Ok. First off...yes, I had the cricket taco. It was lemony and a bit spicy. Altogether, very tasty...and it goes without saying you get bragging rights *pics are required or it didn't happen*. There guacamole is sooo good. Perfect...and this is critical because it is such a simple dish and most people can't get it right. BUT, this place does. Also, the tortillas de maiz are noice. So fluffy, and warm, and add flavor to anything they touch with the exception of any beverages. They are good and are a reason I go back. I had their signature dish with the shrimp and the white cream sauce over rice. It was good. It could do with a bit more character, but I'm no cook to tell the Reyes how to do their thang. A bit of a spicy bite would make it perfect on my plate, but not for any other person that walks through the door. The place is hard to find and harder to park around, but it somehow draws people in. Bell's Restaurant Mole de Los Reyes. Horchata, Cochinita Pibil, veal filet with black mole, cream of grasshopper, plantain with tequila sauce and cheese fondue with chorizo. All very good but if you go, you HAVE TO get the plantain with tequila sauce, cheese fondue with chorizo (God, the chorizo is so flavorful)! Parking is somewhat scarce and the place is a hole in the wall gem. The food is just great and the service is good too. Definitely recommend going if you are interested in a restaurant that leans closer to Pre-Hispanic cuisine [before European influence]. Chef Camacho is an incredibe. I don't consider myself a foodie but, I am Xicana and love to eat. I love it so much that I stay out of the kitchen and let my wonderful husband handle it. :) Rocio's Mole de Los Dioses elevated my experience for Mexican food a few notches. I've visited the restaurant twice. The first time I was there with friends. Service and food were incredible; from the guacamole, mole and chips, to empanada appetizers and my main course: emoladas de pollo with the mole poblano. We also had dessert: flan con rompope, platanos al tequila & beso de angel ice cream, hecho en casa. I sealed it with a cup of "cafe de olla" that was delicious and authentic, even better than I remember growing up. However, I wanted to make sure that the going the second time would be just as great. I hoped the first time wasn't a fluke because my friend was a regular and thus, would have preferential treatment. I am happy to say that it was not. I went with my family for my Father-in-law's birthday and received the same great service. Because some in our party were unfamiliar with the different moles, they allowed us to try them all and pick our favorite to marry with our meal. My kids loved there limonada con chia and I had glass of the horchata with fruit and toasted pumpkin seeds. Both pair great with everything we had. This time, I tried the pipian rojo. Superb! My mom and I arrived late afternoon on a Sunday a couple weeks ago. It wasn't very busy but then we noticed there was only one guy, a friendly guy. That one guy was the host, cashier, busser, and waiter. We had some delicious aguas, an horchata that was more like a meal (it came with a spoon!) and a jamaica. Then we placed our order for appetizers and waited and waited and waited. Some more people came in and then I got worried. Then the multi-tasking man took our order. I was starving after a few hours of being at The Ronald Reagan Library and as my stomach growled, a plate of three empanadas arrived. My mom ordered them and it's not like me to not know what was ordered, but she taught me to have the palate that I have, so I didn't question her. I ate them with delight. My tongue was pleased with every bite I took. The first one was filled with some type of black filling, the second cheese with red sauce, and the third, squash blossom. I apologize for my lack of detail but I was so surprised at the tastes and smells that I was flabbergasted. I stopped thinking about the poor multi-tasking man and how hungry I was. I was appeased by the intricacy of the empanadas and the horchata treat. Soon after, my seafood enchiladas arrived. WOW! The sauce tasted like tomatillo with avocado and lime perhaps? Something very delicious and flavorful. My mom kept dipping her handmade tortillas in my green sauce. My mom had the mole Oaxaqueño and the chicken served was a breast and I've never had it served that way so it was a nice surprise not to have to work for my pollo. The sauce had a great taste and consistency. It was a dark color not too bitter. You must try this hidden gem to give your taste buds a jump for joy. Did I mention that our empanadas were also comped due to the wait time? We didn't even complain so I think that based on the quality and taste they were outstanding but they recovered from that busy day. Eating a meal prepared at Moles De Los Reyes is a must for everyone. I live close to this place and finally decided to try it for dinner, and boy, did it blow my mind. My friend and I were the only diners on a weekday evening, and were warmly greeted by our server, Sergio. We quickly got down to business and attempted to order as much food as our eyes could see. We had the cochinita pibil and shrimp tacos as appetizers, and they were a perfect way to start the meal. I preferred the cochinita pibil taco, it was perfectly seasoned, and the onions accompanying it had the right kick. My dining companion wanted to try the guacamole, and I being a bit of a food snob was on the verge of shaking her for wanting to order such a boring dish, when Sergio informed us that they prepared it with passionfruit and habanero chiles! It was awesome. The tortilla soup was damn near perfect, whether it be a hot day, or when you're feeling under the weather, it hit the spot. I had the Diosa Mayahuel, shrimp in a tequila sauce as my entree. This has to be the best dish I have possibly had in my whole life. We finished off with the plantains in tequila sauce for dessert. I have to say that throughout our dinner, I couldn't help but to feel that we were eating with all of our senses. From the presentation of the food, to the color, flavors, and textures of everything, The food is like a great piece of art. I was giddy with anticipation as we waited for each dish to be brought out by our attentive server. If mole is an art, then Chef Camacho is the master of her craft. You will not find tacos or burritos on this menu; and dollops of sour cream and piles of cheese have been seemingly banned from this restaurant. There are plenty of other restaurants that do that kind of "Mexican" food; fortunately, you have found one that is a distant cousin to that style of cooking. Rocio's executes one of the most honest interpretations of southern Mexican cooking with panache and soul. Her Moles (pronounced moh-lays for the uninitiated) are divine, worthy of a trek from all parts to this seven table establishment. Her empanadas are flaky and delicate. Her Cafe de la Olla (Coffee) is intoxicating, and I never walk away without drinking at least 3 cups of this elixir. Dessert- well, please make sure you leave room for her desserts. The wait staff is helpful & knowledgeable, and the service is expedient. As glorious as this restaurant is, it does have its weaknesses. When I ordered the filet mignon, I found the meat to be overcooked. My salmon, while tasty, was clearly frozen at some point. The medley of vegetables (squash, carrots & onions) make an appearance on all main dishes; they are good, but the haphazzard overuse almost dares to make them disposable. The decor, something I rarely comment upon, must be addressed: it takes away from the dining experience and looks cheap. At the end of the day, eating at Rocio's is a revelation. You will gladly dismiss any of the weaknesses I mentioned the moment the food touches your lips. I strongly recommend you make Rocio's a regular stop on your dining circuit. read more

I love their seafood enchilada with salsa verde. The tortillas themselves are excellent. They taste better than any tortilla I have tasted. Pair that with perfectly cooked seafood and a tasty salsa verde and it is one of the best seafood enchiladas I have tasted. This and the Cafe de Olla made me give this restaurant 5 stars. The other food was stellar but more like 4 star. I enjoyed trying their trio of empanadas but I think it was more the fact that I was trying corn fungus, than the taste, that got me excited about the dish. The empanadas were a little bland on their own but the salsa they provide to you with the chips perked it right up. Horchata was tasty. Better than most places but I still prefer tamale man. It was pretty much the same horchata as Mole Tia? or Tia Mole? The roasted pumpkin seeds and sugar rim tasted a bit better at Rocio's though. The strawberry orange? fresca was just okay. No real fruit chunks and kinda fake tasting. We should have taken the waitress's offer to taste it before we ordered it. The salmon with mole verde was also good. I still prefer the salsa verde honestly but the mole was way better than that Gueltazca place that Jonathon Gold reviewed and had on his top 100 places to try list. Burnt milk ice cream was recommended by the waitress and it was also tasty. Creamy with a slight hint of the burnt flavor. Cafe de Olla was dispensed out of the big things that keep coffee warm. Once I saw that I admit, I got a bit snobbish and thought, its not going to be good. BUT it was so tasty. We usually drink our coffee without sugar but the sweet cinnamon-y flavor of the coffee was really tasty. It didn't taste burnt or have the usual old coffee taste or smell. I will be back to get their seafood enchilada and try some more items on their menu. read more

The location is a bit sketch but the mole here most definitely holds up to its name--truly de Los Dioses! I came here on a Wed night with a friend. The place is pretty small, but luckily there were only a few customers. The waiter was extremely friendly and offered us his suggestions. We both opted for the filet mignon with the mole de los dioses (I mean we had to see what the fuss was about, right?) Delicious! The meat was soft and perfectly cooked. It complemented the mole very nicely. The mole itself was which was a bit sweet which I liked, and just the right level of chunky/saucy. The food also comes with rice and veggies. The portion is perfect...filling, but you could easily eat a dessert or an appetizer and still be okay. The tortillas that come with the meals are made at the restaurant which is awesome. I also really liked the chips and salsa that came at the beginning (although that salsa definitely had a kick to it). My oh my. So there are 20 of us enjoying the sampler plate. Outstanding! I had the Veal in the Mole de Reyes sauce. Scrumptious ! The waitress, Marlene? Patient, knowledgable and a sweetheart when handling a big crowd that kept sending her back for refills on their delicious beverages and more and more tortillas to dip into all the succulent sauces. While while the bill was taking forever to get paid, the owner/cook brought out a complimentary dessert, enough for all of us; A total of 3 plates ! Did I try it you dare ask? AHHHHMMAAZING! Went to place on a wing, and it was a great surprise. My friends and I are fans of Mi Casita Mexicana, but this place completely blows them away! The food was absolutely delicious and everything tasted fresh and handmade. It's on a side street which doesn't give it much street traffic, but that says nothing to the quality of the food and delicacy in which they prepare and serve it. Everything from the drinks to the pastries is delicious. Make sure to leave room for the pastries, they're some of the best I've tried in a very long time (and i'm a foodie)! I was here about a month ago with some friends. We the Tres Sabores empanadas and three different moles: Mole de los Dioses, Mole de Cafe, and Pipian Rojo. They were all really tasty, but if I could eat the de los Dioses every day, I would. It was so incredible, complex, and flavorful -- absolutely fantastic. Also, as a self-proclaimed horchata fiend, I loved their pumpkin-seed version. It was very unique and of course delicious. The service was just adequate, but the food is the key player. It's unconscionable giving this place just one star because of service, so tsk tsk to whomever did that below. I doubt you'll find better mole in a 300 mile radius and Rocio's Yelp review should justly reflect that. read more

As the other reviews suggest, this unassuming little restaurant is indeed a gem. And you would be missing out to pass it up. Hole in the wall spots are my favorite, and this place did not disappoint. The mole sampler platter had the richest, most unique mole sauces that I've ever had. I think it was habanero, pistachio, and I think two others. All were delicious. Also tried a grasshopper taco for the first time in my life, and I was pleasantly surprised. The grasshoppers were small, crunchy, yet somehow meaty. Like maybe lighter, crispier dried shrimps? Idk, but they were lemony, spicy, and overall very good. Check this place out for a truly unique Mexican dining experience. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll be sure to stop by. We found this place on yelp and noted the rating and the good reviews so we decided to check it out. We were NOT disappointed. My friends and I spent our dinner time trying each other's dishes and couldn't stop talking about how great the food was. I had the enchiladas enmoladas, everything about this dish was amazing down to the rice and the beans. The mole was ahhhmazing!!!! The horchata and agua de Jamaica y Fresa,Delicious!!!! Let me not forget the dessert, we tried all three (guayaba con rompope, flan de rompope, and plantain in a tequila sauce) truly fantastic!!! Incredibly authentic, and every detail in their food is taken into consideration. This place is a tiny, hidden (literally) gem. I've had 4 of their moles and they're all incredibly delicious. Most people boil the chicken and then cook it with the mole afterward, but here they grill a chicken breast fillet with what tastes like butter and lemon sauce then put mole on top. They then stack it on a bed of rice, grilled carrots & zucchini. I love Oaxacan Mexican food and this place is spot on. Their horchata with pink sugar and pumpkin seeds is the best Oaxacan horchata I've tasted as well. We ended the night with Reina del Universo dessert, which is a plantain topped with a tequila (rompompe?) sauce. Probably the highlight of the evening. People seriously need to support this place, I've gone twice and seen not too many people. I strongly believe if they were in a better location, they'd be a hit; they're a bit hidden and in an industrial area. Btw, their mole is on par with the neighboring and highly-acclaimed La Casita Mexicana; who I love very much as well. I probably like this place overall more though, and they're cheaper. Rocio's Mole de los Dioces is simply the BEST!!!! The mole verde over chicken or salmon is my favorite, but honestly you can't go wrong picking any of their flavorful and authentic moles. Don't be afraid to get adventurous and try something out of your comfort zone, like the sopa campesina or the trio de empanadas. Don't question what it's made out of and just eat with delight. Try a fondue (especially the one made with chorizo!). And please don't forget to order a wonderful agua... their horchata made with pepitas or their agua de nopal. Seriously, they are so so so good! And if you skip dessert, you'll be sorry! They have an ice-cream made from mezcal! Not only is it delightfully balanced, but it might give you a good buzz too. As advertised, this place serves various empyrean moles. I'm a vegetarian and enjoyed their "exotica" dish, which contained cuitlacoche--foodies will know this as "corn smut", a fungus that grows on corn. And you thought that only meat eaters had odd food options. It lends a smoky, slightly sweet taste to the mole and dish proper and is excellent. The mole sampler is not to be missed--I mean, you came here for mole, right? We tried the aforementioned and eponymous cuitlacoche mole, aka "Mole de los Dioses". I really didn't mind having it both as a sampler and an entree. Pipián is also tasty (that's a pumpkin seed mix), and the Oaxaqueño was a classic, spicy, all-in mole. The salsa mandarina was too tart for some party members; others loved it. There are enough moles on the list to satisfy a group of diverse tastes. People have mentioned that service is slow. Yup, it is. Try flagging people down, or just relax and savor the mole. Minus one star for that. Like I really care that much. So far, this place appears to be not well known or something. Crispy. Spicy. delicious. I'm pretty sure they lace it with crack because those things are fire. Horchata - I always order Horchata whenever I get the chance. I've had good Horchata, I've had bad Horchata... but this Horchata takes the cake. It's sweet but not too sweet and the flavor is soooooooo good. Honest, friendly service and great authentic food. Truthfully, i have passed by this place many many times but never gave it consideration because of its location. I mean it is really a hole in the wall type restaurant. The inside is completely different. Very clean with children's culture art decorations as well as notable reviews on the wall. You would never think this would be one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants around. Yelp brought me and my family here. The best mole Poblano, cochinita pibil, and borrego con nopales. Homemade tortillas go great with the meals too. And let me not forget to mention the coffee. Wow!! Best coffee around. I mean Starbucks and tierra mia are good and strong but this coffee is delicious. It had a cinnamon flavor. You don't have to add creamer or sugar because it is made with Mexican brown sugar, piloncillo. This place is a must try for everyone who enjoys authentic home made Mexican food.
