And I thought I knew Los Angeles!!! The Urban Hunt that I did with Reality Rush was truly an experience. It was well organized and totally unique. I saw so many new parts of LA and the whole time I was full of energy. (This was not the case the next day when I had to call in to work because I couldn't get out of bed. I was understandably very sore after eight hours of running around.) Even though we came in 46th place I still felt like a winner!! I would definitely do it again. read more

Have you ever watched The Amazing Race and wished you could be a contestant?!! Shooooooooooooot...I know I have. Thanks to Reality Rush, you now have that chance! I was a participant in the December 4th Urban Hunt in San Diego and was one half of Team Legal Eagles! We met up at Rockin Baja Lobster and then were escorted outside for the Costume Contest (which was awarded a $50 gift card) and the start of the race. One of the organizers passed out a white envelope with the clue sheet and when he shouted "GO!," we opened our envelope and got to solving clues. Now while I will not reveal HOW we went about solving the clues (I mean, we won 2nd place, so I cannot give up the details), I will say that it was very well organized for guys who run their operation outside of San Diego. I have lived in this town all of my life and I had to look up some things. It was SO MUCH FUN solving the clues, asking random strangers to take photos and cutting in line on a variety of things. I give this four stars because I feel like the entry fees are a little steep. I am sure it is not easy to organize this event and there are costs to be paid, but $146 for a team of two is a lot of money, especially since the only prize is $300 for the first place winners. The only way I was enticed to sign up for this event (along with the prospect of quasi-Amazing Race winning glory) was because I received an email from DealOn for half-price entry. But will I do it again next year? HECK YES! The Legal Eagles are now gunning for first place! Ka-KAAWW!! read more

Justin planned an awesome night of scavenger hunt chaos in Hollywood for my boss's birthday party. He was so kind and went with the flow when our dinner ran over beforehand. He was also flexible in letting us start the scavenger hunt late in the evening, which is why we ultimately picked him over the competition. I wish our group had been able to start the hunt a little earlier so that we could have gotten more time to do the challenges, but hopefully I'll get to participate in another Reality Rush event soon. Reality Rush puts on amazing events! I've done a few of their games (including their "Race" and "Eviction" events) and had a blast each time. It was definitely the closest thing to actually being a contestant on The Amazing Race and Big Brother that I've ever done. The Race was a great way to see parts of Los Angeles that I haven't seen in my two years of living out here. And Eviction gave me an awesome chance to meet some new people but also get to really know my friends that I played with. Both events would be great for companies or just a group of friends looking for something fun to do on a weekend. I would highly recommend checking out their next events. read more

If you love scavenger hunts, this is definitely a pretty fun way to spend a Saturday and get to explore some of downtown LA as well! It's a lot of fun seeing all the great costume ideas, hanging out and chatting with people, and then doing all the silly things they have you do on the actual hunt. It was worth it for me seeing some of the places in downtown that (I'm ashamed to say) I've never even heard of after living here for 5 years! However, I totally agree, the price is quite steep for what you get... $70 for two was the discounted price on yelp. For that price, there should definitely have been more people taking photos, especially at the different locations around the city. And in the end, I feel like they kinda rushed through validating all the clues, probably because we had such an enormous group. It's NOT a good way to learn about the metro system around here, since my group didn't use any buses... might've worked better in NYC. But in the end, it's totally worth checking out and a fun way to spend a Saturday in downtown LA! read more

Disclosure: This review is not being written based on an actual race experience, but on our experience with the organizers. Several months ago I purchased the Urban Race LA experience through Groupon. Being excited about the opportunity to have some adult fun, we solicited some friends to join us for a team of 4. Fast forward to July. We registered through the Reality Race website and were ready with confirmation in hand. Fast forward to race day. We drop off kids with babysitters and made the hour and half trip to downtown LA. (There's nothing like LA Traffic). Upon arriving at the designated location we realize something was wrong as no one was there. After 20 minutes of walking around , thinking maybe this was the first phase of the hunt, to locate the actual starting line, we decided to reach out to the organizers. My only critique is I could not find a phone number on the website. However, handy dandy Yelp came through with a number. We called and left a message for Justin. Within 5 minutes Justin returned our call and very apologetically explained the event was cancelled by Groupon for several reasons. Justin was very sincere in his apology and promised to do what he could to rectify the situation and ensured a refund. He quickly followed up with an email. Best of all he made a great suggestion: Check out wonderful DOWNTOWN LA. BEST DAY EVER. read more

I did this last Spring with my brother. I was super stressed and this looked like a lot of fun so I ended up buying this deal on Yelp. Definitely an interesting and fun experience. We all met at a small restaurant/bar in DTLA, I forgot the name! After everyone showed, we had a brief orientation and recieved all of our goodies for that day, including a reality rush bandana. We took group pictures and voted on best costume (barely anyone even dressed up). Funny because the people that won were dressed up as pirates. After that, we were off! My brother was familiar with the area that they had the scavenger hunt at and it was not hard at all. It was fun exploring the area though. Definitely something that you should try at least once. We walked most of the time and if we needed to, took the metro. This was a great opportunity to roam around DTLA and find new things that I've never seen or thought about. When you drive around, you usually miss a lot of cool areas that you would have never guessed were there. We ended up getting 11th place. Would I do it again? Probably. For the price? Did this during the summer with the bf. What a great date idea. We got up super early in the am to drive up to DTLA and get a good parking spot since it gets crazy here. It wasn't crazy at all. We spent a FULL day scavenging around. They give you a list, they set the prize for the first people to finish, and you have to complete some 25 out of 26 tasks. We were like, 33 out of 40-something. meh. the experience was everything. We went all over and walked/ran most of it. I must have lost a solid 5 pounds sprinting and marathon running to the finish line. my jeans fit so loose after. LOL. I want to do it again for the workout. hahaha. We went to a park, a korean shopping center/grocery store, a karaoke bar in little tokyo, and a bunch of other places that I can't even remember. We dressed up in tennis gear (we were a tennis pro and tennis ho, lol). So we looked like a pair of Bev Hill d-bags when we stopped to get a smoothie. Can't wait to do it again! read more

This is a must if you're a crazed fan of scavenger hunts!! It's a tad too steep for the price but I understand why because of all the participating stores involved. Recommend waiting for Yelp or Groupon to come out with a discount deal! All the other costumes were fantastic (I was the Charlie Chaplin, and my friend was Lady Gaga). Basically you get a list of tasks to do, whether it is singing karaoke at a Sushi bar or darting through a Korean market with a grocery list in Korean trying to find someone who wanted to help out two people dressed insane. Highly recommend bringing a printed out map of the city that you're hunting in. We only had Google maps on my phone and it was so hard to have to run and try to read a tiny screen in the blaring sun. Which also led us miles away from where we needed to be...overall we run/walked at least 5 miles. Oh and bring plenty of water!! Definitely recommend this to any, this is awesome fun!! I took part in the Reality Rush event in downtown LA (a Yelp deal). The outing was fun, and got me out to see parts of LA I hadn't visited before. Why the 3-star rating? Well, the day of our event overlapped with cyclavia, so a lot of the public transportation options were not running. My friend and I ended up walking ALL OVER LA, turning a fun event into a painful one for my toes. In the future, they should be sensitive to other events going on that may interfere with the scavenger hunt. read more

OUTLAST: When I was explaining to friends the event Reality Rush was coming to MN to put on, they said to me "You could just come up with some fun games and do this same thing at a campsite yourself for free." Those friends - are no longer my friends. Having your event brokered by a professional host is priceless. If you are a fan at ALL of any of these reality shows, a Reality Rush event will be one of the coolest experiences you will ever have without having to get lucky enough to be on the show. Even if the only survivor you can remember is Richard Hatch from the turn of the century, you'll STILL have an awesome time. We did the the event based on Survivor called OUTLAST. The challenges are well thought out, exciting, and JUST difficult enough to be frustrating yet completable. The creativity and depth of the challenges is what really impressed me. The host also throws in a bunch of other survivor mainstays like hidden immunity idols, treemail, and even getting your tiki torch snuffed at tribal council when you get voted out. (ok that hurt a little) Just one example of Reality Rush's attention to detail and their desire to get people playing a serious game - one of the rules for our game was that when you went to the pump to fill up your water bottle, you couldn't go alone, but you could only take one or two other people with you. This forced us to scheme and strategize with different combinations of people - the TRUE survivor experience. To anyone that is reading this review and decides to have Reality Rush come do an OUTLAST event, I would be happy to come play with you if you need more people. Having a few strangers makes the survivor experience even more authentic. Just have RR put you in touch with Mitch from MN and I'll be there! I promise that I'll be a great asset on challenges for my tribe until the merge. Then I lose all my abilities and am not a threat at all.... This was so much fun! Running around downtown LA trying to solve clues was quite a rush! The only thing that I thought could be slightly better would be the addition of consolation prizes. They give away prizes for best costume and first place, but I think that with the cost of entry, it should include a T-shirt at the end or something. Kind of a souvenir for being a part of it, yet not winning. Overall, I would do it again in a heartbeat! read more

AMAZING!!! After participating in my first Reality Rush game, I am now addicted!!! And everytime, the organizers always know how to challenge me mentallly and physically. OUTLAST: Did this last weekend for my brother's 30th birthday at Afton State Park in Minnesota. Justin, the host, did an unbelievable job and was a consummate professional. Everything was organized and planned out to a T, down to the lingo he used, challenges, immunity idols, tribal councils, tree mail, etc. It was just about as authentic as you can get. I wasn't a huge Survivor fan like some of the other players, but I am now. I will definitely be doing this again and enthusiastically recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, competitive weekend outdoors with friends, family, coworkers, or even acquaintances. read more

The BEST way to spend a weekend! I've played in 2 Reality Rush games now: The Race and Sabotage. If you watch reality shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race or if you're an adventure junkie, you HAVE to do this. Reality Rush does such a good job, you literally feel like you're on these TV shows. The Race was probably the most fun and intense game I've ever played. We raced in cars, on metros, and on foot over every inch of LA, constantly battling the competition so that we wouldn't be eliminated from the race. So fun! Sabotage was incredible because not only did we compete in 30 really fun challenges, but it was also a mental game! Trying to figure out who among us was the Saboteur was tough. There were so many twists and turns in this game and I was definitely surprised in the end! Get your friends together and play these games. I would do it every weekend if I could. read more

I participated in the 4/10/11 Urban Hunt in Los Angeles, and I had an amazing time. We live near LA, but are not very familiar with the downtown, and this contest was a great way to learn about places/things that we never knew existed. We printed maps of the downtown, including bus/metro maps, and that helped us find our way around once we found out where the clues told us to go. We did the whole thing on foot (mainly because we didn't want to wait for a bus that may not come for 20 minutes), and it was really good exercise. I agree with the previous reviewer in that the organizers should recommend which areas to avoid, to be safe. A plus was that CicLAvia (a bunch of people biking around LA) was going on at the same time, so a lot of streets were closed to vehicular traffic, and we got to ask a lot of people questions about our clues (and even take a photo with one of the bikers to help finish our clue). The organizers are really cool, and I will definitely be doing the next Urban Hunt that comes around these parts. read more

My college BFF and I participated in the Urban Hunt in LA. It was definitely one of the most fun experiences I have ever had! The game was well-organized and I saw parts of LA I had never seen before. We were completely exhausted at the end of the race, but had a lot of fun sharing "war stories" with our fellow racers over margaritas at the end of the day. My general experience was okay but I think the price charged ($69 for a team of 2 based on a Yelp! discount) was too high for what we got (it was worth about $40 max). I actually think that based on that 2 1/2 stars is a more appropriate rating. I am a big fan of the Amazing Race and had big expectations for the race that we did. We started off in downtown LA and had to find clues/challenges in that area plus Chinatown and Hollywood all by using public transit and walking. It was fun to explore the city and to see places that I have never been to. It was my first time taking the subway in LA despite living here for years. However, I really did not think that we got our money's worth. Once we set off on our clue hunt we were basically on our own except for a couple of places where challenges were done. I do not think that Reality Rush had any way of validating that no one was cheating eg driving instead of walking. There was a phone # to call in case you ran into problems. At the end of the race, you checked in and all your clues were validated. I know that this sounds cheesy but there was not actual finish line and no photo opportunity. It would have been nice if they had there Phil equivalent saying that you are the XXth team to arrive. The race was to run from 12pm to 5pm. We got there before the end but our friends did not make it until around 5:30pm. By that time, the Reality Rush organizers had closed shop and were eating dinner at the restaurant where the race ended. Our friends did not get a chance to even get validation that they had made it back...quite disappointing. In summary, I like the concept but thought that this was more of a money making enterprise for Reality Rush and not worth the price paid. I hope that someone else sets up a similar event that gives more value for the money and a more rewarding experience. read more

SO much fun! I highly recommend doing this. Great way to burn calories from drinking the night before and learn about downtown LA. If I could offer one suggestion on how to make this safer, I would suggest they tell you what parts of downtown of LA to avoid. It's not hard accidentally finding yourself in Skid Row waiting for a bus that NEVER COMES. That is all, other then that, GREAT TIME, and I would for sure do it again! read more

I did Reality Rush Urban hunt over the weekend. It was ok, at first I thought it would be a little overwhelming, there were 80 teams. We came in 53rd if you are wondering. But the crowd was fun and everyone really got into their costumes so that was cute. The only thing was that we literally walked all over down town L.A. so by the end of the game we were tired, they say you can take public trans but you waste so much time waiting around, might as well just hike the mile to get to the next clue. I would do this again, but this time I would do it with a group of friends. read more

I participated in this event with 3 other friends and had a BLAST! You have to solve a series of clues in order to find the next L.A. landmark, which isn't too hard since you're allowed to use your smart phone. You need a couple bucks for public transportation... and if you're anything like my group, for lunch and snacks. We didn't care too much about winning, it was more for the experience and "team building," so we stopped several times to treat ourselves. I deducted one star because there was one shop owner who REFUSED to let us take a picture wearing one of her kimonos, and then threatened to call the cops when we did it anyway... It turns out, there was a kimono shop with the exact same name on the floor above them. How was I supposed to know the difference? It was a great experience, and I would consider participating again in another city. read more

We tried a different scavenger hunt in Pasadena and it was nowhere as good as Reality Rush. Played Eviction this weekend for my friend's 30th birthday and we had the BEST time! I went in a little hesitant thinking people would get their feelings hurt since you're playing with your friends, but everyone ended up getting really into the game and had a great time without taking things personally. The competitions were very similar to the show Big Brother. Justin was very organized and the event ran smoothly. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves Big Brother/Survivor or just enjoys competing. read more
