I wanted to rate higher, but. First the positives: Good service. Good server. Timely order fulfillment. Very good ambiance. Very good cocktails. Really like the bread. Now for the not as great as we hoped. My wife had the walleye. 2 nice size fillets, good presentation, cooked perfect. But, very blah. The fish and the breading completely lacked seasoning. I ordered the paella. Big mistake. Again very blah. It cannot be so, but seemed like zero seasonings and flavor for a Spanish dish that should be bursting with flavor. Even the rice was bland. The mussels were grossly over cooked to the point there was nothing but tiny shriveled up pieces of meat. So small there was nothing I could even extract with a fork. Shrimp and clams, again, no flavor. We will likely try it again, but it is clear that Leo's is still the clear winner for seafood in GR. But the vibe here is so much better. read more

Title: Inexperienced server/manager + poor communication + poor customer service = AWFUL experience This was my first time here & I wish it wasn't the WORST experience I've ever had in a restaurant. My wife & I met while working at a restaurant and we pride ourselves/know how to identify good service & quality food. We scoped out the restaurant's menu a week ahead of time so we knew what to expect. We arrived with our group of 11 with reservations at 7:30pm & were immediately sat to a clean table, ready with digital menus at each seat. I was impressed but hadn't yet known that was going to be the height of the experience. We were greated by someone filling water who said our server will be right with us. Our server showed up 15 minutes later to gather our drink orders. We were prepared to order Apps but the server ignored that, seemed annoyed/overwhelmed & wanted to do one thing at a time. Think "uninterested in even being there" vibes. Drinks took 20 minutes to arive which gave us more than enough time to read everything on the menu & plan out our next drinks, even deserts. Prepared to order everything, our server only wanted our apps at the moment. We ordered the Cajun oysters, which looked nothing like the photo. Shriveled, comically smaller & served on top the most ridiculous amount of pink sea salt. The taste matched exactly how horrible they appeared. Appetizers came out relativly quickly compared to the drinks and main dish (I'll get to that in a minute). While a runner arrived with our apps, our server began taking our main dish orders. My wife ordered the sea food Alfredo with a crab cake and I ordered the parmesan crusted flownder. After the appetizers came, our first signs of concern began. 30 minutes of no interaction with our server or any of the staff. Empty appetizer plates/drink cups fill the table. An hour & 20 minutes into being seated, we received another highlight of the night. The bread was the most delicious thing I've had all week. It was freshly baked, still warm, seasoned with a side of butter. This might have been the hunger talking but it was amazing. While our server was around we utilized this time to order our 2nd round of drinks & asked for more water. After the bread was devoured at our table came the long stretch of waiting for our main dishes to arive almost another hour in & no sign of dinner! Food finally arrived almost 2 & a half hours after first being seated. The food look appealing, but lacked any true flavors. My broccoli was burned & the potatoes had a "I've been sitting under the warmer too long" film. Our friends ordered the king crab and requested it be cracked, the server forgot/the crab didn't come with a tool. After dissapearing for a few minutes, she came back with gloves on, said nothing, grabbed the crab from my friends plate & began aggressively cracking it on a server tray. Note, there were several sharp shell pieces found. One couple in our party told the server they needed to leave in 20 mins, asking for their bill & the beer they ordered 45 mins ago. The server un-sympatheticly "apologies" for the wait claiming they are busier than normal. As our server was finally delivering our 2nd round of drinks, there was no beer in sight. The husband asked about the beer and the server replied with "I didn't know if you still wanted it if youre in a hurry & need to leave in 20 minutes." I belive this is where things turned from inconvenient to very bad customer service. This was the last time we saw her. After eating most our food the manager had arrived. She made excuses for the service and attempted to hand out the bills. There were so many mistakes on each bill that the manager fumbled for 20 more mins trying to resolve. No discount offered & a 20% gratuity was enforced. We were also there for a birthday & dessert was never offered! After 3 hrs, the lack of communication, caring & remorse for our terrible experience are just a few reasons we will NEVER be back! read more

we went there to celebrate 2 birthdays. food was sub par for the price. our server was pushy and kept asking us to order. we felt rushed. the food came out but we were all halfway through our meal before the paella came out one of us had ordered. Usually that dish takes about 45 minutes to cook. I had the scallop risotto and the risotto was dry and tasted pre made, the vegetables were burnt. we were very disappointed for the price of this meal. Our server was nice, but she had no idea how to work fine dining barely asked us how we're doing, so we left unimpressed and will not be back. We had a great dinner. The service was fantastic! Sydney was very attentive to the point that we thought she was only assigned to our table though she had others too. Service was quick and the portions were generous. The fish were fresh and the food was delicious, despite that the swordfish was a bit salty. first, the the space is amazing for Grand Rapids probably one of the nicest in the city. The food was mediocre at best. Shrimp cocktail were so overcooked you could not eat them. We had two Caesar salad one beet salad and both were only OK. though the salad was presented beautifully, it lacked flavor for what could and should be. lobster Tail and fries were not worth it - maybe 3 ounce (tiny) tails, scallops were cooked perfectly though too salty and served with semi-homemade risotto - the added basil or whatever olive oil drizzled all over the plate was not needed and if left off, would probably have been better. shrimp scampi pasta was okay - though same subpar shrimp, again, over cooked, though pasta was okay. the four of us also had a couple cocktails and wine throughout our evening. appreciated the manager-stopping by, thanking us, asking how things were - but the four of us all agreed - not coming back for food, but would consider stopping back for drinks. She took this along with one of our table guest's "slow speech" (from a MEDICAL condition) as proof of absolute intoxication and refused to serve the entire table any drinks for the entire evening. Let me be clear, no one was drunk nor did anyone act in a way to reflect that state. This was 6 pm after several hours of no alcohol not that its any of her damn business. Manager completely took her side and incredibly rude and cited company policy & extensive training as the justifation for this behavior even after we explained her condition... this changed nothing. I've never been so embarrassed and insulted in my entire life. She proceeds to give us the worst service after this complete discrimination while serving the next table 4 rounds of martinis..hmm what was that about your "company policy"???? What a disappointment. Service was pretty awful, took forever to get a server and when there forgot our drinks, so came back in addition to forgetting our bread! Manhattan tasted like an old fashioned- likely confused as I could not taste any sweet vermouth. I visited this establishment on 10/28. The vibe was cool, the food was not and the staff is worse. I told the waitress that something was wrong with the lobster app we had. It was mushy and tasted funny. She asked if she could bring a new one and I told her no. No offer of removing it or anything. That night I got sick when we got home and have been sick for over 24 hours now. I went to the doctor and they confirmed food borne illness. I called and the manager Chris said he would let me know if anyone else had this issue. No apology, nothing! He did tell me to have a good day after I have been sick because of the food!! I guess there is that. There are much better places in Grand Rapids, please go there! This is a great place for a special occasion! It was not cheap but it was worth a splurge for high quality seafood and a great environment. I felt like I was in an old, fancy bank when I walked in with the high ceilings, the pillars and the crown molding. We were seated at the captains table because we had a large group for a special occasion. It was an amazing experience to say the least. Our server Brian couldn't have been more helpful, patient, and kind. We started with calamari and oysters, the oysters were absolutely delicious! I was a little surprised that the calamari was all rings and no legs, but indeed we gobbled them down. I'm so glad I splurged on a piece of sward fish for dinner. It was thick but not dense in my mouth, it was Buttery and served on a delicious bed of couscous. Definitely get some of the banana pie for dessert! I was blown away by how good it was. We went for an early NYE dinner for our first visit, and can't wait to go back. The atmosphere was upscale but maintained a casual feel. The smoked old fashioned was well done, perfect amount of smokey taste. The clam chowder is a bit non-traditional we thought, but it was delicious and would recommend. The rolls are reminiscent of the rolls Charlie's Crab used to serve, so good. The octopus was some of the best I've had, and I order it anywhere I see in the menu in my travels. Our server was excellent and truly added to the great experience. She made several recommendations that were not on our radar and so glad she did. At her recommendation I tried the crab stuffed salmon roulade and it was amazing, it melted in your mouth. My husband had the scallop risotto and added lobster tail, and both were excellent. For dessert, the caramel apple bread pudding perfectly topped off a wonderful meal, and the banana pudding cheesecake we brought home for a late night treat was just as delicious.
