    Comedy tonight
    Paul P.

So much fun and a hilarious show. I attended for Valentines Day and what a hoot. Every seat is a winner, arrive early to get your choice un-reserved seat. Full bar and a few snacks make this a great date night/ friend night. Their shows change often and signup to receive free tickets in your birthday. Chance for pictures with comedians after the show.

Local and traveling comics. The tickets are affordable. And they sometimes bring in big (comedy club) names like Joey Diaz and Brad Williams. Great for a night out with friends or a date.

Cheers to good laughs with good people!

This is a great place! Think of The Pioneer Underground as like your grandma's basement, only COOLER! Not just in the dimply lit, cool, slight dankness of a basement, but cool as in where you come to hang out with friends, laugh your @$$ off, and have inexpensive, stiff drinks poured by some of the hardest working staff you've ever met! These folks want you to have a blast and they pour like their hand went numb! Reno Tahoe Comedy brings together some of the areas best and brightest upcoming comedians and some of Reno's favorites, too! Reno's known for old-time casino glamour, quickie divorces, AYCE sushi, check cashing joints and now, R-TC regular Justin Rupple! The tickets are really affordable, the calendar offers lots of variety for everyone's kind of humor, and the staff and talent (often one and the same!) make you feel like a welcome guest, like your Grandma would! Show tickets are so affordable, you can make R-TC a regular part of your entertainment nightlife, and support local comics and our underground arts scene, too! Besides, who doesn't want to laugh more, really? Bet your Grandma would want you to!!!

    Front and center!

The location it really only obvious after you try to open the doors to the pioneer center, but there is a stairway to the basement?... and that is where the fun begins. It has moody lighting, a check in/merchandise table and a alcohol/snack bar downstairs. The drinks are reasonably priced and cleverly named. (I'm pregnant so I'm not sure about their taste or potency). We snagged a table right up front for the festivities. The stage is simple, sound quality was good and the comedians were hilarious! All very different but equally as clever. The jokes were not distasteful but probably not suitable for those under 16. The "intermission" was too long and I wish they had heartier snacks (they had snack size bags of chips and cookies, but I would have killed for a popcorn or pretzel with cheese). Pros: great date night spot and hilarious Cons: parking and needs better snacks Overall: we will be back!

    Ready for the show?

Ok. Now I know I better not try and "Review" a place with a few drinks on board and my iPhone in my hand. What a crappy review. So here is a new one. We have been to a number of shows put on by Reno-Tahoe Comedy. Justin Rupple was the best of the shows we have seen. Funny club comic that knows how to work a crowd. The shows are all run pretty well, think locally run though. Not all slick and smoothly ran. In fact last night they had a "Bachelor" back out at the last minute and someone from the audience stepped up. It made for a great show, but might seem a little hokey to some. I love the home grown feel of the place. Rubbin elbows with funny people and passionate people makes me feel more connected to the community and the people in it. The space they use at the Pioneer Underground is cool. Everyone can see and there is even a small row of "comedy show" tables as well. The bar prices are good, I just never seem to have an alcohol appetite when I am catching a show at the Underground. I did love how they bumped a handful of loud girls talking back to the comedian last night. They wouldn't shut up and the house was on it pretty quick. They still wouldn't shut up so they were asked to leave. So many people come to these shows expecting it to be about them. Good on Reno Tahoe Comedy for knowing where to draw the line and holding that line. If you aren't a stair person, you may want to check ahead of time by calling someone because it seems the only way in is down a huge set of stairs. All in all, friendly local people running this and giving us some good flavor to our nights in downtown Reno. I will be back often.

Great seats from up in the theater looking down at the stage before the show starts.

GREAT place for a date night or for girls/guys night out! The Reno-Tahoe Comedy Shows are just what you need, a whole lot of laughter in your life and they continue to deliver show after show. And we have been enjoying all different comics and shows for years - they've even expanded to bring shows down to Carson City recently. This is a fantastic venue to showcase all the hilarious talent downstairs in the Pioneer Underground, there's not a bad seat in the house with friendly bartenders that tempt you with perfect libations named for the hilarity of the night and p.s. what a plus to not have that pesky 2 drink minimum. Staff that greets you when you arrive to answer any questions, get you signed up on their email/mailing list to get 2 for 1 tickets with information for future shows, all while directing you to the open seating of sit were you like - so get there early, be brave and go for front row, possibly on the stage, who knows what the comic will have in store for you during the show. Life is definitely better when your laughing.

Great evening with my fiancé for some comedy, not that I don't give her enough...we went to Steve Hytner. Steve might be best known for his role on the sitcom, "Seinfeld" as Kenny Bania. Steve had the entire show laughing historically through the the full duration of his stencil comedy act. The atmosphere was lively and full of comedic talent. Being our first time, I did not realize that all the people working in the front of the house, operated every aspect of the show! I will definitely go back for another fun time! 5 stars!

A wonderful magic show inside the Grand Sierra Hotel & Casino…read more I was looking for something to do without leaving the hotel for a major conference. I saw that they were advertising this show...and I like a good magic show. It did not disappoint. The sleight of hand and on-stage demonstrations were incredible. I was still banging my head of how they did it or maybe it was the cocktail at the bar that was playing tricks on my mind. As a guest of the hotel, I had a 20% coupon and promptly used it at the ticket office, though I think I should have picked my seat better. Nonetheless, I was in the second row and I was able to get a good look of the magic up close. If you arrive early, you can hang out for Happy Hour, they had some unique drinks including the local standby beers and cocktails...and mocktails for those attending the all-ages show. I recommend seeing this show on a Friday or Saturday night if you want a bit more rambunctious, racy show.

After happy hour ended a bud light and high noon was $18. I can't believe they turned the old movie theater into a magic show theater. I sat there thinking about all the movies I saw at the Hotel and the first time I had a drink in a movie theater so long ago, 1989. It was fun in the bar prior to the doors opening they have a magical experience for adults and kids to set the mood for the evening. Tracy the bartender was awesome! She also works at Blitz during the day. She has the kindest soul and such a people person! It was like I had known her for years. They have a box office where you can purchase tickets. Very hard to hear the gal! They definitely need a microphone to speak to each other. If you think you're going to save a few extra dollars on those service fees - you may have to think twice, just purchase on line. It's much easier. Also, they have a snack bar with fresh popped popcorn $9 -$13 and huge pretzels $14. Chase Hasty and his wife have traveled around the world to over 25 countries sharing their magical talent and ballet dancing skills. My favorite part of the show was when Chase brought out a locked box and Hoisted the box with a rope up to the ceiling and told this guy to watch the box. Later in the show they opened the box, it was a pretty impressive trick!!! One not to be forgotten!! It's a small production but well thought out with couple extra dancers and costumes changes. I love that Chase, picks people out of the audience to help with the show. Maddox was a return kid that had been practicing his magic and Chase let him perform in front of the audience and what is that called "That's Magic!!!" It's nice the performers will met you afterwards in the hallway to have pictures and ask questions. It's a great family night or you can come to the later show at 9pm for a little more risky nocturnal show. I'll have to save that one for another time!

What a great place for live shows! Given the age of this building, they have done a spectacular job with the upkeep. The building still seems new and the interior is clean and updated. The seats are very comfortable and the traffic patterns are well thought out, even on a busy show day. They have concession stands available on both floors- spreading out traffic and easing the lines/crowds. Prices are reasonable for a live events venue. The show itself was great, and the venue is clearly well designed with great acoustics and great views from every seat in mind. The technical features available at the venue also seem to be pretty high tech and modern- at least they were for the Paw Patrol show. I was especially impressed with the restrooms. Sparkling clean with so many restrooms available. I can't imagine lines for the restroom ever being an issue here. I regret not having been here for any shows in so long. Loved the first two opening acts. They were great and I loved their choice in music. It was the old school vaudeville burlesque style. As acts continued we had clothing and music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. The final act had to be from the present since I didn't recognize the music. Each performer did a fantastic job at costume and music selection, as well as putting together the right theatrical dance. I enjoyed the old school feel of the show. I did miss a fan dance- a Sally Rand impersonation would have topped off the night. Right up front the audience was told how the troupe is about celebrating the woman- no matter their sexual orientation, color or size. Any ill manners are not tolerated and you will be removed promptly. It takes quite a bit of nerve to perform in front of so many strangers. If you ever see the name, catch the show.

After nearly 10 months of planning, I expected the basics to be handled correctly. When we checked in, we were given a double room instead of the King room we reserved. I went back to the front desk and was told that because they were oversold for Thursday night, there was no way to move us into a King room at all during our stay. That explanation didn't make much sense--they confirmed they had King rooms available Tuesday and Wednesday, but because of the Thursday overbooking, they couldn't honor the reservation for any of the nights. So even though I booked months in advance and had already arrived, I was effectively bumped in favor of guests who hadn't even checked in yet. To make matters worse, only 2 out of 5 elevators were working the entire stay, which led to long waits (up to 20 minutes to get down in the morning) and added frustration. After the fact, I looked through other reviews and saw that this seems to be an ongoing issue, not a one-off situation. Between the reservation not being honored and the operational problems, it was a pretty disappointing experience overall. Skip this place.

I got a Groupon to do a month of acting classes. I was just looking for a fun activity for her, she was only four years old at the time. She has been going to Take 2 Performer's Studio ever since and adores it. Not only are they amazing with the kids, but they are so warm and caring. They really foster a great learning atmosphere for the kids here. That is what I love most about this place. I love that it is locally owned and managed by a mom too! Five years ago, after only maybe two acting lessons, a Hollywood talent agency visited the studio and all of the students were allowed to audition if they wanted. This type of audition happens a couple times a year there. A handful of kids were called back by the agency, and my daughter was one of them! It was such a big surprise to us and she was, naturally, delighted to get to go to Hollywood. She did get signed and has since been a principle character on a famous television show. Not only did she LOVE getting to go to LA, but she was thrilled that she got paid really well too. There is nothing like letting your child do something they love to do, but also fill up their college savings account! Since that fun start, our little girl has been taking lessons for acting and voice here. She has had a little training there for modeling too. The school puts on great plays which we love. Like right now, they are rehearsing for a Christmas play. Our daughter has gotten to perform in front of hundreds of people both singing and acting through Take 2. "Stage Fright" is not in her vocabulary. She has gained so much confidence. She has also done runway modeling for local malls a couple times, which was really fun, through Take 2. Really, Take 2 gives their students great tools and amazing opportunities. We really feel like the management tries hard to give the kids as many opportunities as possible to utilize what they are learning. They make the lessons fun, so the kids see it as "play" but really they are learning a ton. I look back to how we started this fun journey with a Groupon for a month of acting classes and it amazes me how much my child has gotten out of her training at Take 2.

We opted for the one class per week deal to see if he would actually like it. He absolutely LOVES it! All of the instructors are wonderful and very patient with the kids (this is not just for children, mind you, but the classes he takes are the children ones). Waters (acting), Colette (modeling), Claire (modeling), Holly (improv) and Justine the owner and so easy to talk to and very professional. Did I mention Grace Hayes is the children's voice coach? She made it through the auditions to American Idol! There are several other instructors as well, but I have not had the pleasure of meeting them yet. Four months later, he now goes five days a week and looks forward to every class. It is such a confidence builder having to speak in front of your peers and adults.
