Extremely Disappointing Customer Service This was honestly one of the worst customer service experiences I've had at a shoe store. I came in ready to purchase work boots, but the service was extremely slow and frustrating. Employees were requiring customers to digitally measure their feet and provide personal information, including an email address, before moving forward with the purchase. When customers questioned the process, employees made it seem like they had no choice and that they could potentially lose their jobs if they didn't follow the procedure. One employee even showed me a PMA/ILWU voucher from another customer as proof that customers are supposedly required to have their feet measured before purchasing. I understand that certain safety-footwear programs may have fitting requirements, but the way this was handled felt unnecessarily complicated and made the purchasing experience extremely frustrating. As a customer who was ready to spend money and purchase what I needed, I shouldn't have to feel like I'm being given a hard time just to buy a pair of boots. Red Wing may make quality boots, but based on this experience, the customer service at this location definitely needs improvement. Corporate should seriously consider retraining the staff on customer service and how these programs should be handled. After this experience, I ended up not purchasing any boots from red wing. I've decided to purchase ARIAT Boots instead. Very disappointed. read more

I dislike leaving reviews like this but a warning must be made: customer service is dismissive and slow. Would not recommend coming here after a long day of work, which is sad as most in this shop were blue collar workers. No solutions or options given when out of stock in sizes (we asked about 3 different shoes!). Just "nope no luck" after spending 20 minutes waiting around to be seen. My partner has been coming here every 6 months for steel toes for the past 3 years. HE BUYS THE SAME STYLE SHOES EVERY TIME IN THE SAME SIZE. Why can't they sell us shoes without hassling him for a foot scan and analysis? I went with him this time and quickly realized why he would be gone for hours. Why does everyone here move so slow? Time is really precious for some people, esp post 10-12 hour shifts on their feet. Walked in, no greeting. Everyone at the cash register (2 but 3 people back there either looking down at that or an iPad). There were multiple other customers waiting in line to check out and pacing the store to get seen. After 10 minutes, a lady says she will be with us shortly and asks people to write their names on a blank unlined piece of computer paper. Sure enough, people who came in after us wrote themselves in first, resulting in them being seen before us. Would have been nice to know this when we walked in so people are first come first served... The lady noticed that we were still waiting and told another associate that we were next/been waiting. He simply said he would go by the computer paper list. It's just unorganized and unprofessional which is such a shame because we love the shoes! After declining the foot scan for the third time and over 20 minutes later, they agree to check for the shoe size and don't have the ones he wants. Okay, maybe this one? Not that one either. Okay what about this other style? No sorry. And that was it. .... Should we check other stores orrrr? Can I place the order with you so you get the sale and I'll wait for delivery orrrr? Nothing. This place is a joke. The customer service is quite possibly the slowest and most incompetent I've encountered at any Red Wing store. I'm a returning customer and have been purchasing Red Wing boots for work for more than 15 years. Here's my experience on 6/8/26 at approximately 12:45 p.m. I walked into the store and found one employee assisting a customer. I was asked to sign the waiting list, which I did. After waiting approximately 10 minutes, two employees came out from the back. One of them told me they would be right with me. I then waited another 10-15 minutes before receiving any assistance. At that point, there was still only one customer being helped despite having three employees in the store. One employee handed me a tablet and asked me to enter my name and email address. After I completed that, she returned and instructed me to walk on an electronic pad that measured my feet and gait. I asked if that was necessary because I already knew exactly what I wanted, I was looking to purchase the same boots I had bought in the past. She informed me that she could not help me unless I completed the foot measurement. Reluctantly, I removed my shoes and stepped onto the pad. After walking back and forth several times, she finally asked which boot I wanted. I pointed it out, and her response was, "I don't think we have your size." I then asked if she could check the back, and her reply was, "I'm pretty sure we don't have your size." At that point, I was visibly frustrated. There were no solutions offered, no suggestions made, and no effort to help me find an alternative. The entire experience felt dismissive and unprofessional. If I'm being completely honest, I don't think I'll ever return to this Red Wing location after this visit. I normally don't leave bad reviews, I am really polite when it comes to interacting with workers. I know how rude people are sometimes, there was two workers working today. A Slimmer lady with black hair and a larger one with dyed blonde highlights. The larger female told me to give her a second I quietly sat down and waited for her to help some customers, for about 30 minutes. Once I saw she was done with her customers. I politely stood in front of her while she was talking to her co-worker. She completely ignored me like did not exist. I was a couple feet away from her standing there for like 10 minutes. Went in on 9/4/2025 at 10am right when they opened to try on different boots for an exchange and I was helped by 2 different people but both understood my foot sizing situation because I had surgery on one foot so it's a half size bigger/wider which makes getting any footwear difficult. They brought me 4 different sizes in different boots and I returned my Clearwaters and got the Wingshooter XD & spent $88 more. Their inventory is a little slim sometimes because this store is popular in the South Bay for long shoreman. So if you're in a rush call ahead and ask if they have what you're looking for instead of complaining when you get there and leaving a bad review. Been buying boots here for years. Recently bought a set and after 33 hours the insides started to come apart. Took them back for warranty and at first the gal did not want to warranty them but another set of insoles. I'll first start by saying the shoes that I purchased are definitely great quality. Well, they were purchased for me as a Father's Day gift. The only problem was that they are a half size too big. Understandable. My wife and son purchased the size I normally wear in shoes, but the heritage boots run a little big. So I went to merely exchange the shoes. Same shoes, different size. Easy, right? WRONG. I was made to feel like this was not okay. I was told this is "there last time we can do this for you"? Weird, but okay. They then gave me the correct size and we found a blemish on em. They were unable to correct the blemish, so I told em to order me a new pair. They said this again would be a special exception. And that if they order me a new pair, and it too was blemished, that it's just too bad so sad. I'm stuck with em. NO MATTER WHAT! Ridiculous. I had them order me the new pair, and I guess I gotta pray these $350 boots aren't blemished, because I will own them no matter what. On top of that the sales associate recommended a pair of socks to go with the boot purchase. The label says for shoe sizes 9-12. I opened them and tried one sock on and the heel was above my ankle. They said I couldn't exchange those at all. So I'm stuck with socks that don't fit. This is crazy stuff. I'm buying premium stuff, but made to feel like I'm at a swapmeet with the weird service and policies. It stinks because I love the product. I guess I'll have to just find a new location. I read the rest of the reviews and see this is a common problem at this location. Sad. Quick update... HANNAH from RED WING corporate called me today and provided the service I'd expect from a manufacturer of this caliber. She's ensured me that I will never have to accept a damaged product. Picked up a pair of iron rangers in black. Joseph took the time to size me up and show me the difference between the standard & wide boot in the same size. Went with the wide as I added their memory foam insole as well. I'm normally a 11.5-12 in other shoes (Nike etc). These are size 11 EE (wide)..? . Think these obviously speak for themselves. I've been shopping here for many years and I'm sad to say I probably will not be purchasing any more boots from here. Two stars are for the staff although they didn't do a very good job oiling my boots and the Cobbler apparently sewed one part of the boot and not the other. I also purchased a new pair and maybe it's just me but it seems like the leather and craftsmanship of the boot has gone down hill. I have never had this hard of a time breaking Redwings in. This place is so awesome and amazing that I had to write a review. I recently began working with OCPW in the Construction Section and I needed boots. It was recommended I go to the Santa Ana location but I shortly found out that they have a VERY limited women's section (although they were also very nice). He recommended I come to the Long Beach location since they had a better selection. Anyway, so I came here and that's where I met George. He's patient, friendly and bilingual. He helped me out through the whole process and I felt like he had my best interest in mind. He also let me know about the lifetime cleaning service which I think is great; I'm looking forward to it. Never should someone have to come in to a business with no acknowledgement, wait in line for 5 minutes while there is 2 sales reps behind the counter (1 assisting and 1 not) and have someone just walk up and get serviced with no disregard to me waiting. Went in with my company voucher, was greeted within seconds by a young woman. She scanned it and let me know what section I could choose from. Showed me a few popular styles for my industry and price range. Found some great looking 6 inch boots for right at my limit. I was in and out within maybe 15 minutes? Very helpful staff and great selection. Red Wings is an expensive brand but you're paying for their quality in craftsmanship. If I could give -10 starts I would!!!! Be carful if you buy a pair of boots from the heritage line, because if you have to exchange them for any reason, (could be that their are hurting your feet when you wear them.) To bad, red wings have a return policy that once you buy them, and use them, even for a couple hours, they can not be return or exchange. The tricky part is that " THEY DO NOT INFORM YOU AT ALL ABOUT THIS POLICY." I bought the heritage 1905 style for $340dls, (which are not comfortable at all, not even Robo cop who is made of steel can't wear them) , and they guy who helped me never told me that those were not work boots, when I was so clear telling him that that was my first time using boots, and also I let him know that I wanted the boots for work. He never mention any recommendations for special work's boots. I tried them at the store , and I felt they fitted right; but after an hour that I was out wearing them; they were destroying my ankle. The next day I took them back to the store, and surprise " I can't not exchange them because the policy that I was never informed" I let them in the store for a week to see if the can be stretched, but after the stretch process they still killing my ankle, even after a couple hours that I used them. I escalated the situation with the manager, and she told me that the only thing she can offer me, was to try again the stretch process again, and like 1000 sorry,but that's all she can do. I feel like I just got my money stole , because no body told me about the policy, and I can't wear these boots, so I might have to throw them away. So I've been here several times before. I live in the area so it's super convenient over the longevity of my career of needing new work boots every year. I go between here and Urban feet in San Pedro. So since I was close I figured I'd go in get 2 pairs of work boots. I was glad I found parking in front of store and it didn't look crowded. I walked in I saw 3 customers being helped. I didn't walk to look at shoes. I stood at entrance of store thinking that was the waiting area since Covid and I'm accounting for space of others. I literally was there maybe two minutes before a employee who was helping someone tells me you can't be in here and points to the door. You need to leave. You need to go ! I was so thrown off. I didn't cause a stink or even say much I was in shock. It was poor etiquette and customer service. So I leave and I see no line set up outside or waiting area. I literally jump back in my car and leave. It would of been better for someone to just kindly say excuse me we are at our capacity of customers currently. Once we are thru we will come get you. We appreciate your patience. Something reasonably informative and kind. It's just poor business practice. It's disappointing since it's close to me. Just went in this morning. Ready to plunk down 200 bones for safety shoes. I found a pair I liked and the shoe fit well. Sounds good huh? I wondered why both shoes had already been laced properly as the guy helping didnt do it. Oh well, whatever I thought. I then just happened to turn the shoe over and found dirt all over the sole.
