Red Rooster......a thin slice of old fashioned Americana tucked away on Route 22. The mini-golf that accompanies this establishment looks the same as it did when I was much younger and that adds to the charm. It's not overly flamboyant and it doesn't need to be. It suits it's purpose just fine. The ice cream/fast food parlor is also rather quaint. Way too small to eat inside but it has a certain charm to it ( not the price though ) that makes it hard to dislike. For a nice time out with family or friends, I think you'll be pleased and you'll be even more pleased if you bring extra money. read more

Had seen this place in man vs food in the travel channel and since i was around the area decided to try it. This place is tiny and i wouldn't recommend to eat their its good for take out . I ordered the chicken and my bf ordered the burger and a chocolate malt shake. the burger was good and the shake was OK . But my chicken was AMAZING it was crunchy and juicy i would deff recommend it. this place is pretty good and as a bonus we saw David Letterman ordering also with his family. Red Rooster is lit. It's a chill place where everyone can go and enjoy some food. There's also mini golf and mini golf is lit. They also have a nice parking lot that now has some serious burnout marks. Also on Fridays or Saturday's, there's a Dj who plays great classical music that makes me feel like I'm in the 50's. Everyone know that the 50's were pretty awesome. So I recommend if you want some good shakes and a nice serenade by Ben E King to hit up the Red Rooster. read more

You probably read the nice write-up in the WSJ. I did too. If I didn't think the WSJ had some ethics, I'd call this a pump and dump. The place is to be avoided. There are two cashiers and three windows. There are two doors leading to these three "ordering spots" but no one can figure out the system. Everyone walking in says the same thing-where's the line? Hint-one ordering station is for ice cream only, one is for hot food with or without ice cream, and the third window is where you wait forever for your hot food to come out. It's absolute chaos in there. The food is of pretty low quality and priced just the opposite. The Seadog fish sandwich mentioned in the article, with tax, was $5.19, and it is a tasteless piece of fried cod, not at all like a Filet o' Fish, but without the cheese. I am convinced the recipe mentioned for the Seadog in the newspaper article was not used on my order. Unless you have fond memories of the place as a child, don't waste your time or money; you'll be trying your patience. From a former visit before the renovation, I'd say the miniature golf is good for the little kids but as another reviewer wrote, there is none other in the area so do it once for the kids but again, beware the chaos. I'd avoid the weekends too. To exit, you have to either cut the line if its long enough, or walk between two tables that are pretty close to each. What genius designed this? There should be no tables that close to the exit. Zero stars would be awarded if it was an option. read more

They really need to put signs on the doors and register to warn customers it's CASH ONLY.We went on Sunday, 23 September with four kids and two adults. I'm giving this place one star, and I feel like I'm still being generous. The food would be overpriced even if it was great, but it wasn't. It was pedestrian. Twenty-six bucks for three very small, very thin, bare bones bacon cheeseburgers, a box of completely unseasoned fries, and a barely mixed milkshake. Seems outrageous. I won't go back. There aren't many places that can gets malted milkshake right these days and sadly Red Rooster isn't one of them. I asked that soft serve cream not be used but it was. The amounts of "vanilla syrup" and something that's supposed to be malt syrup ( instead of malt powder), I guess, were too much and made the "malt" undrinkable. I didn't even see milk being poured into the cup and that's why it was ridiculously thick. You couldn't even use the straw. I'll look elsewhere for what should be an easy drink to make. read more

We happened to drive by here on a road trip from NY to MA and decided to stop on the return trip. The food was tasty and we loved sitting at picnic benches out back and having the yard space for our little ones to run around in to break up a long drive. It definitely feels like a little slice of Americana. We had burgers, fries, hot dogs, and of course, ice cream! We were here in October of 2015 and I'm just now getting around to reviewing it as we want to go again this summer and I checked on yelp to make sure it was still open. Very happy to see it is. I've been eating at the Red Rooster for 52 years. It was a favorite and mandatory stop on our weekend getaways, with great burgers and fries and ice cream. I'm sorry to say that the recent large expansion to include indoor seating and a beautiful outdoor seating area on a deck overlooking the woods out back has come at the expense of a decrease in the quality of both service and food. The kitchen has become disorganized, with seemingly fewer staff. On my last four visits, they haven't gotten my order correct. A missing soda here, a missing fries there, a burger mistaken for a cheeseburger. Fries weren't cooked quite perfectly and were not salted when they came out of the fryer. One of the two managers having a smoke on the deck in full view At busy times the wait is much longer then previous. No system for letting customers know when their orders are ready. I wonder why they expanded the seating area but not the kitchen. What was once an absolutely spotless establishment now has floors that could use a good sweeping. Sad to see this beloved establishment slipping. I hope they get it together. read more

Came here a decent amount after going to thunder ridge. The other day we put in an order, everyone else in my party of 6 got their food no problem. Waited 15 minutes, asked about it, was told that they were backed up.. fine.. waited another 10 mins... little spanish chick with a lip piercing started saying "she cant do everything", "stop fucking yelling at me" (no one was yelling).. still, waited another 10 mins before I asked another guy who got me my food. Meanwhile 20+ other people got served no problem, and while I asked about mine, this girl did not do a single thing. She continued to browse on her phone and have a stick up her ass. On my way home this evening I stopped by for a simple malted vanilla shake. Sign up above said $4.59. The woman at the register, (older woman and rude) rang up $5.95. ?? I asked her, "how is that $5.95 when the price says $4.59? " She said "tax" but could not tell me what the tax rate was. I knew what the rate was and I knew it didnt come to $5.95. Next, another young, very polite server said that some of the prices had been changed and they had forgot to update the menu above, whick was lit up with red background and white lettering. Not to mention this is what your looking at when you place your order. I felt as the consumer they should honor the $4.59 . Very camly, because Im not a rude, or a confrontational person, I asked for the manager. The manager (there are two and this was the younger manager) came out with hair up on his neck and said "it was a honest mistake, my employee is right and the price is wrong. But, I will honor that price".. I said "thank you very much, i appreciate it." He turned to me and said "this is not stop & shop".. at that point, I said no thank you.. keep the shake. I have been going to Red Rooster for 30 years. I know someone else who recently experienced horrible service. I will not be going back, nor shall my friend. If you own a business like Red Rooster, and have been Blessed all these years with success, you should appreciate all the sales you receive. Even on a cold, fall night, still wanting ice cream. One of the best places to eat in Brewster. If you're looking for a good meal but don't have the time to sit and wait for the food to cook then this is the place to eat. From their burgers to shakes you'll be wanting more by the time you're done. The food is great and so is the service. The workers are very kind and attentive and meet your needs. The uniforms and the interior of the place will give off an old school vibe. The food is great, especially the ice cream and shakes. The chocolate dipped ice cream cones with sprinkles can not be beat. No complaints besides the prices of their food. But, in the end I find it way worth it. i started going to red rooster back in the 70's. I worked down the street on Rt 22 and ate at least 2x a week there. Great food,always clean and professional. The original owner even waited on me at times. Then there was Jack. When I am in the area I go back often and yes Jack remembered me from my many visits to the drive in. Anyone traveling on RT in Brewster, its a must stop location. Great burgers,shakes,ice cream and dont know if they still sell it but Turf Cheesecake was awesome. Even Juniors cant compare to Turf. Every time I go here I'm astounded by how delicious the ice-cream is. My usual go-to flavor is mint chocolate chip with the addition of chocolate "crunchies". That's not to say the other flavors aren't just as amazing, but that particular flavor is just my personal preference. I rarely ever approach Red Rooster with the intent of purchasing anything other than the ever so delightful ice-cream, but on the rare occasion that I have gotten food here, not a single complaint comes to mind. Everything cooked to perfection. Whether it'd be the crisp french fries or the juicy burger, I'm always left with the taste of satisfaction. Yeah so no signs saying cash only by the way so when you find this out after you order then oh well go find an ATM. They offer nothing that you can't get across the street at Burger King except super over priced fried frozen food. Just because they dress in stripped shirts doesn't make it nostalgic or worth your time. What a waste of a great location. Maybe if they made an effort. i love red rooster. i used to go quite often. one night me and my bff jessica called this establishment at 10:20 PM asking if they what time they were open until. An employee said 11 PM. This is kind of one of those places you "have to" go to if you're a tourist. It's very touristy, very expensive, and they take cash only. There's almost nowhere to sit inside (3 mini tables) but outdoor seating aplenty. It's always packed. There is about 12 square feet that doubles as eating area (the 3 mini tables), standing for ordering, and waiting for your order. If you dare to sit at one of these tables you have peoples butts in front of you and knocking into you as they open the door. If you decide to order and wait, since they cook their burgers fresh, you're waiting 5-10 minutes packed like a sardine standing there. They desperately need to expand this front area. For how expensive the food is (super thin burgers are $7-$8 each, cash only), and for how busy they always are, you know the owner can afford to expand the place a bit (and take credit cards). They have some OK mini golf, and a couple stand up arcade machines in a closet with an ATM. read more
