This is the best seafood spot in Boston! Look no further! I've tried oyster po boys here, lobster rolls, clam chowder, lobster bisque, and fresh raw oysters. Their best item is the oyster po boy. From the flavorful breading on the oysters to the sauce, and the perfectly buttery bun, everything about it was perfect! Their lobster bisque was my second favorite thing there. It is a must try. I went to Quincy Market after the first time coming here, and Red's Best Seafood is still 100% better than anything that I got there. The second time that we went (we had to come here for our last meal in Boston because the first one was so phenomenal), we got super lucky and got $1 oysters. The oysters were $2.25 per piece the first time we went. Their lobster rolls are the most perfectly executed that I had in Boston. The bun was perfectly buttery. The lobster roll had tiny pieces of celery and parsley on it. Every bite had a lot of lobster inside. There was never a line here when we went. There are seats around the stand. You order on one side of the store and pick up your food at the other end. There are boards saying where each their items are from. There's even a little map by the waiting area to show you the process of how they get their fresh seafood.There is a ton of stuff we didn't get a chance to try here yet, but I definitely recommend trying Red's Best if you're in Boston! read more

We stopped by Red's for a quick bite. They offer seafood and a full bar with plenty of Boston-inspired options. I had a Sam Adams, clam chowder and fish and chips. The prices were reasonable, for an airport that is! My fish and chips was $13 and a generous portion. The fish was decently fresh, though I did get a couple overcooked fries. It's in the Boston Public Market and initially me and my sister didn't want to walk there after roaming Faneuil Hall but trust me and go there. It's worth it! Everything made fresh to order and even when they accidentally made fish tacos vs fish and chips, they made it expediently and didn't faulted in their quality and flavor. The calamari was crispy and was super tender. The oyster poboy was amazing with the aioli and did not come off gritty. The chowder was chunky and amazing even for the summer time. Last but not least was the amazing fish and chips. The fish was flaky, steaming hot, and well-seasoned. Every time I come to Boston I will know how to visit here. Red's Best Seafood is a seafood vendor inside of the Boston Public Market on 100 Hanover Street, a block over from Haymarket Station. In addition to the fresh seafoods sourced from the famous seaports that you can purchase by the pound, you can also order up hot items such as seafood (fish or scallop) tacos, buttered lobster rolls, crab cakes, fish and chips, fried oysters, fried scallops, and other items. The soups that you can order are the clam chowder and the lobster bisque. You can order freshly shucked oysters and clams in addition to steamed lobster. Instead of the lobster roll, I prefer the lobster over kale. This is a prepared item that you can grab and go rather in the refrigerated section. There is also sliced salmon and sliced tuna salad. When I head over to the Boston Public Market for lunch, I tend to go for the sushi and the poke bowls. My favorite roll is the crunchy salmon roll with crispy salmon skin on top. My next favorite is the spicy salmon. The spicy tuna had to be the spiciest spicy tuna maki I have ever tried. The fiery red color is no joke. Not the prettiest rolls but the fish is always fresh and tasty. My favorite poke bowl is the crab meat poke bowl. This bowl has plenty of crab meat with a spicy mayonnaise dressing. There is a small amount of cucumbers and thin slices of avocados as well. I haven't tried the other poke bowls since the portion are small for the price. I feel like there isn't enough protein (fish) to justify the price. Which makes me always go for the spicy crab bowl. Overall, this place has great quality sushi that you shouldn't skip over. Red's Best also uses real wasabi and not the powder tube wasabi. And if you have had the real stuff, it's actually much more pleasant than the powder variety and not as spicy. Head over on the first Sunday of the month for the freshest $1 oysters you'll ever have. The guys who work there are super friendly and they shuck very well--no crunchy pieces! We ordered 36 oysters and not one was questionable (and we're from San Francisco so we know our seafood!). Clam chowder and lobster bisque were both solid. This is one of the best places to visit in Boston. It's only a 5 minute walk from Quincy Market so I would highly recommend Red's Seafood for all your seafood cravings. A lobster roll at Quincy Market will cost $21 at the 3 different seafood places that offer it. A lobster roll at Red's costs $16 and it's goood--tender lobster with celery crunchies and a buttery bun that isn't too buttery. We were also lucky to be there on the first Sunday of the month, when apparently oysters are $1 each! So we didn't plan on oysters (which are normally $2.25 each) but accidentally ate 30 for $30. Checked out this place after getting a good recommendation from the gentleman over at Qs Nuts. This place IS seafood in Boston. Everything they get is local and they supply so much of the food that you are getting elsewhere in town. They are the middleman. Red's literally meets fishers at the doc and gets the seafood from them directly, they work with over 2000 independent fishermen. This is their only storefront so you are getting your food fresh as can be and at decent prices for the quality. The menu here had about 10-15 items of fresh quality seafood and if you are local you can also buy fresh raw seafood to take home and cook as well. I went with the Oyster Po Boy which was pretty good. The seasoning wasn't my cup of tea, but still very good, although next time I would go with the fish sandwich. I'm not a stranger to seafood or related markets, and Red's puts "Best" in their name for a reason. Whether you are stopping in to grab some of the freshest catch of the day or just for a quick bite in their Boston Public Market location, you will not be disappointed. First thing you will notice is there is a bit of a saline scent in the air, not the traditional "fishy" nose that many associate with the various fish markets. Fresh fish that has not oxidized does not have the fishy smell but should rather smell like the ocean (salty) or body of water retrieved from. This is a good thing, trust me. Their catches changes on a weekly basis based on the suppliers' bounty and I typically try to get there Monday or Tuesday to get the stuff right after it comes off the boat. Second, you will notice that each item displayed in the case has a few key pieces of information: boat, fisherman, and equipment. This is to signify a few different things but the overall idea is you know where your fish is coming from and that the methods used are local and sustainable. This impacts the pricing slightly, but is a price I personally am willing to pay in order to positively impact the environment and ecosystem and prevent over-harvesting and damaging the oceans in the process. Lastly, the employees on hand are a pleasure to deal with. I've had experiences with both ends of the counter and they are always willing to answer questions, offer up suggestions for preparation, or help you find the lunch you are looking for from their menu. They are knowledgeable about their product, their suppliers, and genuinely love what they do. I go out of my way to stop there whenever I can and grab a pound or two of their various catches for our weekly meals and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon! read more

I first learned about Red's Best Seafood when I did the the Freedom Trail tour and my tour guide recommended this place for clam chowder and lobster rolls. Since I didn't want to leave Boston without giving this place a try, I slightly tweaked my itinerary and came here for my last meal in Boston. Red's Best is located in the back end of the Boston Public Market and they offer various prepared to-go seafood items (e.g. sashimi, poke bowls, etc.), soups (clam chowder and lobster bisque), seafood sandwiches (e.g. oyster po' boy), crab cakes, fish & chips, and many other seafood options. *** Lobster Roll ($16): They only serve traditional cold lobster roll. Bread had a nice crunchy texture, but overall it wasn't not as buttery and meaty as cold lobster roll from Neptune Oyster. However, I do think it is a good value considering Red's Best lobster roll is $15 cheaper than Neptune Oyster's lobster roll. Clam Chowder ($5): I was told that they will need another 5 minutes to finish cooking clam chowder and it turned out clam chowder was ready in 3 minutes. I like Red Boston's version better than Boston Chowda's version (the one in Quincy Market). Red Boston's chowder tasted creamy with a hint of seafood umami aftertaste. There was a bottle of hot sauce on the counter and the guy working on this fairly quiet Sunday afternoon was kind enough to give me a little container to put in some of that. We were so famished we looked for the closet seafood serving establishment in a 5 minute radius to our hotel. This is where we landed and couldn't be happier. After reading the reviews, I decided to come here since it was super close to my hotel. If you want to order the lobster roll, they don't make them or take orders until 10:30am. So I waited around since it was only like 25 minutes. The person who took my order was very friendly. Once I received my roll, it was aesthetically pleasing. I had one free (freezing) day in Boston, and walked into the Boston Public Market for some warmth. The selection of foods/treats is impressive, but I decided that while in Boston, I had to go for some seafood. Red's Best Seafood is situated in the back of the market, with an extensive display of fresh, locally sourced seafood. I opted for a cup (5$) of clam chowder and the fish sandwich. Clam chowder: pretty decent, as far as clam chowder goes. Salty, thick, and steaming hot with decent chunks of clam throughout. There were a few underdone potato chunks scattered in my portion, but nothing offensive. I have to say, I may just not be a fan of chowder myself. Fish sandwich: man this was good. The fish was undoubtedly fresh, battered and deep fried. Served on a soft bun with lettuce, tomato, and some kind of yummy sauce. It was a generous portion of fish with a thick crispy batter. I wish I would have gotten this with a serving of fries in lieu of the chowder. (They had lobster poutine today, I definitely missed out!) Over all, decent price for delicious food. I checked out the Public Market today and discovered Red's Best Local Seafood. I haven't tried other items besides the cl chowder. To my surprise, it's the best and fresh clam chowder I've ever had in my life. Much better and tastier than the ones in New York, Portland, San Francisco and Seattle, There are a lot of clams in the soup and the freshness. It is not salty and perfect to my taste buds. Amazing fish and chips. I came here to get groceries at the hay market and this place is right there. Fries were ok but the fish was the star of the show. It was flaky and probably the best I've had. Ofc with fried stuff you gotta drink something carbonated so I grabbed one of their blueberry sodas which I'd recommend trying.
