Tired of the precious tea room lunch experience in old town Kensington on our third day staying there, we tromped a few blocks over here, getting nervous as we entered an industrial neighborhood and wondered if it'd actually have a restaurant. First time here 9/5/20, won't be back. Food was awful. Ordered Sesame Chicken and beef with mixed vegetables. Sauces had no flavor, and the oil used for frying must have been old. The meat in the Beef mixed veg had no flavor. The chili oil i received was rancid. The best of the meal was the beef egg rolls, but it too was fried with old oil. The worst was the unpalatable fried rice that they charge for, taste of nothing but old grease and didn't even have any veg (onion, carrots, peas, yah know what most places have) Food left a greasy feel in our mouths. My dad being a true New Yorker he expects Chinatown NYC like quality when it comes to Chinese food. This little whole in the wall is one the best Chinese food I've had in years. This tiny restaurant hidden on a side street is the place to go if you're craving American Chinese food. The people who own and work there are really nice, and the food is consistent and good. Try the pineapple fried rice. It's not fancy, and it's not the best I've ever had in the world, but it was very good, big portions, good ingredients. Those who live in the area of silver spring most likely have heard of the chinese restaurant mayflower off of georgia ave. Just ordered from Red Ginger for the first time. It was fantastic!! We ordered delivery on a Saturday night, so it took a bit longer, but was well worth the slight wait. We had steamed vegetables and shrimp, the white meat non fried General Tso's chicken(!!!) and some appetizers. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. Today,i order pan fried combination noodles with wings and recall the asian lady over the phone saying crispy and i thought she was referring to the noodle being done in a pan of course of either the chicken itself.Later on,i check on recieve the food and turns out they just fried the noodles and left it burnt too while saying they separted the topping for the noodles with the juices in another containter.Never ordering from here at least while people make an order be clear rather than running people off the phone.Poor service for Carry OUT.TRICkEd by lady over the phone waiste of money read more

Been using Red Ginger for quite a while. Parking is ridiculous so I only do pick-up. Just got back with an order of Kung-Po Chicken, eggrolls, and Wonton soup. I don't know if anything has changed, the food was pretty good before, but that Kung Po Chicken was GREAT!!! The egg rolls were crispy. Just finished our take out lunches. Very disappointing. Too expensive for what you get. Very bad compared to nearby China Gourmet, that sadly stopped offering take out during this virus situation. The triple delight dish had so much less shrimps and beef. And worst of all, they charge a dollar more for fried rice! At China Gourmet you pay less and get both terrific soup and fried rice with their lunch special. And the food itself at Red Ginger is not as tasty either. I spotted this last weekend while driving about and my room mate pointed out that she'd heard good things about this place so I came there today for take out at lunch time. Placed my order and was told it would be 15-20 mins but actual wait was closer to 10 which was a pleasant surprise. The place is small and not much in terms of ambience though there are plenty of chairs & some tables to wait for your order or to eat in and a clean rest room. Its in a little industrial park of auto repair shops a bit off the main drag. I ordered the Crispy Shredded Beef which is a fav of mine that few places offer and it turned out to be the absolute best I'd ever had with really good sweet sauce and a little heat but not over-poweringly hot. I picked up some pork fried rice for my roomie as a thanks and she was very pleased with it & said the pork was not at all greasy like it is at many places. I will definitely be heading back to try many more selections from their menu, since moving to this area have been wondering if I could find a really great chinese take out spot and am happy to report that I have! read more

Sketch City We were looking for a good Chinese takeout joint in the area and stumbled upon Red Ginger. At first, it looked great- close by, cheap prices, generous portions. The first time we went there, it was OK, but off. Went there a second time, and we realized something was really wrong. The food is bland and leaves you feeling a little queasy (not the good type of queasy you expect after Chinese fast food). And the place itself is so strange- both times I went in, there was no one in there, the place was sterile and scentless (where did they cook the food??), and my take out bag looked like it was packaged hours ago. The best Chinese restaurant I've been to in this area. The food is healthier, chunks of real vegetables are the setting for well flavored proteins and not overcooked. They're not afraid of flavor, the food tastes very good, The oiliness in many meals at other places is noticeably not in their food. Big portions and very reasonable price. The staff are very pleasant, they are friendly. They appreciate your business and it shows in the friendly smile of the young lady and young man there. Passing by you probably wouldn't think to stop in there but This little restaurant is a hidden gem. Worth the visit.
