The establishment was clean and lovely. The presentation of our meals was appealing. The taste, however, was very bland. No flavor at all. The texture of the lobster tale was chewy and tasteless. Most disappointing was the fact that they used imitation crab meat. The menu did not specify. We had to ask twice for condiments such as soy sauce and chili oil.

Okay I had practically given up on finding good sushi in Pittsburgh when my sisters and I read reviews for this place and decided to give it a try. WOW am I glad I did. The sushi tasted very fresh and the presentation was great. Will be returning.

The wonton soup is always amazing! I love the crispy wontons with duck sauce and spicy mustard. The sushi was made to order and was delicious!

The food was delicious and service was good. The restaurant was pretty empty since we were there for lunch, so it's hard to judge the normal atmosphere, but the tables were comfortable enough and the decor is decent.

Short and sweet. The best place! Employees, portions, price, the food is always top notch, never disappoints. I really love it here!

Solid option for some Asian food. They have a fairly diverse menu: lots of sushi rolls, dumplings, Thai options, American Chinese food. I decided to try their pan fried pork dumplings as well as their General Tso chicken. The General Tao's chicken was just okay. The portion was pretty great, and the price was pretty okay. The meat was a little chewy, which I wasn't a fan of, and the chicken chunks were a bit too large. The sauce itself was fine but nothing special. It was overall okay. The dumplings were quite good. They char these very nicely when they are pan fried. I also really enjoy the sauce, which was flavorful and savory. They do use a dough for the wrapping, though. All in all, a decent spot for Chinese takeout. Lots of options to choose from. The dumplings are what I would get again if I visited.

Excellent sushi! I came here for a late lunch on a Friday and had a great experience. The service was great and the sushi and crab rangoons were delicious. If you're looking for a good neighborhood sushi place without the frills, this is it!

Red Tea House has been a staple for me through the pandemic to satisfy all my sushi cravings! I order pickup or delivery from them at least once a month (or as often as I can) and it has been delicious every single time! I have so many favorite rolls and I'm always open to trying new ones. Some of my classic go-to rolls are the Philly roll, rainbow roll, rock and roll. If I'm feeling like getting an appetizer there's never a wrong choice between dumplings or ahi tuna. Every time I've gotten Red Tea House everything has been great whether I got delivery or takeout, and now we just need to have a dine in experience sometime! I'd expect it to be just as good based on past experiences, and we'll definitely be ordering again soon!

Beautiful restaurant, dim lighting, and delicious food. I ordered chicken and garlic sauce. Nice size veggies and thin sliced chicken. Sauce was light and very tasty. My friend ordered the amazing chicken. Lightly breaded, with broccoli. Sauce a bit thicker but again very tasty. We each had lemonade, and bill was $37. Leftovers this morning waitress was very attentive and kind. No pics other than my fortune.

Love the decor and ambiance. Clean and casual. Service was friendly and attentive, young servers do a good job. Had the yellowtail nigiri. Quite a tasty little appetizer. And then the pork fried rice, decent portion and tasty too. Will be back next time in town.

I've been generally impressed by the quality of the sushi. We ordered takeout this time, and everything was extremely well packaged and presented. In terms of the food, we focussed on fairly standard maki rolls: a spicy salmon roll and a spicy California roll. Both were very nicely done. We also tried the veg farm roll, and that was a nice vegetable forward option. Not life changing, but nicely done. We also opted for a vegetable poke bowl, and that was also good. Basically the same combination of vegetables as the veg farm roll, but in a bowl format. The bowl was good, but it was lacking some sort of sauce or glaze that might have pulled things together. It was easy enough to toss on some condiments of our own, but the bowl could have been better. Overall, I this is my favorite sushi destination in Squirrel Hill. It's very clear that the owners are invested in turning out a high quality experience, and that's exactly the type of business I like to support.

Their selection of appetizers were great, and the quality of each was stellar. We attempted to try quite a few of them, and still have many we want to try. In our group, the tofu with an amazing dashi broth, the crab puffs, "sexy jalepenos", tempura kani, and the gyoza were the standouts. As I stated, though...everything we had was awesome. We all ordered a different ramen, and then shared. They were all phenomenal. The steak teriyaki was also great. Sushi wise, we didn't get to try as many as we had hoped. We were too busy reordering the appetizers. We did try the Crazy Mango roll, and ended up reordering that because it was so good. My kids were with me, and they love all things Mango, and this was phenomenal. For dessert, we had a few orders (and reorders!) of the fried bananas. Overall, I cannot speak higher of our experience. It is very clean, well kept up on, and the service was phenomenal. Quality wise, you can tell how much effort they put into the place purely on their presentation. I had to remark many times about how utterly beautiful some of their dishes were. This was not like our other AYCE experiences where they just rush food out to you. They actually put effort into their craft here, and it is quite obvious. We will definitely be back, and look forward to trying new things that we didn't get to before!

My usual order is the chicken katsu bento box, which comes with a good portion of crunchy sliced chicken katsu, rice, two dumplings, a California roll, and miso soup. It feels like a solid, filling meal with enough variety to make it satisfying. The only downside with my most recent takeout order was the sauce placed in the middle of the container. I'm not sure exactly what it was, and after tasting it, it wasn't really for me. Because of the layout of the takeout container, some of it spilled into the rice and rolls. Next time, I'd probably ask for that sauce on the side in a separate container.

SO GOOD. Prices are steep but expected for location and quality of food…read more We went for my husband's birthday and sat at the bar downstairs, overlooking the gorgeous view of the city. It was shockingly not busy until about 630pm and they open at 4. There is no valet, just street parking. They provided complimentary edamame which had a great little spicy kick. I ordered the sour, the yuzu gave it a nice fresh citrus taste. My husband had a scotch and Coke. We decided to order the experience which began with a tartar (salmon, tuna and yellowtail on a bed of tuna). Amazing. We then had a two piece sashimi with jalapeño and crispy potato in a sauce that was similar to Italian dressing. This was our favorite of the entire night. Next was a shrimp tasting. It had shaved cucumber and seaweed in a light brown sauce, perhaps a mirin. It was okay, like a cold miso. We then had a dish I had only seen videos of called Chawanmushi. It was like an eggy flan served hot. My husband was not a fan but I was. Then was the first nigiri which the bartender was kind enough to split for us. It included 4 light pieces of sushi. After that there was a cold infused tomato palate cleanser and the second nigiri with "darker" fish. It was all delicious. After that was a fatty tuna hand roll (like a sushi taco) which was amazing as well. And last for the savory items, a soft shell crab which was very, very good. The yellow sauce tasted like the yellow of a potato salad with tastes that mimicked mayo, mustard and pickles. We ordered another round of drinks and I had a dirty martini which they called The New 32. The last item is the red bean dessert but we opted to order more food and had the Treasure Box ($78) which had 9 different sashimis. There were a few repeats from the experience portion but we were happy to have the first sashimi item again. And last, we had the red bean dessert as well as a complimentary tiramisu dessert for the husband's birthday. The bill was just over $300 which was expected for the location, amount of food and overall quality and experience.

The restaurant is located right on Mt Washington, giving a good view of the city. The interior looks appropriate for a sushi restaurant, but due to the massive windows lacked the darker vibe of other upscale restaurants. I've been to hundreds of sushi spots and the interior was merely average. Otaru seems to struggle with its identity. It needs to either commit to being an upscale restaurant or relax and simply be a quality one. The wait staff were kind and prompt, but at times appeared they may be less experienced. We were brought hot (paper) towels and edamame. We ordered the fried tako balls as an app. I personally don't prefer tako and found it very dense and chewy and the overall flavors were too undeveloped. The hand rolls were well filled and were easy to eat due to being more of a taco configuration than a true hand roll. The nori was not too tough, lending to a pleasant experience. The nigiri and sashimi were also good. The nigiri were good, but not as elevated as another upscale sushi spot in the city. They were still very good, but not quite excellent. They either need a bit more development or to be relaxed and served as two per order and the price adjusted slightly upward. If you take one thing from this review, let it be this. The yellowtail jalepeno cups were astonishing. By far this was the most well executed dish I have ever eaten and the best sushi dish I've had. They appear to be wrapped in toasted sesame seed wrappers. If you've had Hapi mixed crackers they give the same great flavor of the "fried chicken" pieces but with yuzu vinaigrette and the umami of the fish. I will certainly be back solely because of how good they were.
