Crab Rangoon & Wonton Soup were delicious, but the Pad Thai didn't taste like Pad Thai. They forgot to provide me with utensils - which I needed, given I was ordering delivery from a hotel, and they failed to confirm the order via Yelp/Grubhub, requiring me to both call Grubhub and the restaurant multiple times. None of this experience was as delicious or as seamless as I'd hoped, or as I've experienced in other cities using Yelp/Grubhub for delivery to hotels. read more

Based on the many solid reviews I checked out lunch today. They offer a lunch menu where most chicken dishes with rice and soup or egg roll cost $7.25. They do not offer the ability to upgrade from dark meat to white meat. The interior is more of a takeout joint not a sit down restaurant. There is no won ton soup on the lunch menu. I have not found many places for Chinese food in Raleigh and unfortunately found this to be simply average. read more

Soooooo.... my mom was skeptical because of the location. But I told her don't judge a place by it's location. You'll often find hidden gems in unlikely places. We both LOVED my Singapore Noodles. It was jumpin. My mother's shrimp and green beans were awesome sauce! She thought they were spicy but my tolerance level for spice is on a 10 while her's is at a 5 maybe so there was some spice but not a lot. I'm definitely going back for some food when I'm in the area again. This may have to be my go to spot for cheap Chines/Thai food. My mom like the place so much she got a menu. That means something folks. My mom won't get something to store at her clean house unless she's going to use it. My tea was aight. I was good with water. The dumplings which were supposed to be fried were moreso steamed with a bit for woogly frieness on one side. Wasn't worth it, but the flavor was still good. Their dipping sauce needed some salt to it. The main lady who took our order and brought our food was really pleasant and overall helpful. There was another lady who came to our table every now and then and she looked judgemental. If you go there and she's there, you'll know who I'm talking about. She even stared at me while I was eating for a good 5 minutes. Lol... No. I'm serious. I know it was me cause there was no one else behind me. My eyes kept darting from her to my food to my mom. While stalling for time until my 1pm hair appointment, I decide to browse the area. Red Pepper Asian popped up in my Yelp. Observation of the location had me weary of dining for lunch. Not wanting to travel to far from my hair salon, I went in for lunch. The dining room was small and decorated with Asian decore. There was roughly 10 tables for seating. I decided to dine in. I ordered the hot and sour soup for starters, which was very tasty. My meal consist of the Thai Basil Chicken with white rice. Everything was superb, along with the service. My favorite things about Thai restaurants: affordable, fast service, and tasty. This place checked all those boxes. My husband and I stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday night and it wasn't busy at all. We ordered an appetizer and two entree's. We were in & out of the place in 45 minutes because everything was so efficient. We even took a good bit looking over our menus before ordering. Remember 2 years ago when there was this amazing place in Raleigh called Fortune Palace? Well the owners of that restaurant has now opened up a new restaurant and this is it! Because we are friends with the owners, we know that they opened up a new restaurant because everything is working and it's a lot smaller. This place is in the middle of nowhere and that's what makes the place so glorious. It's in the the middle of some run down strip mall that has maybe 4 different stores throughout the entire strip mall. Let's call it a hidden gem. The food here is just spectacular. Although it isn't "Chinese", the calamari is definitely their most popular, and their best appetizer. The table next to me ordered 3 orders of it! That just proves how much people like it. With a condensed menu, there are various noodle, rice, vegetable, chicken and seafood options. And that's only a little bit of the menu. They also have a bunch of different Malaysian curries, which I think are very tasty. We ordered beef wide rice noodles and it was delicious. We also ordered a shrimp and green bean dish that had a very unique black pepper sauce that was absolutely outstanding. Just as a precaution, some of the food can be pretty spicy, so if that is something you don't enjoy, then you might want to ask your server. Speaking of service everyone there is so friendly. They can start up a conversation with anyone! It is also quick and attentive. Even if this place is not really in your area, I would highly recommend going out of your way and give this place a shot! read more

Red Pepper Asian is a small hole in the wall off of New Bern Avenue. Very tasty take out that seems hard to come by nowadays. Everyone in the family liked their dish. Tried a bunch of things but my favorites were the Lo Mein, pad Thai and general Chens chicken. Their Thai Iced tea was really good and made just how we like it. Even though we intended to carry out we wanted to eat it hot so we dined in. Only about 6 tables in there but at 8pm there was a table available and the service was great. The ingredients used are a large step up from take-out Chinese and the flavors weren't bad - just a bit bland for what I'm used to Asian food being. The restaurant itself felt clean and organized as well. My favorite today was the pan fried dumplings (appetizer), and of all things, I noticed our free fried chips that go with soups were especially tasty - much like they fried it themselves, unlike the store-bought kind many Chinese restaurants provide. I appreciated the fact that no authentic options were on the menu, since sometimes it's far more disappointing to order those, only to find out the restaurant was unprepared to make it right. This was our first visit to this restaurant and we were totally amazed by how delicious and authentic the food was. They were able to make my brother's food order all vegetarian, even the curry noodle soup, which was excellent! My brother loves the green curry and he loves it extra spicy. They have both Chinese and Thailand food. Best of both worlds. Highly recommend the stir fried rice noodles (Chow Fun) and fried rice. Simple dishes but so hard to get REALLY good ones like the ones at Red Pepper. Too bad we don't live close enough to come more. The lunch special combo is a great deal! An entree, rice/noodles, and an egg roll for $6.25. Make sure to try their sesame chicken! My mom love general Chen's chicken. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. Soft lighting. Good decor. Overall we were happy with our food. It was about as good as any other Chinese takeout places we've had and quick. My chief complaint is that it's a little pricey. The fried rice costs $1 more than white, but it doesn't even have the typical additions of fried rice (egg, veggies), it's just white rice cooked in soy sauce. I'm not use to paying more for fried rice, nor have I ever seen fried rice so lacking. I do think the prices would keep me from visiting again. It's more on par price-wise with a sit down style restaurant than takeout, but if that doesn't bother you then give them a try because you'll enjoy your food! read more

Its worth mentioning that their online ordering system is flawless though, it worked really well. Plenty of parking since its a strip mall and the prices were nothing crazy. We just got back from Red Pepper and we had a great meal. My husband enjoyed his Kung Pao Beef but says he wanted it to be a bit spicier. Our friend had General Chen's Chicken and he says it was quite good. I had Pan Fried Noodles - which were served on a very generous plate. I also tried the spring rolls and they tasted fresh and yummy but were just a touch on the oily side. The service was fast and friendly and I suppose the biggest testament to the quality of the food was that all of us (even my 5-year-old son) polished off our entire plate of food. There were no leftovers at all. The prices were also reasonable, so no complaints there. For me, the best part is that Red Pepper Asian is less than five minutes from my house.
