To eat, I normally get the ahi tartare because it's fresh, light, has big pieces of tuna, avocado, and a tortilla chip crumble. For a bit of indulgence, I usually order the empanada poppers which are masa empanadas filled with a spicy cream cheese served with a creamy salsa on the side. In my experience, it's always a fun time at Red O happy hour. I've been several times and on my most recent visit I arrived on a Saturday with a party of five. We had the bar area to ourselves. We spent two hours enjoying the food, the drinks, and the company. The staff were attentive and friendly. The setting is elegant but also very relaxed. I like the quesadillas. It's a simple dish with some complexity that is plated beautifully. The tacos, burritos and enchiladas are all a good choice. Dishes are made with fresh ingredients that offer a range of spice flavors. It's worth trying something you know well and something you may have not tried before. You will likely be glad you did. The prices vary. We often do brunch or happy hour which are Waller friendly. The noise level is good here. You can maintain a conversation without having to yell. I have dined here a few times when I want to spend a fair amount on a nice meal. The prices are definitely on the high side, but it is a nice time regardless. Last night, I ordered the chicken fajitas with no rice and double beans. The Yelp check-in deal brought out a classic guacamole, which the fajitas were lacking. The margarita was very good with simple syrup in lieu or agave nectar. And the chips were fresh and crunchy. I am a fan of RED O and will likely return. Parking is either valet or in the nearby structure, where RED O will validate your parking slip. If this restaurant was slightly more affordable, I would give them five stars. I want these to be an option at ever regular taco shop I go to! But it's sad to say out of all the items we had (filet mignon,lamb chops with mole,queso fundido) the thing that I loved most was the duck taquitos... actually the Yuka potatoes and sauce that my wife's steak sat on top of was outstanding... if I could have put those potatoes and sauce all over my duck tacos that would have been the greatest dish on the menu.. The only thing that had made a mark and I wanted to advise the server that our fajitas were a bit spicy and there was no indication in the menu that it was spicy. They were delicious, but my family doesn't do well all the time with spicy, so I was hoping she could just let the manager know so they could add that to the menu. Our server was amazing and very helpful, especially since I was being picky and needed some substitutions for my order.I had the Peachy Keen, and my husband had the Tamarindo Loco. The drinks came out fast, and we ordered our food shortly after. My husband got the fajitas, and I got the tacos dorados. Although I didn't really want the tacos dorados, they were still great, with a good amount of rice and beans. This is my first time experiencing Red O in SD. I've been to the one in LA, and it was an awesome experience, so I was excited to try the SD branch. We came in 10 minutes prior to Happy Hour closing out, and we were able to place a few drinks orders in to bring over to our table. Cocktail: Blackberrys Bramble. LOVE this drink! It was refreshing and sweet without it being too alcohol forward. With drink in hand, we were led in the main dining area to our table. I love the dark paneling and the tree with lanterns dangling from its limbs. The dining area is very spacious, with multiple seating options both inside and out. As we were seated, shortly thereafter, a big bowl of chips and salsa appeared before us. Our waitress, Maria, presented is with menus, including the SD Restaurant Week Menu. Apps: Crispy Empanada Poppers. Omg, this was crispy on the outside and cheesy with the delectable cheese pull. It had a kick of spice with the cream cheese. Highly recommend! Our first time at Red O Taste of Mexico. We came in wanting to try something new and were excited to check this place out. The atmosphere is beautiful and the staff were very friendly and attentive, which we appreciated. We started with the cucumber margaritas--refreshing, but we couldn't really taste the tequila, which made them feel a bit watered down. For our main dish, we ordered the beef and shrimp fajitas. Unfortunately, they were a bit of a letdown. The beef wasn't very tender, and the dish only came with two shrimp. The overall flavor was lacking--no bold seasoning, and everything, including the onions and bell peppers, seemed to have just been placed on a hot skillet without being properly sautéed or seasoned. Even basic salt was missing, and there were no salt or pepper shakers on the table. While the ambiance and service were great, the food just didn't meet our expectations. My group of friends from MeetUp's Fun Diego Ladies wanted to pick a restaurant that would WOW me to celebrate my birthday. Mission accomplished. I was very impressed with their selection. Their menu was very diverse and there were so many tempting items to choose from. For our visit, we were seated in a private section of the restaurant that had a long table for the 14 of us. It was almost a private room. We took up most of the space and there a few tables for 2 along the wall. Complimentary fresh chips and salsa were delivered to our table and we munched on them while we explored the vast menu. I ordered the ahi tuna tartare and had a taste of the pork belly sopas and street corn tacos. Everything was delicious! We had our own cake to celebrate my birthday, and the restaurant provided the 2 sparkly fire torches to add to the festivity. I definitely recommend coming here for birthday celebrations, or any special occasions for that matter! Our waiter took excellent care of us and made sure we always had plenty of chips and salsa, and also full water glasses. We had an incredible time and everyone enjoyed their food. Because this is an upscale restaurant, the waiter will ask if you prefer sparking or non-sparkling water. This comes in a bottle at a premium price, so if you want to save some money, you have to specifically ask for tap water, which is nicely filtered. Once you order the bottled water, they will keep bringing them out, so this is something to watch out for. We ended up with 8 bottles and they were not cheap! Just a note about the parking...There is a parking structure where you get a ticket upon entry. Don't forget to take the ticket with you, as the restaurant provides validation for up to 3 hours of free parking. read more

Beautiful restaurant! There's valet parking or there's a garage not too far from the restaurant and we were able to get our ticket validated. They had these adorable little hangers for your purse or small bags at the table. They also start to off with chips and salsa and great with the refill one toy start to get low. While we didn't do any tequila shots or flights, they had an awesome tequila cart that goes to your table. I ordered the Spicy Mango Mojito which was delicious. It wasn't too spicy and you got more of the spicy kick taste towards the end. We started with the Lime Marinated Ceviche-Negro, Crispy Carnita Empanadas, and the Slow Braised Duck Taquitos. All were delicious. The Empanadas were probably my favorite but I loved all of them. The ceviche has a little kick and the Duck Taquito sauce was quite spicy but they were still really good. For dinner, I ordered the Grilled Lamb in Mole Negro and my fiance ordered the Blackened Keto Salmon Risotto. Both were cooked so beautifully and full of flavor. We finished off the night with the Carajillo Cheesecake and Churros. The desserts were to die for! The churros and The dipping chocolate sauce was AMAZING and they also have a presentation for the cheesecake and they light out on fire and sprinkle Cinnamon on top. 1/30/25 Today, we celebrated my son at RED O Restaurant in La Jolla, and unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the menu. I ordered the Wild Alaskan Salmon $42 and asked the waiter if it came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. He told me no, that it came with cauliflower--but despite that, I only requested they switched out the spicy cauliflower However, nowhere on the menu did it indicate that it was spicy, which was a major issue for me. I cannot eat spicy food due to acid reflux, as it can trigger severe symptoms that may send me to the emergency room. Because of this, I was extremely disappointed that I couldn't eat my dinner. The manager, a very nice lady, tried to accommodate me by having another salmon dish prepared, but unfortunately, the second plate was bland, flavorless, and unappetizing--even the asparagus lacked seasoning. As an apology, they comped three different types of cakes, which was a nice gesture, but I would have been much happier with a proper meal I could actually eat. The Arnold Palmer also had no sweeter. To be a nice ambiance and the food has no flavor it's unacceptable. I appreciate good service, but I won't be returning. This was my first and last visit to RED O. I'm very disappointed especially since I was looking forward to the experience with my son to celebrate his birthday. The ambience was lovely, but the food experience left much to be desired. Also, there is a sign outside which directs you with an arrow for self parking (instead of valet) and we could never find the lot for Red O. We were able to park on La Jolla Village drive.
