Restaurant was well seat and clean. They only serve beer and wine and have a large bottle list. Dishes were complex and original with amazing flavor. The chief also offers a cook book for sale, that he will personalize and sign for you. We purchased one and our excited to try some of his recipes! read more

The food is clearly the centerpiece at Restaurant Martin. It is ingeniously designed and served impeccably. With each dish having so many interesting aspects to it it, you will also have lively dinner conversation about the meal. For example the creation of the night when I was there had seared grouper joined by two meaty oysters reclining on a pancake of leeks and cauliflower. It was so intriguing not to mention delicious! We saved Restaurant Martin for our last night in Santa Fe and thoroughly enjoyed every bite! The service was excellent and we enjoyed a quiet room all to ourselves. We had: Butternut squash bisque Polenta Salmon Chicken Homemade ice cream for desert Every single thing we had was delicious, interestingly flavored with many notes to enjoy. The servings were plentiful and perfect with exception of the homemade ice cream, that I could have had twice the amount to be completely satisfied. It was offered, but I declined and glad I did because it kind of left me wanting more of this wonderful chef's dishes! Ahh, elegant dining, my favorite. Where to start, where to start? Oh.. duh, the appetizers! I ordered the organic beet and watermelon salad but I asked for no beets. Blech! *shivers* So I basically got a watermelon salad with whipped goat cheese, parmesan crumble, and walnut-peppercorn vinaigrette. Saying as I'm a huge fan of every ingredient I just mentioned, the dish was palatable to say the least. For my entree I ordered the seared Atlantic salmon with rice noodles, spinach shoots, snow peas, ginger root, and lemongrass-mushroom sage. Mmm! First off, the dish was arranged perfectly on the plate. So much in fact that I HAD to take a picture of it. Whoa. It was seriously like eating art. Restaurant Martin, besides the amazing, mouthwatering food, has a very beautiful dining area in the back. Visited Restaurant Martin while in Santa Fe for a wedding.... Coincidentally, the restaurant was mentioned in a NYtimes.com article while I was there so I knew I had to check it out. It was undoubtedly one of the gastronomical highlights from my Santa Fe weekend adventure. Let me begin with my first impression...... Although I managed to write down their opening time wrong and showed up 30 minutes prior to their brunch opening, the wonderful staff at the restaurant sat my party of 4 anyway and offered us menus + water while we waited for the kitchen to be open.... Maybe I've been spoiled by the trendy LA and NYC restauranteur-greater-than-thou attitude... But the fact that their staff even bothered to help us 30 minutes in advance of them being "on the clock" is already an incredible first impression. Bravo to the owner for hiring such an awesome staff. The restaurant has an outstanding outdoor seating area (if the weather permits). It feels like you're sitting in someones backyard... Very cool/casual atmosphere! The corn chowder was outstanding.. It had substance to it (not watery) and felt like a porridge. The gentle sprinkling of spice added a tiny kick that even the most spice-averse palates can stomach. The buffalo burger was also delicous and an absolute must-order for you meat eaters out there. The green chile offered just the right level of zest that makes sante fe cuisine SO FREAKIN' DESIRABLE! I can't recommend this place enough.. If you're in the Santa Fe area, you've got to stop by Restaurant Martin for lunch or dinner, you won't be disappointed. This is a great date place... and the outdoor seating area is not to be missed if the weather permits. read more

Food was excellent. We were the first guests to sit on the patio and done outdoors this season. It is a gorgeous patio. Our service was excellent. The servers are trained in basic sommelier skills and that is helpful. This restaurant is huge & might be ideal for a large party or event. The food was great, the flavors on each dish complement each other on an artistic level. The portions of everything are very small. I had an appetizer and my main course, skipped the bread and wasn't full when I left. The portions are more like tapas portions but they are very, very expensive. Appetizers were around $17 a piece and entrees are north of thirty each. I truly think this place should be four $$$$. Going there thinking it was 3 $$$ as Yelp specifies I felt was a little misleading. In conclusion - the food is magic; but portion sizes and dollar signs made me give it 4 not 5 stars. read more

Last dinner in Santa Fe- here's what I had: Braised Heritage Duroc Pork Belly Guinness-Marcona Almond Mousseline + Maitake Mushrooms Pepper Crumbs + Olive Oil Poached Tomatoes Ginger-Kohlrabi Salad Great flavors melded together in this appetizer- but my only issue was that the pork belly was overcooked/stringy. Perhaps this cut wasn't fatty enough. It wasn't close to fork tender, which I would expect for braised pork belly. Roasted Colorado Lamb Indian Spice Lamb Loin Chickpea Purée + Young Turnips Lamb Cheek Basteeya Sheep's Milk Yogurt Fermented Black Garlic Again, excellent dish- no complaints for this one- the basteeya kind of reminded me of an egg-roll (that might sound sacreligious, but true), but it was tasty. Lamb was done to my liking (medium), and the indian spice was subtle enough to not mask the flavor inherent in the meat. Infinite Monkey Cabernet Franc 2014- whenever I see Cabernet Franc, I get it. This one didn't disappoint. Was light enough for either meat or fish dishes, yet had enough flavor to help cleanse the plate from each bite. A slight tartness to it in a good way. Definitely worth it for a splurge. read more

Went here for our anniversary and honestly we are so happy we chose to spend our special night here. The food was cooked to perfection and the service was everything we needed. August walked us through the menu in a way that really represented restaurant Martin for those who do not know. He nailed it on the wine selection and we even ordered desert! Four of us came in during Restaurant Week, always a good time to try new places. With the four of us, we got to try everything, and the "food reviews" were excellent! Three appetizers were offered; the Wild Mushroom Oyster Leek Soup was superb. (I hope it is on the regular menu as everyone was quite taken with it.) Sometimes mushroom soup is too earthy and strong for me to enjoy, but every bite of this was delicious. A second offering of Duroc pork belly with quail eggs was lovely. The Caesar salad was the only thing on the menu that was below par: hearts of romaine served whole leaf, a slice of pecorino cheese on top with a sourdough crisp. It was just OK, but certainly not to be expected at a top restaurant, and decidedly unglamorous and plain. The entrees were wonderful; chicken breast with potatoes, broccolini, wild mushrooms; black angus strip loin with Yukon gold potato-bacon paillasson, and a wonderful vegetarian tasting plate where every bite was a new experience. The last offering was Scottish salmon with lump crab. It was excellent as well, well seasoned, succulent, but the portion was only about ten bites. Since it was served to a very active man in his thirties, the portion was woefully small. (All of the main dishes had at least four sides.) Desserts came next with choices of three sorbets, three ice creams, caramelized apple tart tatin, or an oh-so-delicious molten bittersweet chocolate cake. We sampled them all. Chocolate will always be my favorite anything, but I moaned in pleasure with this one, and I believe it is always on the menu. It is in their cookbook, for sale at the cash register. That alone may cause me to purchase the cookbook next time I go. I need to add a compliment our server Emilio and all the staff; everything ran smoothly, everyone was friendly, appeared happy to be there, service was given when needed and was unobtrusive. read more

Read about Restaurant Martin in the Washington Post - had to go. Very clear Chef Martin is the driving force behind innovative, creative, sensationally tasty appetizers, entrees and desserts. Some of the things we tried and loved were the Coffee Roasted Beet Salad, with pears, radicchio and a vinaigrette, the roasted butternut squash bisque that comes together at the table. And a special of grilled fish (Dorade) with Swiss Chard and foam. Molten chocolate cake was sweet as was the lemon tart with a raspberry confit. Cool, calm, comfortable, nicely appointed dining room in quiet surroundings enhance the experience. Ample parking. Its no wonder Chef Martin has been nominated for James Beard awards - his food is good. Damn good. I wish him the best in this year's competition. Good restaurant to eat at. It's more of a fine dining experience. The patio was beautiful when eating outside. The patio was covered with a gazebo with heaters (for winter I'm assuming).Expect it to be expensive [around $300 for four adults with no dessert] and classy. When I was here pets (dogs) were allowed in but on a leash. I would go here again!!! Came here as a tourist from Texas. Santa Fe is beautiful and this restaurant just adds to the ambiance. read more

Actually 3.5* Ah--being a tourist in Santa Fe, we are enjoying the incredible variety of upscale and casual restaurants. Much to our surprise and delight, it turned out that this very upscale place was literally a 30 second walk from our B&B. We were quickly seated even though arriving 1/2 hour early for our rather late reservation (when we called to reserve we were told we couldn't be seated until the rather late hour, presumably too crowded before then????). The positives: --very lovely ambience; because the weather was pleasant, the entire venue was essentially patio dining. --fascinating and slightly off-beat menu, with many unusual combinations. --excellent, attentive, and fast service. --the salmon was outstanding. --the accompaniments were unusual and a good variety of tastes and textures. --very large wine list. --unusual choice of dinnerware--all from Crate & Barrel (except maybe the entrée bowls?) --the sauce served with/on the porkchop was unusual and very tasty. The negatives: --the flatware knives bordered on dangerous sitting on the table: the weight balance of the handles keeps serrated edge of the knives always pointing up. --a $6 charge for the bread "basket." True, we were asked by the server before, and we said yes. --presentation of entrees was precious, bordering on pretentious. --about the double-sized porkchop: I asked for it to be somewhat pink. We were told it was cooked "sous vide," then finished with a pan-sear. Turned out that meant overcooked and dry. For what it cost (the most expensive item on the entrée list) ----not acceptable. --great combo of veggies accompanying the pork chop, but the cooked scallions were disappointing--sautéed intact and therefore stringy and difficult to chew; I just hacked off the white ends and ate those. --also--for all the upscale fancy image this place tries to project, the honey served with the hot tea came in a plastic bottle that looked like an Elmer's glue bottle; we had a good laugh about that one. Over all--good place if you like that level of preciousness; we almost regretted not returning for a 3rd night to La Fogata--New Mexican/Mexican casual down-to-earth food !/2 a block from The Plaza. read more

We joined four friends for dinner at Restaurant Martin and couldn't have been more pleased with our evening. We were seated at a great table on the patio and were greeted by our waiter who served us with absolute professionalism. First courses were excellent; from the caesar salad to the pea soup. In fact, the pea soup was one of the best soups I have ever tasted. Entrees were prepared perfectly and beautifully presented. This is a truly wonderful restaurant that will be on our "must return" list on our next visit to Santa Fe. read more

My friend and I had a disappointing experience here on our birthday celebration weekend at the end of March, 2019. I had the duck and my friend had a steak. The steak was very tough. The duck was "swimming" in "aged mirin" which completely drowned out the flavor of the duck breast. BTW they did not give us steak knives! I have to say, the side with sprouted faro and duck was divine! We love good food, no matter the expense. We had fabulous meals at other equally or more expensive restaurants in Santa Fe. Great food, great service, friendly staff. We ordered the fixed price menu for Thanksgiving. Everything from the crudo to the turkey had great presentation and flavors. The server was friendly and upfront about his limited knowledge of the menu since he had been shoveling snow all morning. That did not strike us as self-serving because we got our questions answered. Allowances were made for our dietary restrictions and we even bought the cookbook. read more

We have been here twice in the past month - so we kind of like it. The first time we were here we saw Curtis Stone (for all you food network fans out there) dining! The first time I tried the chicken but this pales in comparison to the prime black angus beef tenderloin. I'm pretty sure I didn't speak throughout the time I was eating it. Try the truffles orzo "Mac and cheese" as a side and you will be a happy camper. Then you have to try the molten bittersweet chocolate cake - they provide a little rubber spatula so you can get every little tasty morsel of chocolate off the plate. Parking is scare so you have to do a little searching. Try to eat out on the patio if it is available - the ambiance there really made our evening. read more

I recently had dinner at Martin's with a party of 12 people, and I'm sorry to say the meal was, at best, mediocre to poor. Specifically, four of us had the same steak entrée, and we all agreed that the meat was so tough as to be virtually inedible--though everyone gave it his or her best shot, as they sawed gallantly away. (I mean you can buy a steak at Trader Joe's that is at least tender!) Several others stated that their meal was just okay--far from first rate. This was an especially embarrassing outcome for me since I was the one who recommended this restaurant to the corporation that sponsored the dinner--the bill for which, by the way, was considerably over $1,000. I hope that Martin's is not following the course of so many high-end restaurants in Santa Fe: great at first and then a kind of hubris sets in that results in slipping and inconsistent quality--not to mention a falling off of food innovation that made the restaurant interesting at the start. It was hard not to think that this may be precisely what is happening at Restaurant Martin. read more

When someone is booking on OpenTable they obviously are trusting reviews. I booked with them weeks before our Xmas dinner with no credit card required. I got 3 different conformation calls within 24 hours from 2 different people the week of reservation. Now they are requesting a cc number...fine. Come to find out upon arrival it was because they completely overbooked their restaurant...let me tell you when you need a credit card to secure a reservation your money speaks louder than your food. The place looked like Carrows but Carrows has a hostess that actually wants to seat you. Light a candle. Coyote Cafe is where you should go. read more

Four starts for good. First, the venue is beautiful with colorful flowers and a lovely garden for dining as well as a very open room with glass paneled garage doors that lifted on 2 sides to make the room well ventilated on two sides. I was a member of a group of 10 diners and the staff treated us well. The menu is definitely unique with unusual and creative flavor combinations. The portions were adequate - not too small and not too large. Everyone in my party said that they enjoyed their meal. My only complaint (besides the fact that I had a bit of food envy over my companions choice of meal vs mine) is that it seemed a tad overpriced, both food and wine. I understand that SF is expensive and that good fresh food is worth the extra. For me, it seemed a little over the top. Having said that, if you have a fat wallet, dress up a little and strut your self over to Restaurant Martin's for a fine meal. read more

Horrible experience - Rude, Inattentive, talked down to us the ONE time we actually flagged someone down to come to the table to discuss a bottle of wine ... sat 30 minutes ... no water, no wine, no bread ... meanwhile table right next to us had it all! Oh and parking is terrible, terrible, terrible! I f you just must go (not sure why) , give yourself extra 20 minutes. When we finally decided to leave, we said something very quietly to one of the owners... she was offended by US and rude as well, never even ask what happened ... guess it comes from the top! The chef is obviously quite talented. The chilled pea and cucumber soup was sublime. My fiancée enjoyed both meals she had here quite a bit. The wine list is excellent. The staff is happy, motivated and accommodating. My one suggestion for improvement concerns the vegetarian and vegan options. There is one veg/vegan option listed among the entrees, with no description. It turns out that is because it consists only of that evening's sides. I received a boring collection of wheat berries, spinach, sweet potatoes, daikon, carrots, and asparagus. It was $26. I was disappointed to say the least. I wonder why such a talented chef would not take the time to design and prepare a composed vegetarian entree, when he has so many composed dishes with meat as the centerpiece. read more
