    Mango sticky rice

Amazing restaurant! So glad this came to town. Came here with my mom for dinner. They had plenty of vegetarian options. My mom and I shared spring rolls and the sauce was to die for. She had chicken wings and chicken pad Thai and she said it was excellent. I had tofu mango curry. The owner also brought out mango sticky rice which was the perfect end to the meal! The service is excellent and efficient. We're never without something to eat. The he dining area was cute and clean. We will definitely be back! Highly recommended!

This is a newly opened Thai and Lao restaurant, which is a great addition to Pittsburg, which has been in long need of a local Thai takeout spot. We got the Pad Thai, Som Tum (Papaya Salad), and Pad Krapow (Thai holy basil stir fry). Everything tasted delicious, my only feedback is that the food was a little sweet overall, but they're probably catering to people who are used to sweet Thai takeout. The pad Krapow could have been seasoned more heavily with oyster sauce or fish sauce, spicier, and use less dark soy sauce. I'm happy that they opened and hope they can do well! Go and support this local business, because Pittsburg needs more local spots like these that add to the diversity of the dining there. Last thing I would add is that the people who run this place are Laotian, not Thai (though they both speak Thai). So I would encourage you to try the Lao dishes like: Laotian papaya salad, laab (Lao laab is different than Thai laab), Khao piak and Nam Khao. Those are the dishes I'm planning on trying on my next visit.

Zaep Mekong has wonderful food and welcoming service, with reasonable prices across the menu. The dining room feels warm and relaxed, soft lighting, wooden tables, and simple Southeast Asian decor create a cozy, unpretentious atmosphere that suits a casual meal or a low-key date night. Background music is quiet enough to talk over, and the staff's friendly presence adds to the comfortable, homey vibe. It can be difficult to find Lao restaurants, or Thai places that include Lao or Lao-style dishes, and Zaep Mekong blends the two cuisines very nicely. If you like Thai food, it's worth giving Lao food a try because it's very similar and just as good; if you're looking to try Lao food, Zaep Mekong is a tasty and authentic option. Khao piek was very flavorful, and my favorite savory dish was the Lao sausage with sticky rice and dipping sauce. For dessert, both the mango sticky rice and the mango mousse were delicious.

Delicious, tasty, and good size portions. I found Zaep Mekong while looking for a tasty curry and since the place is new, I decided to give it a try. I called ahead to place an order for dine in and they told me the food would be ready very quickly. I said okay, I'll be there. It took about 3 minutes for the food to arrive at my table. I was pleasantly surprised by the portion size, the presentation of the food, and ultimately the flavor. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for tasty Lao and Thai food. Last but not least, the price matches perfectly with the quality and amount of food you are getting.

Between our group, we got Sakoo, Nam Khao, Fried Clear Rice Roll Wraps, Sai Oua (Lao Sausages), Crispy Pork Belly, Pad Kee Mao, and a large side of Sticky Rice. Of the dishes, the Nam Khao was a standout favorite for me. I loved how crispy and crunchy the fried rice was in the dish. There were so many layers of flavors and textures from the fish sauce, the peanuts, and the fermented sour pork. If there's one dish you must order when you stop by here, it's this one. Another dish I really enjoyed was the Sai Oua; I get this dish whenever I see it at restaurants. Although I've had Lao sausages which were very heavy in lemongrass flavor, the ones here did not have the same flavor profile. Instead, the ones here leaned more towards the spicy side. The crispy pork belly was another standout dish for me. If you enjoy Filipino lechon or Cantonese siu yuk, this is another must-order dish. The pork is well seasoned and has the perfect ratio of lean to fatty parts. Overall, I had wonderfully delicious meal. I would certainly recommend coming as a large group so you're able to order a wide variety of dishes. If you're looking for something to really excite your taste buds, head over to Bhan Mae Vane.

NOTE: fried items (most pre-made) much better when re-heated at home Would return but definitely not in the summer where it gets hot and food sitting would make me question buying. Hidden gem in El Sobrante that serves up some of the best Laotian and Thai food in the Bay Area…read more Every time we visit, must-orders are the Nam Khao (crispy rice ball salad with fermented pork sausage and fresh herbs) and Ka Soy (Laotian noodle soup). If you see Nam Khao on the menu of a Laotian/Thai restaurant, that means they know what they are doing just because it's so labor-intensive to make a salad(!) and the fermented pork has to be damn-near perfect for this salad to really shine and round out the fresh herbs and seasonings which includes lime juice, vinegar, and fish sauce. Ka Soy (the noodle soup) is a comfort food enjoyed in Southeast Asia. It's not the Thai-style where it's a curry broth and the noodles are fried, so let's not get it mixed up. Instead, it's bone broth that been simmered for hours and it's somewhat a lighter broth. The noodles are wide rice noodles in a big bowl of hot broth served with a mixture of ground pork cooked down with tomatoes along with fresh bean sprouts, scallions, and cilantro - simply a divine noodle soup that a must-try. It's not overly complex in terms of flavor, but it's a bowl of good ol' noodle soup that is comforting and great-tasting. If you haven't tried Laotian food, give Sue's Kitchen a try. try some new flavors and you may just become a regular (if you aren't already). The owners are friendly too!
