Even though Red Stripe is a French bistro surprisingly they do have some vegetarian / vegan options. I had the veggie burger ($10) which was pretty middle-of-the-road. It came with their shoestring-style fries which were also just OK. The dirty martini ($10) was very very tasty; I highly recommend it. The prices are pretty reasonable especially for a French restaurant -- even the pricier dishes like steak frites and moules frites are about $18-25. The ambience is also nice, with the tile floors and red accents making you feel like you are transported out of Providence. The real downfall of this restaurant is the service. Our waitress was super nice but the service was painfully slow. We were seated in the back room and it felt like we were forgotten about. For New Years Eve, to stay safe from Covid, and to support our local restaurants, we placed a good sized delivery order from Red Stripe. (They use Door Dash). The order was cancelled right away. I called up and was told the chef said they didn't have the staff to run out delivery (but delivery is by door dash). I offered to pick it up and was told we could only dine in. How does that make sense? It's 2pm, they're open for lunch until 4 but we have to sit at a table to be served? We had checked ahead of time, they had no notes on FB or on the website and we had planned this for New Years Eve. They clearly hadn't notified DoorDash either. Wife grabbed a reservation for us and our kids at 645pm, our waitress was very very accommodating and awesome... then our 15 month old had an accident we weren't prepped for (once in a blue type of situation lol). We pivoted to takeout and our waitress didn't miss a beat. She was so kind and made our experience great. We took our food and carried on our way, eating dinner at home. I had high hopes based on reviews. Met friends there on Sunday night post class reunion. Michael was very genuine and gracious gentleman host. I had the mussels appetizer Portuguese style. I felt like it should have come with bread, did not arrive in time. The broth was very good. I was impressed with the linguine clams dish, the clams were delicious and very fresh it was a respectable entree. My wife had the Hangar steak which she enjoyed though it came with a LOT of fries and the fries were not hot. The side salad was very good. One of our party ordered the Shrimp Poke bowl, she said it wasn't what she hoped it would be, wished she had ordered the linguine. My concerns were that the pricing on the check was higher than the prices listed on the menu (no notice of this). I had the Tiramisu for dessert was not really a sharing size and was good but not great, at $9.00 I expected a bit more. Biggest concern was the service, as there was no real flow of the meal or noted sense of urgency from our server when things (like bread) were requested, I felt like the restaurant was a bit short staffed, I asked for bread 3 times and by the time it came out I was finished with dinner. Very nice! Fancy looking with tablecloths. It's a pretty large restaurant with plenty of seating. There were a good amount of people but the back of the restaurant was rather empty and we were seated in a very large round booth even though I was expecting to be seated at a low top table with four chairs. Our waitress was very attentive and took our order as soon as we were ready. My burger was a tad salty which is alright since everything else was great. Food came out fast and hot. And a side note: this is a weird thing to say but the water here was great. I've been to too many restaurants where the water tasted like sink or even toilet water. I got a naked burger with house frites and my mom got the everything but the kitchen sink. Great great experience and our server who I believe was Aubrey was amazing! I hope to return here sometime. Would have never noticed this great little brasserie has someone not recommended it. We found it charming inside. Menu was diverse but house specialty is mussels- done about a half dozen different ways. My wife and I each chose a different style and were very happy with our choices. Good amount of crowd present, most of them appeared to be regulars and knew the bartenders on a first name basis. Attire was casual to somewhat dressy. Most prices $-$$. Got a blue burger and allagash tripel for 20$. Only few beers on tap, more of a wine and cocktail kind of place. Service was quite good. The burger itself although ordered medium was quite dry and some parts burnt and slightly salty. Massive amount of fries were given, not fresh at all. The aioli sauce was really good. I love this place and cant' wait to come back. At first I was just going to have a drink it was already after 9PM, but I was starting to get hungry. So I grabbed a table and the staff was very accommodating since I was cold they let me pick a table in the back away from the door. To start we had the tacos which were absolutely amazing. I have no idea what was in it, but I wish I could have had more than the 3 that were served. There was definitely a spicy kick to them just a side note. I also had the caesar salad which was delicious. I could barely finish it there was so much. For dinner I had the turkey BLT without the tomato with fries. It was delicious and so much that I had to take the other half home. The waiter was friendly and ran with the silly jokes. The food came out quickly and even though it was late I didn't feel rushed. I used to love this place 10 years ago, but the food quality has been reduced significantly in my recent visit. The server was attentive, a little extra with his "check-ins". Went to Red Stripe this evening for dinner! I had a hankering for a good burger. I haven't been there in a few years as the Covid crisis has interfered with my restaurant use the past few years. I do remember having a good burger there. I don't eat much red meat typically. I was not impressed. I sat at the bar and the bar tender was not a welcoming character. She almost made me feel like I was bothering her whenever I asked for something. I really didn't ask for much. My burger which I asked to be cooked to medium was well done. I need to learn to send things back but my interest to minimise my carbon footprint and not waste stops me from doing so, so I didn't. I wanted to. I am a FAN of this place. I love the food and the service - 6 stars for that. Unfortunately less one star for parking and the "crowded" feel of the place. The complimentary bread is fresh and plentiful if you would like more, just ask. No problem. My favorite dishes: Croque Madame - Not many places make this and make it well and consistent. I have had it at least 6 different times and it was PERFECT. The frites, a perfect side at the right size and the dipping sauce...heaven. Hangover Burger - EGG AND BACON and AIOLI on a Juicy and Flavorful and LARGE Hamburger Patty. It is difficult for me to finish the entire plate because the portions are above average. If I do manage to finish it, it is my only meal of the day as a brunch. Deviled Eggs - Wow. Creative. Different and Delicious!! Everything but the kitchen sink - a hearty salad with quality ingredients. Wait staff will take "customizations - removing items" with no issue. Again, love the service here! No no and no! Not tonight. Been there often. Love the food . Noise not so much but yummy makes everything better - usually. Don't know what was going on today but... My mussels - so so sandy. Never had them this gritty and dry. Pork schnitzel was burned - again so dry. Both immediately taken off our bill so we know it was not us! And we NEVER complain. Hmmm....so ordered a carrot cake to go. 9$ and it looked like someone had taken a few bites before they sent it to us! So unusual for this restaurant. With a name like Red Stripe you would expect to find a joint serving jerked chicken and Jamaïcain beer. Far from it. Red Stripe advertises itself as a bistro. It looks like a French bistro but the sidewalk tables are a bit exposed. It's menu is bistroesque and it's lunch selections are delicious. I've had lunch here a number of times over the last few years. It's convenient as you really don't need a lunch reservation and there is plenty of side street parking. Service is professional. But let's get down to the important stuff, food. In a dozen visits I have never been disappointed. I tend toward the steak frites , great bits of steak and very good fries. The moule frite ( mussels and fries) offer a variety where most mussel lovers can find a favorite. Sandwiches are big generous things the Ruben comes to mind here . I've recently tried the grilled cheese with short ribs. I can't wait to come back in a cooler season to try the grilled cheese and roasted tomato combos. Talk about comfort food! It saddens me to say that Red Stripe cannot pull off take out... where to begin... 1.) we ended up with two sides of fries which we didn't order (but paid for); 2.) the wait... we were told to pick up at the back door at 1p... we ended up waiting close to 20 minutes (even after calling) and everything got cold; 3.) the sangria... it was terrible, it taste like watered down white wine mixed with pear juice and there wasn't any fruit; 4.) the take away containers... they were just terrible quality! When paying $100++, I'd expect the experience to be far superior... really disappointed as we've always had great experiences with their indoor dining service. They clearly just aren't set up properly for take out. Overall really disappointed. I came in with a bachelorette party in the morning after a night out. It was actually our meal before we hit the road going home and everything was a great experience. Our server was attentive and very helpful with all of the coffee we needed to recover. Our food came out hot delicious and as we ordered. As weird as this is the thing to comment about the only thing that was weird was using the restroom. The floors were extremely slippery and it was hard to actually get a grasp walking in there without sliding. Went here last night for New Years Eve, and what a bummer! I have seen Red Stripe on a couple must eat lists for Providence so figured we would try it. Those lists must have been outdated or I had a one-off bad experience. On first entering, I was so confused. It was SO bright and looked like I was in an Italian Christmas themed cafeteria. They didn't even bother to take Christmas decor down for New Years haha. There was no music so it also sounded like a cafeteria with clinking from the kitchen and guest chatter. Our table was a high top table in the back. My feet had to dangle cause the foot rest was too far out of reach. This is a pet peeve of mine. Zero stars for ambiance. Our waitress was nice enough and was prompt with our initial orders and French onion soup app. After that, it seemed we waited 45 mins for the rest of our food. Finished our drinks and definitely would have ordered more but we were not checked on. I don't know for sure, but I feel like they forgot about us. My biggest gripe was the food. I will say, the French onion soup was generously portioned and overall really delicious. 4/5 stars, and I would get it again. We also ordered the meatball app and beef stroganoff. These items came out so late, like 45 mins after we ordered and somehow were both cold!! The meatball portion was MASSIVE. The marinara was good but the meatball itself had a not-so-pleasant texture for me. The beef stroganoff was terrible. Cold, dry, and the short rib seemed to be more like beef chuck pot roast. Sadly, this was my most disappointing food experience in Providence so far :( read more

Another semester, another updated review for Red Stripe. So I've learned from my mistakes -- I don't get their pasta. BUT the appetizers are still absolutely delicious. This time I got their Red Stripe burger and I've got to say -- that thing is good. The guac is a bit strange but not in a bad way. The burger? So incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. I love their thin, crispy fries as well. This time around I tried their Red Stripe lager on tap. Good price and good beer. I have heard good things about this place and have always wanted to try it. Stopped in today around 3pm and it was empty, but we had high hopes for the food. First of all, they were blasting hard rock music, and while I don't have anything against hard rock music, it was an awkward place to be hearing AC/DC. The waiter was awful and not personable at all. He didn't even stop back to ask how our food was and we had to wait forever for the bill. Finally...the food. The grilled cheese was soaked in enough oil to power a small town, and my salad looked and tasted like it came out of a "previously frozen" bag. I had to stop eating when I took a bite of lettuce that tasted like it fell off a NYC garbage truck. I got the overall sense that the kitchen was not clean or that they are serving old food. Nothing about this place was good, hence the one star. Our waiter had a horrible attitude with us, but was friendly to the other table right next to us, so I am not sure what that was about. I find the name Red Stripe to be a bit deceiving. I kind of expected a Jamaican themed restaurant but what one finds is an American version of a French bistro. The steak frite is quite good and is generally my favorite here. This time I had a fish taco, in pursuit of the perfect fish taco. It was good but not the best that I've had over the last couple of months. The mussels look inviting so one one of my visits I'll have to try one of the six sauces they serve with them. Three stars only because the waiter was great. We had a 6pm reservation on a Saturday night. They sat us as a high top bar table in the back bar with no table cloth and bar stools. Our waiter was incredibly accommodating and often apologetic for the flaws in the restaurant. We ordered The French onion soup and chowder. French onion soup was incredibly tasty however the top half of it was cold while the bottom was warm at best. The chowder was great; but was cool. We had a few appetizers including the Brussels sprouts. They were terrible. Drenched in oil and no flavor. They we so greasy of you pushed a folk the oil oozed out. The deviled eggs were average. Had the truffle burger. Requested it because medium and it was well done. Wasn't impressed. However they did give a huge portion of fries that were good.
