I had a great time at this restaurant with my girlfriends. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating however is a small enclosed patio. We sat outside due to a long wait for inside seating. Our server was really nice and patient with us as we could not decide what we wanted. Every dish that was being carried out for other tables looked delicious! I am happy to report that the dishes we settled on were also delicious. The wait was a bit long but they were very busy and also you could tell they cook everything to order. The decor is Mexican-flair? It's nice! If I am recalling it correctly the outside patio was painted yellow, which made it bright and cozy at the same time, as it was a warmer yellow. I grew up in this area and after moving away and coming back to visit I am happy that this establishment has found it's way to my old stomping grounds and that it is delicious! read more

This place is a great find. My wife and I ate here a few weeks ago when we were perusing apartments in the area. We're so pleased that we've found a place very close by to this restaurant and to the Fort Washington Avenue area where it's located. We've dined here twice and the food is delicious -- but, truly, the best thing by far are the margaritas! They're delicious, with a healthy pour, and are a wonderful way to sit in their outdoor area and enjoy the beautiful neighborhood. Today, we had two margaritas after picking up our keys to the new apartment and had a wonderful waiter, Raul. He was very kind, funny, pleasant, and provided great service. The wait staff there seems to be a very reliable and professional group of servers and the food and drinks are stellar. Couldn't be more pleased to live in the neighborhood! read more

What can I say...other than I'm full! And completely satisfied! I wanted some Mexican food and I was not disappointed. I didn't eat indoors but the decor was a vibrant yellow. A cool casual atmosphere. Had a pretty friendly vibe to it. So I made a seamless order thinking this was a typical to go establishment. The prices should of clued me in but I was hungry and placed my seamless order in a hurry. Two Chicken Empanadas were about $8, and a Chicken Burrito $13. The empanadas weren't the most flavorful I've had. However, it was packed with chicken and the dipping sauce complimented it well though. The Burrito was hefty. Arrived at Refried Beans and my husband and I were greeted quickly at the door and seated all within a few minutes. Once seated, we were given water, chips and salsa which were delicious. The waitress came to the table, she was very nice and took our order down in quick fashion. My husband ordered a Champagne Margarita and he enjoyed it while I just settled for water as I'm doing Sober January Our appetizer of a Sample Platter came and it was absolutely fantastic with chicken quesadilla, taquitos and chimichangas! For dinner I had a steak fajita and it was great meanwhile my husband had arroz con camarones and when I tell you that it was sooooo good, I preferred it over my fajita. This is a local favorite. It's just a few blocks from my place and is always a go to Mexican place. It has a fun chill environment that is welcoming and relaxing. The servers and bar tenders are always inviting and kind. I have not had bad service yet. I've gotten a couple things here but my favorite is the classic chicken quesadilla. The portions are on the bigger amount so you defiantly get what you pay for. Their salsa is homemade and delicious along with their guacamole. They have a happy hour that offers the best margaritas. I made a reservation on Sunday 7/23/23 for nine people for dinner to be on 7/27/23, at 7pm with the Manager - Rossie. On Monday I made the reservation time 7:30pm, and added an extra person on Wednesday =, when the reservation was still intact. I arrived at 7pm on the said day, found a table set for 10; spoke to a "burly" guy greeting guests - gave him my name with the reservation details, and was very rudely informed that I had no reservation. The reservation was for another female with a mobile # starting with 917. The restaurant itself is very small, with a seating capacity of 20 people at the max. The "burly" guy called the Manager (on her mobile) who told me that I had cancelled the reservation. When I denied that, as above - she changed her story to say that one of the other employees had made a reservation for another group, without asking Rossie permission. Apparently only the Manager had the power to make reservations for the restaurant. By this time, some of my guests had arrived, I told them to remain in the car, while I went across the Street to Kismat an Indian Restaurant. I did get a table for 10 people here, without much ado, and the dinner was enjoyed by all. I received a text on Friday from the Manager, to call her mobile #, which I did. She was very apologetic about the situation, and tried to appease me with offers for future use. I informed her that I don't think I'll come back (there are other Mexcian restaurants closer to my neighborhood in Inwood, with better service.) Also that luck in the form of a neighboring restaurant, was on my side & I was able to avoid an embarrassing situation by getting service there. read more

Dropped by on a Friday afternoon after checking out Fort Tryon Park. Note to visitor, check out the park after because the portion you'll get is going to have you waddling out. The salsa and chips were a hit and we ordered a second thing. Definitely homemade. The onions in there were chunky so that lent an extra crunch I liked. We got lunch specials of ceviche, steak tacos and a steak burrito. The ceviche came with a chili seasoning which I actually enjoyed, different from the typical ceviche I've had in the past. Very disappointed that they don't care about the neighborhood. I live a few blocks from this place was practically hit on the sidewalk by one of their delivery guys in a motorized bike. I asked him to get off the sidewalk and instead of moving to the street he kept pushing me back with his bike. These bikes in sidewalks are extremely dangerous - especially in a neighborhood with many children and elderly. Food is pretty good and restaurant is nice, typical 3 star. I had the 'Enchilada Suizas' (chicken) and I thought my dish was tasty. The portions were more than expected, I couldn't finish. As a drink, I had the Caipirinha which was alright but I've had better. The guacamole was excellent. They also have tv screens with sports games on. The staff was incredibly attentive. Typically, Mexican restaurants are relatively cheap but our meal was about $70 for two, which is a little steep for what we got. That's not including dessert and just 1 drink each. I would suggest going during happy hour between 4-7pm. Other than that, I'll probably come back here at some point but I can cook a better meal for less than third of the price, which was my original plan. Oh well, lesson learned. read more

I've been meaning to check this place out for a few years now, and I finally came for dinner with a friend. Upon entry, I noticed this place was very dim which gave me the "couple's dinner" vibe. The staff wasn't the most attentive, but they weren't the worst, either. I went with the steak quesadilla as I didn't want a large meal. Turns out, the quesadilla is huge and I couldn't even finish it. It's priced around $11, so you definitely get what you pay for, but it isn't too tasty. It tastes dry and rarely had any cheese- the steak was the only thing that saved it. I also had the piña colada as my beverage of choice and it was pretty good. Definitely check this place out. It's nestled at the quaintest part of Washington Heights up the hill on Fort Washington. I always get the appetizer platter for food, which you can get with chicken, beef or veggie. It comes with tostadas, quesadillas and chimichangas and fills you up just enough. What's the best though are the margaritas. The jalapeño margarita is to die for but the frozen specialties such as the Frida Kahlo are also excellent. I often stick a corona in but that's not necessary. There's plenty enough flavor without it. Peruse the variety of selections. When I eat in, the service here is enjoyable. Unfortunately, delivery has been like pulling teeth. After ordering on an obviously busy night, I knew it would take a while to get my food, which I was fine with. Projected delivery time was an hour. The order sat in grubhub saying it was being prepared for almost two hours. I called to check in, and I was told it was taken by the delivery person who had just left. After waiting 45 min and not having received anything, I called again. After they shuffled me around to different people, it turns out the food was never made. They then said they would make it. After an additional 30 min, that order finally arrived. But then after investigating what had been delivered, the dinner for two that I ordered only had one person's order. My food was completely missing. I called back to see if it had been made. They weren't sure but said it may have been put in someone else's delivery, and the kitchen had now closed so they couldn't make anything else. When asked if they could contact the delivery person and see if he still had it, they said they would and let me know. I waited another 20min without receiving an update and then called them back. They said there was nothing that could be done and they would refund me the money for the burrito. So after 3 and half hours of being given the run around, it's 10pm, my partner has dinner and I have some chips and guac to nibble on. While I understand mistakes happen, and I have lots of sympathy for restaurant workers during this crazy time... it was the lack of care to make up for their error after I had waited two hours for my initial order that really has upset me. No extra care was put in to make sure they corrected their error, and instead they made more errors with my re-order. This was extremely poor service and was an absolute nightmare to deal with tonight. Do NOT recommend for delivery. read more

Refried Beans is our second home. We absolutely LOVE this place and all of the staff who work here (including Arnold, Ramiro, Joan, and Yvelisse)! We celebrate every birthday and New Year's Eve here--and during COVID their delivery has been a lifesaver for fun dinners at home.
