A ruined bottle of Syrah, wasted by lack of care
    Jason C.

I want to support my local wine bar but what is happening here is a travesty and an affront to the God of Wine. The entire collection of wine was exposed to heat and ruined but they are still selling it to unknowing customers. Many of the wines that I inspected had corks bulging out past the foil and were discolored. The Syrah I picked and thought was safe looked good but under the foil, the cork was bad and yes the wine was rancid. I wish that was just a side story but the glass of wine I purchased was also foul. It was the most expensive Napa Cab they serve. I asked a few times how long the bottle was open and he did not know but guessed maybe a night or two before. This tells me a few things; they are not keeping wine fresh or pumping out the air or using a Coravin system for example. They are not writing the date opened even. Also in my personal opinion, the wines here are the lower tier to keep pricing down and profits high. It just makes the experience low for the customer. Lastly I did have a cheese plate and it was also terrible. The staff have no knowledge of wine. So it just ends up being a happy hour place for people to drink cheap wine. I'm sorry for the former failed business and appreciate trying to take it over but the business model is not working. It's not worthy of business woman of the year unfortunately. Lesson learned: Californians know wine!

Great Happy Hour deal 50% off from 5-6. Attentive service, I couldn't decide and the bar person allowed me a sip to try first. Had a few glasses of wine and the charcuterie board, lots of seating options and some outdoor patio seating as well. All in all a great stop if you're looking to have an easy glass of wine.

Fantastic spot for wine! My friend and I just finished dinner at Havana and stumbled on this gem. It was a gorgeous Friday night and we wanted to sit outside to enjoy a nice Pinot Noir. The menus were so creative and had a clever and witty description of each wine. Needless to say we had a few glasses. Deanna the Manager was down to earth, funny, sweet and attentive. We will be coming back for sure.

Who doesn't like a good wine bar or even a bad wine bar! Good thing this is a great wine bar. Everything you could want. A bar, high top tables, outside seating with heaters, a totally adequate selection of bites and of course the intimate romantic couch areas. We have been to this location quite a few times as well as the Concord location (different review to come). Each time we have tried different wines and snacks but seem to be settling in the Jax Cab and a grilled cheese sando. For the beer crowd there are some on tap. The service is excellent and the decor is cool. Great vibe especially with the more current upbeat music on the sound system. I don't understand why some place don't get this. Music sets the mood. Places playing downer pop i.e. John Mayer etc., are a total buzz kill. This isn't that place. My only ding is I wish they were open earlier. Having said that they are open to 11:30 pm on Friday and Saturday and 10 the other open days. Maybe 9 on Sunday. Closed Monday.

I had this place bookmarked to visit next time I was in Walnut Creek and finally got to check it out last night! Cozy, cute vibe with a wall of wine and lots to choose from including specially curated flights! Went with bubbles the first time around and let them choose the second which was a great California Cab! Service was fantastic through the night and we enjoyed a local cheese board to accompany our wine ! Had a great time and will definitely return to try more of their food options and some wine flights!

This was a nice find recommended by a friend. Located in Downtown Walnut Creek. It's small and intimate. Went in to check it out and returned several times during my stay in town. Wonderful service (both from Justice and Daniella), tasty food offerings and wonderful wine. Happy hour runs till 6pm each day and is 50% off the entire menu. This was such a gem of a find in a place with many options. Highly recommend if you are looking for something casual, laid back and friendly. They balance it all and deserve to be rated number one in the area 15 years running. I look forward to returning.

I had hoped that what I read from a 1-star Yelp review about having reservations, then finding out…read morethis restaurant is closed, was only a rare occasion. I did not even think to alert my friends about what I read because I thought after reading other Yelp reviews and looking up their Instagram posts with beautiful photos and people looking like they were enjoying this restaurant, that what was described in that 1-star review must have been a rare occurrence. Boy was I wrong because to my dismay when we arrived at their restaurant door last evening, it happened to us and I did not want to believe it, but all the evidence was there to show they were in fact, CLOSED. Two other customers and our group arrived at the same time in advance of our 6pm reservation time, only to see their door closed, lights off, with nobody inside. We were confused not only because we did not receive a message notifying us that their restaurant would be closed and our reservation needed to be canceled, but also because the customers who arrived when we did said they had booked their reservation yesterday, meaning the reservation system was still active. What's more is we did not see any signage on their door or windows about being closed, but instead we saw an EBMUD notice on the door stating water service payment was overdue, which we were not expecting to see upon our arrival. Our group needed to quickly figure out a plan B for our birthday celebration dinner, as our friend had planned and reserved The Library Social Club over a month ago. I dine at many restaurants and any time there needs to be a change or cancelation for any reason by a restaurant business, I have received an e-mail, a text, or a phone call alert, as a customer courtesy call, and I have at the very least, even seen hand written notes on restaurant doors and windows as signage alerting customers of their business being closed. Needless to say, we were disappointed and frustrated by this incident today. We drove from out of town to try this restaurant that was not even open when customers had reservations. Fortunately, our friend proposed a different restaurant that we could walk to and they sat us promptly upon arrival. We enjoyed their delicious food instead!

I was the first to walk in around 4ish in the afternoon (they have happy hour!) and I was offered a seat and water quickly. I decided to order the smoked salmon crudo and the gentleman (I think one of the owners?) gave me some pairing suggestions. While that was getting prepared in the kitchen, he offered me a tasting of another white wine on the house, which was so kind! In the picture below... it's most drunk haha but it was a nice amount to taste and sip on. That smoked salmon crudo is SO GOOD. The citrus adds a nice brightness, and I think there was a hint of honey used in the vinaigrette. I was pleasantly surprised and it's easily the best smoked salmon dish I've had in a while! The wine was excellent as well. I was only in for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half before I moved on, but I got to hear regulars come in and greet the owner like old friends. There's a really cool vibe here, with great music and decor, so I really wished I lived closer to visit more often! As I was leaving, I did chat with the gentleman again (complimented him/the wine bar) and he said he hoped that I would come again as he is trying to work with his partners to add more to the menu (the regulars that came in were asking after the gumbo and the brunch, which they were not serving at the time). I definitely hope to visit again and try those other menu items!

When we first arrived we were seated right away and given waters immediately by our lovely host, after being seating it took 15 minutes for our waiter to even look at us and when she did she said "Do you know what you want to drink?", this was our first interaction. It took about 20 minutes to receive our wine and when she brought it to us she never let us taste the wine before pouring it, which I have never experienced at any other winery. After leaving it took an extra 10 minutes to receive our order of French fries, luckily the water machine was right next to us so whenever we needed a refill we could just get up and get it ourselves! We almost asked them to not even bring out the bread because it had been 45 minutes after ordering before it came to our table. I think we would have been more understanding if it was a busy night but it was the complete opposite. I could have driven all the way to Napa, been served, eaten a full meal, then home with my teeth brushed in bed by 8, but instead I'm at Shadowbrook waiting for my bread. Overall the food was great, the wine was excellent but the service was absolutely horrific! We felt overlooked and unwelcome from the start. Our server barely acknowledged us and gave the impression that we weren't worth her time while serving others next to us with enthusiasm. Unfortunately the 20% service charge did it for me, I wouldn't mind paying if it was worth it, if I could tip our waitress less I would.

Fantastic drink. My friend tasted mine and ordered the same. The selection is the draw here. One look at the shelves tells you they have the base for any drink you want. We split the Margherita flatbread, pesto, fresh mozzarella, and blistered cherry tomatoes, and it hit the spot as a drinking snack. The menu goes deeper than expected for a bar, with sliders, naan tacos, and charcuterie if you show up hungry. Service was good considering the staff-to-crowd ratio.
