#6/2024 Well this was going to be a three star. They redeem themselves to get the four stars This is a small Red lobster it's not very big but here in the Peru Illinois area it is very very big with the locals at night it does a very slamming business most of the time at dinner time you will wait for a seat. I happen to be at the hotel right next door on this particular evening of the 23rd of Feb 2024. I walked over from the hotel and I was walked in and gave my name I said table for one like I said this is a small one they don't have a bar area or high bar seating area so the dining room's a little smaller. But nonetheless it was about a 15-20 minute wait I got a seat. I ordered myself a Michelob ultra to start with took a look at the menu I noticed a few newer things here they've got like a lobster or shrimp and grits kind of thing going on a couple new items on the menu I posted some of the stuff. Now one thing I did notice though the temperature was still winter in February although it warmed up a little bit the prior day it was still holding it about 28°f.. one thing that really surprised me here is a keep the thermostats at 68 that's not really acceptable in a dining establishment like this because it was actually kind of cool not cold. But one glaring thing I noticed was almost all the patrons had their jackets on the whole time they were eating and I simply asked the one girl I said why do they keep it that way she's like that just where they said it I said you know the temperature outside is kind of cold it's kind of cold in here I'm surprised they don't put it at least about 72 or 73 in the winter time. Basically that went in one ear and out the other lol. I didn't say nothing more about it. So I decided to get one of my favorites of the ultimate feast they now have it where you can build it your way which is pretty cool. My two choices I went with the lobster tail two of them. The other choices I went with was the shrimp scampi my favorite and I decided to not go with the Walt's fried shrimp but I took a shot at the shrimp skewer they said it's kind of buttered and fried and I said all right let's go for it. My regular two side choices I went with orzo rice and a Caesar salad and I asked for it before the meal. They brought out the classic cheddar bay biscuits and a few minutes later she brought out of Caesar salad that was good. The dinner came it looked very impressive the lobster tail was nice it could have been just a little bit warmer it wasn't super like hot but it was definitely warm the original rice was warm and the shrimp scampi was hot. But what was the shrimp skewer it was cold. I'm not really one of the fuss or complain but I was really let down about that and she came around and asked how was everything I said everything is really good except the shrimp skewer was kind of cold. Go ahead and put another order in for you to put it on the grill and cook you a fresh one I said that'd be cool appreciate it and can I also get a Diet Pepsi I had my beer. So she brought out the fresh one a few minutes later so that's where it redeemed itself to four stars and not staying at 3 that was very much appreciated. All in all it was a decent experience I would go back to that one but they definitely need to figure out why when the temperature is outside is not even above freezing you keep it at 68° inside the whole place I looked at three different thermostats and three different dining rooms LOL and every single one was set to 68. Not a fantastic Red lobster but not a lousy Red lobster we'll just leave it at that on first visit. read more

Extremely disappointed. Order the ultimate crab boil and two steaks both medium rare. Steaks were not cooked correctly. Crab boil was a mediocre. The food took forever to come out despite the place being empty. Waitress was great. Food was not worth the price. It's been years since my last visit since that was a poor experience as well. Paid my bill in full and said bye. Manager and server made no attempt to make it right . So eating here, I guess stick with the shrimp. My husband and I haven't been to Red Lobster in awhile, so we decided to visit this location. Every employee had on face masks, and really nice. The restaurant is really clean and social distancing is definitely being done here. Ms. Doris G was our waitress, and she was very friendly and attentive. I ordered a strawberry lemonade, waltz shrimp and grilled salmon with double broccoli. My husband ordered bacon wrapped scallops, shrimp scampi, fried flounder, loaded baked potato and a house salad. The delicious cheesy biscuits came out when my husband's salad was brought to him. I ate 2 and omg, so yummy. :-) We didn't eat all of our food, so we packed it and saved it for later. Stopped here after a hike at starved rock. It was a super efficient experience. We got seated pretty quickly, the waitress took our order right away and our food came before both of us had even gone to the bathroom. Cheddar bay biscuits - delicious as always. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Clam chowder - nicely salted but a little looser than I remember Bar harbor lobster bake - plenty of seafood with a flavorful sauce and slippery linguine. Greeted and seated in under five minutes. Our server took drink and app orders immediately. Enjoyed the bacon scallop appetizer. Was very filling and full of flavor. Got the stuffed flounder with lobster toppings. Service was pretty solid. For a Monday it was packed, but they delivered. read more

We went about 5:30 and the place was almost full however we were seated right away. We wanted to try the endless shrimp deal. Our server was outstanding and right on top of things. She was by our table frequently asking if we would like her to start another refill, even though we only ordered 1 refill it was such a large portion it was more than enough. The manager was also walking around making sure everyone was happy with their dining experience, our biscuit basket was empty and he brought back a refill without even being asked to. We were amazed by the way they were keeping up with the crowd. We were impressed with how clean it was inside and out and how fast tables were cleaned and turned over. read more

For a Saturday night, they weren't all to busy but the food still took over 50 minutes to prepare. The wait staff was friendly, and the hostess seated us promptly. The cheddar Bay biscuits are to die for. As far as the entrée goes, I had the Surf and Turf with a side of king crab legs. My date had shrimp scampe and fried class with fried scallops. Her food was delicious while mine left quite a bit to be desired. Overall, I would say it was a pleasurable dining experience. There is definitely room for improvement, as it seems cost cutting has replaced service and quality. I'm assuming the kitchen was understaffed, and undertrained as well. read more

Wife went out of town with the rest of the family leaving myself and son to fend for ourselves. So we went to Red Lobster. My son never picked out a lobster to eat before so it was pretty exciting. Lobster was cooked to perfection. And the waiter hung around and patiently advised him how to crack it open and eat it. Kudos to him for that! It was busy and I'm sure he didn't care whether my kid knew what he was doing or not. Very nice! I had the Salmon New Orleans. A kind of blackened salmon. It too was very good. The sauce is excellent and goes very well with the garlic mashed potatoes. The lobster was the small one. A little over a pound. And nowhere near big enough to fill up a teenage boy. We wouldn't order it again for the size and the price ($30) but it was a new experience for my son. He just had to fill up on the wonderful cheddar biscuits. Served warm and fresh! A very expensive meal for just the two of us but a great place to go for those special occasions and a well appreciated treat. If you like lobster and don't mind the price, it's really good! I was treated like garbage by a young waitress who would not allow me to step outside in between my appetizer and my main course to stretch and pass the food down she gave me such a hard time and upset me so much that I want to pay my bill and leave. If it wasn't for the excellent manager I would have left that night and never gone back. But thanks to her kindness and generosity we continued our meal and it was delicious. But I am a little concerned as the next day both my husband and I were ferociously sick and I don't know that was from under cooked food reheated food or someone was ignorant and spit on it or did something nasty. I will give props to her name is KARIANN Berglund. After my next visit I hope I have a better review to give thank you to KB. read more

Boo to serving room temperature coffee on a freezing -10 degree day. Other than that the food and service were as to be expected. The manager did come around to the tables and greet everyone, which I thought was nice because most times you don't see any management. They are usually hiding in the back away from the scary customers. Considering this restaurant is out in po dunk land, I won't be back unless my mother in law decides she needs more country decor for her house and we need to do some shopping in Peru, IL. read more

On my trip to Starved Rock, we stayed at a hotel nearby.My now ex and I came to eat here, and were treated very well by a beautiful waitress. Food was great, and service was stellar. We were quite the celebrities the night we dined here. Not only did the waitress fawn over us, but a native Chicagoan waiter stopped to say "hello" as well. Additionally, both managers on duty checked in to make sure we were happy! Woah! Good service! They were all in shock that we left Chicago to vacation in the Sheridan / Ottawa / Peru area. We explained that even big city girls need to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life (that's country slang for drive by shootings / drug trafficking / robberies and prostitution in the alleys. -I didn't want to scare them with details.) I think this was the second time I had ever eaten at a Red Lobster and I was really impressed! The food was excellent and we all had a really great experience. Next time you want to save money, don't fly to Peru, South America. Drive on down to Peru, IL and get yo' lobster on! read more

This was one of the better red lobsters that I have been to. For some reason, any one of the red lobsters out in the PNW, its either over cooked or they give a small amount of crab and/or small size of a lobster tail. My mother and I went here since it was on our way to pick up my other one at the airport... This one was delicious!!!! Fresh cheddar biscuits and salad... And most of all the ultimate feast was amazing!!!! The lobster tail was cooked to perfection and the crab legs were huge! Nothing was overdone.... Just simply amazing. I'm a fan... Clean, friendly, attentive, great atmosphere, everything you want in a dinner out. I know it's a chain, but the people make this place amazing. Staff was friendly and accommodating. When our kids meal came out with an error, they corrected it right away and threw in some sides. My kids aren't big on seafood but gobbled up their dinner and proclaimed it was the best restaurant, our youngest claiming it was her new favorite. Keep it up!! read more

We ate here last night, and I ordered the Ultimate Feast. I've ordered this many times over the years. Last night when I got my order it was painfully obvious that they changed the portions. The crab leg cluster was about the size of a child's hand, and the lobster tail wasn't much bigger than a piece of shrimp. The shrimp on the other hand was finally a little bigger like it used to be years ago. But this is certainly not a trade off anyone ordering this meal would like. And for the price, extremely disappointing. The food did taste good though. read more

Food is awful! Everything is over salted, overly creamy, fat and terrible. It's a first and the last time I dined in.

For my experience I would rate this as a one but my husband's dinner was ok so I'll give a 2 star. I ordered the shrimp linguini Alfredo..the shrimp were less than 1" long and mushy...I questioned the waitress and she said "oh, those are the shrimp we use in pasta dishes". My husbands dinner had pasta and the shrimp in his meal were excellent...I know that because he shared some of them with me since the shrimp in my meal were disgusting. So then the manager comes over and I tell her how disappointed I am and her response was "thank you for your comments ". I was not loud, did not make a scene, bottom line we were charged FULL PRICE for my meal....even though all those teeny tiny shrimp and most of the pasta was left on the plate! I must preface my review with the fact that I travel to Maine so often I am thought of as a local. So my 1.25lb. lobster dinners are $3.48 a lb and come fresh off the boat. So I am biased. Here we go: Good food as far as a red lobster goes. I have eaten at a handful of different locations about once a year. Cheddar bay biscuits are usually the best part. However the house salad had a bright, clever presentation with chopped cukes and sweet romas. The chowdah was actually not bad. This is saying something because roadside chowder houses in Boothbay harbor give you a quart of chowder with golf ball sized chunks of oysters and fish for about five bucks. Generally Maine new England clam chowder is a little on the runny side, like whole milk consistency, with a stronger flavor of fish, bay, and celery seed. This was better than canned. The salmon was overcooked, but in a way that most people would find just fine. It had the skin on and was grilled skin side down with a roux on top. Pretty darn authentic actually...felt like our waitress just grilled it over a good grill. The linguine with scallops and shrimp were pretty good with a med amount of bay scallops (really little but tasty) and cocktail shrimps (that were amazingly prepared properly, which means over cook the little buggers to get them some texture). Thumbs up and good job. The pasta was a tad past al dente, but again more common to have the "new-dalls" on the average Maine household table. The appetizer was stuffed mushrooms and they were tiny, pathetic button mushrooms. Here is where we divert. Mushrooms in Maine are huge and hunted in the woods. They have texture and are the size of a half dollar. These were scarcely as large as a nickel and one could not actually say they were stuffed as much as they were "topped" with too much cheese, and whatever else. The best part of the experience was our waitress "Sharlene" She took excellent care of us. Even wrote what was in our to-go clamshell and gave us Iced tea to go. It was easy to tip her the standard %20 and I regret not leaving her %30. But we will make up for that when we return. It felt like it was Shar's cooking at her home in Maine and we were house guests. read more
