permanent change.

Instead, I was told the truck had already left with my remote still inside. When I asked why it hadn't been taken out as I had been told, I received no reasonable explanation. The assistant manager, Maria, was extremely unprofessional on the phone. She told me their system was down and that she couldn't check anything, so I would have to call back later. I asked if she could call me back once the system was working again, and she immediately started trying to end the call without even asking for my phone number. It felt like she had no interest in helping resolve the situation. What made the experience even more frustrating was that when I later came into the store to retrieve my remote, the employee at the front desk told me the system had never been down. Hearing that after being told otherwise over the phone was incredibly disappointing. Whether I was given inaccurate information or simply brushed off, it reflects very poor leadership, a lack of professionalism, and a complete disregard for customer service. Customer service should involve taking ownership of mistakes, communicating honestly, and treating customers with respect. Instead, I was given conflicting information, my property was left in the truck after I was told it would be removed, and I was treated as though my concern was an inconvenience. I expected much better from U-Haul and would not recommend this location based on my experience.
