Has their ownership changed hands in the past couple of years? The last time I bought the cake slices the icing was divine. But now it's flat and unflattering - like that ghastly Kroger icing. I have been going to Rech's bakery for over 40 years and today is the first time I can honestly say that their product was less than stellar. I purchased donuts, parker house rolls, and garlic rolls. The donuts were outstanding, so were the Parker house rolls. But the garlic rolls show signs of mold, and it's not seasoning, and the package had some condensation. I wanted these for my Salvation Sunday dinner but it's a no way this time. I even looked for an expiration date and didn't find one. However, I'm not sure bakeries have to provide expiration dates since most of their products are prepared the same day. In the future, I'll make sure to look at their products more closely. I cannot exactly write them off since they are usually very good and I will just chalk this up as a one off. read more

So I liked Resch's so much I went back a second time in one week. The first half dozen wasn't enough for me. The donuts here are so moist and delicious! There are also just so many flavors and types that I just needed to try basically everything. Highlights for me were the cake donut and cruellers. The cake donut was honestly a surprise as I'm not a big cake donut fan but my god, please get one if you come here. The lemon donut was also great, but I have a soft spot for lemon sweets in general. The only thing I tried that I wasn't super amazed by were the cinnamon rolls. They just didn't have as much cinnamon as I would have liked and tasted more like iced dinner rolls to me. If you're ever in the area, def drop by for a seweet treat. I need to go back for these beingets though, it was the reason I even wanted to come but never saw them available. read more

I ordered a Christmas cake a week in advance and picked up a dozen doughnuts. The store was packed as usual. The young lady who waited on me was fantastic. My scheduled pick up was the 23 rd. Got a call from Sarah who double checked the declarations I requested. Very much appreciated. Most places don't take the time especially during the busy holiday. Picked up cake and again staff was fantastic. It's nice to have great customer service. The cake on Christmas Day was fresh and very good. My son in law said it best. I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the best bakery I've ever visited. A coworker suggested that I buy her birthday cake from here back in 2007 and I've been sold on this place ever since. Something about those donuts and the cakes that set them apart from other bakeries. It just seems as if they're using different (more natural?) ingredients than what you find in the competition, especially the supermarkets. It's clear that they put that 'love' into their work. I think my favorite is the yellow cake with white icing. I swear you don't feel it as you bite down, it's that light and fluffy. And the taste, definitely to die for. First of all I grew up on Resch's Bakery from the store at Champion and Livingston in their earlier days to their store further east on Livingston where it stayed jammed packed with customers who were more than willing to take a number and stand in line for as long as it took. They ALWAYS had the freshest and most flavorful pastries and baked goods. Well, it saddens me that those same standards do not hold true since the move to Gahanna. The only reason I gave a score of 1 is for cleanliness and customer service. My family have visited multiple times to this new location hoping with each visit the same freshness and quality we were so used to would return. Sadly, it doesn't seem to be where the focus is with this new location. The donuts are now so dry and stale it's as though they have been baked and sitting on those racks for days and I mean more that 2 or 3 days. Sure the store and the pastries displayed in the cases look pristine but once your order is taken and they go to the back to fill your order from the rack and racks sitting just waiting to be picked, that's where it all ends. Are you baking in the quantities you used to have to because of the traffic your previous location was getting because you are sure not getting that traffic now. I purchased cupcakes for my grandmothers 93rd birthday. I had to reschedule my cupcakes 2 different times due to some unforeseen circumstances. They had a very large selection of classic and even some I hadn't seen before in the case. I ended up getting a lemon blackberry small cake. This was delicious! It was moist and had great flavor. Resch's Bakery has been a favorite of mine for 30+ years! Every birthday our cakes came from here. They are absolutely delicious. The icing is so good and the cake is perfect. An occasional treat were danishes from them in the mornings. They were always my favorites. I have since moved away from the Columbus area, but was visiting a few weeks ago and thought to myself, I need to go there! I had my family stop by and got a variety of their danishes. They were just as good as I remembered. They changed the shape from rectangle to circle, but the flavor is still just as good. The rest of my family enjoyed them as well. So I have often tried the cakes that my coworkers have brought to work and they are always delicious! I was in the area and decided to stop in and definitely did not regret it. I came in around 2pm on Friday and it was pretty crowded for a weekday afternoon. They have a system where you pick a number which is nice because you can wander around and view all of the pastries while you wait. I honestly did not come with anything in particular in mind but settled on a plain glazed donut and a frosted Santa sugar cookie which came to a little over $4. The glazed donut was honestly one of the best things I've ever tasted. It was so soft, and just melted in my mouth. The sugar cookie was cute and tasted good although it didn't blow my mind or anything. All in all I would recommend for quality, efficiency, and looking forward to trying some of their other donuts! Be sure to check your item before you leave... I ordered a German Chocolate cake for my parent's 50th-anniversary dinner. When ordering I distinctly remember saying it was for my parent's anniversary and that I would need it for their dinner. They were nice enough to say that the writing on the cake would not be any extra charge. I picked up the cake around 4 pm so that I could make it to the dinner on time. The box was properly taped and secured closed on each side so I took a quick peak inside to make sure that it was the right order. I briefly saw the "Happy" and decided I didn't need to open the lid in its entirety as I had an hour and 30-minute drive ahead of me and I didn't want to be late. At the end of dinner, my immediate family and my parents were eager to see what was inside the box. They have heard of Resch's Bakery and couldn't wait to see what kind of dessert I had brought for them from Columbus. So since it was their anniversary I gave them the honor of opening up the box. My mother opened the box, looked at me, and said... "Who is Ann?!?" (See attached photo). Mind you my mother's name is Gloria. Looking at the cake it looks like they started to write ANNiversary as there seemed to still be room for the remainder of the letters. An old school donut bakery with very modern prices! Whenever you go into a place and no prices are posted, you know it ain't cheap....we ordered a dozen donuts and a small pretzel and it came to over $18! The pretzel was so so, the donuts were tasty and fresh but not worth the premium prices they put on them. When you walk into this place, you have to take a number from the machine located on one of the racks. I wasn't impressed with the service. Told them I was a first time customer and no smile and no friendly hello. Apparently the most famous donut, according to our unenthusiastic counter attendant, is the donut stick (that looks like a quarter moon). I tried the large twist donut and it was just big and sweet. No big deal. The apple fritter was not crispy enough on the outside and didn't have enough cinnamon or apple flavor. The vanilla cream filled donuts was a bit too sweet. We decided to swing through Resch's this morning (10 AM on a Saturday). There was very limited parking spots left and there was a line out the door. This immediately told me that this bakery must be great! My daughter and I got a dozen sorted doughnuts and cheese danishes for $16. I thought that that was a great deal! While I was not a fan of the cheese danish (which is my absolute favorite), I did enjoy the cinnamon doughnut that I had. It was light, fluffy, and perfect. The cheese danish was more on the dry side and had a lemony flavor which I am not a fan of. We will see what my husband thinks of the cheese danishes when he gets home! read more
