Had a hot water line burst in my bathroom that destroyed my floor vents, HVAC system and caused plenty of other issues. Preston and his son came out and were life savers! They installed a new water heater and HVAC ducting in no time. Their attention to detail was so amazing I had them come back to do a full bathroom restoration. what a great and pleasant service. had a problem with facet and pipe at my apartment. He showed up on time, was equipped, and had his own PPE and shoe cover. He was very clear that he will try to figure out what's wrong first and then try to fix it, and fixing may not be the same day. Luckily he was able to fix it. He made a very quick trip to home depot and fixed the issue on the pipe. He cleaned the sink to the best he can before leaving. I recommend him highly. read more

I manage an 80 unit senior housing complex with forced air furnaces located in very small crawl spaces above the garden walkup units. We have used Preston's Plumbing & Heating for the past 10+ years and found out that he and Tamara actually did work for the previous managers as well. They have always, always been gracious, friendly and thorough in their work; prices are reasonable and NEVER, EVER have either of them or his son Patrick been rude, grumpy or indifferent in any way. I have never been made to wait for long periods of time, and that is only when parts need to be ordered. If he is working on another job and cannot make it, he will say so and has never said he doesn't work on anything someone else has worked on. The person giving him 1 star either is not being truthful or had contact with someone other than Preston's Plumbing & Heating. They are THE BEST! read more

As the cooler weather is drawing in, I decided to check that my heating was working as I hadn't used it in months - it wasn't. A quick poll of my neighbors recommended this company (company might be an exaggeration, it's a husband and wife team - and surprisingly enough, the husband is called Preston - bet you didn't see that coming). Preston came around and spent a while under the house checking the furnace - turned out it was a blown circuit board - it'd be $400 to replace. However, the furnace is old, and a replacement wouldn't necessarily fix anything (and even if it did, the furnace is old - not sure how much would be left in it). A replacement furnace would be $2150 - ouch! His call out fee is $95/hour, so as it only took him 30 mins to figure this out, I got him to check out my gas fire which has been playing up. While he's checking that out, I'm doing math in my head. I go for the new furnace (more pain upfront, hopefully less pain down the road). I don't get charged for the call out, nice! The new furnace was installed yesterday when I was out of town (it was all done under the house, so no house access needed). I got home last night and tried it - no hot air, just cool air. Called them today, Preston came around late this afternoon after today's jobs and with access to the house, played around both inside and under the house and I had hot air within 30 mins. Very painless to deal with, very happy with their service and from what I can gather talking to friends with new furnaces etc., totally in the ballpark price wise. I guess I owe my neighbors a beer! read more

My tenant had Preston's Heating and plumbing replace an electric water heater at our property in Salinas in October 2018. The unit failed in August 2019, and shorted out the power in the house. The person doing the repair reported that the unit failed because it was installed with the water flow reversed. The tenant reported the unit never heated the water right. I had to have someone else replace the water heater and repair the electric circuit in the house. Preston's was on vacation and I could not wait two weeks for my tenant to go without electricity or hot water. I asked Preston's to at least go pick up the failed water heater and possibly get a manufacturers refund since it was less than a year old. Two months later and the water heater is still sitting in the yard. Really bad incompetent service read more

I called Preston's to have some gas line and heating ducting inspected, and the guy was so incredibly rude I could hardly believe it. Gruff, short, almost grumpy. And he refused to come out and inspect the problem, his reasoning being "I don't work on something other people have worked on." Really? So he only works on brand new installs then, I guess. And since my 20 year old stuff isn't new, I didn't make the cut. I will certainly never call Preston's again, for any reason. read more

I just moved into my new house and as a good owner I started doing check-ups of all my appliances, including my furnace. I called up PG&E and he determined that there was a huge hole inside and needed the whole furnace replaced. Luckily we had Home Insurance. Called them up and two days later had Preston knocking on my door to perform a diagnose on it. He was extremely professional and I could tell that he was a seasoned plumber and heating technician. He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all my questions. He was honest amount exactly how much the extra costs will be (290$), since the Home Insurance company did not cover the additional cost of installation. He went over exactly what he would need to do and how he was going to do it. I had some issues with the Home Insurance company, so I had to call Preston's main-line to find out additional info on what was going on. I spoke with Tamara (Preston's wife), she was extremely nice on the phone and a welcome attitude/voice after dealing with the Home Insurance guys. She reassured me that everything was on track. Couple days later, Preston and his son Patrik showed up with my brand new furnace. Installation two about an hour or so, and everything went smoothly. With the first test of the heater...I could feel the heat pumping thru. That's what I call outstanding job. Thanks for everything Preston. Since then I have called Preston additional times for other plumbing jobs at the house. And all of them have been done professionally without any problems or call backs. Our furnace broke in on December 31st. Great. Who would be available so close to the New Year's holiday? Well, Preston Plumbing was, and I got a real live person who answered my call. Tamara was very sympathetic and got her husband to stop by on his way home. Sadly, the furnace needed parts and so we had to wait. Once the parts came in, our heater was fixed and all was well. I found this small company to be a total pleasure to work with. My homeowner's warranty company agreed to pay the bill (though Preston was not contracted by them) and Tamara was so gracious as to say "wait until they reimburse you the $900 plus" and then pay us. Now, that's what I call service! I highly recommend them for their friendly customer service, and ability to fix our furnace. As a side note, I'm puzzled at the person who rated Preston with one star, saying he was gruff and rude? Are you sure that was Preston? The first time he came to our home, he was very friendly. In fact, I would say that Preston and his wife were some of the friendliest people I've met in the service industry. Anytime I called, the phone was answered. If my call went to voice mail, I'd get a fast return call with an apology that they hadn't answered the first time. Me thinks you have the wrong company, sir. read more

We were sent out this company from American Home Shield to look at our furnace. Preston's attempted to triple charge us for work not covered by AHS and he attempted to do the work without permits. When questioned on these issue he walk away from the job leaving my wife and three young children in the cold at the start of winter. When American Home Shield sent out a second contractor he stated that the heater Preston ordered was over-sized and would not work for our home causing further delays for our return to a warm home. Based on my experience with Preston's Plumbing and Heating I would pass on this contractor. read more

A neighborhood general contractor told me to replace the thermostat. I replaced the thermostat with no luck; heater still not working. I have nothing but good things to say about Preston Plumbing. I use them at my home and at work and he has never failed us. I read through all the other Yelps and there's one that is not right. If you hook the water up backwards to an electric water heater it still works. And there's no way that would make your house short out. Sounds like your house in Salinas has a electrical issue. If the water was installed backwards the unit would still work you would just get a few gallons less hot water out of it read more

Preston's Plumbing replaced my furnace when PGE informed me I had a cracked part and CO2 was leaking. This was Thanksgiving week last year and Preston got it ordered and in before guests arrived. And the price was 2/3 the cost of the other quote I received. OMG, I called Preston's Plumbing & Heating to ask about a special issue that with the drain of my water heater. I need to have the cement drilled out to put the over-flow out of the laundry room.
