Absolutely amazing. Coming from Southern California, my girlfriend and I came up to Cambria to escape the craziness and escape we did. Our last stop before heading home was breakfast/brunch at Redwood. It is a wonderful hole-in-the-wall type of place that you typically only see in movies. We stopping in on a quiet, cloudy, Wednesday morning and the chef and waitress were extremely friendly. I had seen a picture in Yelp if there Biscuits and Gravy which is what really drew me in. And they did NOT disappoint. HANDS DOWN, the greatest B&G I've ever had. Also, my girlfriend who is typically a light eater, almost cleaned her whole plate. I was impressed, so anyone reading this, come here. It is a gem and all who visit Cambria should give this place a shot. 5 STARS from us. read more

My husband and I were looking for a nice, quiet place to enjoy breakfast together while visiting Cambria for the weekend. We found that and much more at Redwood Cafe. The food was delicious, especially the cinnamon roll! Husband enjoyed his sausage omelette and especially that he was asked if he wanted his side of bacon crispy Our waitress was wonderful and attentive. It seems as if it is family owned and ran. Cold, reheated Grits. Dry too! Unforgivable. I had to dig up chunks to even try to eat it. How do you mess up grits? Sausage patties felt microwaved, not even seared on the grill. This spot is a hidden gem. So mad I didn't take pictures of my blueberry pancake special brimming with blueberries. Best pancakes I've ever had. Well, the coffee is basically colored water and two of them were a total of $9.75. The eggs taste like free hotel eggs. The only good thing we ordered was the side of fries that came with my sons peanut butter and jelly. It really seemed like the quality of a continental breakfast to describe it best. My husband got the breakfast burrito and it looked delicious but had little flavor. The "salsa" on top seemed like canned tomatoes. I gave 2 stars because the servers were nice, when I informed them I never received my side of toast they took $3 off our bill. Still not a breakfast worth $50 though. read more

We sat out in the patio and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. I had the Ethan's Special and my hubby had the French Toast with Bacon. There is plenty more of parking. We will definitely be back to this little gem the next time we're in town. read more

We stayed in Cambria this weekend and I love to try new places for breakfast, but I wish I would have listen to my husband and ate the breakfast where we were staying. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, and biscuit and gravy. My eggs were not cooked all the way, the bacon was so thin you could see through it, the home fries were frozen potatoes, and the biscuits and gravy!? The biscuits did not taste home made but tasted frozen, and the gravy was disgusting. I wish I had taken a picture, but I didn't even eat my food, and the waitress didn't even ask why?! read more

I wish I would have took a picture of our delicious food we picked up from redwood Cafe, but it was so good me and my husband just ate it all up. We ordered from an awesome lady I wish I would have gotten her name and we did a pick up, but if there wasn't a pandemic going on we would have definitely ate there because it was the cutest dining area and had such a great vibe. I ordered French toast breakfast and the fresh toast were absolutely cooked to perfection, crispy but soft, not soggy! Such a lovely experience! Service was great. Our table was next to the door, and the host moved us to another table(out of the cold breeze) as soon as one opened, and I didn't even have to ask! This is a humble place, not as slick or pretty as other places but great food and friendly service. My husband had a bacon cheeseburger with fries that was great, and I had a breakfast burrito. Delish! And they have the off-street parking lot, which on a crowded weekend is much appreciated. I heard a neighboring table try to order the cinnamon rolls, but they were sold out. Skip this one. Mainly a locals place for basic breakfast in with basic décor. I had the onion, mushroom, bacon omelet with grits and wheat toast. The omelet is actually a frittata folded in half with all the ingredients in the egg mix. That's okay but, it was way over done, brown and leathery on all sides. The grits came in a small bowl and were one solid brick. I added three cups of creamer to loosen it enough for eating a portion of it. The grits were actually fully cooked but must have been left overnight and jelled. I got a side of salsa that was "hand made" but mainly large chunks of canned tomato and that was the predominate flavor. Toast was acceptable. Coffee was acceptable. Note: Across the parking lot is a higher grade of food for the same pricing. read more

Had a scrumptious breakfast here before heading out to Hearst Castle. The place is the quintessential hole in the wall that small towns are made of. We sat outside at a small table with the perfect temperatures of the area. Our service was excellent, and the staff friendly. My wife had the breakfast burrito, which she enjoyed, and I had the Chorizo and Havarti omelette, with grits and biscuits. Hard to find good grits (I'm from the south) in California, but these were really good! The omelette was oozing with high quality Chorizo and melting havarti cheese...an excellent combination. Here at this hidden little place we passed it twice trying to find it..almost said the hell with it but we did find it and it was worth it..I had the havarti scramble and it was very good my fiance well she just had something simple bacon and eggs everything was excellent and they kept the coffee coming..would truly come here again and I would recommend this little place to anyone.the service was great even when busy girls kept walking around smiling and checking on everyone to make sure everything was ok..thank you REDWOOD CAFE. read more

We sat down and got served coffee, I'am lactose so I asked the waitress if they had any alternatives; almond milk for my coffee. She said yes and I was happy! We got eggs Benedict and scrambled eggs & toast & home fries. I don't know if this was a spot I would return to for breakfast as the food wasn't outstanding but it wasn't bad. We were coming from Moonstone Beach and decided to stop in Cambria for breakfast. Upon arrival, there was a wait to sit outside, which of course was no problem. The woman at the host desk told us that the seating outside was on a first come, first serve basis and my friend asked if we could give her our name so that when the table was ready, we would be called. She looked at my friend and said with serious attitude, "We don't do that." We let it go and waited. Strike One: When a couple got up to leave from an outside table, we headed over (pretty standard for anyone waiting for a table) only to be YELLED at by the server AND the manager to not sit down until they could clear the dishes and wipe the table. Of course we wanted our table cleaned, but I couldn't believe it and said, "Well you don't have to yell at us." Strike Two: The server's response to my comment above. She said, "You know, I'm serving your food so you better be nice to me." Ummm.... What? Appalling. Strike Three: The server came over to us and repeated her disgusting comment. We left. So, my recommendation is to skip it all together. There are so many other wonderful options up and down the coast why bother with this dump? read more

It seems that many of the people eating here are regulars, and the staff and owner seems to be almost friends with all those folks. Very friendly and cozy place. Just wish their food was better. 1. Large Orange Juice $3.75: The menu said freshly squeezed, but I swear it must be processed. I dunno. Perhaps I'm wrong, but didn't taste like typical fresh-squeezed to me. Well, I guess I should just give them the benefit of the doubt, but if you're looking for that fresh taste, I'm not sure this will do it for you. 2. Hash Browns $3.00: Actually..... pretty good! Outside was crispy and the inside was moist with nice texture. Good hash browns for sure. 7/10 3. Eggs Florentine $10.75: So... this one is tough. I would say to me it tastes alright, but 3 things must be noted: 1) The hollandaise sauce was very poor quality. It was separating already, and that is a big no-no for this sauce. (Please see the pictures--you can easily see the clumps of oil.) 2) The hollandaise is different from the traditional type, but I'm not sure if this was on purpose. It has a chunky cheesy taste, not the creamy texture you would expect. Almost like they added cheddar cheese. This might have been on purpose, but I'm not so sure. Tastes okay though. And, 3) My gf has a very sensitive palate, and she thinks there's something not quite right in the potatoes and rest of the dish. A metallic flavor she says. She explained that taste comes from overuse of old oil that should have been thrown out. To me it was okay, but overall did taste a bit different. 4/10 4. Sausage Gravy & Biscuits $7.50: Biscuits and gravy is my all time favorite American breakfast food, so suffice to say I've had a lot. And this one was quite disappointing. The biscuits taste like the frozen roll type, and are not light or fluffy. The gravy though was particularly bad--very little flavor. A bit watery tasting. Not bad tasting, but not appetizing either. 4/10 This place is a delightful place to sit down and soak in some sun in the patio. They have a very Havarti forward menu. I had the chorizo and havarti omelette. Quite tasty. My significant other had the havarti french toast. Kidding. Anyway, the french toast was also very good. They are dog friendly. The wait staff was very nice. Decent prices. Good overall variety of menu items. We were there on a Monday morning and it was not at all busy, but not empty either. The one downgrade is that replacing potatoes with fruit added $5.50, which seems excessive. read more

If you're ever in Cambria for the weekend, this IS the place! The Redwood Cafe is a little difficult to find because it sits in a retail court which is well below street level. However it's worth looking for... The food and service here simply cannot be beat. The eggs are cooked just right and the omelettes are perfect. Many of their dishes use havarti. I had no clue what havarti was until I came here, but it's this really excellent cheese. I simply have to order this now each time I come here. The owners are extremely cheerful, happy and optimistic. I frequently hear them singing or whistling and they treat you like a long, lost family member instead of a stranger. The place is also pet friendly and they will provide water bowls and treats for your furry companions. I highly recommend the Redwood Cafe! read more
