i have been an avid rei supporter for atleast 10 years. this one in particular has risen above and beyond my expectations. don't let the smaller size fool you. i have yet to be disappointed in the personal recomendations and the staff has recieved my reviews well. as for the inventory...i find that it is more than adequate for the average person needing outdoor gear. if they don't have it, the staff is willing to transfer or have it delivered. read more

I wanted to purchase a handheld GPS unit for hiking. The gentleman that helped me, Bruce, was fantastic. He appeared to have just ended his shift but stayed to help me select the right unit for me. Bruce went out of his way to explain how the different units work and answer all of my many questions, he then explained which maps they had and he gave me a current listing of the classes offered by REI - two of which teach you how to use your GPS (or one of theirs). One class was a lecture and the other was at Hidden Falls in Auburn - a hands on opportunity to use your GPS in the field - how awesome is that? I am a member of their co-op and was able to purchase all new snow gear for nearly 50% of the cost, thanks to my dividend :) REI is a one-stop shop for outdoor enthusiasts - I've bought running, camping, hiking and kayaking gear, clothing, books, etc. I'm a fan. read more

This REI is much bigger than the one in Folsom, but smaller than the one in the Sacramento ghetto.

I am a believer of REI in general. However, I wish this store would move two doors down to the empty HUGE vacant building. Then it could have as much inventory as their home store in Seattle and I wouldn't have to fly there once a year! Seriously, I wish they would consider it! Need more clothing and shoe choices. A larger children's section. Larger baggage and luggage....... A bigger everything! Please!! read more

This review pertains specifically to the REI Outdoor School. My husband and I went on a snowshoe hike this past Sunday that was organized by the REI Outdoor School and had an amazing time. This was our second snowshoe hike ever, but I think we are getting a bit better at it each time we attempt the activity. This is thanks in part by the helpful and knowledgeable staff that the REI Outdoor School provides. Our instructors (Cathy and Christa) were both very patient and offered good advice and information about the area that we took our hike in, as well as technique. Christa in particular was great in not making me feel like the "slow poke" that I knew I was on the trail. Even if the guys went on ahead, she trailed back with me, and also offered great insight about the trees in the area, as well as animal tracks and bird life. Even if I was the "slow poke", my husband and I still had a great time. We would definitely consider scheduling another event through the REI Outdoor School again. read more

This is a very clean and we'll kept store. The staff here are very knowledgeable and pleasant to talk to. If God doesn't have an answer, most likely an REI employee does. Other than that, their store is well stocked with higher quality gear. The Sacramento store does have a bigger selection. read more

REI is about as good a retailer as you will ever find. Their service is top notch. They always seem to hire helpful, patient, and most of the time very knowledgeable employees. Are their prices the best? No. If you decide to shop around, you can find better prices. If you want the latest/trendy styles, you might not find that at REI either. However, you can find quality outdoor gear to suit just about any activity you have in mind. Closeout sales can produce some nice finds. REI's return policy is unquestionably the best of any retailer. Seems like you can return anything for any reason. The yearly dividends are nice too. read more

Came here to exchange some gloves that tore where the soft squeegee is and they deferred to dakine when these are brand new worn three times. I've spent a lot of money at this place until I found Clark's snow sports down the road who is much less expensive and customer service and employees are awesome. Julie the manager was rude and they just lost all my biz which is why I just bought a brand new board boots and bindings from Clark's today. Also getting my sons stuff there. read more

I have been going to REI as long as the Seirra Club has been around. Once you are in the store, you cannot help but buy something. anything, even if it is only Outdoor Magazine or a Power Bar. I wonder if everyone who shops here is really all that active. some of the people dont look like they do much in the way of recreation. Okay, i will stop being my judgemental self. They are a well stocked store. I love the selection of KEEN Shoes they have. I just bought a pair of backless bright orange Keens. They are fast becoming a fashion statement. I like to look at all of the backpacking food they carry. I cant imagine eating some of this stuff. REI used to be in Berkley and SF. That was about it. Hippies and back to nature types have been shopping here like forever. The shoe department comes equipped with a smal rock to climb on to test the grip of the hiking shoe. I think i need one of these in my house. I tired to sneak my dog in here. i got all the way around the store , and was informed at the registar that he could not go shopping with me. Too late, we just did.We were not happy campers, but understood, we cleaned up our caomsite and hit the trail. Overall, great place, lots of history and very Bay Area feel to it. read more

Fabulous location. I'm from the Bay Area and stopped in here on the way to Reno for thanksgiving. If you make it through to Roseville you are safe from traffic so we decided to check this place out. I needed a new pair of shoes and some insoles for my old(ish) ones. The ladies in the shoe area were amazing. They were friendly and knowledgable. They didn't seem to mind that I needed to try on a few sizes and a few different shoes before I made a decision and they let me wear them all around the store while I decided...they also didn't seem to mind that my 2 year old rode around on a bike while I did all this (with his dad). Great store and a great location. It's not as large as some others but there is plenty of parking. read more

I have been going to REIs for more than a decade and love the store. The Roseville store is small (as has been said many times before) compared to other stores I have lived near in the past. That said, this is still a good store. I have visited a number of times in the past couple months and the staff has been very helpful. They were our of stock on a GPS I wanted, but the people we still very helpful and went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied. A+ service. B- for size and selection. read more

I went in this evening looking for hiking boots....I know NOTHING about hiking boots at all but wanted to start expanding my horizons. Spencer in the shoe department was AWESOME!!! He was so patient and explained everything about the different types of boots and what they're best for. He even taught me how to tie them so I get they maintain the proper fit. we have shopped here for years and have always had good experiences and friendly customer service. The other night we were looking to buy some bikes and we had a poor experience with an employee who judged my Hubby based on his appearance and talked down to him in a disrespectful way... the experience definitely put a bad taste in our mouth, but it was absolutely out of the norm for what we had experienced @ rei in the past. We had to go back to get some booties for our dog's injured feet and decided to look @ the bikes again... After some time had passed in the bike section a man named Ken asked us if we needed any help...we did and we were so glad that Ken offered. He was genuine, friendly, informative and kind. He was such a breath of fresh air compared to our previous experience the night before and he reaffirmed for us why we shop @ rei. The lack of service here was outstanding. I came in looking for hiking boots but I was never helped nor was I greeted when I walked in. The man in the shoe section saw me but never bothered to ask if I needed help. Instead he went to help other people in a completely different section. I tried to approach him because i wanted to try on these boots, but he just walked straight to the back even though we had eye contact. I will probably never be going back. read more

We received amazing customer service, and the gentleman in the shoe department really knew his stuff. He recommended the perfect pair of shoes for both of us, explained why they were the perfect shoes, and offered insight for other needs that we might have for the race. Every time I go here I feel like I am a football player carrying the ball and ready to be tackled by the sales persons. But then I read a review where someone couldn't find anyone to help them. Maybe it's me? Am I the lucky one? I actually enjoy looking around and making a decision on what I am actually wanting to purchase. So I came in here for my birthday and wanted a rain jacket to run and also bike in, I decided to get a biking jacket to run in and bike in. Because well it's super bright, water proof, and had the breathable arm pits that I need because even though it's raining and cold, I am running 8 miles outdoors up here in the mountain. Well, the guy kept trying to talk me out of buying the jacket because he kept saying it was for biking. I felt almost pressured to get another jacket, so I tried to escape 'dun dun dun' oh no... another sales person heading my way, our eyes lock, I try to make the run, but it's too late. They are headed right for me. Okay; I won't complain. It's nice to have someone help you, but you know not try to persuade you to purchase the one (they think is best). In the end, I was like hiding behind the rack and right as dude looked away, I grabbed the jacket I really wanted in the first place and made a run for the cashier. FYI: The jacket was FANTASTIC for running in the rain with my Belgium Malinois running partner Princess Leia in her running rain doggie jacket beside me in perfect heel. I also purchased some snowboarding boots online and they didn't fit me right, brought them back here and got cash back within (seconds). They do have awesome returns policy and gear. But since I have to make a run for it every time I am trying to browse, I feel uncomfortable every time I shop here. read more

I came here to browse for backpacking gears...backpack, sleeping bag, tent, hiking boots, etc. Over priced but I'm giving four stores for very helpful friendly staff. Becky in the shoe dept was awesome! While I wasn't in a rush, I had time to observe her help multiple customers while two other staff sort of stood around. She was very knowledgeable with how the boots should fit, wearing the suggested boots and going through a test with them on. We tried on five different pairs of boots, did the test, and unfortunately I didn't find one that fit me well. I also had a very helpful gentleman (forgot his name) in the backpack area, he helped me get fitted for a backpack after narrowing down some questions as to how many days I'll be backpacking and what I will be carrying to determine the size of the backpack. The store does have a large selection of merchandise, clean and organized display. read more

Came from El Dorado Hills to this store. The store hours on the website and at the doors states closing time at 7PM. But they locked the door at 6PM. I called an employee and asked why are they closing early, he just said" funny this sign says 7pm ", with no further explanation . This was frustrating in a total disregard to peoples time. read more

I specifically called to verify that they had Yakima bars and endcaps. Once I got there, no endcaps. That's why I called ahead people. Don't try to argue about my not needing endcaps because they come with the towers. And if I "don't really need endcaps" then why bother making them at all? Customer service training all around on me this time. I don't think anyone noticed though. read more

I love this store but the service in this one was absolutely terrible. I was looking for their GoPro Camera accessories and I walked around the entire store at least three times. I was in the store for at least half an hour, stopping to look at different products in the store since I am in love with the idea of camping and using all of the gadgets that they have in the store. Within that half an hour of looking around and making it obvious that I was searching for something specifically, not one employee came and asked if I needed help or anything. It wasn't busy by any standard when I went in to the store. Most of the employees were just standing around talking to each other instead of helping the customers. This is a great store if you know what you need and where exactly it is located in the store, otherwise, don't expect any help if you come into this REI. I ended up finding the accessories that I needed on my own but refused to spend money here because of the horrible service that I had experienced. read more

It is an outdoorsy person toy store. This place is evil. (Evil in a good way :) The staff are particularly persuasive, helpful, and useful at the sports, and activities which the gear is used for. They really do their job well because I usually walk out of this place with something I probably didn't necessarily intended on purchasing, but somehow I willed and convinced myself that I needed. But the stuff here is superb, high quality, durable good stuff. And even though I manage to just want a simple lamp, or a simple tool, I can't help but walk out with something "necessary" or something I "might" need...eventually. HA. Okay...it might be an issue of my own will power versus the actual quality of the store and it's products. Anyway...this place outfits me with the necessary gear, and I will continue to frequent this place as long as I have the ability to enjoy camping, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, and traveling. Thank you REI for helping me do my part to stimulate the economy. Oh bonus is the dividend I get to spend at the end of the year. YAY! read more

I went to the REI today to find some shoes. I was approached by the sales associate in the shoe department and she seemed very rushed and very uninterested in helping me find a proper pair of shoes I had specific shoes in mind so I asked for them in my size 1st she brought me the wrong size so I ask to please bring me the correct size. She was very annoyed that we were asking for shoes. I also saw the same lady whistle at another customer when she go her shoes and was saying come on come on like she was a dog I purchased a pair of shoes but I almost feel like returning them just for the simple fact of how they treated us. We are members of REI and we use them a lot but I feel like I probably won't be returning. read more

Today was my fourth time in this Roseville store. Each time I think the service will be better but for some reason I am not impressed with their customer service. Today I was looking at a pair of Teva's and after waiting for a clerk to finish with a customer I began to ask him if they had a particular size. He made eye contact with me but continued to walk into the back room completely ignoring me. This trip convinced me not to shop here anymore. I can go online to the brand I want and do just as well without the insulting service. Bye REI, if you lose you job because business is slow you have no one to blame but yourselves. read more

There are undoubtedly places you can get outfitted for an outdoor adventure for less, but I love the expert advice from the REI staff. We recently needed help getting the right gear for my son to go on a snowshoeing trip, and we would have been lost - and probably spent a lot more time and money getting the wrong stuff - if we hadn't been helped by Roberta. She helped us find everything we needed, and my son stayed dry and warm. One of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. Thank you, Roberta and REI!! read more

I'm never going to Rei again...They need to take a lesson in customer service. If they want to truly leave an impression on customers in a good way they need to step it up. I was told that since I had no receipt they would not return the items I purchased...it had tags from rei on it and I definitely didn't steal it. Then I was told if I were to purchase the membership for $20 they would give me store credit. What a bait and switch. I then called the customer service line and was even more irritated. The lady I spoke with was the rudest person ever and cut me off multiple times. They also said that multiple customers have complained about this and apparently that's still not enough to even take a look at a solution. I hope they eventually listen to the people that keep the lights on before the lights go off...very unhappy Facebook here I come!!! read more

I frequent this store often for a variety of needs. All the employees are always happy and willing to help! I had a tent that needed to be replaced, they accepted it with no problem and let me replace it for another one that they recommended. I bought my boyfriend a knife that was faulty when taken from the package, and we exchanged it easily as well. I have been to some used gear sales here that I have gotten some killer deals at as well! When I crashed my mountain bike (which I had bought here also) I brought it in after I kept hearing a clicking noise when I switched gears even though it was a smooth transition. They fixed it right up for me no charge since it was still within the first year I had purchased it! Great customer service. I will continue to make this store my first stop whenever I am in need of any gear or clothing. read more
