Two visits a couple years apart and nothing has changed. Just like my prior experience, everything from the service to the food, ambiance/views to easy parking were all key in my return. Arriving about 30 minutes before sunset was perfect. The restaurant wasn't crowded yet, so we had several windows to capture the full marina area view. I tried a couple new things this time and was pleasantly delighted. The tropical Ahi was amazing. Definitely will order that again. I very much enjoyed the shrimp and scallops on my fried rice and the presentation, but after several bites the fried rice was to sweet for me. I was there for a Anniversary Wedding event Recently. The venue was beautiful. The service from the bartenders to the waitresses very rude and unprofessional. I know on personal note family is not very happy with the services they received. (I'm like dang can I drink my wine before you take it to the kitchen)! Getting here it's a little pain in the rear end... this is not the restaurants fault, I guess but someone has to talk to the GPS guys and do something about. The place was busy with a wedding and an event so we understood it took a little longer than usual to get us situated, get our water, then wait it place the drinks' order and also wait for the bread lol. However, once we ordered the food, it was fast! Kudos to the kitchen crew! Also it was easy to split the bill between credit cards, cash and 8 girls. Good job our waiter. I'm not sure why I agreed to come here for Mother's Day, but my sister wanted to bring our Mom here, so off we went to their Mother's Day Champagne Brunch. It's located in Long Beach and has beautiful views of the harbor and city buildings in the background. That's about where the "good" ends. The restaurant itself is huge, with several different rooms to accommodate a lot of people. It's obvious that this place is set up for AYCE buffets or large events. Parking can be a cluster, but they do offer valet parking. If you come on Mother's Day, or any major holiday or special event, be sure to make reservations well in advance. I was shocked how many people were there, and it must be due to the AYCE buffet, which wasn't cheap at $57.95 pp, or $25.95 for kids. It does come with unlimited champagne/mimosas, so I was determined to get my money's worth with that! Now on to the food. First they have a huge variety of different foods and cuisines, and it's spread out all over the restaurant in various rooms, which I suppose is a good thing so that everyone isn't all gathered in one area. They had breakfast items in one room - bacon/sausage/eggs bene, etc, the prime rib/turkey/ham/leg of lamb and omelette station outside, the crab legs/shrimp/clams/seafood in another area, sushi, Mexican food, cheese & charcuterie, salads, juices, desserts/pies/donuts, etc. You name it, they had it! The food itself was average at best. I can't think of one item that stuck out as being good. I'm assuming that people come here because they can and want to eat a lot. If you're into quality versus quantity, then do not come here. You will be disappointed. Service was also just average, if not below average. I understand that there was a lot of people that day, but they should've had enough staff to accommodate. Our drinks were rarely refilled and we had to flag them down for the check and other items. THERE IS NO CONSISTENCY, THERE IS NO QUALITY IN THE FOOD. WORST CATERING, NOT WORTH THE VENUE!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY!! The venue was beautiful, and everything was set up nicely. But once we were seated, when the bread and the salad came out we noticed that the bread wasn't enough. There are 9 people at our table and there was only 8 bread. We asked the server for extra because they didn't give us enough and they said no. How embarrassing that they couldn't even provide enough bread that we had to awkwardly leave someone out. I gave my share away, and proceeded to eat the salad. I had finished my salad and wanted to see if they would be able to give me another one since they said no about the bread hoping that they would accommodate. Once again rejected. Then the main course came in, we were all excited to eat. But was disappointed so fast. We got the steak, and it was over cooked and dried out. Practically hard like beef jerky. We are an older crowd, and they expected them to chew through it was unacceptable. I brought it to a servers attention, the server was nice and had brought it to the back. The supervisor came back and they said that there was no extra because they had an exact amount. But it was suspicious because there were a good amount of seats that were empty because people didn't make it last minute. The guy did not offer even bread or salad to accommodate. They didn't care that a lot of us didn't eat. Paid good money for food that you couldn't even eat. Today I went to talk to the rest of the party that sat at other tables. Everyone was very upset on how the catering was. The food quality was below average and was not consistent. Other tables were able to get extra bread after getting the correct amount. Some got extra salad. Some had to fight with the servers. But what was shocking , was that not only our table had dried overcooked meat, but some had it completely raw. Our son and daughter-in-law recently held their wedding ceremony at your beautiful facility in the Pacific Ballroom and Sunset deck. Both of which were perfectly decorated and fully staffed. Many of the things that kept my wife and I up at night were ALL taken care of by the staff. Specifically to the best of my memory Jami, Maria, Hazel and I only remember one of the servers names, Porfiddio all worked so hard to make the day "Perfect". I can use that word because that was the feedback from so many, many of the guests. Perfection is difficult to achieve but we experienced it a the reef on our children's very, very special day. Oh boy. It's been years since I've been back to The Reef, and now I remember why. The Reef is known for their Sunday Champagne Brunch and spectacular views of the Long Beach Harbor. Some of the pros are the Wycliff CA champagne they continuously pour, the Belgium waffles, crab legs, lox station and desserts. However, other items can be a miss like the over-fried, hard chicken that sat being offered the entire 2 hours we were there, the incredibly sweet cappuccino, over-cooked eggs Benedict, plain, steamed shellfish, and unappetizing Mexican dishes and sushi. They had items on a menu such as omelettes, sliders and eggs Benedict that you can order (included in the buffet), but it took a really long time for those dishes to come out and there were errors in a few of our orders. They should consider bringing back the omelette station to minimize errors and wait time. The executive chef personally came out with our corrected dishes and freshly fried, seasoned, succulent chicken. It was really nice of the chef to try to make our experience better, but they should have had that quality from the beginning. It will probably be a while before I return again. You can go to The Reef for brunch which is great (about 55$ a person), you can have a mid range price lunch (I suggest any of the sandwiches), and you have a fine dinning experience. They also have a great happy hour with snacks and sliders. The eatery is lovely. It is large but I suggest a reservation anyway. You can dine inside or out. If the weather is kind, I suggest you sit outside, right next to the water. The Reef is very clean inside and out and the bathrooms are also spotless. The service is just wonderful. You may have to wait a minute to get a seat, but once seated your server knows the menu well and can guide you. We love the fried fish, not the healthiest choice, but fried calamari and fish and chips are so great. They also have fresh fish which is wonderful. We also love their onion rings. This place is right near the Queen Mary and other cute attractions so if you are visiting Long Beach this is one great place to stop at. Have a wonderful time. read more

So we came to brunch to celebrate 3 birthdays, we have not been here in a couple of years and there have been changes. I would like to state I don't mind changes but if you have a two hour limit, you need to make sure your staff is attentive and not disappearing for 39 minutes. The new rules are you have a 2 hour limit,certain. Items have to be ordered fro the wait staff. I had the Bludso's BBQ pop-up at The Reef, today. It was their first day and it was pretty busy. They had delivery and take-out food available with no dining inside. I was thoroughly impressed and satisfied with the experience I received for my 40th birthday event on Saturday, 2/26/22. First off, I can't thank Ms. Nicole Ellis enough for all of her help and effort in helping me plan and coordinate my event. Communication via email and telephone with her regarding the planning of my event was effortless and always prompt. On the day of the event, Reuben, the banquet captain and his staff went beyond my expectations to make my guests and I have a memorable experience. I received many compliments from my guests regarding how delicious all the appetizers and the plated entrees- the filet and the ginger soy salmon were. In addition, the patio view of the Long Beach shoreline during sunset was amazing. My event was in the Bayview Room and patio deck area. The room and the patio area was the perfect setting for an intimate party with close family and friends. For reference, our event had 56 people. I wish there was more seating outside, since the weather is so nice in Long Beach. We mainly had to stand, which was odd. The indoor area was spacious and the food was surprisingly good. They had a fish and steak option, we tried both and both were tasty. They had audio visual capabilities and it was a nicely coordinated event space overall. I would recommend this space for an event. Our niece celebrated her Quince at The Reef on 10/21/2023 in the Pacific Ballroom. My comadre spent a pretty penny booking this establishment, after I advised her not to due to previous bad experiences there as a guest of other parties. The service staff at The Reef were all so very rude. Rolling eyes and letting out loud sighs when asked for something so simple as water refills. Then she walked away as we all sat there in disbelief. Upon sending in the RSVP cards, all guests provided the type of dish to be served. Chicken or Beef and that selection was also on the place cards. Guests were given the wrong items but ate it anyway to avoid complaining to the host, my comadre. When the servers came to our side, of course the bulk of guests were all given chicken and the beef was all gone. Again, we didn't want to complain to our host and ruin her daughters special event. At our table a guest asked about the meat not being what she RSVP'd for and the server slammed the plate down and said WE'RE OUT OF BEEF! When the servers removed the dishes selection cards from the table, they were being snatched and the card holder being tossed back onto the table. This was by far the worst treatment myself and others have received at an event that was once a very prestigious location. When we entered the venue, there had been many upgrades to the hall and lobby area, so I was expecting improvement from the bad experiences in the past. To put an end to the evening, we headed to our car to find our compadres truck window smashed in (parked next to us). The Reef has ZERO security and according to the venues Captain, no cameras. An added point, if you do have an event here, have someone posted at the door! Random people were wandering into the hall and they were guests from other parties in other rooms. If you are going to spend a small fortune to host a special event, so it elsewhere because The Reef is awful. I only gave this 1 star because I had no choice. read more

Here goes 5 staff to all the staff and Michelle M. (Banquet Manager) if I'm not mistaken for doing all our requests and special agreement we had for the menu and space. I initially spoke to her asking for a quote on their smallest private room space. Unfortunately, the total count is way lower than the quoted amount for the said room and it's not ideal to take it. Michelle provided some alternative and worked with me on the menu. She had us stayed at the main dining hall but where we were was somehow private, no other people, and a long table set for all of us. Michelle worked with me as well for making our own menu so it will be controlled and uniform for everyone. She did an amazing job making our personal menu and listed all the foods we selected for the event. I really appreciate all her hard work regardless of how busy the restaurant was at that time. My review is based on Sunday brunches only. We've been here at least 4 times for Sunday brunch now over a 2 year duration. I do remember really enjoying it the very first visit, which led us to come back. The view is breath taking and right on the ocean and that hasn't changed. Although, the food selection could be better, especially for the price ($40 per person with tax, not including gratuity). Service is also just OK. The waiters do make sure that your glass is full with champagne when you are running low, but not once did it feel personable, it's like they are robots. The items I enjoy still are the omelet and pasta bars. The Mexican food area is not very good, the options for kids are "frozen food" options, which sucks if you are actually paying for them. For example, they serve the frozen chicken nuggets, French toast sticks, mini corn dogs, etc. Really? The Reef Restaurant offers upscale American/fusion food with beautiful harbor views. For me, I felt that this is one of those places where you mostly pay for the view. Service was good. Food presentation was great, and the food was good, albeit half the time over-salted. The Dine L.A. menu included a good variety of offerings. $40 for 3 courses, and $15 extra for the wine pairing. DO go for the wine pairing! It's a good deal, plus, the parings that are offered truly go well together. I was part of a group of 4 for dinner, so we were able to pretty much try everything. Our favorites were the spinach and artichoke dip, calamari, blacked swordfish, the prime rib, and the lava cake. Dine LA 2018: We couldn't make it out to the LA area to try some of the restaurants on the list this year. So as a last resort, we selected a restaurant closest to the OC area. The only decent one was The Reef. It's not the greatest but not the worst either. The best part of this restaurant was the LB harbor view. The interior is dim and has a romantic vibe. We took the scenic route through Seal Beach and Belmont Shore to get here. The 710 freeway commute would have been a mess around dinner time. The Reef is located off Queens Way in downtown Long Beach. The drive leading to the restaurant is very curvy and bit hazardous at night. It's near the Hotel Maya by Hilton if you need a landmark to remember. You will need to drive pass there to find the restaurant. The area needs a makeover. We had book reservations via Open Table ahead of time. When we arrived, the hostess said it would be about 5 minutes to get seated. The waiting area is so cozy with a log cabin feel. The chandelier lighting gave it a touch of elegance. There's also a wine display case. Quite fancy! The restaurant seemed empty on a Thursday evening. Many customers chose the patio seating with the view. We were happy with our booth that had an amazing view as well. Our server was decent. He brought us drinks and the bread basket immediately. We chose the entrees from the Dine LA menu. Our dinner choices: *Course1 Appetizer: clam chowder for both. The soup was not bad. It tasted more watered down than creamy. There was a generous amount of clams. No oyster crackers are provided. Just fresh ground black pepper to taste. *Course2 Main entree: Herb roasted prime rib 12 oz served with seasonal veggies and mashed potatoes. The meat was ordered medium rare and still came out so dry. Even with the au jus it failed. The veggies were so salty. The mashed potatoes were blah. The pineapple fried rice was a better option. It's accompanied with grilled shrimp and scallops. The bacon fried rice is served in half a pineapple. Delicious and tasty. * Course3: Dessert: Strawberry bread pudding. Skip this altogether. It was fresh out of the oven and still had no flavor. Not good! Overall, this restaurant is adequate for date night or happy hour drinks. The food is mediocre. The Reef is a waterfront restaurant with a fantastic view just down the road from the Queen Mary. Ok, kinda down the road. Lucky I was not driving, the roads in that part of the harbor is undecipherable. We did finally get there and was seated at a great table overlooking the harbor. While at the same time the rest of the nation was under a deep freeze, it was a sunny afternoon in SoCal. The service was warm and very helpful. I ordered the Shrimp Linguini. The shrimps were huge and plentiful. The sauce was a delicate balance of garlic, olive oil and Italian seasonings. The pasta was al dente but unfortunately there was not much of it. We have come back here a few more times, it seemed I always wanted the views more than the food. The restaurant front is just gorgeous, koi ponds and waterfall are so beautiful. The open views of the Queen Mary, Queensway harbor and Long Beach skyline are just breathtaking. The bar and lounge area has the best views, definitely have a few drinks at the lounge and enjoy the relaxing vibe and views, day or night, it's all amazing. This place is a great choice for special events or occasions too. We like to come here on holiday occasions, Thanksgiving and Easter. They have great selections of holiday buffet food at reasonable prices. For food they focus on meats and poultry, chilled seafood selections are decent, but hot seafood selections are less than impressive. This restaurant is definitely for meat lovers. The service is always on point, all servers are so friendly and attentive, although it gets slow at times cause this is such a huge restaurant, bar and lounge. We decided to celebrate my friend's birthday at the Reef since they have beautiful views of the Harbor! pretty empty on a Sunday night, perhaps this place is mostly for special occasions/celebrations --complimentary bread served with pesto and butter: love that they offer pesto for the bread --crusted mahi mahi: a bit bland but great crusting --crab cakes: the deep fried crust was a bit over-browned --sampler platter: a big GREASY plate of onion rings, spinach dip, calamari and wings (the onion rings were my favorite) yummy but not exactly the best appetizer choice since it's heavy --rib eye: a bit chewy and lacking salt --cheesecake: a rich dessert they were nice enough to bring out for the birthday girl on the house! My Hubby's Christmas party was here this year and sadly we didn't like the service and horrid food. I felt like I was eating dog food. Portions were small and nobody was full or satisfied. You know its BAD when nobody has nothing to say. The only thing that was fine, were the drinks and nice view of the Long Beach shoreline. But thank earth and bartender for that. The whole time we were overlooking the water through large windows during dinner. Ground floor bar area smelled like Mold. I guess we were to loud because some stupid lady kept coming up to us to shut us up. Which made no sense, when there was a LOUD DJ in the ballroom room adjacent to the bar. Hi, I wish I could give no stars. I was very disappointed in the service myself, my fiance, and our wedding planner received at your establishment on Friday, July 31st, 2020 at 2:30 pm. My wedding planner had made an appointment for us to come to take a tour of our upcoming wedding next year. Our appointment was set for 4:00 pm, however, we arrived at 2:30 pm and we were seen by a young woman named Maria Sabrine. Maria greeted us in the lobby and told us what rooms we were going to be viewing. We started the tour by taking stairs to the outside area where potentially the ceremony would take place. When we got to the outside area we noticed here was an elevator and Maria said we have an elevator. ( my thoughts along with my fiance and wedding planner's thoughts were how come we couldn't have taken the elevator up to the area in the first place? why tell us there was an elevator after the fact?) anyhow, we saw the outside which was beautiful. Maria then pointed... not actually taking me in the bridal and showing me around BUT pointed to it. I had to go in and turn on the light myself to take a look around. We were then taken to another room which was closed off because it was being painted or had been painted and the paint was drying. However, we were able to see it. My planner did ask Maria why would your establishment be taking appointments when you are renovating because we were not able to see all the rooms and there were dust and dirt piles on the floor... not very safe. Maria answered by saying since the business is closed that would be a good time to do the renovating. We were done with the tour and we thought were going to sit down and talk about the cost of the venue (mind you my planner had asked what is the cost of the venue was) and what was all included. well....we were wrong!!!! we stood in front of the office and Maria opened the folder that had the dinner menu and the price of the plates. She didn't break down what the cost of the venue was or anything of that nature. My planner asked what the cost of an extra would be and Maria told her it would $750.00!!! FOR ONE EXTRA HOUR??!?!?!?!. My fiance walked out and my eyes got wide and said $750.00 for an extra hour? My planner asked Maria why was an extra hour $750.00? and Maria's reply wasn't very believable. She gave us the folder and we left. I did go back in there and returned the folder. We left The Reef very disappointed. Maria wasn't very personable it gave us the impression that she didn't want to assist us with the tour or anything like that. Her whole vibe was off and it showed. In a time like this, where businesses are being closed due to a nationwide pandemic, I would think that when someone calls your business wanting to potentially have their wedding at your establishment that your event coordinator would be personable, exudes customer service and gives an awesome tour that would have us excited to have our wedding there. It was the total opposite. We will not be back and I will make sure I tell my family and friends about this disappointing experience. My advice to the management team is to definitely train your staff over again... make sure your staff provides a customer service experience to future clients that will want to have their events at your place of business. One star for the view. That's it. Me and my companion both had food poisoning after coming here for Valentine's Day. Seafood tasted sour, and quote on quote rib eye was a piece of low quality flank. 3/4th of the piece is fat. Food was way too salty. Maybe because they are trying to mask the spoiled food's taste. Service sucked and staff shortage is obvious since the server said it right in front of us"I'm not supposed to serve that table". Also, no bread was served. I asked for a glass of water and did not get it until after my entire meal. I will not be coming back here read more

I did very large events both pre and post COVID both were lovely but the food options were too restrictive after COVID. No flexibility. I'm sad to say I wasn't impressed after. For the price, they could do better by allowing a tasting before the event or allow add ones for the side dishes if requested. I might consider them because of the location and view., but not much else. They just don't stand out as they used to. read more
