Even though I live literally a stone's throw from Schlitts and Giggles, I prefer to drive to Red Zeppelin to get my pizza/calzone fix. I've always had pleasant experiences with the staff and the vibe looks and feels just "busy" enough without being overwhelmingly loud or crowded. The calzones can be pretty greasy (little explosions of grease occasionally spray out while cutting) but they are a great size:price ratio. I have a feeling the tiramisu just comes out of a Sysco box but I still think it's pretty good as well. There is one glaring negative item I feel people should be aware of... DO NOT GET THE CAPRESE SALAD. Instead of basil, they squirt a bunch of nasty pesto all over the mozzarella and tomatoes. I'm not sure who made that call but, imho, Caprese is supposed to be a light and subtle appetizer type of item, and the liberally squirted pesto totally ruins it. This place is great! Good pizza, a large selection of beers on tap, and good service. They had quite a few customers and a steady stream of takeout orders but despite being busy their service was pretty fast! I had the Mamma Mia which was great with a nice mix of veggies and meat. Others in our party raved about the veggie pizza. It seemed like you couldn't go wrong no matter what you ordered. We happened to be there for $3.00 pint night. I was impressed because the cheap pints weren't limited to just a small selection - you could get anything they had for their $3.00 deal. They had a great mix of local, craft, and just regular beers. There is a lot of nearby parking even if their lot is full. We will totally go back next time we are in town. read more

Fantastic patio! Opted for inside dining due to heat wave which was inviting. Started with Buffalo wings and jalapeño mango wings-excellent and the sauce was fresh and made in house. In fact some of the best I've had! Large pizza, half cheese and half all the meats. It was a thinner crust so just perfect. . It was plenty for a family of five and left with two slices to take home. Excellent pizza, the best I've had in awhile. I thought Mellow Mushroom was good then I tried this. It also has a better, more adult, ambience. Saturday evening and everyone was dressed very casual, a lot of kids from baseball games/families, dogs everywhere on the patio, a few college kids. We waited for about 10 minutes for a table, waited longer for our appetizer, and finally the pizza. Worth the wait! Delicious! Larges aren't very big tho, 8 smaller sized slices. Very good pizza. Service outside seemed a little slow . We went inside to escape all the noise, kids, dogs, traffic, wind. The pizza is set on a wire frame that flimsily holds the pizza above the table, which is ok if you eat in a hurry. The elevating allows the pizza to cool rapidly from top and bottom. The Freddy Mercury pizza is craveworthy. I was able to call in my order, pull up to the window, and pick up my pizza on the way home within 15 minutes. The pizza gets better as it sits, so lunch the next day is awesome. The restaurant crowd can be hit or miss. You can be surrounded by kids throwing fits one night then be among young professionals the next. I have been going to Red Zeppelin almost every week lately, and always have a wonderful experience. The servers are very friendly and the food is always delicious! I've tried the jalapeno cheese bread, hummus, and all vegetarian pizzas. All are fabulous! The heartbreaker pizza is my favorite, and I love to get it with light cheese. The hummus is great too, and I love the pizza points it is served with. RZ has good drink specials too and a fabulous beer selection. The only downside is that it gets crowded ( and noisy!) quickly, and there are usually crying children around. But, I can't fault the restaurant for being so good that everyone wants to go! read more

When your reference point for Pizza is the North End of Boston or Providence Rhode Island you don't have high expectations for pizza from Baton Rouge Lousiana! That is until you go to the Red Zepplin and you order a couple of pies and they rock. The crust was perfect (very little flop - for Frankie) and not a doughy mess you normally get from a lot of pizza places, the toppings were all top notch and generously applied. We ordered two pizzas one with Pepperoni, Black Olives and Mushrooms, one cheese pizza, a meatball sub, and the spinach dip. HOLY CRAP all of it tasted great. If you are looking for Da Best Pizza in the south I would highly recommend you avoid all other pizza places and go right to Red Zeppelin - OH and I forgot - get there early to pick up your pizza and have an ice cold beer! This is one of the few pizza places I've ever dined in, but the experience was quite pleasant. There's a outside patio with a huge TV and inside there are 7 tables with TVs in every direction AND an awesome alternating neon light bar. Yeah this place is small but the character isn't. For a pizza place, the interior was quite unexpected. Looks like a restaurant for a more upscale place, but it gives Red a great feel. Quite impressed with the cheese bread and the marinara. I actually really liked it, and I usually don't favor cheese. Perfectly baked and with the right amount of seasoning :) You can do half and half, thankfully bc I like mine with just pepperoni and others like fully loaded. I really enjoyed my half of the pizza. This place was awesome! I loved the retro feel that it had upon walking in. It looked like a diner from the 1960's. It rocked! I would have given Red Zeppelin 5 stars, but I did find one thing that disturbed me. The cashier on this night was handling money, playing in her hair and making drinks. She did not wash her hands in between. I watched in agony as she touched someone's garnishes for their Bloody Mary after she touched the register, money and her hair. That grossed me out. This is the only negative thing I have to say about this place! As for the food, we ordered a beer and a drink to enjoy while we waited for our order. We tried calling for delivery but the phone stayed busy for over 10 minutes so we just decided to drive and place the order togo. I ordered the 10" Mothership pizza which was amazing! The crust was super thin which I loved about it and delish! The sauce was just right and not overwhelming on the pizza. I also ordered the Thai Chili wings which were great as well. They could have been cooked a little longer but that's just my preference. My wife ordered the 10" Back in Black pizza. I tried a little piece and if you love Alfredo, you can't go wrong with this pizza! She also had the Pesto Cheese Bread which was okay. It was just some thick bread with pesto and cheese on it. Look, I get it, you're a super hip classic rock pizza joint trying to impress local hipsters with your craft beer menagerie, but having a giant poster/mural of John, Paul, George, and Ringo staring at me while I take a piss is slightly off-putting. I'm JS. The majority of the points for this rating come from the atmosphere and I'm sure the nightlife of this joint is what truly makes it, HOWEVER, as someone from Chicago who knows her pizza, this place fell short. The Mellow Mushroom has them beat in every category except for price. So take that however you will. read more

I've been wanting to try this pizza joint for awhile and I finally made it here! My family went for a Sunday lunch. I was happy to see that they offer their lunch menu on the weekend. This is a rarity in Baton Rouge. We started with the pesto cheese bread and it was awesome! I seriously could have just eaten that for my meal. It was an ample size appetizer and made me look forward to our pizza even more than I already was. My kids got slices of cheese pizza. However, they arrived very overcooked. So overcooked that I immediately sent them back to have them redone since the cheese was literally brown and my children would have never eaten it. Thankfully we still had some of the pesto bread to keep them occupied while we waited for the replacement. The replacements were still a little overcooked but edible and both kids seemed to enjoy it. My husband and I shared a great Balls of Fire pizza which had meatballs, jalapenos, feta, and bbq sauce. It was very good! Overall, we had a pleasant first experience here and we will be returning. I'm hoping we caught them on an off day with the slices being overcooked. But I am going to have to return soon if for no other reason than to get the pesto cheese bread! read more
