Simply outstanding. From the chips and salsa to the sour cherry margarita. We had the tomato soup which was so good we got a bowl to go for the next day. Don't think traditional red soup. This was actually a brownish color and full of flavor. The Peruvian chicken was fantastic. So tinder it melted in our mouths and the sauce was great as well. Never a bad bite! We've eaten here for years. This summer, we love the new street taco addition to the menu. The variety of delicious tacos, the option to get just 1 or more (with or without rice & beans) is terrific. We also always get the delicious chicken tortilla soup, winter or summer. Tried a jalapeño margarita this time which was just terrific. Of course, it can be crowded during busy times, and noisy when they have live music which is to be expected. What a great place to dine. We stayed at Boyne Resort and were looking for a nice place to eat and found it. Highly recommend the Brazilian steak, the guacamole as appetizer and the grumpier tacos are great. Drink menu and dessert is really good. There aren't many options in Boyne City for dinner and Red Mesa has been a staple for years. It's a good family spot you get plenty of American sized portions so nobody will leave hungry. Call ahead to get a table but know that you often still have to wait to be seated. read more

If you are staying at Boyne Mountain, it is absolutely worth the 10 minute drive into Boyne City and Red Mesa, a superior restaurant when compared to Boyne 's offerings. The food and atmosphere are both ok. The mayan fry bread tostada, pork burrito, and grouper taco are all good choices. Their smoked pintos are a cut above the usual refried beans you see at Mexican restaurants. Salsa that is served free with chips prior to the meal is on the sweet side for me. If you are looking for the usual Mexican food, this is not the place, but they do have some interesting options. I have eaten here several times and haven't had anything I didn't like, but on the other hand there is nothing that has brought me in on a regular basis either. I miss the ceviche! there is a secret item too! not on the menu, a BLT twister with jalapeno bacon, romaine, tomatoes and Latin cheeses, the smoky tomato ranch is great! don't forget to ask about frequent diner program! I really like the atmosphere here. The food was pretty good. The chips are a problem to me. They seemed to be out of a bag and very salty. I would think they would make their chips. If they improve the chips I would give a higher rating. Chips and salsa are important to me at a Mexican restaurant as it is the first thing you get served. Red Mesa in Boyne is one of my all time favorite places to eat and a favorite of my family. Their fajitas are amazing and enough for two (get an extra boat). Their twisters for lunch are awesome too. Ate at Red Mesa Grill for the third time and probably my last. They were dead on a Saturday night so no excuse for the poor service. Our food came out much later than other tables that arrived before us. I had the enchilada combination and it was dry and tasteless. It looked like our meals were up and sat back in the kitchen for a while before she brought them out. Was not worth the half hour drive from Shanty Creek. On the bright side we walked around town and noticed Cafe Sante. I think we'll try that p,ace next time, seems to have good Yelp reviews. read more

We were really looking forward to having dinner at The Red Mesa Grill. We made a special trip over there just to have dinner. We both really enjoy Mexican food. Walking into the restaurant felt like walking into any other Mexican restaurant and there is nothing wrong with that. The problem was the food, drinks and service. The service was slower then what it should have been. It took a while for our waitress to come back to our table. At the end of our meal (after waiting for what seemed like forever) for our waitress to take our bill, we finally walked up to her (as she was just standing there doing nothing) and cashed out ourselves. The drinks were nothing special. We had their signature margaritas...it was awful. Don't waste your money on it!! The food was such a disappointment. The chips and salsa they brought out were all broken and didn't taste fresh. The appetizer and main dishes weren't any better. The food came out hot (temperature wise) but the taste left us wondering why we drove all the way over there. We only ate about half our meal as it wasn't that good. The Red Mesa Grill was a big disappointment. There are a lot of restaurants in the area with better quality of food and service. I can't recommend this restaurant. read more

We have not dined there in several months because we have been down the street at Cafe Santé. Tonight we stopped in and had two very marginal meals. The Drunken Shrimp Pasta was just not that good. The shrimp were small, chewy and a bit overcooked. The pasta had little flavor. I would not order again. My date had the enchiladas and reported that they were mediocre. The best part of the meal were the chips and salsa. Not a great experience. The service was just ok. We will stick with Santé for future trips to BC. read more

Had the Steak & Smoky Bean Burrito, and it was definitely smoky, almost overpoweringly smoky to the point of where the steak had barely any flavor or presence, so that's my only knock on it. Our large group of 10+ was very well taken care of by the staff and most all left happy. There are not very many quality food options in Boyne City so you would think that this place would be fantastic, but instead it seemed complacent with being just a hair better than average. read more

I got the mushroom Mayan fry bread and my husband had the chicken tequila-lime fajitas. I had the fish tacos. Instead of your normal layering in of chopped/cut fish, their approach was one large rectangular cut of fish that seemed to be pan seared...it was kay...nothing to write home about. There was not much seasoning or flavor to the fish/taco. Also the guac was kind of blandwith minimal texture...I think it was home made but it was really hard to tell. Margaritas on the rocks with salt were a little underwhelming...too heavy on the ice with minimal tequila and very little salt. Service was just okay too, we went this past Sunday at 830pm and you could tell our waitress was exhausted and did not really want to be there...but she did an adequate job/did not offend..she was just slow and a little grumpy. I'd probably skip this place but if you want standard Mexican fare at slightly above average prices and you don't have a ton of options, then Red Mesa Grill is servicable. read more
