I was visiting from the west coast and over there, reflexology is super affordable. After walking around the city all week, I knew that I need a good massage. I looked up Yelp and was surprised how expensive it was in NY. It makes sense since I'm sure rent is super high. All the more affordable places I walked by, looked sketchy and it was underground. (Maybe I'm just too scared since I'm not a local New Yorker). To my rescue, I came across Renewing Spa on Yelp. What reeled me in was that there was a photo saying "Legitimate Service, No Hanky Panky." THANK GOODNESS! I've seen news where cops close down businesses for prostitution. I do not want to lay on a massage bed where someone had a happy ending...gross! Anyway, Renewing Spa. It was affordable and the staff was friendly and accommodating. My masseuse would ask if the pressure was fine and offered me to extend the time if I'd like, which I did because I needed it! Afterwards she gave me water and allowed me to hang out a bit until the rain lit up. They also give stamp cards, but I was only visiting. Will stop by if I'm ever in the city again. read more

This massage was one of the worst I've had in my life, I should have stopped 10 mins in but I kept waiting for it to get better. They left me on my stomach the whole time never flipped me, I was there with 3 other people and none of us enjoyed it. I went to tip $5 for a $50 1 hour and was told I was supposed to tip $10 per person, I wasn't told that to begin with and it wasn't posted anywhere so I gave them the $5. Won't return. read more

Really great, relaxing massage. The prices are great compared to those more upscale spas. If you really just want a massage and nothing else fancy, come get a massage here! It's no frills, no lavender diffusers or scented oils, but you will get a solid and thorough massage. They have a 70min special for $39 from 10am-1pm, or if you use your yelp check in offer, you get 10 min extra for free. Normal is $39 for 60min! They massage your whole back, shoulders, neck, arms, legs and feet. You probably wont get the feet unless you do at least 70min I think. They offered me extra 10min for $10, so I paid $49 for a 80min massage! Even groupon doesn't have it this price. They have a stamp card, so if you plan to get massages often, ask for a stamp. The guy at the front desk spoke good english but the masseuse herself did not speak much. I would definitely come back here the next time i need to roll out my knots and release some tension! read more

Wow. We visited New York and all we did was walk for days and days in a row so we were in so much pain by the end of our trip. We decided to visit this place because of the price and WOWWWW it was AMAZING! They took their time to really work out my knots and it felt more than an hour! The ladies were very friendly and very STRONG!!! Make sure you tip them well because for the price, it's still so cheap WITH the tip! This place is so good. They don't pressure you with a tip percentage like other places either, so it makes you WANT to tip them more! They're awesome! I felt so refreshed and restarted after this massage! OH MY JAY!!!! I've been coming here for a few years now. I have never had a bad massage here. A few months ago I was in a desperate need of a massage. All the female masseuse (who are amazing also) were taken and there was another girl waiting in front of me. The hostess asked if I would mind a male and I went for it. I needed that massage ASAP I didn't care if it was a male or female. Jay's hands are magic! I refuse to see anyone else! I left there feeling like a whole new woman! All my pain and aches were GONE!!! I have to warn you, if your muscles are tight AF it will be painful, but its that GOOD kind of pain. Great place in Chelsea! Modest of course, nothing fancy. But compared to some other similar spas I've tried in my day, they are highly skilled. My fiancé had Tommy and literally said it was the best most productive massage of his life. I had Jennie and she was very good- she got IN THERE. I'm one of those people who calls the gym my second home so you can bet my body takes quite the beating and endures a lot of wear-and-tear. Every so often I treat myself to a massage and if it weren't for an ROTD I saw a few weeks back, I would've never found out about Renewing Spa (thank you, Yelp addiction!). Everything about my experience was great. When I called to make an appointment, the woman on the phone was very friendly and even asked if I prefer a male or female masseuse. When I arrived (a half hour early) the woman working the front desk was incredibly friendly and welcoming. They took me immediately and my massage was amazing. Here's the thing: All you glitz and glam and lux-loving spa goers...this isn't your place. This is a no-frills territory. If you want a damn good massage, you come here. No, you won't have a cashmere robe and slippers to wear, there isn't cucumber-infused water, and the floors are not marble. I've been to plenty of those places and though a different type of experience, I go for the goods...I want my body fixed. And fixed it was! Renewing Spa is clean and has everything to make your experience an enjoyable one. Good massage from Sophia! This is a no-frills kind of place, which I don't mind; I don't need a super fancy spa to get a positive massage experience. She was super strong and definitely worked out a lot of the knots in my shoulders and back. The one thing I didn't like about this place was the fact that the massage beds are separated by a curtain and that they aren't in individual rooms. Although the noise from the other room or outside didn't bother me too much, it still occasionally distracted a bit from the experience. Another issue was that they used a towel (instead of a sheet) and the towel was slightly damp... gross. I question the cleanliness/hygiene of this place. read more

I had a massage with Linda and it was good. She didn't speak much English but we were able to communicate and she understood what I was saying. I am removing one star because I did the yelp check-in for the extra 10 minutes and did not get the full time allotted, only about 5 min extra based on the clock. I didn't have the energy to get dressed and talk to the manager , etc. I would come back but would bring up getting the full time beforehand. By far the best massage deal in the city. I get a lot of massages, expensive and cheap, and this is still my favorite massage. That said, it's not a spa so don't expect luxury. It's a bare bones experience. My biggest complaint is that it can be really noisy depending on what room you're in, but again for $40 for 60 min of an incredible massage you can't go wrong. I had a one hour foot massage which was fantastic! I thought I mis-heard when I went to pay and they said it was only $25 for one hour. The only drawbacks were another customer in the room was actually typing away on her laptop which made it difficult to relax (and pretty sad a person can't disconnect long enough to get a massage) but that really isn't the businesses fault, and 2) the massage chairs are not as comfortable as others I have experienced. Specially other foot massage places often have massage chairs which recline so you are not sitting upright, and also provide a blanket. That said, you can't beat the quality treatment and price of this place! read more

I love deep massages/deep manipulation of my muscles. This was not that, my massage was light pressure. The main con is they don't ask you what you like or want. I felt very rushed to lie down when I got into the room and just went with it. Possibly be clear of what you want and I think you will get what you want? Also, the room was very cold. I don't want to leave 3 stars but 4 is a stretch for this experience. I'm sure if I went again, made it clear of what I want, I would give this place a solid 4/5 stars. Wow. I just had an incredible massage! I agree with all of the other reviewers that this is an awesome and affordable place to get all of your muscle kinks worked out. My therapist really listened when I explained what was bothering me and customized my massage to that. She checked in regularly to make sure the pressure was just right - deep enough but not painful. And I paid a fraction of the cost and got a far better massage than I usually do at a spa. At the end, I was able to (for a little extra) add an additional 20 min foot massage (which was awesome). Checking in on Yelp gives you an extra 10 mins of massage. At this price point ($39 for an hour), I hope to be coming back weekly if not more. I don't understand the other reviewers who are bothered by the small waiting room or curtains. Just don't get there so early that you have to wait long. And the curtains that separate the rooms? I was in a room with four walls. It was very private. The curtain, which gives you complete privacy, was just for the opening to the door. Perhaps the other rooms are laid out differently but I didn't see that. And like someone else reviewed, I found the "No Hanky Panky" signs hilarious. It's a very professional establishment. Visiting NYC from San Francisco, we have tons of great foot reflexology places in the Bay Area for affordable prices. I am not a novice and know the techniques they use very well. My husband and I were very sore from spending the last 6 days walking around the entire area and climbing all the non ADA complaint stairs at the subway station which was hard on me due to suffering from chronic back pain. We found this place on yelp not too far away and had good reviews. We booked an appointment and ended up getting there early. My first thought was, "oh great, I'm already sore but yet have to climb a bunch of stairs to get to a place that's supposed to relieve that?" We ended up getting buzzed in and after making our way up were greeted in the very small reception area. The layout was very odd and instead of seeing a bunch of chairs as we are used to, there were only a few tiny rooms with tables and nothing but a curtain covering them. Normally, in the chair ones they don't expect you to get undressed as they work over your clothes and only roll up your pants so you can soak them in a bucket first. Had I known I had to take everything off except for my underwear, I would have requested a female. The person doing my massage made me feel a little uncomfortable because he kept coughing over me and then would roll down a good part of my underwear to work there and did so for a good portion of the time. I am used to the traditional butt massages you get but it's usually done fully clothed. He also seemed to use his elbow most of the time across my back which was painful and definitely not a proper technique. They use hot stones here but I felt like mine weren't very hot and that they reused the ones from my husband as he never left the room to get them and seemed to pass them back to the person working on my husband. I had a 70 min by using the yelp offer for an additional 10 minutes and ended up doing 30min on upper body, 30 on feet and 10 on scalp. I really wish they started with the foot portion first, instead of ending with it as that was the most painful even though I asked him to be gentler but he would forget. The head/scalp massage was the only part I really enjoyed but unfortunately, it only lasted 10min. I also noticed that the oils and lotions they use are in unmarked bottles so I don't know what quality they were or if there might have been any ingredients I may have been sensitive to. I felt the guy was using too much oil as well and he kept having conversations with the person who was working on my husband. Overall, some parts of the massage were good (except when they dug their elbows into my back) but it's not the most relaxing setting and I really wish they did a foot soak first and told you whether you would be fully undressing beforehand. It's definitely an affordable option if you need some reflexology and I may go here again if in the area but I would ask for someone else and make sure they knew not to use elbows at all. read more
