I love this REI, they always have everything you need and the store itself is always kept clean and organized. They have the best products, and if you can't find it in store then it will definitely be online. I bought some snowboarding boots last year online from REI, and I've had trouble with pains in my feet from the boots being too tight. Someone from REI told me about heat molding to eliminate that problem. So I brought my boots back after about a year, and the associate that I want to give a shout out to, Glen, assisted me with getting that done. He not only guided me through it, but you can tell that he really cared about my needs. He ensured I was doing it correctly, asked me questions about the pain, told me about a new offer that members have that I didn't know before, and he taught me about boots and liners... information you can't find anywhere else. He was the sweetest and it's because people like him I will continue my member ship with REI and be a loyal customer! I dropped mine off for what they call a full service and when I went to pick it up they said it was all ready to go, so I rode it and it was in worse condition than it was before! My derailer wasn't properly aligned, the brakes weren't bled correctly, and it's making a squeaking noise that it didn't make before. I do not recommend this place for anyone trying to service their bike!!! read more

I love this place! I wish all businesses were as focused on customer service as REI is. I honestly don't mind the higher prices and don't price compare their stuff to online because they add so much value, I feel like I'd be ripping THEM off if I bought online. Every time I've been in here, I've had great service and a great experience. Even when there's a long checkout line, they move people through quickly and open extra registers. The staff here is always friendly and very knowledgeable as many of them are campers/hikers themselves. Best yet, returning something here is painless. Like all REIs, this store is clean, well-lit, huge, and well organized and you will always find something you never knew you needed to add to your outdoor lifestyle. I've been going to this location for several years now and being a part of their co-op membership, only $20 lifetime, has its perks such as dividend rewards and member exclusive coupons. Being a lover of outdoors, a majority of my camping, hiking and backpacking gear have been purchased from this very location or online for convenience sake. I've even picked up clothing, shoes, and gear for snowboarding here. They've got great selection for any needs and because of REI, I discovered many personal "essentials" I cannot live without. I love adding to our camping collection, but it can get dangerous as were always looking to upgrade. I enjoy perusing this store and most everyone is friendly. They are always busy, especially on weekends, but always eager to help. The garage sale is not as great as the Huntington Beach location, from what I hear from my camping buddies. Either way, I didn't really have any issues with this location. With COVID, you can certainly expect a line to go in and in the shoes section, which of course is of the safety of everyone. I appreciate the spacing, how they monitor the lines so that these safety measures are in place. However, I do think it's still too many people inside. Even curbside pickup is a breeze! But, after a few trips during COVID, the friendly, approachable staff is wearing thin. Whether you're frustrated with how busy it is, or the heat, or cause COVID, I was very disappointed during Labor Day weekend. The return line went smoothly until Alec was the staff member and immediately had a poor attitude. I was polite with my words and body language. I was returning 4 items, all that could be looked up via the membership. That pissed him off there were no receipts. Like literal hissy fit, talking under his breath. Then, when asked the reason for return, items were not used by the way, he still questioned everything and opened up each item(perfectly in original packaging) and slammed those products on the counter. Being aggressive with the products the way he tore the box open. I went with a bigger cup, so yes I'm returning the smaller one. I kept an orange paracord, so I don't need this black one. Hissy fit. Again, being kind to answer truthfully, not giving in to his bs. The way he handed the receipts back was like he just lost a bet and to forfeit his $5 winnings. Just shoved it in your hand. Lastly, I kindly asked that he toss the box I brought in to carry my 4 items in, he literally threw it behind him. I just about had it, but Still said thank you. No other words from him. Sorry, kid, you work retail, maybe this job isn't for you. A lady, maybe the shift lead, asked him twice if he was okay. With a sigh, he said he had to look up the items one by one. This. Is. Your. Job. And shame on the shift lead for allowing such a culture. So, I'll continue to buy online. I don't do returns often, and don't abuse their return policy by sending back used crap. It's especially nice if you do the online shopping because you can pick it up at an REI store and not have to pay for shipping! WooHoo!!! Everyone is always nice and friendly and they know what they are talking about. I only came for some bike accessories ... needed one of those under the seat pouches...and they had an abundant amount for me to pick from!!! YEAH! I'm hoping to go on a small camping trip (never been camping, besides sixth grade camp when I was little) so I think I'll be coming here again to grab some other equipment. I swear, REI has a strange cult following. Everyone I know remotely outdoorsy shops exclusively here. I totally get it though. REI sells not just outdoor gear, but really try to sell a certain lifestyle. I kinda feel like people have something to prove by mentioning they shop at REI. All that aside, I totally get it. As soon as you walk in, they make you feel so welcomed. Service: The workers here are very nice and easy to talk to. They are always happy to answer your questions. I find they are also knowledgeable, or if they don't know the answer, they find someone who does. Parking: It can be difficult to get a spot near the front of the entrance, but the parking lot is so huge that there are plenty of spots available. Side story: So I'm just getting into hiking and I needed a pair of boots. I knew that I have peculiar feet, aka wide and short like duck feet. When the shoe people measured my feet, they knew it would be a challenge for me to find the right boot. They didn't make me feel self conscious (not that I was) about it at all. I spent a total of 8 hours over the span of 3 days trying to find the right boot. Not once did they complain or looked annoyed of me asking to try on hundreds of boots. I can buy my brother's camping and fishing gear, my husband's running and skiing apparel, and the kids' clothing for cold weather and snow, all at REI. And, for me, I love shopping for yoga and exercise clothing here. Shouldn't the girls look as good as, if not better than, the guys when we're working out? Well, of course we should! I missed the winter sales at REI this year and had some serious shopping to make up for. This store was very clean and organized. But really stopped me in my tracks were all the clearance racks! They had some really great, newly marked down clothing everywhere! I felt like I had won the lottery. Wow, husbands are tough to shop for! Needing some serious help finding sizes, a very polite salesperson showed me some very nice shirts and jackets. Since my husband already has great ski gear (from here, of course!), I decided on buying some t-shirts and a couple of Patagonia and Kuhl button-up shirts. I felt like I got some great shirts at some even better prices! I was so amazed by all the great stuff for women as well. Kuhl, North Face, and Mountain Hardwear jackets and shirts all in my size and on sale! Yay! I think I will be getting myself a couple of Christmas gifts early this year. Other than the older women who followed me around the store because she thought I had a jacket that was perfect for her granddaughter (sorry, but my jacket wasn't the extra-small you needed!), my shopping experience was blissful. Marketplace's REI is huge! This Tustin location has an enormous bike, golf, and clothing selection. You'll probably find whatever you need for outdoor or sporting equipment here. The prices are no secret and that's because most of the products here are pretty good quality and last a long time. I personally like their clothing and shoe brands so I shop here. REI has a specific policy for online pick-up and store return -- its no secret. I have no problem with it except that the staff here seem very rude and scarce. It took a couple laps around the store to find store help because I had a question. The staff didn't really know where the armband-cellphone holders were and when we finally found it, they just left without trying to help me look for exactly what I needed. Terrible customer service. Not coming back. I went in to return a Christmas gift and let me be more specific, I went in to exchange sizes. They told me that since I didn't have a receipt that they would only return if I paid an extra $10.00, which is the price the item is currently at. Mind you, the tags were attached and everything. They had a pretty stuck up and indignant attitude. It's not like I was asking for something different entirely. REI should definitely explain their return policies a little more clearly when you are buying gifts. I would never go to this location again and I highly recommend that you do not either. Recently opened, this place trumps its old location off the 55 freeway. Before this shop was IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND, but now it's in a beautiful new suit with plenty of room for inventory AND customers, whereas before, you felt crammed inside some pack rat's garage. Rotating inventory is impressive given the fact that it's seasonal. Year-round inventory offers plenty of selection and the stockrooms hold a trove of goodies, so if you don't see what you want on the floor, don't hesitate to ask what's in the back. Customer service is lacking but when you do manage to find someone, they're usually pretty upbeat. read more

Suddenly I want to go camping and kayaking, all because of this store! Hmmm....maybe. We don't have an REI in Hawaii so this is the first time I've been in one of their stores, although I've heard of the brand. This store is located in the Marketplace and is huge. There's tons of parking in front of the store. They have a huge selection of gear for all your outdoor needs. I came to look for hiking shoes and they had a good selection of shoes ranging from waterproof to trail runners. Customer service was great, they were very knowledgable and helpful. The salesperson helped me decide between a pair of Merrells and Salomons (got the Salomons since they were water resistant and light). They have a great membership program that you should look into if you shop here a lot. Lifetime membership is $20 and gets you a 10% dividend based on what you spent at the end of the year, special events and offers and it makes returns easier. I will definitely come back when I need new hiking shoes or anything else for the great outdoors. read more

Lots of parking this is a huge one story store compared to the Manhattan Beach 2 story. I liked the layout lots of workers around asking if you need any help, checkout was fast and friendly. I can't believe I haven't yet written a review about this store! Maybe it's because I am constantly getting annoyingly excellent service every time I come here. Every. Single. Time. Where I used to live, Adventure16 was more convenient - this is back when the store actually existed in Orange County - so I didn't go to the inaccessible REI store when it was located off the 55 freeway. The first time I went to REI was after their move to the current Tustin Marketplace location. I was looking for a man purse to lug around my ridiculously oversized Macbook Pro. I just couldn't find a simple laptop bag that wasn't uncomfortable. The size of the store and the amount of stuff in it was simply overwhelming. This store has everything an outdoor enthusiast could ever want! Seriously. EVERYTHING! One of the guys in the green vest did find me, and - acting as my sherpa - guided my safely to the backpack section, where I ended up with a bright orange Patagonia half mass messenger bag. It was the right size, it held everything, and it was very unlikely that I could ever lose it anywhere. I liked the bag so much that I'm on my second one (I got a new laptop, so ... new purchase, right?). The customer service was so great, that I started shopping for everything there. I wasn't 'outdoorsy' so much as I was a weekend warrior who would hike or kayak whenever I could. Now I can hike, camp, climb, bike, and travel anywhere outdoors with the utmost confident in my gear - almost all of which I picked up at REI. The staff is excellent. The clothing I've purchased has always been exactly what I needed for where I was going. The shoes - mostly Keen, Merrel, Timberland, and the occasional Danner - are spectacular, and last forever. Unless they don't; in which case I've had to return them. REI used to have a lifetime return policy, which even I could see was something that the unscrupulous could have exploited. When they changed the policy I was a bit apprehensive. The gear is expensive. If it fails after a year, you're SOL as far as returns go. Then again, I've only had a single pair of shoes fail outside the one-year warranty, so the merchandise that REI carries is top-shelf. I've seen reviews here from people who have been hassled for their returns, and I think that maybe they're just doing it wrong. I haven't been hassled. Ever. The worst thing about REI is that the damned company has made me healthier and far more robust. I've hiked more and done more adventuring now than I ever did when I way younger and in better shape (it ain't the age, it's the mileage, right?). I've hiked Mount Whitney. I've done the Six Pack of Peaks. I've hike parts of the JMT. I'm a PCT section hiker- before REI I wouldn't have even KNOWN what "PCT" meant without using Google. I've gone camping in places I never would have gone before I became a card-carrying member of REI. I'm even volunteering in state parks, helping out with search and rescue, and attending more outdoor events than off-roading events nowadays (I'm big into Jeeps...). The staff has never steered me wrong. They have always been helpful, knowledgable, and know what they're doing. I've been to classes taught at REI and see the same staffers leading the classes. It's a good feeling to know that they guys you're buying from are guys that actually go out and USE the stuff. Every experience I've had at REI has been terrific. It was a Friday and I had a marathon to run on Sunday where the weather forecast was for near 100 degree weather. So I stopped in here after work to pick up a cooling scarf for the race. An employee was able to direct me to the location in the store where I would be able to find the item. The cashier was friendly and I was in and out of there in no time flat. There's plentiful parking at this location. REI always seem to have the most helpful employees. It's probably a requirement to work there. This location was no exception. I've been to this particular store a number of times already. They have alot of great outdoor stuff. However if you're looking for climbing gear or climbing shoes, I would check out the Gear Coop or other online websites. For shoes I'd go to the Evolv store (or wait for their annual parking lot sale) or the 5.10 store. The stuff at REI is great, but often not at the most competitive prices. The annual dividend, parking lot sale, and member discount sales are a great time to pick up those much desired items. Pretty much if you're an outdoor enthusiast, when you walk into an REI (any REI) you want to buy everything (even stuff you don't need). Yeah I could use a camp chair, dehydrated beef noodles - check!, portable toilet system - GIVEME!, -4C sleeping bag - why not?, Thule bike rack - I'd be foolish not to pick up two! This REI location is located in The Market Place (on the same side as Best Buy and Total Wine & More). Who doesn't love REI? My husband and I decided to just come in here after we were at Best Buy to browse. On the day of our visit (this past Saturday), the whole store was having a winter clearance throughout the store. Unfortunately the jacket that my husband really liked was not in the right size, so we ended up buying anything and leaving empty handed. I do want to mention that all of the employees we saw in the store had something hanging from the back of their green vests. Some of those things we saw included a cute little stuffed animal and carabiners (those things used by rock climbers... often times people have something similar on their key chains to hold their keys). I thought that was kind of interesting to see what each person had as we walked throughout the store (so be sure to look out for that the next time you come). read more

I like REI in general, even though they can be a bit pricey. I have been a member for decades. This review relates to their process for buying shoes. I have now been waiting in line for an hour (after waiting in line to get in). I have no idea when I will actually be able to try the shoes on that I came here for. You are not allowed to look at any shoes on your own. You have to sit in a square and just have them bring them to you. This is a terrible process. I know about what I like, and like to look since I have to drive so far to get here. The salesperson told me "that is not the way they do things here". There are only four people helping customers, and there is one person who has been trying on shoes for over an hour, so the line barely moves. Overall, this was a very bad experience. read more

Would have shouted out those who helped us but they don't have name tags? Although we did leave with a pair we liked (out of the choices provided), we noticed that staff were disappearing and we were left on our own. (Not sure if it was because we were there for some time) Had done some research prior however expected more insight from the staff in regards to making comparisons. Also thought that REI would be more like a "Nordstrom" in the outdoor/athletic/sport department but found that I've enjoyed better experiences in other smaller chain stores instead. read more

Member Since 1993. Very Unsatisfied in the way REI has cut back on customer care over the years. My wife was never "100% Satisfied" with the bike I purchased for her only being available in one size and the color she wanted was out of stock but we still kept the bike and made it work. REI rarely discounts bikes anymore and after waiting forever and that never happening I proceeded with the purchase of the bike for my wife. So you can understand my frustration to see not very long after the initial dissatisfaction of the bike purchase of course now that brand of bike is now being discounted. I would have thought I could get a credit back especially if it was with in the supposed "1 year" "100% satisfaction guaranteed return or exchange". Need less to say I found out that's not the case. During a call with the store manager regarding the dissatisfaction of the bike I purchased for my wife and asking for some kind of credit back and It was explained to me by the manager since we're past the 14 day price adjustment period we don't qualify for a credit. She also stated to do a return even though we are with in the "1 year 100% Satisfaction return or exchange" period, as she put it, "it isn't in the Spirit of the Co-Op". Which means they really don't stand behind everything they sell and it really doesn't matter if you are not "100% satisfied with your purchase", you can't always exchange or return even if it's within the "1 Year" period from purchase. I wasn't even trying to return or exchange, I was merely asking for a credit back from the difference between sale and purchase price whether it be monetary or store credit. I have to say the "Spirit" of the co-op has definitely changed in the last 30+ years I've been a member. There was a time when you could get a prorated or even full refund for a return item years later after purchase. To me it makes no sense to have a "100% Satisfaction Guarantee" if you're not going to stand behind it and the nerve of the manager to tell me "it's not in the spirit of the co-op to return the bike". There is absolutely no reason why I should be denied a return or exchange for an item that's with in the "1 Year - 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" period, no reason whatsoever!!! read more

Usually always a positive experience here but after re-opening in store shopping I think some employees are getting stretched thin. But Chris in shoes was going above and beyond even when there were 8 people behind waiting in line to try on shoes. Not only did this man help my pick the right shoe but he just brought out ones he knew would be good and I ended up leaving with a shoe I didn't know I wanted but love! Thanks man. I was very clear about having only borrowed packs too small for myself (I'm 6'4" and borrow small packs but need medium typically) but the seasoned employee who helped me that day Ed ted or whatever was a bit stand off-ish and rude. I am brand spanking new to overnight hiking and expressed I wanted non flashy colors and he genuinely just said he was confused and got quiet. Okay I thought and then continued to try on packs only to be laughed at for picking up a small and not a medium. Cherry on top was being corrected on the fact that they come in sizes and ARENT adjustable. Well Ed ted or whatever since masks make it hard to make out verbal communication next time (2) people are about to spend $500 on backpacks let alone after discount and EXPLAIN its their first pack and don't know anything maybe treat it as such. If it was not for their sale I 100% would have just bought directly from the company we went with for our packs. Also chill on the upsells guys; or restructure your sales training REI it's worse than a big box gym during winter. Literally makes me want to buy LESS haha. But overall ending on the shoes left me happy and I'll just have to stick to garage sales and their online outlet. read more
