Avoid at all costs. Rescue Me Pets offers for-profit "Puppy Parties" and the foster home we visited seemed neglectful and possibly abusive. I am sorry to say we had a very upsetting experience visiting a Rescue Me Pets foster care home in Hawthorne. The dogs were not healthy; one cried loudly the moment she had to go back to her living quarters and the other seemed hyper vigilant and skittish. It was heartbreaking to see. The "foster parent" seemed cold and apathetic when interacting with the dogs. Additionally, the representative from Rescue Me Pets and the foster parent told us inconsistent stories as to who the foster parent actually was. When it came to answering questions about the dogs' medical issues (both had balding around the eyes, we suspect a fungal or bacterial infection) - the foster parent denied being the foster parent (she claimed she was just a house sitter and did not know details about the dogs' histories or health). Then once our appointment came to an end, she said that if we wanted to move forward we could take a dog home right away (there was no screening process for us) and that she would accept the adoption fee and provide medical paperwork for whichever dog we wanted. We left with a very bad feeling and are deeply concerned about the dogs at this foster home. Upon further research, we discovered that Rescue Me Pets also offers for profit "puppy parties", which are widely considered exploitative and abusive. We are reporting them to animal control and other animal welfare organizations and urge others to avoid them at all costs.

I was on PetFinder every single day in search of a new puppy to bring home. I came across an Ad that was posted by Rescue me pets. It was for Sasha, a German Shepherd Labrador mix. I immediately contacted the number and within minutes Phylicia texted me back. Working with Phylicia and Debbie was incredible. They are very well versed in the animal behavioral and health industry and will do their best to make sure you are prepared for your first or maybe in your case 2nd puppy. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for their next best friend.

Got my new bestie here. He is healthy and was clearly well cared for and socialized. I'm shocked every day how well behaved he is around people and other dogs. They were also really informative on all the things a first time pup owner would need to know.

I adopted this awesome Australian Shepard at their adoption center in Hawthorne . I live in San Francisco and called in to see if I could reserve my puppy and come and get her .. They said she needed all her shots done and nail removal before I get her, (which they fit into the two days before I came down ) I reserved the pup by sending an easy venmo to them ... Not only was everything done when I got there , they included a puppy package of over a month of food and treats and toys . Not only that , they gave us a cage to transport!!? My dog is living the life in the city of SF and they even took care of the future shots by sending hem to my home . You guys rock and am so happy !! Keep on rocking and keep on rescuing these amazing pups !! Much love

However, we've run into the same issue multiple times, and it's become frustrating. Whenever a new group of kittens arrives, it seems that staff members are able to claim or adopt them before customers even have a chance to view them or express interest. We've experienced this on more than one occasion, and it leaves us feeling like customers aren't being given a fair opportunity to adopt some of the animals that come in. I understand that employees may also want to adopt pets, but when customers are actively looking to adopt, it doesn't seem fair for staff to have first access while they're working. In my opinion, this is a policy issue that should be addressed to ensure everyone has an equal chance to adopt. We still like this place and appreciate what they do, but this is something that has significantly impacted our experience.

From the moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed by the kind and knowledgeable staff who took the time to thoughtfully explain the fostering and adoption process. The one staff member even gave us a mini tour to see their dog Simba who was the only one available for fostering at the moment. All the others were only available for adoption. Unfortunately, since I am only looking for small to small-medium sized dogs there wasn't a match for me yet. But it was so great to see the row of dogs held in this warmly heated section of the center who all had mini lifted cot like beds to rest on instead of having to lay on the cold floor. The facility was so clean, well-maintained, and heated, providing a comfortable environment for the animals, who were kept safe and warm inside this wonderful non-profit, no-kill center. The kitties are displayed right by the entrance so that your heart can view and connect with animals as soon as you walk inside their facility. I learned so much during my visit and felt inspired by the care and dedication of everyone involved. During my visit, they didn't have any small to small-medium sized dogs that I hoped for but I hope to go back frequently to check on their on going availability for incoming dogs to come. Crossing fingers. Overall, it was a splendid experience, and I'm excited to return soon with the hope of finding the perfect dog to adopt.

We've foster failed a couple dogs, helped place another through our online community, and poured a lot of time, care, and emotional energy into helping these animals. Despite that, we were repeatedly met with rude, dismissive, and condescending communication from staff, coordinators, and even veterinary partners both via email and when we would take the foster in for appointments. What was most frustrating was seeing the urgency around training and behavioral support suddenly disappear once they learned we were moving forward with adoption. The concern for the dog's behavioral needs no longer seemed to matter in the same way. Given the adoption fee of $500, we also expected a much higher level of communication, support, and behavioral follow-through than what was ultimately provided. Rescue work should be rooted in compassion for both the animals and the people volunteering to help them. Unfortunately, the way we were treated made it clear we will not be fostering with this organization again, and I would encourage others to think carefully before fostering, supporting, or adopting through them.

My second experience was terrible. After my puppy was killed while with me on leash by a reckless driver, I later returned to L&L to look for a new baby. Different set of employees, and both my nephew and I were shocked that one of them seemed to blame me for my puppy being killed. He was rude, insensitive to the circumstance, and he did all he could to throw up roadblocks to helping me. He was an expressionless jerk who had zero empathy or professionalism. I contacted the manager about this, and though she three times promised to call me back, she never did. This is heartless behavior for a place that is supposed to be doing good. I will never go back to that place again. The only reason this is not a 1-star review is because my first experience with them was good. That appears to have been an anomaly. But when we got our very first kitten 15+ years ago from a cousin's litter, we quickly learned that she was lonely and really needed a friend. Lesson learned, rescues aren't trying to be difficult, they're trying to do right by the animals (and yes, we later got her a friend ). Our family adopted our cat, Salsa, from Stray No More about three years ago. Her story broke my heart, she had been tossed in a garbage can outside of a Petco, and the employees brought her to Stray No More, who immediately stepped up to care for her. At the time, we weren't sure if we were ready to adopt another cat, so the rescue let us take her in as a foster-to-adopt. I think this is such a thoughtful option for people who want to "test the waters" before making a lifelong commitment. It didn't take long for Salsa to show us she was already home. My son fell in love with her spunky energy and mischievous streak right away, and we knew we couldn't imagine our home without her. Three years later, she's still keeping us on our toes with her "tortitude" and making us laugh daily. I'm so grateful that Stray No More was there for Salsa when she needed it most, and now a volunteer, I've seen firsthand how much care and intention they put into their adoption process. If you're looking to adopt, know that their guidelines come from a place of love for the animals and the joy of finding the right match is absolutely worth it.
