I ordered a Margherita with extra cheese, and I got a veggie pizza instead. The pizza was okay, though I didn't like some of the vegetables on it. There was a weird spice on it that was vaguely "Mexican burrito" tasting. I was very disappointed they didn't have coffee. This is Berkeley! Everyone drinks coffee! There wasn't much in the way of soda selection, either. The TV, which was always tuned to sports, was over-powering for people who want to chat with each other or read. I happened to be there on quiz night, which was fun and saves this pizza place from one star. If I lived in the area I might go there just for quiz night. While I was eating by myself, I was disappointed I was ignored as a potential participant. I knew a couple of answers in the "literature" category that no one else did. I tried to share one with the team nearest me, but they didn't want help. Anyway I really liked that fun aspect of the restaurant. If I do go there again, and I get the pizza I ordered (without the weird Mexican spice), I might add another star. read more

This place changed my life. I have celiac disease, which means I can't eat anything that contains gluten (e.g., wheat), including regular pizza crusts. Places that serve gluten-free pizza are a rare breed indeed. Amici's has them, but they're tiny and overpriced (at least, as of a couple years ago). So I was living a pizza-free existence, which really sucked. Then I discovered Red Tomatoes. In addition to standard wheat-based crusts for normal people, Red Tomatoes has gluten-free crusts in a variety of sizes. You can customize the toppings, or you can get one of their specialty offerings. Personally, I just go for The Combination, which has a nice assortment of meat and veggies and all that crap. The GF crust tastes great, holds together just fine, and has a nice crunch, but it's a bit thinner and stiffer than some folks might like, and it doesn't have a rim. I actually prefer this style, though. As for their non-GF crusts, you can take your pick from a variety of thicknesses. Oh, and for you whiny vegans out there, they've got pizzas for you, too. And they've got the usual salads and sandwiches and appetizers, which I couldn't care less about. This is a pizza place, after all. Now, if you're trying to plan a fancy date or something, you might want to avoid eating here. The interior of the restaurant is pretty drab and bare-bones (but clean), and they've only got paper plates and plastic cutlery. (The latter is a crime against pizza. Are you listening, Red Tomatoes?) It's a very informal place, in other words. Aside from the silverware, though, it's not a bad location to have a casual meal. They've got a couple of large TVs mounted for watching the game, and a decent number of (bottled) beers available, including the gluten-free Redbridge. Finally, they deliver for free. So now, when I'm hungry and busy/lazy, I can give them a call, and in 45-60 minutes, I'll have fresh pizza at my door. This is a luxury that I, as a celiac, have never had before. Now I've never been happier to be alive. Also, they take cards over the phone, and they remember my usual order, so it's always a convenient process. Viva Red Tomatoes! read more

Went in and had a small-lunch size pizza with a beer. Not a bad place at all. Inside is a lot similar to the old pizza joint that was here, but Red Tomato is a lot better. Plus that they have gluten and vegan items. read more

The staff is very friendly. It isn't the cutest in terms of atmosphere, but the sandwiches are great and it is easy to order and pick up. Plus you can't do much better than a flat $5 for a sandwich, chips, and a drink. read more

I recently had to give up gluten and have been craving pizza. Went here on New Year's Eve. The gluten free crust was pretty good, but I have no basis for comparison as it is the first gluten free pizza crust I have had. I felt like the ingredients were pretty fresh, but for me pizza is really all about the sauce and I found their tomato sauce to be pretty bland. I would probably come back here, but it wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Red Tomato Pizza House suffers from wild differences in its pizza tastes. Before I'd gotten their BBQ chicken pizza and been quite happy. Chicken wasn't dry, BBQ sauce tasted good. No complaints. I just ordered their combination pizza however and it tasted really weird. First of all there wasn't enough tomato sauce on the pizza so it was dry. Not only that, but the overwhelming flavor was Cumin. If you're not familiar with that spice it's the main ingredient in many chile's and Mexican dishes. When I bite into a piece of pizza I do NOT want that flavor in my mouth. Would definitely recommend trying other places for a good pizza pie. read more

Ordered delivery based on the good reviews here. Took an hour and a half and pizza was very mediocre.

Called and placed order for delivery: person on the phone seemed a bit distracted but did their best to take my order correctly. I asked to make sure I would have change for $20 and they said they would but the driver said he didn't. (apparently had to use al his change in the last transaction) so I was forced to leave him a tip bigger than I could afford. I was really annoyed because on top of him not having change apparently I was supposed to give him a coupon but I never told the person on the phone I had a coupon so he said in the end I would have been charged more anyway. He said there wasn't anything he could do and really tried to be nice about it. It was my first time ordering from here. The pizza wasn't as warm as I was expecting it to be and that wasn't very nice but I just microwaved it. I ordered the sweet Hawaiian and it was pretty mediocre, I should have just gotten Domino's. Three stars because horrible is too strong a word, and things like insufficient change and adding a coupon when I never said I had one could happen to any pizza person, right? read more

This small pizza place is pretty good, the pizza is average. Not the best pizza I have ever had but far from the worst. The people there are very friendly and like what they do and help out. To be honest the only reason this is a 4 star rather than a 3 is because of trivia night. I am a sucker for trivia and it is pretty fun here. Good amount of teams and the questions are always interesting. 4 rounds of 10 questions, 3 rounds of a specific category and final round random trivia. first time ive ever had gluten free pizza so dont have much to compare it to. i thought it was pretty tasty. id never have known it was gluten free if I hadnt been told. I'd have thought it was just super thin crust. i got half chicken garlic and half garden medley. i agree with another yelper who liked the roasted garlic pieces on the garden medley. really yummy. also a HUGE plus besides offering vegan and gluten free is that they DELIVER. read more

I made the mistake of not taking J.S.'s advice about explaining how to avoid cross contact and wrongly assumed that they were already doing so since they served gluten free pizza. The bread itself comes from a dedicated bakery but both my sister and I definitely experienced symptoms of having been glutened after eating there. It was delicious (we love the vegan cheese) but we will not be going back. Instead we will be buying from the bakery they buy from and making our own pizzas--minus the cross contact. It would've been 1 star but I give them 2 stars because it was so tasty. read more

For the price and how much time it takes, this definitely worthy of five stars. My girlfriend and I went here on a saturday night, paid twenty bucks, got enough pizza to be full and it tasted great. Got the margarita Calzone. It came surprisingly fast in about 5 min. It was hot and cheesy, but ingredients did not taste fresh, as was evidenced by the amount of water in the calzone. The sheer amount of liquid in that sucker was unbelievable. It had clearly come from veggies upon their defrosting while being baked.
