So where do I start. The massage sucks and they are very racist. Me and my partner went in today for a massage after some decent reviews hoping to get a reflexology. And I could have saved myself the trouble. They didn't even massage my arms let alone my legs or feet. She focused on my back and didn't ask me how much pressure I needed. I was visiting the city and needed a massage to ease the stress. When we finished I asked my partner how his massage was and he said it was equally terrible. We paid and was about to leave. The receptionist then told us that we should tip 20%. Which is optional. I told him I wasn't happy with the service. He then told me and my partner that we come al the time and never tip. It's one thing labelling all black people the same. It's another wanting to be tipped for terrible service. I used to like coming here. You can't beat the price. My last massage hurt and my back still hurts from it a day later. I must of told her at least 6 times that she was applying too much pressure. She would lighten up for a few seconds and then go back to applying too much pressure. Her English comprehension was also lacking. I eventually got tired of telling her and just dealt with it hurting. However once she got down to my feet I enjoyed that. Best massage I've ever received!! The best part of the experience was Haley, who was my masseuse. I generally prefer a deep tissue massage, but hate when spas charge extra for it. Haley used just the right amount of pressure (for no extra charge), and relieved all of the pain, tension, and knots in my neck, back, shoulders, and legs. I will certainly be requesting her for my next visit and referring all of my friends to her. The atmosphere was very relaxing and I enjoyed the soft music playing in the background. Since then I've stopped in a few times for a one-hour foot rub, and I have not been disappointed. Everyone has been friendly, professional, and good at what they do. The atmosphere is no frills and a little cramped (where you sit for your foot massage is an arms length away from the reception desk), but I can get past that when I'm paying less than $25 for an hour foot rub. Which leads me to this: I can't believe that some people are complaining about having to give a 20% tip on a highly discounted massage. In NYC 20% is standard and it is the least that you should give to any masseuse for the hard work that they do. There isn't enough money in this world to make me touch your feet! I visited Renewing Spa at the recommendation of my coworker and fellow Yelper, Jackie S. She suggested I visit for a good, inexpensive massage after a weekend of bad decisions and debauchery. It was a good call, I'd say! When I made the appointment, they asked if I preferred a man or woman (I don't care), and when I got there, I had some cold water and some of those delicious candies while I waited (about 3 minute wait). David was my guy and he was very good.. he listened to me and followed my lead regarding what was tender and not, and he really got to the root of my aches. I felt quite taken care of, which i think is exactly what we all need sometimes. They were very kind and this was a very good experience.. FYI, there is a sign that says, "Legitimate Business, no Hanky Panky" which made me giggle because I am basically 12 years old. read more

I generally don't even bother going to get massages anymore because I can never find a massage therapist deep enough who actually knows what they are doing, but I was pleasantly surprised here! They start you out with a warm foot soak and a complimentary 15 minute foot massage, then take you to their massage room. It was very clean, but there are two massage tables in the room separated by two curtains. I had Jay. He offered me Swedish or Deep Tissue (which I had a feeling would be good based off his pressure on the foot massage) and I took it. No oil, just stretching and pressure points. He is AMAZING and he's the type who will really get into your knots with his fingers. He will go as deep as you want until you tell him to use less pressure. This has never been done to me before! Absolutely wonderful. He spoke English very well and understood even more, so there was no confusion or language barrier and he was very communicative and aware of my comfort level. I won't come here again. It's clean and the prices are clearly listed which is good. It's definitely a no frills massage place which is totally fine with me. The rooms aren't really private. There's a small partition wall between you and the person next to you so you can't see them change, but you can hear everything going on next to you. My main reason for not coming back is I booked a foot massage. Usually these happen in a chair but I was lead to a massage table which was weird but fine. I'm used to foot massages hurting but then feeling amazing afterwards. It's been two days and the bottoms of my feet feel bruised. It hurts to walk. I've never had a foot massage where I left feeling way WORSE than I came in. You can get reflexology foot massages in Chinatown for the same price but leave feeling like you're walking on pillows. This location in Chelsea is super convenient, but I'll never come back. Edited to add: The business owner responded to this so I just want to clarify, I know to drink water before and after a massage. I'm also used to massages hurting. I've done Rolfing and other firm pressure massages and my experience has always been that even if it hurts during the massage, it feels better afterwards. I'm fine with experiencing a firm massage if it is effective. I am very pleased with my experience here. The establishment is a short walk from the subway and not difficult to find. I was able to get a same-day appointment at my requested time. The space itself is small and clean. It is basically a no-frills setup, which is all I need since I care more about getting a quality massage than how fancy the place is. The rooms have basic massage tables with towels, which work just fine. There is dim lighting and soft-playing music offering some ambiance. I received an additional 10 minutes to my massage for checking in on Yelp, so I received an excellent 70 minute deep tissue massage for $39 + tip. I paid with cash and do not know if they charge tax on credit card transactions like other places do; call ahead and ask if this is an issue. My therapist was Sara, who is extremely strong and perfect for deep tissue. She was very consistent with pressure throughout the massage. I will be asking for her regularly. I really love this place. I am from Los Angeles. I used to pay my massage for $60-80, and I thought that was cheap. I thought I would never get massage in New York City for $60. To be honest, when I first got to the place, it looked really sketchy. You buzz in, and the place looks like 80s Asian tea room (meaning tacky). The place is small, but it's what you get when you are in New York. The REAL STORY TIME: The massage was AMAZING! She went through every single muscle, and she helped me to finally relax from all these stress I have been getting from working so much!! OMG seriously, the masseuse had so much power and strength! As a tourist visiting the city, I quickly learned that even the best walking shoes won't subdue the soreness of walking all day. I don't even know how people living in the city do it but I'm guessing massages help. My friends and I came here on a late saturday night almost close to their closing time. Despite our late arrival, the staff welcomed us and stayed past their shift to make sure my friends and I received the best service. They were super friendly and attentive and that made the experience that much better. One guy even missed the last train to Queens that night... so nice of him to stay :) I know how much of a hassle it is to miss the last train :( I got a 20 minute foot massage and my friends did a combination of body and foot. The foot massage was painful but it was a good pain, the kind that leaves you feeling relaxed and better after the whole ordeal. You could tell them if you wanted the massage to be harder or softer. They do listen and make sure you're getting the most out of it. Great service and staff :) They do accept credit card, but if you pay cash you don't have to pay tax. Finding this place might be hard since it's not super obvious. You have to buzz in twice because there are two doors and it's located upstairs. They took us in right at the time of our appointment. You go in, they close the curtain to give you time to undress (keep the underwear on) and then they come in and start working on you immediately. You get to request specifically what type of massage you'd like. For me, I just got a bit of everything. I wish I didn't get the deep tissue portion of the massage though because it hurt! But then once she progressed to the Swedish massage, it was fine. Overall the massage was good. The masseuse was good at trying to accommodate to a head massage and focus on the shoulders as I requested. This is definitely a no frills place but it's not bad at all considering the price you get for an hour+ massage. I was super excited when I saw this place on 8th Avenue. The location is convenient, and the space is very nicely decorated. It's a cheap massage place, so keep that in mind. You're getting more than what you pay for, but if you want some upscale massage, this is not the place for you. I had a wonderful massage from Jenny. She was friendly, professional, and very thorough. I have a lot of knots in my back and shoulder that are tough to get out (I leave a lot of massage places feeling the same as I did when I came in) but she did it.
