As a picky Salvi girl, I'm signing off on this place. I first tried their food at Concord's weekly summer market (they had a booth set up), and it was fantastic. We ordered 2 pupusas - one bean and cheese and another revuelta, pastelitos and empanadas de leche. The beans in the pupusas were super flavorful, and they had the right amount of toasting as. If you are familiar with pupusas, you know what I'm talking about. The empanadas were also great. The milk custard inside was the right thickness and the right sweetness. They didn't have sugar on the outside, but they didn't even need it. The pastelitos were also dope. I enjoyed my meal so much that I came back the next morning for breakfast. We got huevos con loroco and an order of platanos. Again, the refried beans were bangers and they actually use Salvadoran sour cream, so that's a huge plus. They also carry a good selection of Salvi beer and drinks, including horchata and cola champagne. read more

We were treated poorly and felt rushed when it came to placing our order. Not just that but they rolled their eyes when we asked for our check. This place has almost all of their chairs up when you walk in, you would think it was closed so it took us a good two minutes to find out they were open. All the cooks and everything just stood there as we found our own seat with no greeting or help. Also, there is no decor on the walls. First time trying this place as delivery, and couldn't believe the low rating here on yelp :-( This is gorgeous food! I have no idea what it's like to dine-in, but my delivery experience was great. The pupusas are so yummy, great texture and a large variety of filling options (love loroco and cheese). The crema is awesome, perfect flavor and consistency, and so is the red sauce that goes with the pupusas. The plain corn tamales are also very good, slightly sweet, and w/ the red sauce and crema even better. The real surprise, though, were the plantains stuffed with beans, OMG, what a flavor combo. The cabbage side dish was plentiful and just right. I love how you can order a side of eggs, too. I hope they sort out whatever kinks caused them to have such a low rating, because the food is divine! read more

This is my go-to to pupusas! 5/5! My family and I frequently order out from here. I definitely call in early to place an order, as pupusas can take time. The pupusas themselves are hefty -- I can only eat 1 or 2 before I have to tap out. Their curtido is flavorful, which I enjoy a LOT! We actually order extra sometimes. The red sauce is good too! I don't know why this restaurant is so lowly reviewed. Staff has always been nice and when i ask for something outside of the menu, they usually explain why they can't or why it would incur a separate charge. I've eaten in twice before. The lights are dimmed just a bit for some added ambiance and there are plenty of tables. Food prep does take a while hut they give you free chips and salsa at the table to hold you over. Parking is limited...if you can't find parking, try one of the parking garages on the opposite side of the plaza. read more

I ordered DoorDash for my husband and I for dinner and was pretty impressed by the taste of the food. I was surprised about the negative reviews I saw on Yelp, so I figured I'd chime in. I am new to Concord and usually eat Salvadoran food from Hayward. The food is delicious and comparable to the places I've eaten. I ordered the pescado frita, yucca con chicharon, corn tamales and pupusas. Everything was delicious. The rice was one of the best rice I've tasted! It seems like they use a short grain rice that was a bit stickier than normal. The food was well seasoned and all of it arrived fresh and nicely packaged. Not sure if the complaints are mostly about the service, but the food is very tasty. I will definitely order from here again. Forgot to mention, they also have RICE pupusas. Those are pretty hard to find!!! I only took a pic of my pescado, since my baby was crying and refused to let me enjoy my food! Anyway, you should give this place a try! The place isn't super cute for a date and if you're expecting a valet and outstanding service, this isn't it. The ambiance isn't anything to write home about, but if you want to grab some BOMB food to sit and enjoy at todos santos park or grab the perfect after work snack, this is the place. First impressions are everything, and this place missed the mark. We walked in, didn't understand if we were to sit at a table to order or order at the counter. There was one patron seated. The pupusas are pretty good but the service is s.l.o.w... The Salvadoran tamales are also pretty good. The platanos were ripe and sweet. I also ordered the Bistec Salvadoreño. Tough meat (as expected). It's pretty much carne asada with tomato sauce and grilled onions. The refried beans were delicious! Reminds me of the way my husband's grandmother used to make them. Sadly when we got there, our clean table was dirty. Other tables who sat after us were being served before us. So I think, maybe they preordered then walked in to sit. I don't know. Overall, I don't know if I'll be back. There are better places to go. We just came here because my father in law was too tired to cook. Yum!! We ordered the "plato tipico" with a rice pupusa (I had only ever had pupusas made with corn dough before), the pollo asado, and the "plato Salvadoreño". Everything was delicious! The tortillas are very thick, the rice was nice and buttery, and the beans were very smooth. I loved that we got to taste a little of everything. Nothing was bad. And it was great value. Delicious Salvadoran food! If you order in advance (I did through the Yelp app), pickup is easy and convenient; keep in mind preparation may take awhile, so keep that in mind whether you're dining in or buying takeout. The location is nice, nestled between other restaurants on the block across from Todos Santos Plaza. They have a shared free parking lot that almost always has space, but if it doesn't, the area has free parking pretty much everywhere. The food is affordable and tastes authentic! In the best way possible, it feels like a home-cooked meal. I got two pupusas for lunch (revueltas & jalapeño con queso, $4 each), which were more than enough to leave me satisfied and full. The fillings are cheesy and rich, and go perfectly with the fresh, acidic curtido (spicy cabbage salad/slaw) and salsa roja that come with orders of pupusas. The curtido and salsa do seem to come in Ziploc bags in to-go orders, so if you're not a fan of that or slow service, beware. Otherwise, I highly recommend Restaurante El Salvador to anyone in the area who's craving Salvadoran cuisine or wants to give it a try. read more

I've come here for the pupusas. I think their service inside could be improved because the one time I dine in, they took a very long time. However, the last few times I did take out and I didn't have a problem at all. I did have to order 45 minutes ahead for like 6 pupusas. The owner is very nice and friendly. My mother was in the hospital nearby and she asked me to go to this restaurant and order her a beef soup with mostly cabbage and yucca. Yucca is sort of a dense potato like that goes into soups. I emphasize that to the man over the phone. I went in to pick my order up and took it to my mother in the hospital and we discovered that they did not put the yucca in. I had to call the restaurant tell them again they have forgotten to put the yucca in I have to waste my gas go back all the way to the restaurant and pick up the yucca. This restaurant has very bad service and does not seem to pay attention to the customers for the request they make about their food.
