I have tried so so hard to like this place. Mostly because it is so close to my house and I really wanted a great place we cold walk to. But, after trying it several times I just can't get behind this place and won't be going there again. The food actually tastes pretty good but my problems with this restaurant fall into three categories: 1. Menu - three issues here: (1) this place is in a kid-heavy residential neighborhood and there are no kid options on the menu. None. So I pay $13 for penne with butter and cheese; (2) there like 10 chicken dishes but no other real entrees other than pasta and pizza - how about an eggplant parm or something for us vegetarians who don't want to eat just bread; (3) pasta dishes are served with "garlic" bread - I'm already eating pasta, which is bread, how about a small salad instead (they wouldn't give that to me). 2. Service - the service is slow and a little surly. Tonight we ordered a delivery. The food took an hour, which is not too bad if it weren't the same thing every time I've tried to eat there or order from there. Moreover, they forgot to include dressing with our salad. When I called they swore it was in there "in a little cup on the side." (like i can't find salad dressing in a little bag). I finally convinced them it wasn't there and they actually asked me if I really wanted it. Um why else would I call you and I really didn't order a salad to eat it dry. I had ordered the large gorgonzola salad and there was like a tablespoon of cheese on the whole thing. 3. Price - The prices are really high for what you get. My daughter's penne with tomatoes, onions and almonds in garlic white whine sauce was $14 and the portion was so small. None of those ingredients are pricey. I bet it cost $3 in ingredients for that dish. All that and the penne was really overcooked and mushy although the sauce was tasty. Other dishes are similarly over-priced for their value. And I didn't pay attention to the prices so I can't comment about the value factor. This review is more for the service and the restaurant's overall score on the good time-o-meter. I was there last night for dinner with friends. It also happened to be a fundraiser night where they donate a large part of their proceeds to the local elementary school (kudos for that!) so the place was packed. And really fun. I ran into many friends who were there to support the school. After pizza, the kids were playing in the courtyard outside while the adults were catching up with beer and wine inside - the entire restaurant felt like my own party except that I didn't have to plan it or clean up after. Considering the confusion and the mayhem with people moving tables around and playing musical chairs all night, the staff was gracious, helpful and very quickly met everyone's needs. Very disappointed... I have been a long time customer and quite frankly, if you're not dining in, I wouldn't order the pizza. Generally, my experience has been that I would order a pizza for delivery and when we get it, the crust is quite mushy and soggy. I left work in Mountain View and headed to the OAK to watch my Warriors get annihilated by Lebron and the Heat. We figured it would be a little more hectic than usual at the Oracle, so my brother and I opted to quickly grab a pie and then head over to the arena. We always go to Straw Hat in San Leandro or Linguini's in Alameda when it comes to pizza pre-Dubs game, but my brother had recently tried Red Boy and wanted to give it another go. It's right off of 13 and 580 in the Hills, and is located in a strip mall with a Safeway, and there's a liquor store right under it. The place is super clean, and fairly nicely decorated. It smelled tremendous inside. Although it's a pizza place, you sit and get waited on. We got a large pepperoni and sausage, and it arrived it looked incredible! Their sourdough crust was crispy, yet thick and chewy in the center. Their sauce was likely homemade, it was fresh and thick. The sauce also had a little spicy kick to it. The pepperoni and sausage was also very tasty. I walked into Red Boy with zero expectations, and walked out with a full gut of absolutely awesome pizza - and a new favorite pizza spot in the East Bay. Nice addition to the neighbohood. Decided to try them on the way home and got a simple pepperoni and sausage pizza. I thought it was great. They were pretty busy already and I think they are still working the kinks out. I had called my order in while in Safeway and I got there a little early and let them know I had a called in order. She said oh it'll be another 5 minutes. So I waited patiently and finally asked about it maybe 15 minutes later. The pizza was sitting in the heater fridge (not sure what to call it but it's some sort of glass refrigerator thing that they put the food in to keep it warm). I probably should have asked about it earlier. I have a feeling it was in there the whole time. The 15 minutes I waited allowed me to sit and observe. Some of the food coming out of the kitchen look absolutley great. There were good looking salads and garlic bread and pasta dishes. Oh and I can't wait to try one of the sandwiches, cheesy gooey goodness. I almost regretted getting such a boring pizza when they have so many interesting things. YUM! YUM! YUM! Finally a pizza place in my neighborhood that actually has good pizza. Although Red Boy was busy, my fiance and I were able to get seated right away and the service was great. We split a large salad, cheesy garlic bread and the Red Boy Special pizza, which is their combination style pizza. The atmosphere was nice - with clean tables and modern and simple decor. Parking is plenty since it's located in a plaza that is a home to a Safeway, a bank, a cleaners and much more. I definitely plan to go back and maybe I will try a pasta dish....or maybe not. We had dinner this evening at Red Boy. We have enjoyed their pizza, and decided to try pastas. My bride had pesto linguine which was fair. It just lacked flavor. I had the gnocchi which were more like lumps than pillows. The marinara sauce was somewhat chunky, but I did not like the flavor. The spring green salad was good, and i liked the minestrone but she did not. The broth was thin, but the veggies in it were tasty. For some reason it took a long time for them to serve the minestrone, and another staffer came to our table apologizing about it. They seem to not be able to serve both of us at the same time. The two first courses came at different times as did the two main courses. It is awkward when one diner is left without food. I'm used to restaurants serving their guests at the same time. read more

Pros -Delivery to my neighborhood (Edwards/580) within a pretty reasonable time frame (45ish min). -Best pizza option that delivers in my area. -Decent range of pizza topping offerings. Cons -Crust. It's not that it doesn't taste like sour dough, it's more that the texture is yuck. You won't get a light crispy bubbly crust like at Lo Coco's on Piedmont Ave - it's more dense and chewy and pretty flavorless. -Sauce. Leans more toward a spiced up tomato paste consistency. -Inconsistent. Seems like like every pizza I get is inconsistent in terms of done-ness. Sometimes it's on the verge of raw even though I ask for it to well done. -Price. They ain't cheapest! And if were awesome, maybe that would be okay, but it's comparable to a frozen Freschetta, which costs $5. Overall, I order from Red Boy for the lack of a better option when I'm too lazy to venture out. I arrived a little too quick and the staff was super friendly, giving me cold water and chatting until the pie was ready.
