I called Renato's for a quote on an "A Service" for a very low mileage, one-owner Mercedes C300. The man said $400. I made sure he understood I was NOT asking about a "B Service" and he confirmed. Area dealers advertised $249 and $289. Standard rate at the dealers is $369. A local Mercedes garage was $160. Be careful how you spend your hard earned money. read more

I've been a loyal customer of Renato's Auto Service in Aliso Viejo since 2003, and I can honestly say that Renato is the most trustworthy and knowledgeable Mercedes-Benz technician in Southern California. My experience with him began when I ran into a problem with the air conditioning on my 1990 300E. The largest dealer in OC (I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, they deserve zero stars I dont want to mention name here ) quoted me a repair bill of several thousand dollars for a new compressor and condenser, which was more than the car was even worth at the time. On a recommendation of a friend, I visited what was then Renato Benz Services and met Renato himself. He quickly diagnosed the issue, replaced the circuit breaker, got the AC working, and didn't even charge me for that first visit. That honest service left a lasting impression, and from that point onward, I haven't taken my cars anywhere else. Over the years, I've brought a series of different Mercedes-Benz models to Renato for service--SLK230, SL550, G550, C300, E250 Bluetec(diesel) , and most recently the EQS450+. Regardless of the model, whether gasoline, diesel or electric, his expertise has always been exceptional. Renato is straightforward, fair with his prices, and never tries to up-charge or sell unnecessary repairs. Mercedes Benz LN wanted to charge me over 9K for repairs they said I needed. I brought my car to Renato's and they told me I only needed a battery. My car has been running great since. They could have told me I needed 4K in repairs, but they were honest. Walked out the door just paying for a battery. I will definitely be back for regular service updates. read more

Honest man, I walked in his shop by mistake, the entire are is filled with auto shops, but none the less, he told me, no wrong shop, and directed me to the right shop. I noticed he derives Mercedes-Benz vehicles and talked to him about my vehicles problem and he told me immediately what the issue was and why the issue occurred. I asked him to take a look at an additional issue, check engine lights, and as busy ad he was I thought he'd take an couple of hours, but he took my keys and brought my car in his repair bay and immediately started troubleshooting the check engine light problem. All this was FREE of charge. I paid $590 for an estimate the last time I went to Mercedes-Benz. This guy is SOLID. I will definitely bring my vehicle here for all future repair needs. read more

Very honest people, they do good work and don't overcharge or tell you things need to be fixed before they're actually bad. If I ever had to take something into the dealership or a tire place, they always tell me there's something that needs to be fixed for hundreds of dollars or more. I take that information to Renato's and check, usually it is bogus but occasionally they'll agree, and do it for about half the price. read more

I was referred to Renato when my BMW mechanic heard I might be considering an old Mercedes. This was cool--I had never met Renato, but called him up and asked him what he thought about me acquiring a 1972 Mercedes such and such a model. His immediate reaction was "That's going to be a money pit. If it's cheap, it's cheap for a reason. Be really careful with that." Then he listed a few things I ought to look for and encouraged me to take it to a dealer or mechanic in the area (car was from about 100 miles away). That to me is a solid example of more of the honesty and quality I had read about in other comments here. A mechanic with lesser ethics might have just encouraged me to bring it in to him...recognizing probably a recurring revenue stream for years on end! Instead, he sort of prevented me from becoming a near-term client for my benefit. So anyone of you with a Mercedes please go give him the business I am not yet able to get him--I think I'll pass on the 1972 model...for now. read more

I am not an active reviewer. In fact this is my second review on Yelp in 2 years. Its either great service or very poor service that would make me write a review. The first review I wrote a few minutes ago was unfortunately due to very crappy service. Talking about Renato, what a guy and great service. Very honest, caring and upfront about the costs. About a month ago, I found that the key for my 2001 Mercedes SLK 230 won't turn and it was Sunday night and the only thing I could find open at that time was the Mercedes Benz dealer in Laguna Niguel, so I got the car towed there - thanks to AAA. The next day the sales guy at the dealership told me that there is a 157 bucks charge for the diagnostics which applies towards the repair. Having no other option I said yes. A couple of days later I get a call from the dealership mentioning that the quote for the repair is $903. Would you believe it? They said I'll need to get the ignition switch/tumbler changed. I did not want to invest a grand in an old Mercedes. That is when I turned to Yelp and found Renato. Called him and he said he'll take a look. The only reason I went there was because of the glowing reviews about his service and character. Long story short, I got the problem fixed and in addition he also made a couple of other minor fixes as well. And the cost was $300.48. He saved me almost 500 bucks and naturally I felt inclined to tip him. When I offered to give him 50 bucks, he did not take it. On the negative side, he sometimes gets really busy and could not return my call once. I really don't mind it but wanted to let others know if this is something that matters to them. read more

I can't believe I am the first to review this place!! I just moved from Hermosa Beach and had an amazing mechanic in Torrance that serviced my MBZ. After moving to south OC, I was looking long and hard for an honest and reputable Mercedes service shop in the area. After going to Renato for the first time last week, I can finally say that I have found one!! PLEASE READ BELOW! A little history... the A/C in my 2003 S500 was working intermittently. It always seemed to shut off at the most inopportune times! With summer arriving, I had to do something about it. I had taken it to Firestone Complete Auto (Laguna Hills Mall) care before for oil changes, tires, etc., so I thought I'd give them a shot. After six hours, they came back with a cost of $1,460! They claimed there was a leak in the system, two faulty A/C sensors that needed to be replaced, and needed a new blower/regulator combo. I called their BS immediately. I told them I wanted to pick up my car, and they panicked and started dropping the price by $100s at a time. After that, I knew they were full of it. That's when I did some research and called Renato. Renato was SO NICE on the phone, and after some Q&A, he told me what he thought the problem might be and to come by at my convenience so he could properly diagnose it. After dropping the car off, he called back a few hours later with the diagnosis and an estimate. He inital conclusion was correct; It ONLY needed a new regulator (could be replaced seperately without having to replace the blower!) and a freon recharge for a grand total of $503!! On top of that, I asked him to replace the windshield wipers and he did it for free because it was large reapir bill already. Unbelievable. If you live anywhere close to Aliso Viejo, it's worth your time to speak to Renato before you do ANY Mercedes Benz service or repairs. I am so glad that I found someone I can trust and would recommend Renato Benz Service to my friends, family, coworkers... anyone!! read more

One of the worst things about moving far away is losing a trust worthy shop that won't bend you over and give it to you dry. Excuse my crude analogy but that's what typically happens when you pull up to any Joe Schmoe shop. But not here, at Renato you get honest opinions and good clean work done to your precious vehicle. I was referred here after a close buddy that happened to have the same car, started coming here for repairs and maintenance. He spent thousands here and had an insurmountable amount of praise for this place. We both are very very picky when it comes to car shops too since we both know our way around cars and have both spent countless hours underneath cars fixi Our family benz, old trust worthy 98 ML320 often needs expensive repairs and maintenance every so once in awhile. And this is our go to place. We've tried so many different shops in the past during our 120k miles that we've put on our car. Just moved back to SoCal, was excited to be able to take my car to Renato again. I took my car to Laguna Mercedes for b3 service just because I want it on the service record. They told me I needed new pads and rotors, went to Renato, and once again I only needed pads. $3k+ bill at the Mercedes for just the brakes turns into slightly less than $900. I've been going to Renato since I moved to this area and every time I am a satisfied customer. Recently my car's transmission broke down and I took it to Renato's. They fixed the transmission but when I got my car back it went crazy again. I took it back to the shop and Mark found out that my gear selector has gone haywire. Renato felt responsible for my car since it wasn't completely fixed the first time around, he only charged me for the parts the second time my car got into the shop. Once again Yelp proved beyond useful. I was super freaked out, as I could not figure out a simple issue. I used Yelp to find a Mercedes Benz shop and went to this first place that was given a low/poor rating as it was close to my home... That was a poor decision as Yelp was right. Thanks to Yelp as the second trip proved its use again with a great experience. I just bought a 04 S 430 and could not figure how to shut off a rear vanity light. Either could the first Benz place... Went here and they just pushed a button and we both lol... Simple right? Not always. I called ahead prior to my visit "again freaked out" and they said come on in.
