We had a wonderful breakfast at the Red Marlin. My husband had a Lox and bagel with a huge amount of delicious salmon and a hard boiled egg (in case you're still hungry ). I had a huge avocado toast with perfectly prepared poached egg and a big side salad. The coffee was rich and tasty with a generous amount of cream and they refilled my cup three times. The wait staff was excellent, well trained and efficient and very personable. They kept us smiling. The chowder was delicious but the sourdough bread was warm and cheese was perfectly melted within the bread. The ambiance was nice and quiet because we went on an off time. We waited 30 minutes in line with four hungry kids, only to finally reach the front and be told by the host and manager to step aside and continue waiting. Meanwhile, we watched them seat the entire line of guests who had arrived after us. Some of those guests were already getting drinks and walking around the breakfast buffet while we were still standing there waiting. After another 10 minutes, the manager finally came over to seat us. At that point, we had been waiting long enough that we started reading reviews of the restaurant, including concerning reports about health-code violations. Between that and the experience we had already received, we decided it was time to leave. To top it off, there is a mandatory 19% gratuity, which made the poor service even more frustrating. Thankfully, we walked a short distance down the boardwalk to Charli's Landing, and the difference was night and day. The staff was friendly, welcoming, joked around with us, and provided great service. After the experience we had just had with four hungry kids, it was exactly what we needed. I will start by saying the service was great. Absolutely no complaints there. The cheesy bread boule was fantastic. The rest of the meal was not good at all. I had the salmon which was the whitest salmon I have ever seen and it tasted "off" but I think that was due to whatever the corn side dish that was also on the plate. My husband's ribeye was okay. This is an overpriced restaurant. You're paying for a lovely view of the bay, but you could get the same view from the railing outside. We were disappointed that we reserved a table when no one else was in the restaurant. It was happy hour, but we were not allowed to have happy hour prices since we had a seat within the restaurant. We would've had to go outside to have the happy hour cocktails we couldn't even go outside get the cocktails and then bring them to our table. Absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary! I can't believe this is happening to this beautiful restaurant. I am sad and hope this feedback gets it back on track. First off, when I tried to book this reservation online there weren't many options except after 630pm. This will make sense later and in the pictures. The decor and outdoor is well kept up. Ordered some appetizers, calamari, salad and clam chowder. The main dish swordfish. Calamari was delicious, fresh but a bit over priced. Clam Crowder OK nothing fancy about it but good. Again over priced. Swordfish was delicious but Olive flavor over powered the fish. But I like flavor so it was ok. Once again over priced. The salad was ok, again nothing fancy but $20 for lettuce, some carrots and the best part was the sauce but not worth $20 salad. Think last time I paid that much it came with protein. Anyways, after carefuly consulting with my taste buds, the pattern was clear. The reason this place is slow on a Saturday is over priced food, lack of a welcoming environment and ambiance. If I was to recommend anything new here is what I would change to bring more people in. 1- place the hostess at the end of the bridge and not inside. Having her inside hides the hidden gem and doesn't allow them to greet guest or guests see that this place exists. 2- I see you already have speakers outside but they aren't playing music. Music brings people together and the noise would allow guest to wonder over and see what's hidden over there. 3-work on the prices for the menu. Opening it up seems like I am paying for the view. When we see high prices but no one coming, there's a reason. In addition, look to perfect the main dish presentation. The sword fish at almost $50 looks like a plate in the 80's. The flavor is almost there but needs some adjustment. I got better walking near the docks at other fish places. This place should not be dead on a Frdiay night. Please make some adjustments. 3rd time here. Party of 6 on a Friday 8:30am. It's New years week. They are full. Service is slow and inattentive. Perhaps we are a big party? We sat almost an hour before the waiter checked on our ticket. Everyone else has eaten and left. If it weren't for the fact that our breakfast is included in our stay, I would've walked out. The food: I got the avocado toast. The dish can out with a tower of arugula. I pushed it out looking for my avocado. It was guacamole spread on toast and not a whole lot of it. I think most of the food was rushed because we had waited so long. I asked to speak to the manager after my meal. She did apologize. She offered to remove my dish but I told her breakfast was included in my stay. She tried to make it right. If breakfast wasn't included in my stay, I would not eat here. We had brunch at Red Marlin since we were staying at Hyatt in Mission Bay. Unfortunately for us, it was a busy weekend so the wait time to be seated was nearly an hour. Our server was so friendly and helpful, and he let us know that the food comes out really fast which accounts for the long wait for tables. He was right! After ordering, our food was served within minutes. I ordered the eggs benedict and they were so delicious! The only downfall was one of my poached eggs was overcooked and didn't have runny yolk. Besides that everything else was great! The breakfast potatoes were my favorite, cooked and seasoned perfectly. My family also ordered the avocado toast, and it was loaded with creamy avocado, tomato, poached eggs, served with heaps of arugula salad. At least both of the poached eggs on the avocado toast were cooked just right. Red Marlin is a great casual, family-friendly breakfast spot when you're in the Mission Bay area. read more

Arriving at Red Marlin this Valentine's Day was an adventure in itself. Tucked away at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay, the path to the restaurant was unexpectedly dark, requiring a flashlight just to navigate. A bit of an eerie start, but certainly an unforgettable way to begin our evening! After a 45 minute wait, even with a reservation, we were sat at a dimly lit table that set a romantic mood, although the bay was invisible at night, leaving just a backdrop of twinkling lights in the dark. The Valentine's Day menu offered a good selection for such a special occasion. We started with the Beef Tartare, which was fresh and well-accompanied by a tangy horseradish aioli and shaved grana padano, though it begged for just a pinch more salt. The Lobster Bisque was a highlight--richly creamy with a delightful tarragon oil that elevated the flavors beautifully. However, the accompanying lobster corn fritter was a letdown, soggy and mismatched with the bisque. For entrees, the Surf & Turf was a mix of hits and misses. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection, medium-rare as requested, but the jumbo shrimp were overcooked, and the potato gratin tasted all too reminiscent of boxed versions from childhood. The Seafood Ravioli offered a similar story: while the pink vodka tomato butter sauce was outstanding, the execution of the seafood components fell short, with overcooked shrimp and undercooked fennel. Desserts, fortunately, ended our meal on a high note. The Tiramisu was beautifully presented with mascarpone cream piped over espresso-laced ladyfingers. The Raspberry Vanilla Crème Brûlée was equally pleasing, with perfectly caramelized sugar creating a satisfying crack over the slightly unset custard, enhanced by fresh raspberries. Service, after being seated, was a bit slow to start but fantastic every moment after. Navigating parking and finding the restaurant can be tricky, so we recommend parking at the Hyatt Regency as opposed to following signs to Red Marlin directly, to avoid ending up in a distant, dark lot. In summary, Red Marlin offers a dining experience with potential--some dishes were spot-on, others could use refinement. The dessert were the stars of our evening, making it a place worth trying at least once for those special occasions when you want a bit of adventure with your dining. We unfortunately cannot give a recommendation for this restaurant. Maybe with some refinement, or possibly on a day with the usual menu, it would be better. Happy eating Yelpers! read more

We sat outside and while we did quickly get water and place settings from a buster we never had anyone return to take orders! We ended up having to go up to the bar and order, the bartender was alone servicing the entire joint. Again when we were ready to leave it was a struggle to pay our bill and once again had to go up to the bar to pay. We saw MANY server types just standing around so it was pretty frustrating. I came here for a Friday morning breakfast as I was staying at the hotel. It is a breakfast buffet with plenty of options. I was seated quickly after arriving and went to grab my food. I had the eggs, pancakes, potatoes and oatmeal. All the items were as I expected. They also do omelets and non scrambled eggs, but you have to order that through your server. The views are amazing and they have a huge outdoor dining area you can sit and look at the water. We went for happy hour and got red wine and then espresso martinis that were both amazing! I ate breakfast twice at the Red Marlin while staying at the Hyatt Mission Bay for a recent business trip. Both breakfasts were outstanding and the staff is so accommodating, friendly and welcoming. All of the food was fresh and delicious and the gorgeous view of the harbor with all the yachts was soothing and relaxing. They have a separate entrance for those not staying at the Hyatt. What stood out to me was their bacon. It was lean, fresh, and thick cuts. I travel a lot for work and recently stayed at a Hilton property and their bacon was awful like from a fast food restaurant. So I throughly enjoyed my meals and the excellent customer service. They offered me a fresh coffee to go and that was helpful. Therefore, next time I'm in San Diego I look forward to trying this restaurant again for lunch and dinner. I know they have a good happy hour because I saw many people enjoying themselves at the fire pits. read more
