Unfortunately, guest with overwhelming perfume 6 inches away inhibits the experience tasting as you take a bite of delicious food, your hose is full of perfume. I've been here twice now and am definitely a fan (already have another reservation booked). It's a small-ish space so definitely make reservations. The food is good! It's definitely the kind of place where you'd want to share plates. There are both small and large options. I've tried the focaccia (both regular and one of their specials), deviled eggs, salt cod cakes, cabbage, and mafaldine (twice). I enjoyed all the food! I thought it was very creative and delicious. I went to Fred on a Saturday to have dinner with a friend who I had not seen in a while; it was a great spot to have a nice dinner and catch up! We started with the Sicilian soda and pear spritz drinks (I forget the name of the latter), which were both delicious. For appetizers, I really enjoyed the stuffed peppers, which were stuffed with braised lamb and were flavorful. Lastly, for our meals, she got the chicken Milanese and I got the little necks with pork. I personally loved my little necks, but she did not enjoy the chicken Milanese because it had too much broccoli rabe on top; I personally love broccoli rabe and feel like that was just a preference thing, not a fault of the restaurant. Otherwise, I thought the service was OK. Our waitress was nice, but we were not checked on during the meal. My second drink came much later after being ordered, just as the check was delivered; at that point, I didn't really want the drink anymore given its timing. Overall, I think Fred is worth the visit given the quality of the food, and I would give it a 4.5 rating if I could. I look forward to visiting again. read more

A very yummy dinner! The focaccia and the squid were absolutely delicious! We had a reservation, but arrived early and we were still promptly seated. The deviled eggs and beets were also very good but we would probably switch those up on a return visit. Right when they got busy around 7pm, the service level dropped significantly. It took a very long time for someone to come around and ask us if we needed anything. We wanted a second round of drinks, which came out once we were done with our meal. Celebrated my friends 30th birthday here with 6 other people. We made a reservation and the seating was perfect. We ordered just about one of everything from the small & medium plates, and then a few large plates. The food was creative and the dishes were absolutely delicious. I could not get enough. I'm landing at 4 stars, with hopes that a few tweaks will help this place become a long‑running standout. Our first visit was on a Tuesday, just after the Brown disaster; the dining room was about half full and there was plenty of street parking. The space, however, was quite chilly, and the restroom was even colder, which definitely affected the overall comfort. Service was good and dishes came out as they were ready, (as advertised) but beverage service felt slow, especially for wine by the glass. On to the food. The appetizer list is small and the menu leans toward small- to medium-sized, shareable, vegetable-forward plates. The focaccia was a clear winner at $5, and the duck bollo was the standout of the night and an absolute must-order. Shrimp Mozambique was very good, though it is a dish that many kitchens execute well. The "cabbage," which came recommended by the neighboring table, did not work for us flavor-wise. The "piquillos" (lamb-stuffed shishito peppers) were tasty, but the two very small peppers really stretched the definition of a "shareable" plate. Brownie dessert was a winner. The total for two people, including tip, one cocktail, and three glasses of wine, came to $185. Overall, this spot is recommended but wear a sweater if you plan to dine in and choose your plates selectively. read more

First time dining at Fred. tonight with my Book Club. I really enjoyed the atmosphere- had a warm, inviting vibe with great music. Plenty of room for 6 (+ books ) and we could all hear the conversation and participate. The Menu was not enormous but offered some nice choices for everyone. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and the food arrived expeditiously. Speaking of food - everything was fresh and delicious. I enjoyed my salad with just the right amount of dressing and bursting with flavor. My favorite was the Bolo patty sandwich. Cooked perfectly and the kick of spice in the topping was amazing. Yum!! Had an super delicious evening at Fred. We started with the focaccia and while the bread was good the bagna cauda dip was really what was amazing. Salty, savory, deliciousness. Highly recommend! The bolo burger was also five stars, I would certainly go back just to dig into that again. My friend was obsessed with the cod fritters, they reminded me of the ones my grandmother used to make (which were also super delicious). We also got the shrimp mozambique and the cannellini. Solid dishes all around. For dessert they make one dish a night and you can either take it or leave it. On our visit it was a coffee, chocolate cheesecake. My only feedback is we went in for a birthday celebration, it was noted on the reservation, and the fact that birthday gifts were opened. It would have been a cute touch to have a candle in the cheesecake. I look forward to my next visit! read more

Tuff story when you're all-world, but who better to trust with said decision? Owner and many staff remain, and Fred flexes the chest stronger and even more capably than Bistro, like King Kong with some Botox. The menu is tight but diverse; the drinks cover what you want, with enough offerings you'll ask a few questions. Daily specials have melt-in-your-mouth fish and meat specials, while the printed menu offers intriguing offerings across the board - grab a cucumber salad while you decide on mains, friend-o. No hesitation. Comparing...The seating is less cozy, more hip luxe diner. The music is less '90s Birkenstocks or Doc Martens emo - more '90s Adidas/Timbos (People Under the Stairs, Blackstar, Czarface, and Camp Lo say what's up). Furnishings aren't corner bistro, but are invitingly low-key dim and utterly sushi-clean. If you're still reading - WHY? GO. Then GO AGAIN. I'll be the guy in front of you reserving a table. I really wanted to love Fred, and while there were definitely some highlights, the food didn't quite live up to the great vibe. The space is beautiful--perfect for a date spot or an outdoor meal--with thoughtful decor and a cozy neighborhood feel. Drinks were strong and well-made (the Brazilian lemonade mocktail was especially refreshing, though a bit pricey for a mocktail, and the spritzes were great). Service was also friendly and attentive. Outdoor dining is lovely, though being right on a busy street can get a little noisy. Food, unfortunately, was the letdown. The focaccia and bagna cauda had good flavor, but the portion of bread was tiny for the $8 price (you only get one strip of focaccia). The salt cod fritters sounded promising but came out over-fried and dry. Sweet fingerling potatoes tasted good but lacked texture, and the roasted sweet corn was tasty but with tiny kernels that didn't deliver much substance. The cappellini pasta had nice flavor, but nothing particularly memorable compared to pastas I've had elsewhere. The fried halibut cheeks were the biggest disappointment--very dry, almost like fish jerky. :( The saving grace was the bolos (we tried both beef and duck confit). The buns were a little dry, but the meats and sauces were flavorful enough to make up for it. Overall, I left feeling a little let down, especially given the higher prices. I'd maybe come back for drinks and light snacks because the atmosphere really is lovely, but I don't think I'd return for a full dinner. read more

Ambiance its perfect, good attentive service and delicious drinks like: ELIXIR DEL MARACUYA: Peloton mezcal, stellaire passion fruit, Brazil nut organic and fruit caviar. First time in Fred. Definitely not our last. Cute cozy restaurant, friendly helpful staff. My husband can't have anything cooked in alcohol and our waitress went right to the chef to let us know exactly what was off limits. We appreciate it so much when a restaurant takes this so seriously. We shared 4 dishes. Starting with the Focaccia w/ red onion agrodolce - chewy, salty perfect bread paired so well with the sweet onions. We moved on to the charred cabbage and the beef patty bolo - both of which my husband and I are still talking about. The cabbage was charred perfectly & paired with pickled apples, Gorgonzola, walnuts and brown butter... I could have eaten another plate full! And the beef patty bolo - simple ingredients just done right - juicy, cheesy, a little spicy. Finished up with the chicken Milanese - thinly breaded and fried not greasy and so juicy with more cabbage and a side of tangy piri piri sauce. I came here with 4 friends on a Tuesday dinner which is honestly very nice because not a lot of places are open for Tuesday dinner! This restaurant is located in Federal Hill and I was very excited to try it. Unfortunately, I think the food is the reason I have to give this restaurant 3 stars (will get to it). Otherwise, drinks, decor, location, vibes, waitstaff were all amazing. For food, I think I was most disappointed by the high price but small portions (for example, you pay $8 for 1 slice of focaccia (see my pic below) and a dipping sauce). I was secondly most disappointed by how dry some of the food I had was - the salt cod fritters and the halibut cheek. I was expecting those to be juicy and flavorful and fresh like many seafood in PVD restaurants. They ended up being anything but - I was fighting to rip a piece off to chew for a few minutes :( Ultimately, I probably wouldn't come back for the value. Might come back if friends want to do drinks and small bites here, but don't think I'd spend a full dinner meal here. read more

Help me in welcoming the highly anticipated Fred! This was the ultimate culinary experience. My partner and I went in on opening night around 5:30pm and were warmly greeted by familiar faces that once were part of the Broadway Bistro team. The interior is spacious, bright, and has plenty of seating at both the bar and small & larger booths. As it was our first time, we knew we needed to try multiple things on the menu. I started my night off with La Limonada- super smooth, creamy, lightly sweetened by sweetened condensed milk, and perfectly balanced by the alcohol. Afterwards, we went in on a round of Sweet Fingerling Potatoes. We absolutely devoured them. They were gorgeously complex and unexpected yet familiar and comforting. The combination of fennel and hot honey made it a flavorful experience. We followed the potatoes with a Beef patty Bolo. Judging from the inexpensive price, I assumed it would be a small slider- but it turns out it was a regular sized burger! The beef was dipped in a tasty aioli, perfectly cooked, and the bun was soft and toasted. This was my favorite item on the menu and only $12! Though at this point I was full, I also shared a Chicken Milanese with my partner. The chicken had a perfectly crispy texture and mildly hot sauce on the side. It was stunning! We finished the night off with a light Pistachio cake made by Providence's jewel of a pastry chef, Parvin. It was the perfect complement to our foods, offering mildly sweet and airy textures and flavors. I couldn't be more thrilled this spot is finally open for business. Run, don't walk! What a great new spot! It's a very beautiful space with very attentive service. The menu is small plates that come out fast so you don't need to order all at once. I love the regionally inspired menu with some creative takes on some local faves. If you know you know! Very different menu than the usual Providence spot. I took my parents and they loved it too.
