We have been there many times since they reopened and they are always with masks when we go inside and the waitresses and owners also wear their masks. I was completely prepared to give this diner a good rating until I discovered hair in my food and no one offered to properly compensate for it. I ordered the protein omelette. The portion was sizable. The taste of the food was good.....until the hair. My waitress was nice. She did bring me another plate. I took it to go. When we got our bill nothing was taken off or compensated to let me as the customer know they were sincerely apologetic about what happened. I was offered complimentary dessert. Have gone before, but had a vile experience. Went to the diner to have a simple salad after a funeral. On a special diet, so I have a foil sealed packet of protein chips to crumble on my salad. These packets are 5 bucks a piece, and are also my midday meal. So. I prepped my plain salad, crumbled my bag of chips on it, took one bite, then a second. Something sort of squirted in my mouth- and I spit out a limp crumpled wet small napkin, drenched with the water from the salad being washed ( I can hope) , that had lipstick ( not my shade!!!) on it. I was so repulsed, I took off for the bathroom, as it was coming back up. I hear loud voices, and I come out to the owner (?) shouting at my husband that "they do not have those type of napkins there.." and said I must have put it in there!!???? Now first of all, were I the type to try and scam a free meal, A. it would certainly be a higher price tag than a plain lettuce salad, and B. normally, I would think that when you are scamming a free meal, you take more than two bites of it, and C. you don't waste your only packet of expensive protein chips on it. So, I ended up utterly grossed out and sickened, with no food for the rest of the day since I was far from home. I am disappointed, since I have been there in the past with good experiences. To treat me like a villain after pulling something horrific like that out of my mouth that was served to me is inexcusable. They should have been more sympathetic/ apologetic rather than attacking and accusing. Just disgusting. They has better pray I don't end up sick from whatever was on/in that thing. Been here a few times in the past. We were really upset to notice their quality has gone downhill. When we tried to talk to the waitress she just brushed it off when we asked what happened if they changed the same items we always order. I reviewed this place when they first opened and almost 5 years later they are still not disappointing, the food is fresh and delicious, we had been doing store pick up all during the pandemic and were so very happy when they started their outdoor seating. We've been there 1 -2 a week and everyone is wearing masks and gloves, they are constantly cleaning and wiping all surfaces down even door handles. My boyfriend and I have come here a couple of times for breakfast, lunch, dinner. It's so close to where we live which is the only reason we come back. It's pretty standard diner food. There were a few times in the past that food had to be sent back (eggs not fully cooked, toast was buttered after asking for it dry...) but we never made a huge deal of it. Just politely told the server and problem solved. We are pretty easy going customers. After this weekend though, we will probably not come back. First, we sat down and the booth/table were wet! That's great that they cleaned, but jeez, how wet were those towels?! Coming in from a frigid cold day to sit in a cold, wet booth was not very pleasant. We opted for lunch and I ordered the "classic chicken sandwich" and a side salad. The bread to chicken ration was way off. Huge kaiser roll, tiniest piece of chicken. It looked pathetic, honestly. Lettuce was wilted and yellow, tomato was mealy and almost colorless. Since the salad was made with the same fixings, it was also wilted and sad looking. The coleslaw was also extra yucky looking. The waitress came back once after we were some eating and said "sorry, I got busy". When my boyfriend asked for a refill of Diet Coke, then she came back with a water, placed it on the table without looking at us and turned on her heels before we could even say anything. All in all, pretty terrible. Boyfriend liked his burger though. We had overlooked the other mishaps we experienced here in the past because this place is 5 mins away from us. The problem these days is that everyone is an internet reviewer and the first few days can really break a business if not executed well. It appears that's the case here as all the one star reviews speak to the first few days when there was a line out the door and he was out of parking spaces. By the way people, it's a diner. Why on earth would people line up to come to a diner. If I saw a line, I would turn around and go to a different diner a mile away and then come back another day. This is exactly what we did. Ate here today, a few weeks after they opened. The service was extremely fast, the food was good, the waiter was real nice and attentive. Had a turkey club and an open face pork roll and cheese for lunch. We both liked it a lot. A little pricey at $25 for two for lunch, but that's what diner food cost out here in Morris County. This is a new diner on the Morris County scene. Tried to visit on Father's Day, but a 40 minute wait meant trying somewhere else. Made it for breakfast the next weekend. The noise level is over the top. You can't hear yourself think here. Coffee was hot and yummy. Our waiter was very attentive and came around many times to refill. My omelette didn't do anything for me. Portions were small on tiny plates to make them look like big portions. Toast was cut in 3 pieces to use less bread. Between the small portions and a noise level that sounds more like a Saturday night bar scene than Sunday breakfast, I won't be back. read more

We walked in on Fathers Day and the hostess brought us to our table, which wasn't set or cleaned yet. They handed us our utensils to our hands one at a time. Then we ended up waiting about an hour for our food and it arrived right as we were about to leave. My dish arrived 10 minutes after everyone else's and it was just french toast... Someone's DOUBLE EGG breakfast sandwich with Taylor ham and cheese didn't have the eggs. An omelet looked like scrambled eggs and the bananas foster pancakes came out as a waffle. The kitchen was small and the staff were all just standing around in the back. We never got water refills either. The desserts weren't bad but I don't believe they were made there. I'm not a fan of the neon color changing lights and the place was so noisy because the architect and interior designer didn't put in sound-absorbing surfaces. TRAIN YOUR STAFF. For me, there is only one meal to be had-Lox and onion omelette, well done home fries and rye toast with a good cup of coffee. I've had this very same meal at dozens of diners throughout New Jersey. From the horrifically bad to mighty fine. My Dad and I stopped in after a great hike in the Rockaway area. Friendly welcome. Very good omelettes, potatoes, toast and coffee. No reason to complain. We've been to Red Hut Diner numerous times and they always deliver a hefty plate of quality food, for the right price! We've ordered burgers, mozzarella sticks, disco fries, sandwiches and more and everything is always cooked to perfection. The food always comes out really quickly, the restaurant is always clean and staff is always friendly. We've dined in and ordered to go (food is always ready for pickup in 15 minutes). Jersey has some fantastic diners but those on Route 46 between Fairfield and Rockaway are just so-so. Hit and miss based on what you order, in my opinion. When Red Hut opened we were eager to try it out hoping it would shine. we decided to go for dinner. Inside, the decor is nicely done (pretty stylish for a Jersey diner), it's squeaky clean, and the staff is friendly and helpful. We loved our waitress. She was fantastic. I wish I would have asked for her name. I ordered the sole Francese off the specials menu and my husband ordered meatloaf. My fish was served over linguini. The fish itself was done perfectly. The portion was huge - enough for two people, maybe three! Unfortunately, it wasn't served with the heavenly lemon/wine/butter sauce that I love. It was just the fish cooked Francese-style served over buttered linguini. Very bland and disappointing. Never have I had a Francese dish that didn't include the sauce. I ate a bit and left the rest. Felt guilty wasting so much food but it simply was not what you would expect a Francese dish to be. And yes, I know this is a diner, but I've had fish done Francese style before at diners, and it has been properly prepared. So, it's not just a diner thing. My husband's meatloaf looked good and the portion was monstrous, but it was mediocre. I tried a bite because he said he wasn't thrilled with it, and immediately understood why he made that statement. There was something in the seasoning that was off. I couldn't put my finger on it and neither could he, but we both agreed that it was a poorly done meatloaf. It was also a tad on the dry side. How do you mess up something as basic as meatloaf? I have no idea. In hindsight, maybe we should have gone there for breakfast or lunch. I'm giving Red Hut three instead of two stars for the atmosphere and the amazing staff. The food? I think with some tweaks it will be fine. They have a decent menu, and not one of those GIANT diner menus that's several pages long and makes you wonder how far in advance the food is prepared. They also offer a large variety of soups, which is unique. The food was good, but standard diner food. We had the cheesesteak sandwich, which was very good. We had ordered the cheesesteak melt, but the waitress must've misheard... not a big deal, though. We decided to eat that rather than send it back. The fries were also good, and they offer a selection of different kinds (sweet potato, curly, waffle, etc.). My daughter ordered spaghetti with butter, which was really, REALLY swimming in butter. Every bite she took sprayed me with butter, but at least she liked it. My son ordered mozzarella sticks and a side of broccoli. The sticks looked good, but the broccoli was very mushy. Neither child was very interested in it, although they will chow down on broccoli that is steamed and still crisp. Overall, it's pretty standard fare. Came here after a lacrosse game, needless to say everyone was starving. We were greeted quickly, and our drinks came out just as fast. Although it was lunch time on a weekend the food came out quickly. The burgers weren't anything out of the ordinary but the fries and onion rings just like ever reviewer said they have just the perfect amount of crisp and taste to them. If I could give 0 stars I would. Ordered pick up and when we went in to get it the owner walked out of the kitchen with his masked pulled down under his chin. When we complained to the guy at the register he stared at us and then chuckled as if this is a common thing. On Saturday, after coming from a funeral, I stopped for lunch at the Red Hut Diner. My friend Anne told me that she and her friend Betty had lunch there a couple of weeks ago and had only good things to say about the place. I figured I would try it and I did. My waiter was very attentive, friendly, and efficient. He was knowledgeable and answered my questions honestly. I was amazed at the number of waiters and waitresses. Things seemed to be a proverbial ... action with clockwork precision. I don't usually eat alone when I'm out but I must say I was entertained by the customers, the servers, and the owners. Oh yes, the food and drink. I had piping hot black coffee and one of the specials for the day I must say, it was delicious from the Matzo ball soup to the strawberry ice cream dessert.
