I recently returned to this darling spot for a breakfast with my visiting family. We were seated at a VERY small table that was suited for two people, yet the three of us were crammed around. When I mentioned the size, the hostess shrugged her shoulders. Not a good start. One of us ordered a small "fresh pressed" apple juice (after our meal we observed an employee walking in with three jugs of apple juice from a local grocer) for $5.25 and two cups of hot water (charged $2 each for those!!). We ordered two of the classic breakfast and one of crab cake Benedict. We inquired about the brand of chicken sausage and were please to hear it was Adelles (sp?). When our food arrived, we noticed the chicken sausage was NOT that brand, but a tiny sausage that was hardly cooked. Along with our salsa and under roasted potatoes, the entire meal was bland and boring. In top of it, it was $65 BEFORE tip for three people. This place used to be utterly fantastic for breakfast. What has gone wrong? Even the service (save the owners casual appearance with a pleasant smile) was rude and uninterested. I still have hope that this place will return to its former glory, but it's hard to see it struggle with food quality and service. read more

This place is to die for. I was only in town for one weekend and I chose here for Saturday brunch, & I'm so thankful I did! There was a reasonable wait but every seat in the house is adorable. Inside has its own, homey feel and outside is obvious a gem being in the middle of their little downtown strip. I had the smoked salmon with potato pancake and it was divine. While the food was good, you need to be prepared for sticker shock. If you looked at their menu online, the prices are SIGNIFICANTLY higher once you're there. This seemed like bait and switch to us! This is a very cute café that is on the corner of the main road. We were greeted kindly and seated quick. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. We chose the outside seating because it was nice out. I had went ahead and got the steak frites, while my gf got the breakfast croissant sandwich. Her meal was great and that was more to my liking of flavor. I ordered my steak medium rare which was decently cooked on some parts, but on about 20-25% of the other parts, it was more so rare and the tiniest bit of blue, which I didn't eat. The fries were good, but the steak was pretty average, but I am not the biggest steak guy so take that as you will. It also had this green sauce on top which I did not like at all. The ambiance was amazing, extremely chill with good music going on and it felt like the world just slowed down and was extremely peaceful. Unfortunately, I caught a bad food poisoning case the day after this, but I can't say with certainty if it was the steak that did that. Overall, its a very nice place to come to, have breakfast and/or brunch by yourself or with friends and family and enjoy the quiet and peaceful lifestyle. read more

We were looking for a spot that had good food! The kids wanted a hearty sit down meal. We were on a road trip staying one night in Pacific Grove. Hubby found this spot on Yelp and we decided to try it! We pulled up to a super cute red house! We were lucky enough to sit outdoors on their porch! Everything was wonderful! Great Food, Great Service, Great Time We had a fantastic time at the Red House Cafe. Every dish we ordered was delicious, fresh, and warm. Try the crab cakes, as they are some of the best we've had in Monterey. We went at around 5 PM on a Thursday in the summer, and by the time we left (Around 6-6:30), it was definitely getting busy. Don't be deceived by the small size, as the cafe absolutely has a dinner rush. The atmosphere is really charming--I think it's a house that's been made over. It's cute and quaint and lovely. Our server was great and recommended a lot of good food for us to try. The dishes came fast despite the dinner rush, and while the chocolate cake was a bit too sweet, it was presented beautifully. Be warned, though--and this is not the cafe's (which I want to clarify, the name says cafe, but it's a nice sit-down restaurant) fault, but on Google Maps, it lists the weekdays time as 8 am to 9 pm, but the restaurant closes from 3-5 PM. I think they do serve some small bites during this time, but it's very limited compared to its generally large menu. Either way, we will definitely be back! read more

My friends and I went to this spot when we visited Monterey and it was a cute and hospitable cafe with really good food. I was impressed with the Nutella panini and the huevos rancheros. The panini was shared and we also shared the French toast, which was also delicious! The huevos rancheros definitely surprised me with the taste. I would have wished for crispier tostadas but given all the sauce I know it's difficult to have my own preference of crispiness. Service was quick and kind. Street parking is available and considering the beautiful community and the walking distance from the beach, it was a great brunch spot for sure! They serve mimosas as well; we didn't try any but in case you're looking for a spot to get some, they had a variety of juice options! Everyone else was very satisfied with their orders in my party. It was a small cafe but the food and service were AMAZING! I got the chicken Parmesan and the sauce was so good.

We got there right at 5 when they opened for dinner and didn't have to wait for a table but it filled up fast. It's a super cute homey feel with red checkered curtains and bench seats. We had a disappointing experience due to inconsistent and unfair seating practices. Our party of five was told that everyone had to be present before we could be seated. While we were waiting, another group arrived without their full party and was seated immediately. When we asked about this, we were told that "the table they got is a little tight and only seats four." That explanation doesn't justify why they were allowed to be seated without their full group while we were required to wait. The issue wasn't the table size, it was the inconsistency. Clear and fair policies should be applied equally to all guests. Unfortunately, this left us feeling overlooked and frustrated. A busy eat spot in Pacific Grove that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's a unique in that they've converted a house into a restaurant. It's quite charming inside with checkerboard like window treatments and offers seating inside, front porch area and covered seating on street level. We added our name to the list and we're seated and ordered rather quickly. My partner and I both ordered the Country Breakfast; one with a pancake and bacon and the other with chicken sausage, potatoes and toast. We were able to share the pancake, sausage and potatoes. Crowded b fast place located on the corner of DT pacific grove. Just look for the red roofing and line. We came on Sunday morning for brunch and didn't have to wait too long tor a large party of 5. They have indoor seating, but they really cram tables together. It tends to feel too crowded and too hot very quickly when it's crowded. They have a wide selection of traditional b fast items. I got the red house egg frittata that came with a side of potatoes. It was very simple and didn't pack a huge amount of flavor but I loved the dipping salsa that came with it (it honestly needed more of that). I also tried the house chai which came in a HUGE cup. It was really frothy but more milky rather than strong on the chai. Also tried the buttermilk pancakes w fresh fruit. It was good but honestly nothing extraordinary. The food came out surprisingly quick and service was pretty attentive. Price is about average for a b fast spot maybe acouple dollars more. read more
