Food in and around Seward was tough this summer. We ended up here because we planned to hit up the famous Salmon Bake right when they opened, but they were closed due to lack of staff. Ended up at the Roadhouse instead. General experience was as follows: food - OK. Cocktails - awful. Wine - good. Service - excellent. I had the halibut on the recommendation of the waitress, the fish was great but the quinoa beneath it was more like a soggy English pudding. My husband had the burger, the fries were excellent. Burger itself was ok. I'd come back simply for the view and the service, but do not order cocktails - my husband ordered two fairly straightforward ones and they both tasted like bad fruit punch. read more

Yummy!!! The bacon wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese on a plate of blue cheese crumbles drizzled with balsamic was so incredibly delicious we ordered another one. The service was wonderful, the food was great, and we had a fantastic time. After our meal we sat at the bar and laughed over some drinks. With our table of 5 we ordered the giant pulled pork nachos, bison burger with bacon and blue cheese, seared salmon over veggies, Halibut with asparagus, BBQ pork pizza, seafood chowder, and sweet potato fries with lemon aioli. All of the food was fabulous!! At the bar were local beers on tap and an 18 yr Macallan which was an amazing digestif. The next day we ordered a lunch portion of fish and chips and the serving was so small. It came with a soup and a side but they only gave you 2 small chunks of fried fish with French fries. For $17 we feel like there should've been more fish on that plate. Other than that, I recommend this place for good food and great times. read more

After an exciting day of sightseeing, we stumbled onto this little gem in our way to Exit Glacier. We passed it due to the signage not visible until you're on top of the place. I suggest they move the sign closer to the road since the trees and bushes obstruct the view. We were greeted right away and seated in a very nicely appointed dining room. The bar is just off the dining area. I applaud them in keeping their menu down to two pages. We ordered the Roadhouse burger, variations of course. A couple of brews from their on tap menu (12 offered). My companions enjoyed the brews. When ordering a burger there, you're asked if you want condiments. Be sure to ask for Mayo if you want it. The fries are hand cut. They're fried just right and a decent amount of them is a serving and a condiment cup of ketchup is provided with them. You will not see a bottle of ketchup, Mayo or mustard there. It's served in tiny condiment cups. I found the prices typical Alaskan $$. The variety of menu choices is nice. There's soups, salads, appetizers, burgers, steaks, pasta and sushi. The restrooms were very clean and nicely decorated. All in all it is a nice reflection of Seward. read more

The food was terrible. I had the seared halibut at $36, and the fish was okay at best. But everything else was bad. The quinoa was old and dried out - inedible. I ate the beets, although I don't like them, because that's all there was. My wife had the vegetarian cauliflower dish, and it was inedible. We left after eating 1/3 of our meals. Do not waste your money or calories on the king crab legs. Bread was good, house salad and chowder were good, but... pretty sure the king crab legs were frozen in 1959 when Alaska became a state and then thawed and overcooked today. Our experience was absolutely terrible. They were way overpriced and not tasty at all. We got into town late and looked for places open to grab a quick bite. We got take out chicken sandwich, beyond burger, and tempura cauliflower, no drinks. The tab was $50 (!) and the food was inedible. The fries were burnt, it tasted like they had been previously cooked then re-fried to heat up. No ketchup. My kid wouldn't even eat them. The sandwiches were dry, no condiments, no Mayo, just toasted bread. Everything tasted old and overcooked. We took a few bites then threw it out. I wouldn't eat here again. I can't believe this restaurant only gets three stars and a half. That's the reason we didn't go to this place the first day. We went to a four star restaurant closed by and got robbed! We had an excellent dinner at Resurrection Roadhouse! Everything was hot and fresh. The seafood chowder was delicious, as was the halibut fish and chips. Service was super friendly and very attentive. It was a great spot, and super convenient to the Windsong Lodge, which is out from town a ways. The breakfast is shameful, but dinner is surprisingly tasty and interesting to boot. First, the AM scene - buffet for $18.5, which for a buffet is inexpensive, but for 4 hot items (eggs, sausage, French toast, potatoes), fruit tasting of chemicals, three types of muffins, and cardboard granola + yogurt, it's not worth it. To add insult to injury, the coffee is barely drinkable. I'll admit that it's foolish of me to even eat a kiwi this far North, given that I feel certain this little fruit hasn't seen it's mother tree in months - but, it is the chef's decision to plate it, and as a result, it should've been edible. False. Safest bets are the steel cut oats (watery one AM, nice and thick the next) or the gravlax bagel. Dinner is a different ball game - the roadhouse salad (grapes, greens, pecans, apple) is a little sweet, but tempered nicely by a surprisingly delish lime jalapeño vinaigrette - weird combo for a salad, but it works. The caprese was enjoyed as well. Oh, table mates also had the coconut shrimp and the nachos - both of which were adequately prepared - though the nacho cheese looked a little too much like Velvetta for my taste, so I rejected it on principle. The cioppino, grilled halibut, and salmon salad were all winners. I don't know where in AK they found Meyer lemons for the vinaigrette, but man am I glad that they did - bright, light, nom nom nom. Tickets for dessert are either banana froyo or the homemade s'mores. Portions are appropriate - it's probably $45-50/pp, depending on if you get starters, desserts, booze, etc. Worth a special trip? No. But, if you're in Seward, it's probably better than anything else you're going to get for din. Oh, and avoid for breakie at all costs. read more

Thank you for helping me find the world's worst pizza. I would think that a restaurant that prides itself on quality would have something a little better then crust made from New Jersey. The pizza was not cooked the toppings were sparse and the taste of the dough was awful. I would rather eat the pizza from the local gas station. I don't know, the texture just bothered me a bit. Also the crispy onion things atop the steak pizza were really, really strange. Kind of like burnt BBQ fritos, almost. Foods expensive and sometimes isn't consistent but good for the most part. Staff is all really friendly and have eaten here multiple times and enjoy it very much and would recommend this as a place to eat if anyone asked. 4 stars for consistency and higher prices for less food although it's more about the consistency as prices are that much higher then anywhere else in town. read more

Recommend the nachos, Brussels sprouts and the beet salad. We got the cheese pizza and the Margarita pizza and both fall into the "good" category. It's a really good option if you're in the mood for something other than fish (although they have that here too). Make sure to sit on the patio to be able to order from a different menu (unlike the fancy menu in the restaurant, go to the grill/bar side). And it comes with a great view! read more

Incredibly expensive for the quality of food. We tried this place for breakfast and couldn't believe the price of some of the most basic items. If we ever find ourselves at the Windsong in Seward again, we'll be taking their free shuttle into town for breakfast. We also were turned off and didn't bother with dinner for the same reason. I went with my wife who is a vegetarian. My food was good (it was a seafood stew, they call it creole). But they had not much for vegetarians. The chef likes to put butter and cheese in all of his dishes (we were told by the server) and that's what we found in all of our dishes. So if you want to eat unhealthy for a day loaded with tons of fat, please go to this place. The service was excellent so I am giving 3 stars. read more

While this was my first time to this restaurant, I felt like I have been to this same restaurant many times before. There was a wait but it was only 5 minutes, even though there were at least 3 other parties before us. The Roadhouse is owned by the hotel nearby which has a few locations and I think it is why everything seemed so standard. If you are visiting while on your cruise vacation you have probably eaten this same food and seen the same decor on a few of your stops. However, it is in a great location if you are spending the day at Exit Glacier and it ended up being very filling. The setting is casual, I didnt feel bad arriving in my hiking clothes, although I changed my shirt before going in. There is outdoor seating available and a bar with the full menu. I had the Creole Bouillabaisse which was an awesome stew of crab, halibut, salmon, cod, shrimp, and sausage for 30 dollars (not gluten-free). The salmon was a bit over cooked but I would order it again. My boyfriend had the flat iron steak which he said was tasty but was pretty small. My friend had the French Pork chop which she enjoyed. We started with 2 appetizers, the bacon wrapped dates and coconut prawns, both of which were much bigger proportions than we expected which was a pleasant surprise (I wish the prawns were more coconutty). My boyfriend was able to get the berry cobbler without the crumbles on top served over ice cream, making it a gluten free dessert. Entrées are between 25 and 35 dollars, they have local beers on tap, and proportions are decent. Eat here after a day of hiking when you are hungry and want to know youll be ok with whatever you order ( American cuisine). read more

Stopped for lunch after passing several times during my days in Seward. We were seated alone on the patio with an amazing view! We ordered a salmon sandwich to split and two bowls of chowder. I had chowder every day I was in Alaska and this was one of my absolute favorites. Honestly, the food I had I would give a five. Also, I didn't think it was too pricey. Our tab was $30. The view I would give a 10! The service was just OK. They were slow to the point that it felt like we were forgotten, which shouldn't have happened because there were no outside tables, but us and only two inside tables. However, at the same time I just didn't care because my food came and we were enjoying a leisurely lunch on vacation. I would definitely go back though next time I'm in Seward. read more

You can't beat the views from the deck at this place! I believe the outside seating is for those eating at Goliath's Bar which is right next to the main restaurant and has a slightly different menu. I had the margarhita pizza which was delicious and my husband and son both had burgers which the said were ok (too much bun). Staying at the windsong in an overpriced room, i was unsure of the restaurant associated with it. I'm very glad i gave it a try!! The service was excellent. Aaron made sure everything came at an appropriate pace. He was good to offer suggestions. We started with the ricotta stuffed, bacon wrapped dates drizzled with blu cheese crumbles and balsamic glaze. I was particularily impressed with this appetizer. The flavors were amazing. I would suggest this as a starter for anyone looking for some unique flavors that marry nicely. Next i had the seafood chowder. It was good but didnt have many chucks of seafood in it. It was more small flakes of halibut, and a few bigger chunks of mussels, i didnt notice any crab chunks. However, the flavor was good, very good. I followed the soup with the halibut meal. Pan roasted in brown butter served with broccoli and risotto. The halibut was cooked excellently. However the brocolli was a bit over done and the risotto was under cooked. After everything that was exceptional, i over looked the less than stellar broccoli. My other had pizza. The crust was some of the best ive ever had for think crispy crust. I highly recommend this place. And if you're drinking, the bar has several berry muddled choices. My favorite was the one with citron and rasberries and blackberries. The Resurrection Roadhouse is the restaurant associated with the Windsong Lodge. It is located just north of Seward on the road to Exit Glacier. Because it is associed with the lodge, they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The first time we went there was for lunch. We were on a tour and the they took us there for lunch. We ordered the fish (cod) & chips. they were so good that we went back for dinner the next day. I had a chicken and mushroom dish and my wife had a salmon dish. They were excellent. By far, this restaurant is far superior to both Ray's and Chinooks. The Lodge runs a shuttle all day to/from downtown Seward. So, if you don't have a car, you can still go to the roadhouse for lunch or dinner. It's worth the 5 minute ride. read more

On a chilly night, I was in need of something warm. I found the CREOLE BOUILLABAISSE. I'm not a big fan of sausage so I didn't eat it but I did clean the bowl with the bread brought out at the beginning of our meal. Just what I wanted, a thick, rich, piping hot bowl of yum, packed with all kinds of seafood, crab, mussels. Perfect. Pricey? Yes. Delicious? Yes. It's all a matter of if you're willing to spend the money for the convenience when you're outside the Seward city limits. We stayed at the Windsong Lodge and the shuttle only runs every hour, on the hour. We had a morning tour at Ididaride (the Seavey's dog kennel). I wanted a breakfast with more food than the little express cafe in the lobby could provide. I hurried over to the restaurant (tour pick up was going to be in 15 min) and asked for breakfast take-out, explaining about the tour time. They filled my water glass, got me a menu, and I ordered the basic breakfast which was eggs (scrambled), 4 sausage links, a heap of breakfast potatoes, and 2 small slices of french bread. This all was $13.50. They have a buffet for $18 but the potatoes were actually not the same, and the potatoes I got with my breakfast were much better - a blend of sweet potatoes, purple potatoes, and regular. And the portion of food was about the exact amount I would eat at the buffet anyway. Expensive? Yes. But it came out in literally 4 minutes, affording me the time to eat before my tour. Followed that up with a lunch on the same day where we had about 30 minutes before our Exit Glacier tour. The waitress was totally prepared and we ordered salmon sandwiches with sweet potato fries (me) and soup (my friend). The food came out super promptly and the sandwich was SO GOOD. I have had my share of salmon fillets in sandwich form (in Anchorage but also in SF), but surprisingly this was one of the best I've had. The salmon was not overdone but juicy and fresh. The dill aoli was also delicious. Wow - I gobbled that thing down super quick. It was $17 for that plus the fries. But again, when you're pressed for time and at the Windsong, I think the restaurant is responsive, tasty, and worth the convenience. read more

The Margarita pizza should be avoided. Its a thin 12 inch cracker with a thin wash of tomato sauce and a smear of white cheese and a few lonely basil leaves. I forget how much it cost, but it wasn't worth it. But the server Kaliegh - she was great. No nonsense, every stray and complicated request immediately catered to, just a perfect guide. Okay, so you find yourself in Seward and after a fantastic Kenai Fiords Cruise and you want a great meal .... good luck. This is apparently one of the better restaurants in Seward (I find that quite possible to believe) and is frequented by locals as well as tourists staying at it's sister lodge located 2 1/2 miles out of town. Food is good, portions small, service okay, decor ... well this is Alaska. Overall it is fairly good food at a high price in a restaurant that would like to think it is high class but it's not. read more

After being in Alaska for seven days and interacting with very friendly businesses and their staff I came to this bar and within a half hour I was insulted by the bartender and left. In my opinion the food is overpriced and the staff is not well trained to deal with the public, especially people traveling in Alaska-at least with the one that I encountered.
