Originally we were going to go to The Melting Pot because we had a gift card, and we were so disappointed when the wait was so long (an hour and 40 mins? we decided not to wait--no brainer!). I ended up going on Yelp and saw that I had bookmarked Red O months before, so someday we could try it. Now we had a great reason to do so! I called ahead to see if there was a long wait and the hostess on the phone was kind to go look for us and see, unfortunately they couldn't get us into the main dining area but she said the bar was open seating and there was seating available when I was calling. So we headed over. When we got there, we saw that due to it being in a commercial area, the main parking was valet, and it was a bit rainy so we decided to valet and realized this may be a bit more upscale than we were anticipating. We ended up going inside and were really taken aback by how beautiful it was. They put a lot of effort and money into making it cozy, yet very stylish and beautiful. We sat at a high top table surrounding the bar. They also had a more casual lounge-y area in the front with fire pits--still inside--which we will try another time, cause they looked pretty fabulous! There also was a guitar player playing live which was a nice surprise bonus. We were greeted by our server, Zack, who we later found out was also bartending, and he was very helpful in recommending some good choices. We were going to start with the goat cheese tamales, and he recommended the carnitas empanadas, which we somehow overlooked, because hubby and I love carnitas, so we ordered both. We were surprised when a chef came to our table to deliver the apps. They were both good, but Zack was spot on in his recommendation, as the carnitas had a lot of flavor. For dinner, both hubby and I ordered the skirt steak. I am a huge fan of skirt steak, so this was another great surprise that a restaurant would have it on the menu. We were both very satisfied with our choices. Not one, but two managers, came by to see how we were doing. We got to talking to one of the managers, whom we told how much we loved the experience we were having at the restaurant. We then decided to try some dessert. Normally, one or two options stand out to me (if I am lucky), but their menu had about 5-6 options! The only downside? I wasn't going to be able to try them all in one trip...guess we will have to come back (oh darn, lol). But we settled on the two that sounded the best to us: the passion fruit butter cake and the tres leches cake. Both were delicious, but man, that tres leches was amazing! I love me a good tres leches cake, so it was awesome to see this on a menu. I haven't seen it on many Mexican restaurant menus so it was a nice surprise to see it here. I'm not sure why I am reviewing Red O. I am not part of its target demographic (I'm older). It has 1500 reviews, so mine will get lost in the shuffle. I guess I just feel like saying something, since I'm the one who paid the check for our visit. We went there for an important family birthday dinner. Our group included people from age 3 to age 73. We had a good time, but I don't think the food itself contributed much to that good time. It was expensive, but I think that's why some people go there. The service was perfect. My food was bland and boring (I didn't even finish my soup), but some others in our group said their food was great. The place is beautiful. Like all modern restaurants, it was noisy (people under 40 prefer the word "festive"). Its drinks menu encourages customers to buy Don Julio 1942 tequila, which is $200/bottle in liquor stores and which I'm not convinced most people can distinguish from an ordinary añejo. A bartender pointed out that they carry more expensive tequilas, but I forgot to ask him if they actually sold any of those. My daughter urged me not to write a review. "Dad, just let it be." Wanted to get a taste of Mexico so dined with Red O! Was looking for restaurant that opened late and found Red O, across the street from Westfield UTC. It's an upscale and fancy Mexican restaurant. We came around 9 pm for dinner and did not need a reservation. We got an espresso martini and the Sunday dinner for two ($49), which comes with braised pork, red onions, trio of salsa, tortilla, rice, and beans. I like being able to make my own tacos. The food was good but extremely overpriced. It's been on my list for a long time and I've heard really good things! Parking was convenient and validated. They take online reservations which were plentiful, though it seemed like we could have walked in and it would have been fine. The tortilla chips were just average and the salsa was very watery with no flavor. The empanadas were the best part of the meal with perfect texture and flavor. We got tacos and enchiladas, neither were good enough to justify the price. I got a sangria and it was pretty watered down without much fruit. For desert we splurged and got tres leches and the cheesecake. The server gave a halfhearted attempt to make the cheesecake look fancy with flames but it was painful to watch. It was a bit too loud and the place wasn't even full, we could barely hear each other. If you want to get expensive Mexican, go to Puesto or similar. It wasn't bad though just over hyped. read more

Came for Easter and for the holiday they were having a buffet for $59 . I'm not positive how often they have buffets but it did not appear they really knew how to handle one. 1. Plates were out at the start and after I asked to bring more plates, I had to go through the stack for clean ones. Several had food still on them. 2. Servings weren't refilled enough. First pass for bacon was a few pieces sitting in bacon grease, see pic. Empty salmon. Some were missing serving spoons. 3. Went for the omlette station, hoping for some over easy eggs but they had no real eggs, just the liquid stuff. Asked for a bacon ham cheese omlette and it was just a big mix. It took going through the line and a couple times to get to try everything. When we finally got to try everything the food was decent. The carnitas and chilaquiles were pretty good. We came in here for lunch before shopping at UTC. It was pretty quiet and the hostess was a tad confused on letting us sit on the bar patio so we sat at the bar. Their tequila selection isn't the greatest (a lot of celebrity crappy tequilas) but they did have a couple of good ones that the Bartender shared with us. The bartender was absolutely amazing. He handmade our drinks which were the Cucumber refresher with Tequila Ocho, the espresso 1/2 tequila and 1/2 mezcal martini and a mango mojito with mezcal. All 3 drinks were perfection. So we'll balanced. For lunch we got the chopped salad with shrimp and the braised duck taquitos. Wow. The taquitoes were full of meat with the most delicious spicy sauce. It's a beautiful restaurant with a good ambiance but unfortunately I won't be going back. The chips and salsa were delicious. I couldn't stop eating them. The house margarita was perfect. The tuna tar tar was delicious but all the goodness ends there. The waiter although efficient was so rushed and seemed stressed it made me feel rushed myself. The shrimp enchiladas were bland. The carnitas taco was dry. The lobster tail was salty. We had our water glasses refilled just once and when they wiped down our table before ordering a dessert, they only wiped down half of the table even though the entire table needed to be wiped. Has such a fancy outter appreance and the way to the entrance is gorgeous! It's right next to a hotel and they have a little ping with a bridge that looks so magical with all the lights at night. My friends and I just ordered their dessert platter. We chose flan, chocolate cake, and the ice cream sorbets. The flan was pretty good really like the smooth consistency! The chocolate cake was also super moist and decadent l. The sorbets were nice and refreshing! Really liked the food platter display and the touch of berries really made it pop with the colors. It was pretty expensive for these 3 desserts but it fits with the theme. We also got water but didn't know that it wasn't free. So each bottle of water that you get for the table is about $10 which blows my mind. The waiter was super engaging, friendly and funny! He really made the whole experience worth it for us! We just came for the Happy Hour - which gave us a chance to experience the restaurant at a much lower cost, and decide if we want to come back. I think the answer is an emphatic YES! We ordered a bunch of things off the happy hour menu and were only disappointed with one (the CGC Tamale). Everything else was damn delicious but the real stunners were the cocktails. I had a HH Marg and the HH Blackberry Bramble. Honestly both cocktails were some of the best I have EVER had in SoCal (and I've had a metric ton trust me). I hate when restaurants give you a sour margarita, all ice and no buzz. Not Red O. Their margs are legit, as good as I've had anywhere even Vegas. We sat in the massive front lounge area, which also has an "outside" patio type area with a lot more light. We sat on the "inside" area, which had both high-top tables and booths. Plenty of comfy seating. The ambiance, mood and styling of the place is very classy, dark and I bet this place rocks on Fri/Sat nights. Queso/Chorizo dip ($10) - so good! Eat it fast before it gets cold. Tuna Tartar ($13) - so pretty, and very tasty. Solid dish to share. Wings ($11) - unique flavor and one of our favs so far. So good! Steak Quesadilla ($11) - anyone would love this dish, including kids. Corn & Goat Cheese Tamale ($9) - umm, no. Too much masa. A waste of $9 TBH. It's a bizarre dish when everything else is so good (!?) We stuffed our fat faces to the tune of a whopping $103.44 before tip. RedO made my birthday dinner so special! We started it off with the coco Rita which was SO fun since it came in a coconut! And it tasted amazing - think margarita with a splash of coconut water. We also got the empanadas for an app which were SO tasty and the perfect amount of food for 2 people. I'm hind sight, I do wish we wound have shared an entree after eating these first. For dinner we both go different taco plates. The beans and rice were out of this world, but I must say that the tacos were underwhelming. Nothing too special which was surprising since everything else was exceptional. I would recommend trying the fajitas or enchiladas. For dessert, our server brought us so tres leches and some pyrotechnics! Again, AMAZING. But we were so full we couldn't finish it. The venue is astonishingly pretty. There was a ton of natural light flooding the dining area when we walked in. There are plants around, even a tree in the middle. There were booths or table seating. The chairs had their "O" marking on the back. The attention to detail is on point. We went for restaurant week lunch, which is a 2 course meal, but we added the tres leches cake for $5. We got the taquitos de pollo for the appetizers. They were nicely presented with a red crispy shell. They came with lime and a green sauce, which adds a nice level of spice. For entrees, we tried the short ribs enchiladas, which came with rice and refried beans, and the carnitas wet burrito. When the wet burrito came, we were shocked by the size of it. It was massive and came with delicious sauce. My friend really liked it and said it's one of the best wet burritos that she had. My short rib enchiladas were also pretty tasty. The meat was flavorful and soft, but the sauce did taste a bit bitter. The rice was also super flavorful. We left some room for dessert and thoroughly enjoyed the tres leches cake. The cake was soft and moist with the milks. We had a very nice experience dining there, which was elevated with the great service. The waiter was attentive and made sure we were enjoying everything.
